LaTeX Editor Tex Pro for Negative User Reviews

A few too many inconveniencesI understand that overleaf requires an internet connection, but this recompiling on this was inconsistent. I had the best luck quitting the application entirely after compiling so that I could make sure to see my work. In the editor, you cannot scroll out of range of your typing cursor, which makes Shift-Tap unusable as a selection method for large bodies of text..Version: 1.0.5

Won’t compile beyond the first timeIt only compiles the first time when I choose the “preview (eye)” icon on the top-right corner. Any future compiles after editing the document isn’t generating any new output: displaying the same “My first LaTeX document”. Not sure how this is so highly rated and its seems pretty deficient and dysfunctional..Version: 1.0.6

Little bit buggy but is pretty useable for nowI was looking for a good LaTeX compiling app for my ipad to edit documents on the go or when i do not have my laptop available to me. My LaTeX knowledge isn't the best therefore this app makes it easy to test out things i learn online. However, i have noticed the app can be slightly buggy at times. When i close a piece of code i'm working on and reopen it, the app lags and does not open the file. Instead i have to close the app and reopen it to access the files. Which can be very annoying, especially if working on multiple files at once. Another issue i noticed is the inconsistency for new changes made to the code to save. I believe a dedicated save button would make this much easier. Future advances the app could make are having a prediction system that suggests what functions or references i am typing as this would make it much easier and quicker to code. It would also reduce the chances of any errors. Overall, i would say the idea is amazing the UI is quite friendly however the app needs to iron out bugs and add new features to make it a more premium experience. But for now it is a nice compliment to a LaTeX complier on PC for on the go use..Version: 1.0.6

Needs fixingYou say it’s the best editor for latex but that is a little bit too ambitious in my opinion. Or perhaps it’s better to say too arrogant maybe? I can see the potential in the app, and I believe that it can become one of the top three but it is nowhere near it at the moment. For starters, I can’t even get the app working properly, because (I don’t know why but) it stopped saving the .tex file properly and now it does not update when I update the text file and the preview does not show the PDF doc. It seems to have some issues with Apple’s file manager app. So basically it’s broken now. I even turned off and on my iPad but it still does not work. I have been trying to test the app to give you the opportunity for a good review but instead I have to say that it still requires work. Perhaps I could try again after some fixing has been done. I should really be giving it one star or zero star as it is not working at the moment, but as I see potential in the app, I will give it three stars..Version: 1.0.5

Got potentials but almost unusable in the current stateThe app is very slow when editing. I write anything and it takes forever for my sentences to appear. I got the latest Ipad pro 12.9 so I know it’s not an issue with the hardware. Please fix..Version: 1.0.5

Dropbox sync very buggyHave now lost work 3 times because of buggy sync issues with Dropbox. App freezes, and work is lost before sync. Can’t use this app reliably with Dropbox.Version: 1.0.5

Slow, buggy UIThis app is impossible to use. Text input as another reviewer wrote is painful with nearly a second delay between keystrokes. Also noticed the developer updated the app 4 months ago that said they fixed an issue with the cursor jumping to the bottom of the file. It still does this. Lastly, it doesn’t seem to support .cls files. The compiler throws an error that the .cls file cannot be found even though it’s in the root directory of the .Tex file. Hence, it doesn’t compile..Version: 1.0.5

Ran into the same lost-work error as another reviewerThey’re not joking. This really does SUDDENLY decide to revert to a previous version of the same document with no warning. It also has the reported issue with refusing to update the ‘compiled’ document to the newest version, though I found that goes away after a few refreshes. I suppose this is what I get for downloading a free app..Version: 1.0.6

Online needed, limited packages, buggyI wanted to like it; dark mode and syntax highlighting is pretty. But it is on-line only, I eliminated package after package but couldn’t get it to compile, it wouldn’t find co-files in the same directory, and the keyboard would disappear even after pressing the keyboard button forcing me to restart the app..Version: 1.0.3

Included files? This may be OK, but I haven’t found any contact information. Most of my documents have included files ( a preamble of libraries that I include in most documents, and shortcut commands that I regularly use). When I try to compile the master document, it can’t locate the preamble file, even though it is in the same directory as the original file. Where do I need to put this preamble, or am I out of luck? If this works...5 star..Version: 1.0.3

Doesn’t work with google driveLooks like it has potential, but all files are greyed out when using it with google drive. If I try and create a file on google drive, it gives the error: “ Unable to Import Document An error occurred while trying to import a document: The operation couldn't be completed. (com.apple.DocumentManager error 1.)” Google drive works fine with the normal Apple Files app, so it must be something to do with this app. Will be happy to give a better rating if this gets fixed!.Version: 1.0.5

Can’t open .tex filesWhen in my google drive folder .tex files are greyed out and won’t open..Version: 1.0.5

Local files not workingFor some reason it seems that the app can’t find other files in the same folder. Thus, input from another .Tex file doesn’t work, adding images also doesn’t work. But it’s free so I have not much to complain..Version: 1.0.5

Doesn’t work.Sorry, but it doesn’t work, preview never updates..Version: 1.0.6

LagThere’s amazing lag in typing. This is literally unusable for me..Version: 1.0.6

Two importants bugs1. When I compile my document and the app advice me about an error and I fix it, the document it is not refreshed, so the app remains showing me the first version of my document with the error. This not only happens with errors; also if I compile it and then I change something else because I did not like the way it saw, the document it is not refreshed either. 2. When I use the iPad Pro with the Smart Keyboard sometimes the document still jump to the bottom of the document..Version: 1.0.5

Works, but the experience is poorFirst, it feels awkward to use this tool with a keyboard. I try to switch back and forth between apps and every time I do, I have to tap the screen so that the keyboard can type something, which seems unnecessary and is unnecessary since I don’t have to do that on any other app where typing a lot of text is the main focus of the app. Second, importing .tex files is confusing. If you try opening a .tex file with Tex Pro, nothing happens and I don’t see the document. I had to first save the .tex file to my files app, and drag the .tex files into the Tex Pro icloud folder on my files app, but still that didn’t work. It gets moved to some “inbox” folder and you have to work out of that which means the file is inaccessible through the Tex Pro app. You have to go through the files app. Lastly, I have to build/compile my .tex files multiple times before the preview finally catches up with the updated code. And it’s consistently a different number of times so sometimes I have to refresh twice and other times I have to refresh like 10 times before I see the correct preview. So, if you think you’ll be using a keyboard, importing .tex files regularly, and switching between screens while writing latex, then perhaps you should look elsewhere..Version: 1.0.5

A complete waste of timeALL your edits are LOST as soon as you tap ANYTHING!.Version: 1.0.5

Won’t compile any documents?I wrote a test sentence and clicked the compile button and it’s just constantly buffering/loading. It won’t update or even show a preview of the PDF at all..Version: 1.0.5

It does not workI have a bunch of Tex files in my Google drive, the app lets me connect to Google drive, I can see the files, but they are greyed out and I cannot open them or do anything with them..Version: 1.0.6

Won’t render - circle just spins for mins until timeoutWon’t render - circle just spins for mins until timeout.Version: 1.0.5

Does not work on iPad Pro 2020 12.9”As other reviewer wrote, no luck for the latest iPads. Just does not respond to editing commands. Edit: apparently, it does not recognize RevTeX 4..Version: 1.0.5

Super slow, reverts my edits?!I type something, press the play button, then the eye button. Nothing is updated. And then my source file changes disappear. Also very slow...Version: 1.0.6

Does not workDoes not work with latex projects hosted in the cloud (eg dropbox)..Version: 1.0.5

AwfulCan’t import separate latex library’s. That’s the entire point for customization. If I could give less I would..Version: 1.0.6

Doesn’t work most of the timeDoesn’t seem to be able to recompile without completely relauncing the app, doesn’t recognize changes I’ve made. It also says it can’t compile due to errors even after I fix them until I relaunch..Version: 1.0.5

More Cumbersome than It’s WorthWithin minutes of using this “Pro” application, the app – after either error checking or previewing – will unexpectedly revert back to a previous “save point”, washing away any work meticulously typed out for the past 5-10 minutes. This bug is aggravating especially when working at a fast pace. Alongside the painfully slow time to error check or load a preview, it made this app more cumbersome than it’s worth. I would recommend not investing any time in this app for as long as this bug (and the overall slow nature of the app) is fixed..Version: 1.0.5

Can’t find or read cls fileMy dream of working with overleaf projects through Dropbox sync is broken..Version: 1.0.5

Doesn’t work on new iPad pro with iPad OS 16 installedSee the title, the app behaves erratically, a disappointment. I’ll wait until the developer catches up with the OS..Version: 1.0.6

Dealing with multiple fileFile explorer missing, could not compile my doc with multiple cls and tex files as chapters!.Version: 1.0.6

Terrible, slowDownloaded because it was free. Couldn’t compile documents that TexStudio or Overleaf could, I think the problem was related to not recognizing bibliographies or figures. Not enough support for me to really figure it out. If I would be cautious of giving a low rating because maybe it was user error, there also was a huge delay between typing and response. Like a second lag per character. Unusable at that point. Maybe others had better experiences, but this is a new iPad so I can’t explain the lag except for a poorly performing app. I’d recommend you at least try it yourself to see if it works better for you, but it’s also 70MB. Plus a star for great Dropbox integration though..Version: 1.0.5

Preview doesn’t actually work most of the timePreview doesn’t update most of the time, and the build button also not always responsive. i also tried relaunching the app only to find that my changes didn’t save. there were also multiple instances / windows of the same app running. just an awful experience. really really bad..Version: 1.0.5

Fake review starsThis app makes you give 5 star reviews when opening the app for the first time and doesn’t even work. Preview never works!.Version: 1.0.5
