Yotta: Win Cash Prizes for Negative User Reviews

Going downhill with every updateA few years ago, Yotta was a simple app with a fun purpose: encourage its users to save more coupled with a fun opportunity to win some extra cash. Over the last year, Yotta has undergone updates that have made the end user experience miserable. The leaders who are driving these changes with the app must not understand how we as end users enjoyed the simplicity behind Yotta in its initial concepts. The app is now extremely confusing to navigate (and this is coming from someone who professionally works in a Director of Technology role). I’ve noticed over time that I’m winning less and less with every change they make, and because it’s so complicated I believe it’s hard for the user to feel they are being fair with their opportunities to win. I’ve used Yotta as my primary checking and savings account for years now, but I will be closing my account soon because of these changes. Very disappointed in the decisions to take Yotta in this direction because I used to love this app..Version: 6.15.115

No Support and scam lottery gimmickThis app is truly a scam. I’ve made the stupid mistake of leaving my former bank and fully switching over to Yotta. (BIG mistake!) Once my direct deposit came of from my new job, it took me over a week to access my money, after they claim you will receive your paycheck up to two days earlier. I’ve tried the support feature and did not hear back from anyone until 6 days later. Another issue I had was receiving my sign on bonus at work through direct deposit. Yotta must have assumed it was fraud because they locked my account with no explanation. Once I reached out to support again it took me 3 days to get a response from anyone, then “Nick” responded with “we’ll look into this for you” 2 days of silence then I receive a message saying “..upon investigation, your account will remain locked and you will be unable to use Yotta services…” Still no explanation, but it’s hard to pay bills when the money I’ve worked for is being held by a scam company with no reason as to why. Someone needs to investigate this company and arrest the con artists responsible for this company. Also, the lottery is rigged. They don’t explain how the numbers are picked. They wait to see who will come close to winning and make it virtually impossible for anyone to take the grand prize. Yotta needs to be investigated immediately!.Version: 4.4.7

After 4 years, I’m out thanks to awful updatesBeen on Yotta since mid 2020. Always loved the idea, I even listened to the Freakonomics episode that inspired the creators to bring the app to life. But after these most recent updates (which are just the latest of a series of changes that have made the app worse since its inception), I can no longer support this app and no longer feel comfortable storing my money with them. I feel betrayed. I have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes but the current state of this app is the antithesis of their original mission of a savings-based lottery. Unless you want to throw your money away through casino-like games of chance and in-app purchases, just get a HYSA. I hope to see the original mission of this app return, through Yotta or elsewhere..Version: 6.15.119

Not Worth ItUsed this as an emergency savings account for years and the deal was simple 3 years ago when I signed up: for every $25 in the account, you got a lottery ticket for a drawing. Over time, grand prizes have gotten smaller and the app has become more and more gamefied. The update in March 2024 was awful and pretty sneaky. Now you have to buy the lottery tickets by way of purchasing an in-app currency. It’s just not fun anymore and without the $25/ticket deal, it’s also not as attractive. You could (and should) put your money elsewhere and earn a better APY without the unfair games. Over 3 years, this company has shown me that they will consistently made sweeping changes that in no way favor the consumer and often make consumer experience worse by comparison..Version: 6.15.112

Can’t sign up and horrible customer supportI tried signing up in the app and it wasn’t working at all. I eventually saw my email that they needed me to upload a video to verify my identity and that I want to sign up for an account. The email prompted me to upload the video in the account, but there wasn’t even an option, I tried reaching out via customer support and they told me to upload it in the app and then stop responding. When I pointed out that there was an option to upload in the app they have a horrible, horrible AI customer service spot that barely works and it doesn’t respond to you when you message it. This is some of the worst customer service I’ve ever gotten in an app because I can’t even sign up or complete my sign up and verify my profile, I eventually emailed them and attached a video so hopefully that solves the issue but I just want to say that intercom is a horrible customer service platform.Version: 6.15.84

Worst bank - poor support and not transparentOf all the online and in-person banks and support I have had interactions with, Yotta is by far the single worst experience. I was excited to recommend it to everyone I knew when I initially heard about it. Wish I had know about their notorious reputation for poor support and shady practice. They tell you to contact support because they can't verify your information, and when you follow their instructions and ask what information they're requesting, they then hide behind their proprietary "software" for their "onboarding" process to evade answering questions. Of course, you then can no longer access or delete your account because they've locked you out, and yet they retain all your information. Stick with Discover, Capitol one, Sofi, ALLY, Bluevine or other online bank or local bank for business..Version: 5.5.6

Terrible Bank. Do not use this bank!!This bank is garbage. Tried using the debit card multiple times but it does not work. Because their debit card doesn’t work, it automatically locks your account for literally no reason at all out of nowhere. Spent literally an entire day going back and fourth with their customer service submitting them every single document they requested to get my account unlocked back. After submitting all the documents, they still would not unlock my account even after proving with countless documents and evidence that the account was mine. Literally the worst customer support team that I have ever seen out of any financial institution. I will never join this bank again nor would I ever recommend this bank to anyone else. They are obviously involved in very suspicious activity for me to have been verified and then them still not willing to give me my account back. Highly suspicious people. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIA COMPANY!! YOU HAVE BESN WARNED⛔️.Version: 6.12.2

Lost their visionThis app, when it first released was excellent, and had an awesome mission. Sadly, they decided to take the less honorable route and encourage gambling instead of reforming gamblers. At one point it was impossible to lose money in the app and only interest would be gambled. Once they allowed users to gamble principal balance of accounts, they lost all right to exist. I’ll likely change this review after a few months seeing that Yotta enables people to forcibly learn to avoid gambling whilst building their credit, but the pivot from 100% force for good to force that almost exclusively makes money from gambling is sad to see. I wish they could have actually made it work as all early adopters envisioned it. Don’t get baited by the initial ~12,500 ratings, most of those early adopters that loved the bank and gave good ratings would likely have not rated them that in their current state..Version: 6.15.118

Money DisappearedI used the app for several months and everything’s OK! Until I went into my Yotta account settings to change my bank account information and when I did that an error popped up and when I tried to log back into my account it stated that my account did not exist so I went to the support chat as well as the emailAnd nobody has been able to find my account or my money. I used the exact same email address to set up another account and it states before disconnect in your bank account make sure that you transfer funds because the account will be permanently deleted. Which makes no sense. I still haven’t been able to get my money back or even get in contact with a consistent person to find out or to resolve my problem. If you have money to lose then go ahead if not I’ll just leave it alone. I have lots of questions and no one to answer them..Version: 2.20.0

Don’t even botherEarnings from savings have now been completely wiped out as of last update. I have not earned a single cent in the last month or so since it came out. Daily you’d receive tickets and win prizes from the drawings that went directly back into your account. You’d get the tickets based on how much money you had in. Now tickets must be bought with “Yotta cash”. You get Yotta cash daily from interest, but that yotta cash can’t be claimed as real money. It has to be gambled in games to win more Yotta cash to buy tickets for the nightly drawing. If you have it on auto play, you might win 50 cents of Yotta cash which is redeemable, but now you don’t have any Yotta cash to buy more tickets. Completely garbage now was using this as a savings. Now I have to switch it all to a high yield savings to actually earn something. I will only keep a small amount in to have a chance of winning a large prize. And also have to change my direct deposits too :/ it’s become garbage and I hope they fix it before they lose a customer completely.Version: 6.16.0

Update to multiple virtual currencies makes it easy to lose real world moneyI used to love yotta but this is devolving into a casino app. It used to be very simple but now with the introduction of yotta cash, it is very hard to tell what is unwithdrawable virtual currency and what is actual real world money. For example, yotta currency is redeemable for actual money… sometimes. It had to be wagered in games and converted into winnings, also known as yotta cash. So, you have to manually wager it to convert it into useful currency. But don’t wager the convertible YC or you are spending nonworthless currency. Oh and don’t confuse it with your APY, your tickets, or your tokens. Those may or may not cost real world money. You can still auto wager but they disabled the ability to wager all non-withdrawalable currency so you have to set a number and hope you didn’t overestimate how much worthless YC you have or you could lose real world money..Version: 6.16.1

Lower Tickets AgainAt the end of 2020 they lowered the number of tickets you get over $25,000. In May they are lowering the number of tickets you get again, this time over $10,000. I was already getting a rate just under 1% on my money and this will reduce that even further. Not worth using over a traditional savings account at these rates. Other than that I have no problems with the app or service and their functions. EDIT: Just to add, when you make a withdrawal, it removes tickets which makes sense. The part that doesn’t make sense is it removes your best performing tickets. For example if you have ten tickets and one with matches, and you withdraw enough money to lose 1 ticket, it will remove your ticket with matches. That’s just a rip off..Version: 3.9.5

Impossible to WithdrawJust don’t do it. They make it SUPER simple to add money from your bank to their app, but make you jump through hoops to withdraw even your original amount. It’s been nearly a year of me trying to get my money back out & it’s been such a pain. Their “customer service” always blames their “banking partner” and always seems perplexed as to why it’s not working and they say they’ll get back to you once they get back from said banking partner, but it never happens. I q’s trying to withdraw $100. Such a small amount for them. And I kept getting a message saying my daily withdrawal limit was $10k. Okay, cool, I’m well under that so let me withdraw. But it won’t let you. It makes no sense. None of my info changed. I’m withdrawing to the same account I added the money from. So why does it matter what their “banking partner” says?!? I’m so over them. If you look up reviews online (BBB too), you’ll realize they’re just full of excuses and zero answers. They just want you to deposit money & keep it stuck there hoping you’ll forget about it. And in that year wanna know what I “earned”? $1.30! Ha! Just don’t do it. Soooo not worth it..Version: 4.9.8

TerribleI signed up for Yotta after seeing raving reviews. I deposited money into a new Yotta account. 4 days later, my account was locked, and I had to “verify” information by sending a bank statement, and a utility bill. Shortly after I was notified that my account will be closed with no explanation. When I asked why, this was the response, “ Unfortunately we can't share specific details about why your review was denied. We are still a smaller platform and new company so our onboarding tools and software tend to be a bit more strict than larger banks and corporations who can take more financial loss and risk than we can. We appreciate your interest in Yotta.” This is from an account that took my money after deposits were made. Had this been the case, Yotta should deny an account before deposits were made rather than ghosting a customer without explanation..Version: 6.0.34

Trust IssuesI am extremely disappointed to have logged into the app yesterday to find out the core elements that got me into Yotta had fundamentally changed. I don’t at all agree with their trajectory and feel they have completely turned in the opposite direction of the intent behind Yotta that originally got me to put my $ in their system, but beside all that, if I can’t even be given a heads up that this is happening then I can’t trust you. I got emails as recently as last week from Yotta for various items yet nothing I’ve ever received mentions these changes. Instead I was forced to agree to new terms to access my account. This is a shameful way to roll out your platform changes and myself and family members will all be closing our accounts out. The trust is gone. It’s just a gambling app now where you can keep your money close by..Version: 6.15.99

Slowly destroying itselfWhen I first heard of Yotta, I thought it was really unique in regards to winning money and I was hooked. The simplicity it had years ago was easy to understand and how things work, but it slowly was getting frustrating. They added too many things that made the app look bloated with unnecessary stuff and I had to do more steps to navigate the app. The recent update in March of 2024 was the last straw for me, and for many others. Substituting tickets for YottaCash was the dumbest thing they have introduced and will be the cause of their downfall. I immediately withdrew my money after the update and closed my account. It’s sad how much I praised this app years ago to family and friends; it was a fun savings account while it lasted but unfortunately these changes is where I draw the line..Version: 6.15.115

Sign-in Issue. 10 Sept 2023App logged me out, will not let me relog, can’t reset password, don’t receive email, what’s the deal? Update: took more than a week to resolve and got access to my account again but more issues to follow. 21 September 2023 Yotta Decided to lock my account I don’t have access to my account anymore. They’re demanding to see my banks statement for 3 months and, in addition a video of me holding my ID and saying that I give them access to my linked account. Im going to say this app has been very sketchy for the past few months and I will one thousand percent not recommend this app/bank to anyone. After completing a review of your account we are unable to offer you a Yotta account or services. To get the deposited funds returned, you will need to contact your external connected bank from where the funds were deposited to request a "reversal". When you contact them, they may also refer to this as a dispute instead of a reversal. In order to retrieve the funds, they will need to file a dispute for each transaction/deposit into Yotta to reverse these deposits. If they are unable to complete this, we will return the funds to your connected account 60 days after the settlement date for the funds deposited into your account. Thanks for your patience in advance..Version: 6.14.6

Very disappointed in the changesI used to love Yotta and looked forward to the drawings. They royally screwed up everything I liked about them with the latest update. The Yotta cash is a joke and cannot be redeemed unless you are lucky enough to win a fraction back on the drawings. The boxes used to be so fun to win a couple of bucks or cents here and there and now you can only win Yotta cash or tokens. The tokens are the biggest joke of all. The games are boring and you can’t even win anything of value. You can’t redeem tokens for anything except to play the dumb games to win nothing. I seriously question the sanity of the people who sat in a room and patted each other on the back while agreeing to this mess. So out of touch with the customers who built them with our hard earned money, referred our friends, and trusted them. And their snarky social media person has zero ability to take feedback or provide empathy to very legitimate complaints. Good riddance..Version: 6.15.118

Just another app that takes your moneyWhen I first downloaded Yotta it was dope. You got 1 ticket for every $25 you put in the savings account which drove you to want to save more money. That was it you did not have to pay for anything. Yes the odds of winning were very low, but you didn’t have to pay anything which was nice. Now they took away all the tickets you had, along with the ability to do pool plays, and told you that you only get tickets if you buy them. It went from oh we are a savings account to help you save to no we are greedy and want money. Now if you want anything from this you have to pay for tickets that disappear. I obviously withdrew all my money so it would get spent on this garbage and am deleting my account. So sad to see the sudden and drastic change. You are better off just going to buy powerball or megamillion lotto tickets. 0/10 terrible app..Version: 6.15.119

Yotta, more like Notta.Edit: The developer responded by saying that you’ll earn a similar APY compared to an Ally savings account over $25,000. The similar APY will average out to about 0.45% compared to Ally’s 0.60%. The lottery part is “fixed.” Read through the terms and conditions and you’ll see exactly why. The actually obtainable prices, like the $5,000 prize, will be split between all of the other winners who also win the same prize. So you’ll probably only get a few hundred if you’re extremely lucky. Apparently my math is off though per the dev. 🙄 ——————- I can no longer recommend this app. The ticket rate was previously 1 ticket for every $25 you had in the savings account. As of December 14th, 2020, they changed how many tickets you get per week. The ticket rate is now: x1 ticket for every $25 in the account up to $25,000. For balances above $25,000, you will only get x1 ticket for every $150. So if you have $25,000 invested, you will get 1,000 weekly tickets. If you have $50,000 invested, instead of getting 2,000 tickets, you will only get about 1,167 tickets. If you normally had an APY of 1%, be aware that the APY of your balance over $25,000 will now be in the 0.2% range. As of writing this, you might as well go back to using a more mainstream high yield savings account like Ally which has a 0.6% APY on your entire balance..Version: 2.18.1

❗️🚩READ BEFORE USING🚩❗️TL;DR - Yotta can lock you out of bank account w/ no ability to unlock the account yourself. Long version - I was trying to pull cash into my Cashapp. I thought it was drawing from my Chase account, where the money I needed was at. It errored the first time and I thought it was a bad connection (it’s happened before) and I waited. I tried again, same thing. An email popped up like a few seconds later saying my Yotta account was locked. I didn’t put 2 and 2 together at first. I checked Cashapp and my Chase bank was linked, but the Yotta card was attached. I tried to have my partner (joint account holder) to get it unlocked. They had to LEAVE A MESSAGE on their “support” line. I began a chat with Yotta. They told me they had to forward it someone else and it would take 1 business day. There is zero urgency to get you access to your funds that you worked hard for. I actually don’t know if I’ll get access because they just give you canned answers. Oh! The cherry on top, my birthday is this week and I’m supposed to start my roadtrip today, but thanks to Yotta, it’ll have to be postponed until I can use my card. Thanks Yotta, you’re so fun and cool. 🙂.Version: 5.4.34

It’s not fun anymoreWhen I signed up for Yotta I was excited to check my tickets and I was winning a tiny little something almost everyday. You earn 1 ticket for every $25 you have in savings and I had saved enough to play 50 plus tickets every night. Then one night I opened Yotta as usual and was shocked that I only had 1 ticket. They don’t make it clear as to why they took your saved tickets but that’s like stealing imo. I don’t enjoy playing anymore. With 99 numbers and only 1 ticket, the odds of winning are slim to none. Before they robbed me of my tickets, if I made a purchase with my Yotta debit card I would get a surprise box with tickets to play one time in the next drawing. I loved opening the boxes and seeing how many tickets I won. I used my Yotta debit card for everything so I could earn boxes. Now I don’t use it because I only get these worthless tokens to play their stupid little games. Those games clutter the app and make navigating the site more difficult than it already is. I transferred my money into a high yield savings account and stopped my direct deposit. I will be closing my account when I know I can withdraw ALL my money. I read from another Yotta user that you can’t withdraw your funds from interest until it reaches $50..Version: 6.15.118

How is Yotta at 4.8 stars?! They used to be great now they are awful! They will lock up your money at the drop of a hat, if you make an honest mistake and your ACH doesn’t go through, EVEN THOUGH YOU’VE HAD NO PROBLEMS FOR LIKE THREE YEARS, they will just close your account. I really loved my yotta account and they just up and locked up my money, and then went ahead and closed it. I would advise not to keep any significant amount of money in this account or try to transfer with ACH because if you do anything wrong, you’re gonna get your money locked up and you’re gonna get your account closed and they won’t let you talk to them about it -they just refuse and then they send you a check a few weeks later. Great customer service for someone that’s been there since they were a startup 🙄.Version: 6.12.2

Yotta going down hillI’ve banked with Yotta for 2 years and it used to be as simple as using your bank account and earning prizes from a lottery type drawing. It has now turned into a full online casino where you can purchase currency and use it to gamble. The actual cash prizes seem to be significantly less than they have ever been and tickets are much more difficult to earn and have much less value. Hopefully yotta sees this and makes some changes. I would love to go back to a more simple version of the app but also I understand that as a business you are trying to make money rather than just giving it away. I think the difference is when Yotta started, they were much more giving compared to now they have started to lean more toward reducing prizes and increasing difficulty of acquiring tickets..Version: 6.15.119

Still believeAs of right now, there is a review attack happening right now on this app due to a recent update. The app and the bank itself are still good and valid savings account to use. The gist of what is happening is that they changed the way the lottery works as well as card benefits without notice and system that caters greater to higher value. You may find information online, but it will give you one ticket in the daily lottery for every $25 saved each and every day. Although they have not directly given the per ticket value, you can calculate the new value to $366 per ticket. Effectively they are giving you less tickets in the lottery, but they have changed it so the prizes are much more valuable. Mathematically, it is worth using this account if you were willing to save $10,000 or greater. Otherwise, you may go days without earning any funds in the lottery, which is effectively you’re interest. I still think the internal systems with the buckets and savings goals. Give it a good use. However, the addition of many games and the ability to buy tickets has turned the app into a gambling app, whereas it was advertised as a way to save people from the negative effects of gambling, which is losing money. You can request to remove the games from your account however, any benefits may still give you tokens to use on those games which effectively make the rewards useless..Version: 6.15.118

Like Rome, started as a wonderful savings center, has fallen far from it nowI used to rave and share all about Yotta as a great way to save with higher yield interest. It was a fantastic idea and easy way for people with gambling interest to be incentivized to save more. Since the transfer to “Yotta cash”, this app has turned into nothing more than a Las Vegas scam. Obfuscating how people’s savings is tokenized makes it easier for people who don’t read every line of the the new terms and conditions a victim of corporate greed. It could be so simple. Go back to the ticket system which helped your customers. I will be pulling my money from the bank and I urge others who are invested to do the same. If you are a new investor, I would hold on to your cash until something changes so you don’t end up losing it as fast as a slot machine..Version: 6.15.119

Bad business practices and poor customer serviceAfter having concerns about the legitimacy of their holiday sweepstakes and wanting to speak with someone, this is what one of their representatives sent me “There isn't anything we can provide you. This isn't anything that a legal team or anyone else at Yotta is going to look into further. We understand you have an opinion about what you believe happened or what you see or think is or isn't fair, but our team already selected the winner here. Thanks again for your concern but we don't have anything else to share with you or that we will be looking into.” I simply wanted to know if it was an employee or an actual customer who won due to some discrepancies I found. But if their customer service is any indication, I don’t think “real winners” exist here. So I’ll be following up another way. Just wanted to share my experience here..Version: 4.8.4

MehSuch a good idea but over. Year and and half waiting and still not available in the United Kingdom , beginning to lose hope as it seems to have no progress..Version: 6.14.43

No longer a savings appI got this app when the YouTuber markiplier was sponsored by it. I was iffy about it at first but with the pool play I was earning around a dollar every single day. This app was a great savings app at the time. Around a week ago they changed everything. I now have 1/4 the tickets I used to have and the pool I was using to make the dollar a day had completely halted earning any prizes despite having over 6,000 members and around 35k tickets in the pool. They introduced yottacash that you use to purchase tickets instead of just giving you tickets based on how much you had deposited like they used to. The older system was better in every way and now it feels like they took out what was good about the app and changed it so you will be more inclined to spend your money instead of saving it. This app used to be great but the classic tale of businesses being greedy has ruined it..Version: 6.15.115

Limited SupportI’ve been a Yotta user since they partnered with Graham Stephan. Their support is very hard to get in touch with for sensitive issues or bugs. Even during business hours, their phone line will go to voicemail. When they do respond to your email or chat, it’s almost always a canned response like “We cannot offer you [x] product. I hope you understand we cannot disclose Yotta’s specific criteria and tools used to determine account eligibility and services.” which doesn’t make sense if they had actually taken a look at my account. Yotta also has some odd bugs like one which support confirmed in which “it looks like someone on our backend triggered your request for a [x] card, our team is working to fix this bug.” If you don’t encounter any KYC problems, bugs, or other issues and don’t need to work with Yotta support, you’ll have a pretty good experience with Yotta. Yotta earns 1.5% APY on average with the standard buckets and 4% APY on average with the crypto buckets. The ticket and lucky swipe experience is something no other bank offers. With the Fed fund rate right now, you might find other high yield checking and savings options that offer similar rates like Current (4% APY Savings) and SoFi (1.25% APY Checking) and better customer service..Version: 5.4.6

Not in canadaYou get one star though that you only say not available in Canada after capturing all the personal data!! Just say it from the get go!.Version: 5.4.6

Imposible timesInitiated withdrawal on October 5th. As of today, October 9th my money has not made it to my bank account. I have an emergency to pay for and I can’t use my emergency funds which I kept with Yotta. In the era of electronics and transfers which take seconds it should NEVER take 4 days or more to move money from one account to another. Very disappointed. Edit: 10/11 at 11:31am. I was told via email that the funds would clear on 10/10 at 11:30pm. No money has hit my bank account 6 days after initiating withdrawal. I’m starting to fear I will never see my money again. Edit: After calling the number and actually talking to a human being my issue was resolved and the money hit my account. However I was left scarred from this experience and after reading some similar experiences on here and on reddit I closed my account. It seemed like a fun way to save. Lets hope yotta does better in the future.Version: 6.14.39

Doesn’t work hereBeautiful UI & Beautiful idea but why is the app available for download if we can’t even use it in the UK.Version: 5.3.22
