✓ UnbalancedThe app looks good, it works great, and the idea is unique and useful. But after a week’s use I’ve noticed that it draws from the same publications and has a right wing bias. Where writers summarise articles they’re generally centre right or right wing, and are pejorative against liberal ideas. ✓ Not always updated, poor iconI’ve just started using this app and can say that it’s amazing compared to most news apps. it does a spectacular job of summarizing, the most important news along with more interesting stories. My main criticism is that the app sometimes isn’t updated. It’s 10am right now ans it’s still showing yesterdays news. For any news app to be reliable, it must be updated every day. Full stop. Also my feedback as an app designer is that the app icon is really poor. Number one rule of icon design is not to include full words in it, especially if there’s so small not to be legible. ✓ Troll appNot sure if the app is trolling me but every time I try to read an article it says I do not have an active subscription even though I have created an account on the website as instructed and logged in with the same account on app. I have tried with 2 different emails and same issue. ✓ Slide rightThis is a great idea, it provides a decent mix of topics and news in a stripped down form. However, unlike The Week, which it is spun off from, it has none of the balance. Most of the articles come from the right wing press (press in a very loose sense when you include so many Torygraph and Daily Heil articles) with the odd Guardian one chucked in here and there. I don’t mind reading counter points, in fact we should all do this more and I’m still engaging with it because of that. But it purports to offer “fresh perspectives”). ✓ Gone wrongSomething has gone wrong. App insists you have to have an account to read stories… yet there is no option to create an account. It only offers the chance to login - but, of course, it is not possible to log in unless you have already created an account. This is annoying - and very stupid by the developers. ✓ Good idea butA daily news digest is a good idea but this app is outdated. The Knowledge’s news cycle doesn’t get updated until noon which is far too late, by then you’ve already heard the headlines in a myriad of ways. What would be nice is to wake up, take a couple of minutes to read the digested news and then perhaps click on links to read expanded articles on anything of interest. Getting a summary of the previous days events when you’re halfway through the following day is purposeless. The Guardian Morning Briefing does a similar thing and is available before 7am every day. The Week’s daily digest is out by 8am. The BBC have a daily morning newsletter. You get the point.FrequentReviewerVersion: 1.4.0
