Upkept for Negative User Reviews

Looked promising but couldn’t get it to workIt looked very useful but I’ll never know since at the start it insisted on making me enter information about specific appliances, which I did not have, before doing anything else in the app. Without entering all that information, I couldn’t move on to any other features. Too bad. I was excited to try it..Version: 1.19

Shame on you CRI expect you to protect me from parasitic apps that I do not need. Free trial followed by a $60 annual fee CR you have let me down and permanently changed my opinion of your organization. I am on the CR insights panel and will definitely let the organization know how disappointed I am with you!.Version: 1.4

Like a lot butI love a lot of the features but I really wish you could change the month for predetermined tasks. For instance, in my area we won’t to aerate and seed in September but the app won’t let me move the task.Version: 2.01

No point in downloadingYou might as well make your app $5 if you’re going to make them pay to use it anyway..Version: 1.19

A come-on for a costly subscriptionAfter the first few bits of data that I entered, the app went to a page to accept a trial subscription, with an automatic $4.99/mo. added if you forget to cancel. There was no way to decline and just try more of the app without getting a trial subscription. I just had to quit the app. Come on, Consumer Reports, that is *not* consumer-friendly! The app should provide a basic level for free, and have an option of a subscription (non-intrusively) for the advanced mode. I deleted the app..Version: 1.4

Needs updates to be worth itThis app is great in theory, but for 4.99/month, the amount of bugs you run into is unacceptable. Several items never load (kitchen sink, trees, lawn, to name few) and just sit on the “Please wait” screen and the only way to back out is to force close and start over..Version: 1.12

No tips, just schedules! Fee required!A glorified to-do list for home and appliance maintenance. Three month free trial, then a monthly fee is required..Version: 1.01

UnfortunateLet’s you add one item and then requires monthly subscription to add more..Version: 1.19

Good in theoryIt’s a great idea, and a great looking app - but for the cost, and the fact that notifications do not work (and have never worked) - one of the selling points is the app notifying you when to tend to certain tasks and maintenance routines. So without that functionality in working order, this is just a really expensive database of your appliances and some maintenance tips. Not worth it until the app is fixed, and even then, it’s overpriced..Version: 1.19

Only works with a subscription fee.Only works with a subscription fee. Doesn’t tell you until after you make an account and add 1 item. Pretty shady practice especially from consumer reports Edit: no you were not upfront on your Instagram ad. Which lead right to the download. And I’m sure it a method of a decent amount of traffic to your new app. Secondly. Regardless of wording on the install page. There’s too many accounts I need to have in todays world. The least you can do is notify me of the cost BEFORE I give you my personal info. Now. Even though I’ll never use the app, I have an account floating around. And should consumer reports ever get hacked there’s just one more avenue for my personal information be out there.Version: 1.5

Inadequate SupportA liked the functionality and options of this app until I ran into a problem. I was trying to add a custom item to the kitchen category. Surprisingly, a microwave is not a part of their pre-set. A custom item canNOT be added - no picture, no details. I wrote to customer support, got an answer that they knew about the issue and were working on it. It’s been a month already, nothing happened. To my follow up email, I got a rude answer that they would let me know when it’s fixed. So, for now, I am not motivated to keep adding items as their picture upload doesn’t work even for the pre-set items. That prevents me from adding critical information about the appliances..Version: 2.05.3

Scammy - disappointed in CRI understand the concept of “in app purchases.” But after you go to the trouble of signing up and adding an appliance, you are informed that the app is only good for three months, after which time you must subscribe for five bucks a month. This is not a “freemium” type product. The app is entirely useless if you don’t subscribe. This should be made clear in advance. Shame on CR..Version: 1.4

DisappointingI was really excited about the concept of this app - while technically the function is something you could recreate in many other apps or just your calendar, I love a niche app that is also aesthetically appealing, which this is. It’s fun to tap the icon for each element of your home, upload a photo, enter the model number, lifespan, etc. I love the concept of having all the information on each appliance or area of your home in one easy to find place, especially the different sections for receipts and parts. I had to give only three stars (I almost gave just two), and I will be canceling my subscription, because the actual maintenance plans in general are *extremely* lacking. A few of the major appliances have more unique and tailored maintenance tasks, but the majority of the other “maintenance plans” are just annual “do a visual inspection”, “make repairs as needed”, “do a deep clean”. This wouldn’t be as disappointing if the app gave you an option to ADD your OWN tasks - but it doesn’t! Customizing and adding your own tasks seems like SUCH a basic feature and I can’t believe it doesn’t come with this option. Heck, even just being able to adjust the frequency of the task would be better - cleaning my range hood only once a YEAR? It needs it far more often than that. There is also no option to add your own appliances or home elements, which would be helpful as the ones available are limited. There’s no microwave, free-standing bathtub, patio, fireplace…lots of basic home elements. I REALLY wanted to like this app, and I honestly never write reviews, but the creator of this app seems to actually notice reviews so I thought I’d give it a shot. Please, add these things if you can, and I’d be happy to renew my subscription!.Version: 1.10

Great idea and good app but expensiveThis app does what I’ve been looking for for a while but sixty dollars a year is far too much for this sort of information that they have to produce once. Would have been great as a one time payment app but gotta monetize everything..Version: 1.6

Constant error messagesI downloaded and added a few things, but after I closed the app, I have had constant error messages. It won’t bring up the data I imputed and just says something went wrong. I have closed and reopened. Logged out. Reinstalled. Nothing is working. What a waste of time. I cannot believe they charge people for such a problematic app. I don’t know what all the app can do because I haven’t been able to use it. I am disappointed and upset at wasting so much of my time..Version: 1.10

Does not start wellI was interested in it but was disappointed with the interface. I knew only three of the four data items the program asked for, put those in and did do not know for #4. The app completed the entry, but when I checked the refrigerator/freezer and tried to add the information I simply could not do it. That suggested to me that the app is not well designed, and I am dropping it for now. Consumer Report, fix it..Version: 1.19

This app is not workingThis app is not working.Version: 2.02

MisleadingI downloaded this app with a referral from my homeowners insurance company with an enticement of “3 months free trial”. The app is helpful and teaches me things to do that I would not have thought about, however, I only got through the 1st month when they started charging me. There have also been some opportunities to speak with the developers through virtual chat sessions, however, I signed up for 2 of these and no one shows up and they get cancelled. So while this is a very helpful app, I’m not sure what to think of the company and developers..Version: 2.01

Not Worth ItI’m paying $4.99 a month for a calendar to remind me what to clean. I’m not a fan of the subscription model for such a bare bones app. I already pay for a print subscription, plus another subscription for the Consumer Reports website. There should be a one time flat fee for the app instead of nickel-and-diming your supporters to death. I will be canceling..Version: 1.8

Great in theoryI’ve tried downloading and deleting multiple times over a few weeks and never can get past the first few pages without a error. Different download, different page for the error..Version: 1.8

Worthless without customizationOwned my home 13 years. Worked in home improvement for 10. This app highlights some basics, but doesn’t include features that actually need upkeep. Off the top of my head: sliding glass doors, shower doors, hinges and locks, ceiling fans, patio furniture and features, grills, outdoor lights, pools, pest control, exterior cleaning and pressure-washing… I could go on. Second, without climate customization, many of the tasks are useless. I live in FL. It’s 90°F and rains daily in summer, but I don’t have to “winterize” anything. Also, my roof will only last 15 years because of the heat and sun. Adding a lawn but not being able to customize the grass type and climate is also a waste. Same with plants - annuals and perennials are different. What about fruit trees or deciduous trees? Everything about a home is based on local climate. I put in my zip code when I registered and it still shows me plans for insulating pipes to prevent them from freezing. Overall, too singularly focused on superficial appliance and fixture care without consideration of all the other *actually* critical parts of a home. I’d even be satisfied if it just let me add my own tasks and frequency, but that customization just isn’t there. If anyone thinks this app is a one-stop guide to home care, I’d hate to visit your house. If anything, this app is a distraction from the things that really matter. For $4.99/month, the value just isn’t there. You’d be better off making a spreadsheet or adding reminders to a calendar app - and making good friends with the local folks at the hardware store, of course..Version: 1.0

I’m sorry but noThis app is purely to mine data from consumers to enable consumer reports to sell reports. That’s all fine and all but it’s insults to see that they want the end user to pay for this. Useless app.Version: 1.8

Can’t use because I’m not in front of the fridgeKinda stupid that I have to add my fridge before I can use the app, but that’s the way it’s programmed. So, useless app gets bad review as a heads up and deleted because I’m not a fridge-ophile.Version: 2.01

Really good start, needs more custom optionsI really like the design of the app and the suggested automated tasks. Unfortunately we have some items that aren’t listed as options (whole house humidifier requiring filter changes for example) that make it unlikely to keep up with the app since we’ll have to find another way to remember those. I also don’t like that we can’t add year installed/manufacturer/brand for some items like hardwood and carpet since we know them. Lastly, I’d much prefer one flat fee, even if hefty, than monthly sub..Version: 1.6

Not quite enticing enoughI was going to use a few basic upkeeps without signing up for a trial, but you can’t even put the kitchen sink on here without a pop up. No thanks. I’ll go back to paper and pen just because I already have those without a subscription. One idea might be a lifetime subscription, but not enough ‘trials’ to keep my attention to try..Version: 1.17

Too Expensive!I’d pay a flat fee of $4.99 but $4.99 per month is crazy. As CR would say, save your money and use your free calendar app to schedule routine maintenance and put the $60/year you save towards repairs..Version: 1.4

Monthly fee for useI could only enter 1 item. Then the app won’t go any further before it demands a monthly (about $5) subscription fee. For $600/ year I could buy a new appliance or item! No thanks..Version: 1.19

Not worth the priceWay too expensive for what it offers. Needs a free option, and a more robust paid option..Version: 1.16

$60/yr forever for info in every manual and home repair websiteThis app is ridiculously expensive. I subscribe to Consumer Reports. I downloaded the app after reading about it in their print magazine. I finally got around to setting up Upkept nearly a year later and am told the app costs $5/mo. What?! I get charging for additional services like in-person support, but a monthly charge for an automated app is absurd, especially when it's developed by a publication I already pay for..Version: 1.19

Immediate subscription requiredYou can’t even try this for a day without signing up with your personal info for a $4.99 a month subscription. That’s insane..Version: 1.16

Forces you into subscribing. You get a pop up saying you can check it out free for a month. You then have to click ‘got it’ which they feel counts as you agreeing to a subscription..Version: 1.13

Could be goodCould be good except that I’ve already subscribed and it keeps telling me to access premium parts of the app I have to subscribe.. disappointed..Version: 1.17

Disappointing for an expensive appHalf of the things that I try to add get me stuck on a “Please wait…” screen and never load. I have to force kill the app to get out of it. It is doing this when I try to add specific items, including a kitchen faucet, electrical panel, plumbing, and I’m sure others as well. I will be requesting a refund from the apple store..Version: 1.12

Sells your infoRight after I set up an account on this app, I started getting a TON of calls, emails, and texts regarding services I had “requested”. Most of the calls were from numbers with my same area code, although I do not live in that area and would never request services from vendors there. I can only assume that this app is a scam to sell your information to vendors in your phone number area. Do not use this app..Version: 1.15
