It has many features I like but for me the killer one was using iCloud to work on files so they synced easily to my Mac. It’s such a pleasant editor that I paid for premium even though I didn’t need any of its extra features. Just wanted to support the developer. ✓ Super Lightweight and IntuitiveThis just came out and I had it pre-ordered, so I haven't had a huge amount of time to use it yet, however so far my experience has been absolutely fantastic especially compared to my other text editor apps which seem to be very resource-heavy. Also, I love how customizable it is, and it is definitely the easiest way to do a simple edit for any code in a pinch! I'll update this review if I run into any issues but so far, so good! ✓ My new text editorI have used pretext as my simple text editor for years. But it has a few limitations and is no longer being updated. I have tried quite a few alternatives but they were either poorly implemented or overkill for my desired use I continued searching and recently discovered Runestone. I find it to be very well constructed and the design intuitive. So far, I have not encountered any deficiencies or problems while using it. The basic free version is very functional and has no pop up adverts pushing for upgrade. The premium version has a few features that are worthwhile for me .. so I upgraded. This is now my preferred simple text editor.Version: 1.3.21
✓ The app is terrific so far, but _does_ have one problemI’m editing files straight out of Working Copy, where I keep a local copy of my “dotfiles” project. Lots of files in there live inside directories that start with a dot, such as .config etc. Or the files themselves start with a dot, like .inputrc, .bashrc. I can’t figure out how to get to these files in Runestone. I wanted to report this as a bug but could not find the appropriate place to do so; so I’m doing it here. The app is great and clearly worth five stars so I’m not going to dock stars for this bug, but please, please, take this under consideration..Version: 1.0.2

✓ Laggy scrolling mars the experienceUpdate - after setting up my iPad from scratch the scrolling performance of this app is now as expected. Rating updated and previous review left below. Nice app! Scrolling documents on an iPad Pro is very laggy independent of document size, syntax highlighting or any other setting. No such issue on an old iPhone. ✓ Just get it alreadyIf you’re looking, you know what it is and I’ll tell you it is worth it. Even without premium it’s a great text/markdown editor. If you use it even a couple times a week the premium update is worth it and reasonable for what you get (my opinion of course)..Version: 1.3.19

✓ Top tear but one issue.I love this, coming from Kodex it’s a lot better bar 1 thing. No quick way to edit text. Can you add a button to create a txt file that’s removed unless I save it manually? I don’t want the name dialog to pop up, I just want it to open the text editor so I can do some things to text & then I can save it or close it if I want. Quick and easy, as currently I need to create a new file, name it and save it before I can do anything, then remove it afterwards. Cumbersome for something I want to quickly do. ✓ Almost the best code editor for iPadSyntax highlighting for almost every language? Check! (At least, that I use) Really cool colours and themes? Check! Sync across devices and through iCloud? Check! If you want to code on the go, this is for you! The only thing I think is missing is an auto-indent and auto-expansion when you insert a new line inside curly braces like I have on desktop code editors. I was going through text editors looking for something that I could keep as a slide over for quick reference. I saw a blog post on about this on Daring Fireball, and within minutes of downloading I knew I had exactly what I needed. ✓ Finally a decent code / text editing appThis is a wonderful, well-designed, and elegantly simple app. I take most of my notes in markdown and store then in iCloud and often want to view / edit them on the go. The editor is a pleasure to use, has basic code editing features, syntax highlighting, dark mode support, basic auto completion (e.g. automatically adding closing delimiters to the right of the cursor). Have tried other text editing apps but they are clunky and a pain to use. I very rarely write reviews but felt compelled to do so since I see this has relatively few downloads and is such obviously high quality. I have no doubt it will be a success. ✓ A great, modern lightweight text editorRunestone definitely exceeds the expectations of being a lightweight text editor for iPad and iPhone. With its modern design an architecture, the app feels right at home with tons of other iPadOS apps while packing a rich feature set that’s come in handy in the few times I’ve used the app. The Premium package is definitely worth the price and extends Runestone further to how I like my editing tools. ✓ Excellent Code/Text EditorI’ve barely scratched the surface of this app but seeing it covered by Macstories and made by Simon Støvring made me download it almost immediately. Despite creating Scriptable scripts being a little above my pay grade, I have a few installed that I use every day. I used to not understand apps that opened by default into a Files view, but I have come to realise that it’s the most logical choice. Runestone, PDFPen & Pixelmator Photo all do this, but it’s so you can get to the file you want to edit as quickly as possible. I’m a web developer and I use Atom on Mac every single day. I discovered this app and the syntax highlighting looked pretty good, but then I found where you can create your own theme and I immediately bought Premium and got to work replicating Atoms theme I use. I got it 90% of the way there and I’m in love. I’ve wanted this for years. THANK YOU.
