Data Jar for Positive User Reviews

Best power user app since Workflow (“Shortcuts”)A truly innovative, useful app. Essential for anyone using Shortcuts..Version: 1.0.1

Best app for shortcutsThis app is very useful with shortcuts It is free and It’s easy to use problems: When I try to access an index value it gives a error.Version: 1.0.15

Amazing For Developing ShortcutsI love this app and has enabled an easy way to store and access global variables in shortcuts. The only alternative to this is to write dictionaries to the files app and then reading said file. It’s quick, efficient, and very easy to use. I publish shortcuts on RoutineHub and these have made many of my shortcuts possible. Much much much love to the developers. You guys inspire a future dev.Version: 1.1.4

Does exactly what it says on the JarWhy can't Shortcuts persist information between sessions? No idea, but Data Jar neatly plugs the gaps..Version: 1.1.4

Nice but buggyI love the app so far. But two issues I come across: 1. Crash - I would have the app open and going through the pages and the app would crash out of nowhere. 2. When copying text from the Notes app, it would be saved as an image instead of text. Then the app would crash when I try to open up the image..Version: 1.0.5

Just what I need!Great for simple storage of values to persist between Shortcut runs. A great, purpose-built tool! I'm so glad that this syncs between iphone and mac. So many workflows for me are possible because of this..Version: 1.1.4

Awesome appLove this app.Version: 1.1.4

It's Makes Handling Files, Text & Images Easy In Shortcuts.I know longer have to store anything within a shortcut like text, images or files. That's Data Jar job, which is great because I don't have to go to 5 different shortcuts to change some information with things change. I just go to one place which is Data Jar and changes everywhere. I'm realling hoping this app goes to $20.00 subscription just because I want to make sure the app stick around and free isn't the remodel for this app. But, hey that's just my two cents for what it's worth..Version: 1.1.4

If you make shortcuts this app is a must have!Been using the app for several weeks now. All I can say is this app is awesome. I’ve built several shortcuts that wouldn’t have been nearly as easy to make or as responsive to use without having Data Jar. My only slight feedback/request for a future version would be the ability to protect all the data or only certain data stores with Face ID. Otherwise the app is perfect. Make sure to tip the developer for such an awesome app!!.Version: 1.1.4

Easy to use permanent variables for shortcutsEverything about this should be built into shortcuts, but since it isn't, this app is amazing. 10/10 recommend. Easy to create, retrieve, edit variables both programmatically and manually with excellent shortcut commands and interfaces..Version: 1.1.4

Great with Shortcuts and AutomationsTested this on Mac, iPad, and iOS. Smooth on all three. Provides essential variable and data storage for the Shortcuts app. Essentially allows you to create a local / iCloud database. Easily query your data using menus. Also pairs well with his OTHER app called Scriptable, allowing Javascript-esque data manipulation. Personal experience tip here: learn the differences between working with Lists and with Dictionaries..Version: 1.1.4

Essential for ShortcutsA wonderful gift to the community..Version: 1.1.4

Great shortcuts appTruly great app to store data for shortcuts, and use as a clipboard manager.Version: 1.0.5

An absolute must-have for any Shortcuts aficionadoIn a bleak world before Data Jar, I had to rely on saving .json files to iCloud for data persistence. Data Jar has fundamentally changed my data storage strategy and has unlocked a whole new series of experiences in Shortcuts. The app is super easy to use and has a beautiful UI. Simon has done a really incredible job with this app and the macOS version of it is perfect. The fact that it's free is wild considering how powerful it can make your shortcuts..Version: 1.1.2

Amazing app- one suggestionThis app is super useful and i have a suggestion for the developer- create folders for values. i have upwards of 50 values at this point, a lot of them are for shortcuts that use 5-10 stored variables. it would be nice to be able to put them in folders corresponding with the shortcut they belong to, just so it's easier to find things in the app. it gets very cluttered when you start using a lot of values. love the app tho! ive been able to do so much more with shortcuts since downloading. oh and left a little something in the tip jar :).Version: 1.1.4

The best a shortcut user can getSimple the best!.Version: 1.0.15

Amazing app ... butIt’s an amazing app but one thing is bothering me created a shortcut that take whats in my clipboard and saves to Datajar but it saves as rtf not txt nor md who uses rtf.Version: 1.0.13

Exactly what I was looking forI was looking for a way to hide my IFTTT key inside Shortcuts and bumped into this. Awesome stuff 👏🏽.Version: 1.0.15

Simple and PowerfulThis is awesome for just keeping data, like notes or anything, but the way that this interacts with shortcuts is amazing. I used to use apple notes and reminders to store my data for shortcuts. This is a million times better. And this app has a lot of actions in shortcuts, which is teaching me even more ways to be efficient. Love it!.Version: 1.1.4

Amazing data managementSo this app is basically a no sql type storage which makes life so much easy if you’re handling data in shortcuts. I used to question its utility gives iOS shortcuts have inbuilt dictionary and lists. I learnt that it is not easy to maintain persistence and at the same time view and edit logged data. As an example I am using it to keep a track of my blood glucose, date, meals, coffee and insulin dosage. It becomes so much easy to organise all this data in a structure most convenient for me (to later plot using charty app) which otherwise would be an impossible task with iOS inbuilt data types. Full marks for practical and simple implementation. Also a bonus is that it syncs data instantly between my devices and it stays in my iCloud..Version: 1.0.11

So great! One thing I’d love to see added would be widget support. Would be great for monitoring status of a stored values without needing to open anything..Version: 1.1.4

Essential appThis is a must have app the more you use it the better it becomes, perfect with shortcuts.Version: 1.0.14

Makes Already AWESOME Shortcuts Even More Freakin’ Awesome!!!!DataJar is like being handed the KEYS to the candy store. See what I did there? Get this app and say goodbye to your free time. It is the world’s deepest rabbit hole. I never want to stop exploring..Version: 1.1.4

Great balanceNo adds, no initial cost, no special account needed. Just a tip jar. I’ve used it for 15 minutes and already left a tip. This fills an important niche for anyone writing shortcuts!.Version: 1.1.4

Works PerfectlyJust spent a day trying to figure out how to use JSON and iCloud drive to save persistent data, only to figure out the default method doesn't work on Apple watch. This app makes me look really stupid. My only gripe is that it doesn't allow device specific variables, which is what I needed. The way I did it was too save the file based on the device name, creating a separate file per device..Version: 1.0.15

Very handyA unique and fantastic app. If you know what to do with this app, you’ll find it invaluable..Version: 1.1.2

Fantastic!!Awesome app. Adds a permanent key value store for Shortcuts! Super great app!!.Version: 1.0.8

Amazingly UsefulAt first, I didn’t see the benefit and usefulness of Data Jar. However, once I started doing more with Shortcuts I quickly discovered it’s amazing potential. I use it to store Data for quick access, almost like a database. I also use it to start flags and timestamps so I can check the status of various things in my Shortcuts or when something last happened. It’s awesome for power users of Shortcuts..Version: 1.0.15

Time managementI have been using this app for some time now. It’s a lot more lightweight than the alternatives, and it’s extremely straightforward. I’ve been using this app primarily to help me do time management, but I love the idea that I can do more if I so choose. My only gripe, which is just a personal ‘inconvenience’, if even that, is that there isn’t a standalone app for the Apple Watch. But really, the convenience of this app has spoiled me..Version: 1.1.4

Amazing app and developerIf you like Apple Shortcuts or are learning how to develop them, this app is a MUST. When I learned JSON, this app became very easy and convenient to use. I recently used it for a project where I setup a flow of shortcuts to save App Store icons, store app info and base64 values as well as the image urls to create visually pleasing menus. This would've been so much work without Data Jar. I now have all this info easily accessible between my devices, in a visually-pleasing format. Thank you, Simon!.Version: 1.1.4

Great app, missing Boolean actionLove the app, fills in the gap of needed global values for Shortcuts. Has most related actions, except for one glaring miss. Since you allow Boolean type values, where is the Boolean action to set a value? Worth the tip jar, thanks!.Version: 1.1.4

Adds easy-to-read pass-by-reference to ShortcutsBecause Data Jar adds terse persistent global store to Shortcuts, it enables local scope and pass-by-reference. Do you need a struct initialized with a half-dozen values which need to be set at runtime? Write a Shortcut that takes a name as input, does the necessary lookups and calculations, saves the results to the passed in name, and exits with success or failure. Boilerplate code can live in its own Shortcut. This is great. Also: if you are wondering how to delete a key from a dictionary, use “Delete Value.” In JSON, a key without a value is not a key. Look at RFC-4627 section 2.1. If you want a key with a null value in JSON, your choices are true, false, and null..Version: 1.0.8

Amazing appHowever It would be simpler/better if I could enter text directly into the value field without having to add a text block first and then add the text to the next action as a magic variable. Would simplify and speed up the creation of some shortcuts 😊.Version: 1.0.10

🍯 So simple and so useful 🥳For years, I’ve been sticking Shortcuts data in all sorts of places - Files, Reminders, etc. And, yeah, they worked, but not always well and they tended to make my Shortcuts more complicated than they needed to be. First thing I did with DataJar was write some new Shortcuts I’d been thinking about. It was so much easier. And, I really like being able to tweak my saved data easily in the DaraJar app. I’ve now written an old Shortcut to take advantage of DataJar. I’m happy. Tipped! :).Version: 1.0.8

BeginnerLearning a lot about using this app with shortcuts to automate my life with simple easy data entry. Reduces scrolling thru files or notes!.Version: 1.1.4

Great app! This app definitely levels up my shorcuts!.Version: 1.0.17

Exactly what I was looking forI was searching for a way to keep track of bar stock but needed a data container to remember all the quantities. This app fits the bill perfectly and was so easy to implement so thank you very much!.Version: 1.1.4

Great StartWonderful and unique. Need more query functionality to be practically useful..Version: 1.0.13

Should be built in it's that goodAmazing once you figure out how to use it! Opens up LOTS of advanced possibilities. Cheers guys!.Version: 1.0.14

Absolute mustIf you are a fan of Shortcuts then Data Jar is the perfect companion. Just get it..Version: 1.1.4

Useful Addition to Mobile WorkingSuch a simple app concept but with endless use cases. Can be used for simple data storage or much more complex shortcuts related processes. Another addition to my arsenal of mobile working tools..Version: 1.0.8

Multiple ListsI think this app is great and honestly, i havent found much like it on the app store. The integration with IOS shortcuts is amazing. And it is so simple oh my lord. I just wish i could add lists within lists, it doesn't seem to allow that..Version: 1.0.15

Data Jar is an automation game changer.Data Jar integrates with Shortcuts quite nicely, it is powerful, and dead simple to use. It has greatly expanded what I’ve been able to build. I’m actually shocked that Apple hasn’t acquired it yet. It’s just what the platform is missing..Version: 1.0.17

A must for all shortcuts usersJust an awesome app to use with shortcuts. Please tip the developer as the app is free..Version: 1.0.13

Very solid and usefulData Jar is a very useful app that I'm just starting to explore. Right now, it's rock-solid, does what it says, and gets updates frequently. The more I do in Data Jar, the more I think of other things that I can do!.Version: 1.0.5

Fantastic toolI'm so glad to have this on macOS, it's superbly handy. Thank you!.Version: 1.1.4

Fantastic complement to ShortcutsData Jar makes logging information using Shortcuts SO much easier! Before this app I had to append information to a Note or text file, which never really worked well. Now I can set up Shortcuts to keep lists and tallies with ease. My only complaint is that right now the Tip Jar in-app purchases aren’t working, so I can’t show the developer my appreciation!.Version: 1.0.1

Data Jar rules.I am so stoked you got Data Jar happening on Mac OS. Thanks for all your hard work..Version: 1.1.2

Love it!!I use this app all the time!.Version: 1.1.3

Awesome application!!Thank you for building this app and continuing to update it with new features. I use it a lot within my shortcuts on Mac and iOS. Keep up the good work and I will be sure to keep adding to the tip jar!.Version: 1.1.4

I can’t believe this is free! This app is amazing, so so useful in conjunction with the shortcuts app to manage global variables..Version: 1.0.15

This thing is perfectUsing this with Shortcuts is helping me keep track of so much stuff. It'd be cool to be able to make a dict or list and append to an existing list with a Shortcut, but I probably haven't gone that deep yet.Version: 1.1.4

Thank you!Thank you so much for writing this helpful app and providing it for free. It has helped my shortcuts immensely.Version: 1.1.4

Great Cross Platform AppSuperb on iOS and thrilled to see it on Mac.....Version: 1.1.2

Wonderful idea & Implementation!!I have had the app all of like 10 minutes, but it is very easy to see how effectively it addresses a need the shortcuts app created and defiantly benefits from. Worth checking out for free, and you know.. after if you agree the request for a tip seems pretty reasonable all! Simon, keep it up! I like where your head is at.😁.Version: 1.1.2

Simple, elegant, functional appWonderfully easy companion app for Apple Shortcuts. This is recommended if you are looking to step up your automation game on any iOS device..Version: 1.1.4

Feature RequestThis is a great app and I’ve used it for months now in Shortcuts. It really unlocked the potential for me to make a rename files shortcut. I wish there was a way for to create a Data Jar dictionary right from Shortcuts, if there isn’t already..Version: 1.0.15
