Hydra 2 › AI Camera (RAW/HDR) for Negative User Reviews

Doesn’t erase watermark prior to purchaseIt won’t remove the watermark from pictures taken prior to purchase. I purchased the app, it forgot that I did, watermarked my pictures, and they won’t go away after “repurchase”.Version: 2.2

Only Real-time EditingI need to be able to edit later. Not when snapping pictures. Seem like a huge oversight..Version: 2.2

😒I would like to buy it once But if an update is released, can I update it without being asked to pay?.Version: 2.3

Picture QualityPictures taken using the 110mp Hi-Res setting are worse than normal apple camera pictures. They are washed out and have no extra detail..Version: 2.0.1

Don’t buyVery disappointed. i bought version 1. now i have to pay for version 2 and lose my previous purchase. this is a robbery.Version: 2.2

Pictures are worse than in normal Camera appIt makes no sense to pay for an app that takes worse pictures. Even the normal camera app zoom is better than their claimed “9 times zoom”..Version: 2.2

Not sureRefuses to let me see pics without going online (?) just this once. But doesn’t go and here are no settings.Version: 2.1.1

Crashes whenever I take a pictureThe app becomes all black or crashes whenever I take a picture no matter what mode it’s in..Version: 2.2

Looks to have some useful new featuresLongtime user of original. While I appreciate power features there was a flow state in original letting one focus on capturing great moments. The update loses some of that and is a little jittery. That is taking a picture goes to editor but had to learn how best to get to other controls. Also the image seems to tile in inconsistently. Do like having control of amount of compression. Taking a photo in hdr seems faster but then spends more time processing. Finally I consistently crash in zoom and sometimes macro. Happy to revise rating when issues are resolved. Til then will continue using legacy version for expediency. Also sad to lose hdr video..Version: 2.0.1

Looks like cameraThis is junk, can’t tell what it’s supposed to do. All I can get out of it is, “an unexpected error occurred, please try again later.” I think these people are trying too hard to be clever with their app. Meanwhile, can’t get enough of a demonstration to make an informed decision. Completely underwhelmed, think I’ll pass..Version: 2.0.5

How to remove watermark?Loved my pics and didn’t realize I hadn’t upgraded to take pics without watermarks. From what I understood, subscribing would remove the watermarks but I can’t get them off of the photos I’ve taken. I’m assuming they’ll be off future ones? But I’m pretty devastated my pics aren’t salvageable as far as I can tell. Tips?.Version: 2.2

Needs improvingThe images are colorless. The shoots, even with higher resolution, are still not better than normal iPhone’s ones..Version: 2.0.5

Free version has watermarks and unimpressive featuresIf you want good pictures you have to pay money to remove the watermark. otherwise they will end up worse than if you took them on your regular camera. I get you have to make money some how but if you aren’t planning on spending money on it don’t get it.Version: 2.0.6

Noticeable Downgrade in PerformanceWas excited to try the new app, but was disappointed to find the app regularly took unusually dark or grainy photos that varied greatly from what was visible in the viewfinder, in the same lighting/conditions as the previous app took a perfect shot. I also found that the app crashes when trying to take 110MP hi res photos. The app was also slow in general, especially if trying to open photos after taking them. Maybe it’s just because I’m on an iPhone X, but I’ll be waiting to try the app again later once bugs have been resolved and/or I have a more capable phone..Version: 2.0.1

Unhappy with this new Crashing versionThe old app worked so much better. This new one opens and crashes and when it decides to work it does not work well. I can rarely hold it steady enough to take a photo. I never had an issue with the old version. To think I paid for this is frustrating. I am eager for the developer to get this working for us..Version: 2.1.1

Water Marks Why???Ok you limit the functionality of this app and make it free to use. Watermarks really??? If I find it functional and it’s a useful app, I’d upgrade by purchasing the full app. And YES I’m using JPEG mode and still get watermarks. So earlier reviews that were told watermarks would not appear on JPEG’s is not correct..Version: 2.2

Can’t edit photos after taking themThe idea that I’m going to stand there with my phone and edit each photo in real time rather than later after I take them is silly, and effectively renders this app near useless..Version: 2.0.5

Nice but notI'd rather have a free app with few functions than having that water mark on the middle of the pic, don't get me wrong, the app is really nice, I made some cool pics with it, but the water mark simply killed the experience.Version: 2.0.7

Crashed 4 times in 10 minutesI downloaded this app because I’m an advanced amateur photographer. It was featured in the Apple App Store and caught my attention. In 10 minutes of experimenting, it crashed four times on my iPhone 12. That’s a hard no for me..Version: 2.0.6

A gimmick app using the word AI to it’s advantageI figured I would try the free trial of this app as it seemed interesting and said it would take 110 megapixel photos (instead of 48 which is the max on my iPhone 14 pro). Unfortunately, I don’t see a difference in the quality of any of the photos taken by various different modes offered by the app vs. the pre installed camera app. The image processing is very slightly different and photos come out a little brighter but that is not a deal-making feature for me. I would recommend using the default camera app alongside the built in editor or Darkroom, Snapseed, or Adobe Lightroom to enhance your photos..Version: 2.2

Original Hydra app was betterUsing iPhone 14 Pro Max, and compared dozens of pictures between the original Hydra app (Hi Res 32MP) and Hydra 2 app (Hi Res all resolutions up to 110MP), and the original app always wins by a mile. I tried countless changes within the settings in the new app, I couldn’t find a single one that didn’t produce a washed out and blurry image. The Lo light setting produced better images than the Hi Res option. However, no images captured with the new Hydra 2 app came anywhere close to the native iPhone camera app with 48MP Raw capture - which was also much faster. On older iPhones, I wouldn’t recommend the A$10 to upgrade to the Hydra 2 app if you still have access to the original app which was way better..Version: 2.1.1

Can’t try lo-lightI try to take low light photos to try out the clarity of the image, but every time I try to take a low light photo it kicks me out of the app completely..Version: 2.2

Not workingI would love to try this app because it looks like a good photography app, but whenever I click the button to take a photo the app just closes..Version: 2.2

I would not recommendAfter taking several pictures with my phone I noticed the the photo quality was worse than the camera app, the macro feature was pretty impressive tho but you can achieve the same results with the standard camera app and a little more patience, I wouldn’t recommend it, sorry.Version: 2.0.6

Apple Free Cam Takes Sharper PicsI did some low light photos with both Hydra 2 and the standard Apple camera. The Apple camera produced noticeably sharper photos. Next I did some indoor photos under artificial light with Hydra 2 set in 48 MP mode. Even then, the Apple Camera took a noticeably sharper photo. There is no reason to go to 48MP unless you are going to get a sharper image and this failed to do that. That said, I like the interface. I just wish it took better photos than Apple’s free app. It doesn’t..Version: 2.2

Not up to the taskCan’t compare to a real zoom and higher megapixel sensor like in the s22 and to be honest testing right now at extreme zoom, the built in camera app gets a clearer shot at the 16x digital zoom than anything I could get in this app..Version: 2.0.5

Used to love it, now useless as won’t save RAWUsed to be a great app (V1) then I upgraded (and paid) for V2. One week after use, the app started saving only JPGs and no RAWs, no matter what changes I make in the app settings. Not impressed! Update: Even though I am using an iPhone 13 Pro Max with the right settings and the latest OS, still useless as it only saves JPG. Will be canceling my upgrade and dispute the purchase with Apple as the app does NOT perform as advertised..Version: 2.0.4

The WatermarkI really like the watermark, well besides it take up the entire middle of the picture.Version: 2.0.6

Great idea, needs workLong time owner of the original and purchaser of version 2. The app is now much more modern and customizable. Great improvement in usability. However, Image quality is no better than the default iphone 13 pro camera app in most modes except maybe HDR in some situations. Despite all the neural wizardry, high res and zoom mode is worse than hydra 1. High res mode has less effective resolution than 1 single well process raw/proraw capture. Perhaps the dev should look into a Capture->ProRaw->JPG pipeline like NOMO Raw 2 for improved image quality. Sorry for being harsh on image the image quality front, but I really want the app to get better as a long time fan..Version: 2.0.2

Never going to hit 4 stars.Theres nothing in this app that warrants a subscription. There’s more and more of a trend, because of rising costs of living that people are getting fed up with apps doing subscriptions, to steer away from them. Furthermore, there are two types of apps in my opinion. Someone that make a really good app because they want to build something they’re proud of. Those people will offer a quality app for a base price. Then there’s those that only make apps because they are greedy and are money first types of people. Those are the ones that want subscriptions. The apps are never as good as the former. This app falls in the latter category. Not offering a lot to separate it from the crowd, and certainly not offering anything to warrant a subscription. Subscriptions should give you something that you can get anywhere else. It’s the only reason Photoshop subscriptions work. And it became a trend on the App Store. But it’s falling out of favor people..Version: 2.3

CrashesI really wish i could write a good review because this seems like a great app but every time a try to take a picture on any mode the app just crashes...Version: 2.2

Horrible business practiceI paid $12 for this last year and now it’s useless unless I buy a subscription. When I paid $12 that was an upfront purchase to have the app, not a $12 trial. Bait and switch tactic that locked photos I rightfully own. Horrible people behind this app do not support it. Who knows what they’ll do next?.Version: 2.2

Worse than version 1. Sliders need tweaking.I’ve tested photos and video from both the version 1 and version 2 Hydra and can honestly say that the results from the legacy version 1 are just that same and in some cases even better than the newer Hydra. Therefore I wouldn’t pay £4.99 to upgrade. The 110mp shots from the new version look less sharp than the original Hydra at 32mp. The older version wins in macro too. I’m not sure how version 2 is any upgrade at all. It would be nice to be able to double tap on the sliders and make them reset back to zero. It’s hard to pull the sliders to zero because they’re so small. And it would be good to be able to save your HDR settings to that every picture you take is tweaked to your own personal taste. Also, I’m not clear what the difference is between the PRO (rolling monthly/yearly payments) and the full version is. Are you saying that if I were ti pay for the full version I wouldn’t get updates that I would with the pro version ??. Also needs an option to double click on the sliders to return them back to zero (default settings) in editing, because it’s fiddly to get them back to zero..Version: 2.0.6

Overpriced, forced to pay for updatesThis is basically the exact same app as the “legacy version”, the only difference being the larger MP count. The price of the app, while unnecessary, doesn’t offer a discount for previous app owners, overpriced and even offers a subscription!? Absolutely ridiculous and greedy to require users to buy a new app just for continued support. The photos taken with the higher MP tend to be less detailed, darker and take longer than the old app. There’s absolutely no benefit to buying this overpriced cash grab..Version: 2.0.3
