But when you open a project on garage band after having one already open, it makes the program lag so I have to close the GarageBand app and open it back up in order for me to use octane. Also I want to buy more sounds but it doesn’t allow me to. If I click and hold the sound pack I want to buy it shows the price but once I let go it disappears so I can’t click on it to purchase it. ✓ Dear dev, here is my feedback:Producers read on… This iOS version appears to be an afterthought. You cannot simply play the iOS app or sign into the app after downloading without first buying it! I suspect this is to prevent refunds through the App Store. The description suggests 3.99 but I found it was actually 9.99 at checkout). — That is not a true “trance gate”, it’s a square lfo hard linked to volume. A trance gate has patterns and can usually be programmed and connected to multiple destinations. — The sounds are reminiscent of early vst soft synths (they probably are, just sampled and packed). — The filter is not audibly pleasing and is hard set to low pass (you need more filter types). — The preset name section is crying out for next/previous buttons! — You cannot install multiple sound packs or queue them for download. Leaving the store window during a download cancels the download completely. — The ADSR envelope “release” sounds weird, it is not a true fading release but something like a note duration extension after key release!? (It doesn’t sound linear). — The layer picker should be sorted by category or nested in folders, there are too many options to scroll through alphabetically. — The EQ section is useless at best! The frequency knobs seem to only make a difference to sound in the first 1-10% and even then do not provide pleasing results. — The spectrum analyser is slow to react and laggy at times. — Unfortunately, I suspect that all reviews on YouTube are paid shills. — The sound pack demos in the store are particularly atrocious, made by a dev and not by a producer/sound designer? — The sounds appear to be based on Sfz format multisamples. Several of the sounds unfortunately have audible loop points and discrepancies within multisamples (some samples are brighter/duller than others for example). Please enable user import of sfz files, that would be a great start since you already have the engine to play them. — There are several duplicate presets for no apparent reason. Was there any QA?… sack him/her. — Some sounds have weird tuning as you pitch them up, neither a 5th of a 7th though, more like 80cents out and widening as you increase the pitch. — The compressor and expander are unreliable and basically just glorified gain knobs. I suspect all of the FX DSP is just open source transplant. — I experienced random sound muting and preset load failures (froze) in my short time playing with the software (M2 iPad Pro). ————— Now for the good, the gui is nice (inspired by Nexus 2?) including the store and the sound pack images. This has potential as a good rompler, particularly if you add sfz import and sort out the bugs. The dev says this plugin was rebuilt from the ground up but please note, you do not appear to have reached far beyond the ground floor yet… this feels like a beta. — The lo-fi section shows some promise! — Some of the sounds are half decent! — One other good thing, if you buy the iOS version you also get the desktop version for free and vice versa although I won’t be installing the desktop version (perhaps one day, after a few updates/fixes. *** Why did I write all of this? ✓ Really?I really hate subscriptions. I’ve been making music on my iPhone and iPads since they came out. I have been a proponent for iOS based music making for years and have beta tested many apps for years. I also make music and other instruments than apps but that’s not what I’m talking about here I’m talking about a subscription-based app. I think the only time there should be a subscription is if your app has been out for many years and has a ton of in app purchases that you might not want to buy all of them but you might want to try them all out for a month or so and figure out which ones you want to buy. I don’t support a lot of apps that I have purchased that have gone into the subscription route and don’t let the people who have purchased the app access to the entire app (not all companies or developers do this but there are many and it’s very annoying). So I will get off of my soapbox and tell you that I cannot give this app any sort of review because you have to pay before you can even play. How are we going to tell you if it’s decent if we have to pay before we can even use it? How are you going to have customers tell you about early bugs or glitches? I am not saying that there are any but sometimes there are and some devs can’t fix them quickly. So basically you are out of more money if your have to wait for updates. I am surprised that AudioKit is promoting this. Yes- developers should get paid for their work but at least allow us to use or for a few before we have a month to use it. When any app asks you to purchase their add-ons outside of the Apple ecosystem there’s a reason - They cant be leveraged into responding to customers. You can’t appeal to Apple.
