Steamboat Resort for Negative User Reviews

Steamboat Ski AreaWorst application I have ever used. Very difficult to enter account information with any kind of consistent operation. Very difficult to even login most of the time as a keyboard doesn’t come up and the scan text utility is useless. Very difficult to bring up a search tool. I have spent two hours today trying to follow required steps to get an uphill pass. Virtually impossible and to complete. I was never able to complete..Version: 2.0

Will anyone notice these bad reviews and make changes??It seems clearly obvious to all of us users what a downgrade this new app is. How can the developers not know that too? We can only hope someone notices these comments and makes improvements. As everyone else has noted, the map is now worthless whereas before was super helpful. Also the weather info is a big step backwards…before it separated numbers for base, mid mountain and summit and now it doesn’t. Please make some major improvements!.Version: 1.1

App takes step back. The old version of the app was better. The map is particularly a disappointment. The trail map is not labeled, and it appears the grooming report is no longer present. Hopefully you will bring that back. Generally the fonts are also not s clear and the app is crowded with adds. Just a disappointment overall to see this fall short when you are making so many investments.Version: 1.1

Keep social media out of your mountain appI don’t want to make an account just to access the trail map. And if you’re going to force me to make an account, don’t automatically log me out every few days. I don’t need another social media platform, nobody does. This app is so clunky, slow, and difficult to navigate. At least give the option to use the much better older app until the problems with this one are fixed..Version: 1.1

HorribleThis new APP is very problematic, often times not allowing me to access information. This happens even connected to WI-FI. I would hate to be a tourist and get lost, trail map could never help you figure out where you wanna go. But if you wanna know where to eat or shop this APP is for you. update: After using this app for a few months now I dislike it even more. Very slow to load , makes me sign in all the time. Webcams are super slow to load, I can get them to load faster on 3rd party app. And it’s just not that exciting of an app to look at. Doesn’t inspire me to wanna ski. Jackson Hole app is awesome..Version: 1.3

Wow :( No bueno. Not user friendly or intuitive at all. You have to sign in to see the mountain/trail map. The map won’t turn to landscape…..which would make it easier to see/use. I hope the developers of this app actually read these comments and feedback and make improvements so people can/will use it. I mean, if you’re on the mountain, you want a simple app that’s easy to navigate. Currently, this app is not user friendly, it’s not easy to navigate, and not intuitive. It’s similar to the steamboat website…..navigationally inarticulate. Please make updates!! Thanks!.Version: 1.1

Data Tracking MissingVery disappointed to see that my data from tracking my 4 days this season is missing in the app. Doesn’t appear that there is any way to recover. This happened during the trip too. Half of a day was missing before the trip was even over. Love Steamboat, but with this app was reliable..Version: 2.1

Ridiculously CumbersomeSooo not helpful. Visuals poor for trying to see things quickly while on the mountain; nothing links with anything else anymore (used to be able to tap run names from the status list and see the run highlighted on the map, for instance); too many steps to get to basic information; no more complete weather forecast; can’t see base, mid and summit conditions at one glance but have to switch screens; map contrast is poor for quick assessment. Also, what happened to all the webcams?? (And if you’re ever going to get those back, having one on each lift line would be more than helpful.) This is useless for actual mountain activities. Was hoping to keep the old app after trying this but no such luck - unsupported..Version: 1.1

Awful wont useBig step down from previous app. I would rate it zero stars if i could. Whats with the map on the opening page? Takes up half the page and is useless. The old app had a nice summary in top left corner of new snow, mid Mtn temp and summit temp. Thats gone. When i open the app the weather widget always says “info not available”. So you have to drill down to get a temperature at the mountain but doesnt say where from. The snow forecasted for the next 24 hrs is more prominent than what fell last 24hrs. Why? I want to know conditions now not in the future. What corporate tool approved this and thought it was a good idea? Makes no sense. You just lost people from using it..Version: 1.1

Ease of AppWe have lived here for 19 years and moved here from SV ID, where we lived for 25 years and before that Mammoth and Mt Hood respectively. Suffice to say we are long time skiers. We delighted in the (for us) first time printed grooming reports. Had not experienced those before. In SV there was a “White Board” At the top of the mountain with a groomed list, and that worked well, too. You should consider this “board” at the bottom and in several locations, as we(2) plus many others we have spoken with are unable to access your APP on a regular basis. I know this technology is, at our age, our second language, but WE are the ones with $ to spend here! PLEASE LISTEN TO OUR COMPLAINT! You are successful in turning away your clients who can actually afford to be here. This town has grown beyond imagination in our time here, and leaving is a consideration for us! TATER.Version: 1.1

Use Steamboat website instead! On the positive side, the live map now gives you lift line wait times, but the new app is otherwise a huge step backwards. Fortunately, the mobile version of Steamboat dot com retains all of the functionality of the old app. (Go to Winter Grooming Map, on the maps page, for a functional map.) On the website, you can get Joel Gratz’s snow report, and lots of other good features, as well..Version: 1.1

Very disappointedVery disappointed with the new app. Old app had multiple temperatures to determine whether or not there was an inversion. No grooming report or easy map to see conditions and open trails in one place. Have to sign in to track ski runs. Cameras often don’t work when viewing via the app (but do if I view them on the web). Overall don’t really think much thought went in to the app for the skier. Seems like the app is focused on tracking and such for marketing purposes by steamboat..Version: 1.1

Map and Weather Features fall shortI used the previous app to see what lifts and trails were open along with the weather conditions and report at base, mid mountain and summit. It seems they’ve scrapped these features in lieu of a nicer UI. I hope they consider adding back the relevant features that made the previous app useful..Version: 1.1

Still worse than prior appSlow to start, hard to see, weather and snow information delayed (the web can on the snow stake is different to the numbers) Not focused on skiing/skiers, initial map is where to buy a new coat in the base, rather than which runs to ski. Grooming map is often a day of possibly more out, and often incorrect at 7 AM.Version: 1.3

Update to App Loses Useful FeaturesNew version is a disappointment. Old trail map with grooming report was very useful and allowed quick review of open terrain & lifts, now need to scroll through every run on the open terrain lifts to see status. Also loss of snow forecast from Opensnow’s Joel Gratz is a big disappointment. Hopefully they can get his forecast re-incorporated into the app with an update soon, otherwise this app loses the most important features for me. New features like tracking and dining reservations are neat, but overall limits what I use the app for. One star..Version: 1.1

Poor “Upgrade”Truly one of the worst “upgrades” I have ever seen. Cumbersome to maneuver around the website; weather poorly done and not updated on a regular basis. Difficult to read trails for status as they are input in alphabetical order rather than by ability level - it makes no sense. They removed the OpenSnow report and the forecast is essentially worthless. Incredibly weak effort……..Version: 1.1

Complete downgradeThe previous app was mediocre at best. This new app is beyond bad. Whoever designed and wrote this app should forfeit payment. This is perhaps the worst resort app in the country. Information is hard to find or doesn’t exist. Web cams cannot be expanded to actually see anything. You have to step through menus to find anything. Health and safety information not is readily available which is apparently what the resort wants. Horrible. it would get zero stars if available..Version: 1.1

Missing current weather at Summit / Mid-MtnThe old app had the weather details for the summit and mid mountain so you knew if there was an inversion layer and how to dress for the upper mountain. Now, only a single temp when the current temps can vary by 10-20 deg from base to summit - either way! Also - links to things like trail status and lift status don’t link where they should. If I tap on trail status, don’t take me to the lift status..Version: 1.1

Why did it changeAs someone that used this app to know what was happening around the mountain day to day the change is unnecessary. Why did you change it into an interactive app when it needs to be an information sharing app that has an easy trail map or lift status. The icon to immediately call ski patrol was taken off and that’s just dumb. It’s just a bummer that designers need jobs or marketing teams need jobs so they ruin things that worked before for no good reason other than just needing a job. Horrible app now. wish there was zero stars.Version: 1.1

Poor “upgrade”, very disappointingI used the trail map to see which runs were open and groomed. I know where I am when I’m in my house, looking to see if more terrain is open. I enjoyed reading the daily opensnow conditions as well, which were informative and gave longer-range forecasts. Not a helpful update at all and hope the former features are returned soon. Very disappointing..Version: 1.1

Poor job with this WebsiteThis site is so NOT an improvement over the last one. In fact, it’s incredibly cumbersome to use. The weather info is incredibly shallow and not too helpful. The functionality is so poor: it’s not intuitive at all; doesn’t seem to adapt to landscape; and even more incredibly it’s not developed for an iPad!! How can you not offer that with the new app?? I can’t believe anybody in web design that reviewed this app can be happy with it..Version: 1.1

App is dangerously inadequateTrail map is non interactive and dysfunctional. Hit a trail and it no longer shows you the trail on the map. Very poor compared to last version. I find the app useless. It puts skier’s at great risk not being able to understand how the trail network system works and how to preplan their skiing activities. Please reinstall original version..Version: 1.1

Please add daily snow & grooming map backUsed to be able to click on map and view the groomer/open trails highlighted. And could easily get to daily snow from clicking on weather. PLEASE add back to main screen/make more accessible. Legit the only two things I use..Version: 1.1

Old app was way betterThe previous app is head and shoulders better than this one. Used to be able to see lift open and close times, the temperature and winds at the base, at thunderhead, and at storm peak…and more. This new app lacks so many useful features, no idea why they were removed.Version: 1.2

App for the “resort” not the ski hillOld app showed on the trail map what runs were open and if they were groomed, new app doesn’t do any of that and is basically useless. Having to cross reference an alphabetical list with the trail map is just bad design. New app is designed purely for people in the “resort” area and not at all for those on the mountain..Version: 1.1

New improved app this year is terribleOld app had all info available on a colorful dashboard page which was very convenient. This app has the same info on multiple tabs (ex weather)but different levels of detail on each tab. So I have to remember which tab shows the most complete. Often need to look back and forth at both tabs. What I miss the most is old app would allow you to tap a trail name and it’s location would display on a visual map. Every year, there are a few new trails or ones you’ve forgotten, so his was a great feature. I ski with 10-20 friends regularly. Everyone hates the new app. Wish you’d return to old version..Version: 1.4

Why?This app is practically useless, which is compounded by the fact that the previous one was pretty decent. This is clearly some boiler plate app that is also being used by other mountains. Why would you do this? Crystal in Washington is using the same and it's equally bad. This does not meet the standard of Steamboat as a world class ski resort. Harms your brand..Version: 1.2

Just TerribleThe new version of this app is just terrible. The old version was actually very good, I don’t know why they felt like they had to “fix” it. But it may have something to do with the fact that they mostly want to point you to where you can spend money. Useful things like the trail map are difficult to use. Since this is a free app and there is really no alternative, I guess we’re stuck with it..Version: 1.1

Erased my statsI’ve been using this app to track stats with my family this year. I returned from the second day to find the app had logged me out and all of my stats from the trip so far had been erased. Major yikes! Map is helpful on the trail, which earns a second star. Definitely would not recommend for anything other than that as the reliability is not there..Version: 2.0

Huge downgradeHuge downgrade from the old app, looks like they changed the fonts and took away features from the previous version and called it an upgrade. The snow report seems to have disappeared and the trail map no longer shows which trails are open..Version: 1.1

Trail mapThis app ineptitude is a safety hazard to all visitors. With paper maps going away. Apps now have to carry that burden. This app falls short and creates hazardous conditions for any visitors. It also appears that the grooming report is no longer available within the app which is disappointing. Additionally there are webcams missing namely the mid mountain snowstake and four points..Version: 1.1

Crap AppI have not met anyone who is happy with this new app, a person on the gondola told me crap app is the popular name for it. Please Alterra, go back to what works. I finally deleted it because it after 2 weeks it started telling me I was an unauthorized user. I thought if I started over with new password it would still be lousy but at least work. No luck..Version: 1.1

Epic FailWhat a [cruel] joke! In addition to the shortcomings noted by other reviewers, it can no longer do landscape orientation at all. Worthless on iPad now. On your phone, I hope you didn’t want to turn the map sideways to see more of the mountain. Don’t worry, the map is completely useless now anyway. For those who “wish I’d kept the old version”...that wasn’t an option. Open the old version and get only an un-dismissable pop-up saying “The Steamboat app has been replaced.” Forced “upgrade.” And why does a brand new app on the App Store get to keep the rating that the old app had? This turkey is not even a “beta” and shouldn’t have been forced on Steamboat’s guests..Version: 1.1

GroomingYou need to indicate which runs have been groomed. Also go back to tracking the total season snow and a single base number. The range is garbage and just your way to manipulate peoples view. Been coming here since 73. That change is stupid and shows people you think you can manipulate them.Version: 1.1

Not as good as older one. This new app is far inferior to the old version. You can’t tell on the map which trails are groomed or closed. How does showing a list of closed trails help me as opposed to how it was previously done marking them on the map. The information in the weather section is not as detailed and the forecast is gone. Who made these decisions?.Version: 1.1

Down grade from previous app2 stars cause this app is absolutely a down grade from previous app. Map view isnt as intuitive. Weather reports dont show snow temps and wind of upper mid and low mtn. Frustrating that our new app isnt as user friendly. Too much going on on home page.Version: 1.1

Horrible AppOld app worked fine. Lift status inconsistent, says lift open one place but closed in other spot. Can’t read snow stakes without taking a screenshot to zoom in. Base temp and mid mountain temp always the same. No wind speed given for current weather. Overall much worse than the previous app..Version: 1.1

New app disappointsOn the old app you could see the temperature and wind speed for the summit, mid mountain, and the base in one glance. After searching the new app it appears that I am only offered one reading and I’m not told where that reading is from. I am very disappointed in this new app. There was no need to change anything..Version: 1.1

Phone app, not iPad app!Planning a ski trip for next winter, we’ve been to Steamboat many times but not for a few years. Went to open the app I had on my iPad, and it said the app has been replaced and would not do anything else. So I downloaded this app, and it was built for the iPhone only so you don’t get a full screen. I like to have the tablet for viewing the map larger scale, grooming reports, etc. It looks a bit clumsy to navigate for the main functions, like quickly accessing a map. I guess I’ll just use the website..Version: 1.6

Steamboat AppThis is a horrible App. The old version worked to get useful information. Getting grooming information is very difficult and unclear, visible only on a very small map. You can’t find status by difficulty and must scroll through all runs to for example see if Vagabond is open and groomed. Bring back the old grooming symbol. Seems like more emphasis on selling than helping skiers. Very poor new App..Version: 1.1

If it ain’t broke……don’t fix it. Been skiing in Steamboat for years. Loved the old app. Worked great. New app hasn’t worked right since I’ve been using it. Link to weather from the main screen doesn’t work. Links for purchasing lift tix don’t work right…app will say there was an error processing when you try to complete the transaction, but the credit card company shows that the same transaction went thru 6x. 🙄 The customer service people at Steamboat manning the phones were great, but whoever QC’d the new app when they rolled it out really blew it. They should make the app coders work the customer service lines…those folks were slammed with calls because of the app malfunctioning..Version: 2.0

App does not workThe app does not work. The weather, lift status, and current conditions are set to “no data currently available” majority of the time. The forecast has been set to 6” in the next 24 hours for the last 3+ days and the last 24 hour measurement has not been reported. Ski patrol’s phone number is listed 3 times on the same page. These app developers need to work on this and get it going if Steamboat expects people to use it..Version: 1.1

Worse than the originalThe old app was better in almost every way. The trail map on the old app was substantially better. The old one was generally easier to read and digest info also. What happened to the mid mountain and summit temperature and snow cover information?! Overall a huge disappointment..Version: 1.1

Weather module won’t open on iPhone 15I have a new iPhone 15 pro updated to the newest iOS. The weather module won’t open when I push the arrow. It’s arguably the most important piece of info that one needs to understand what to expect on the mountain. I messaged the ski area on FB about it twice and they haven’t replied..Version: 2.5
