✓ Wow! This app is great!I don't know why there are bad reviews. I've tried other guitar apps and this app is my go to app for investigating chords. One person says they use Guitar Toolkit and I find Guitarist's Reference a better choice. I have several guitar apps and I use this and a few other apps all the time..Version: 5.4
✓ Bloody brilliantAs a pro composer and session player I have to say thank you to the team, this is the toolkit I needed and I use it every day, several times a day. ✓ Several issues resolvedNow more useful features - as asked for by some users of the previous versions. Simple to use and very useful on those "theory" days when I try to catch up on bits of new technique (flamenco at the moment for example). Modes and scales are well covered. ✓ Useful & comprehensiveAs others have said, this app is a really comprehensive guide to guitar chords and scales. every chord in every position on the fretboard and every type of scale you can think of, ranging from blues to pentatonic to mongolian yak-herding music scales [OK. i made that last one up, but it wouldnae surprise me if it was in there!] however it is also ridiculously large for what it does. this app should weigh in at under a meg. it's over 60MB! personally i'd also prefer to see the pointless 'quiz' removed and replaced with something more useful [for example an interactive guide to the CAGE system would be great] as regards the new look; it's an improvement on before. although, to be fair, it would have been hard not to improve on the original. it's still a bit 'fisher price' tho' and i wish developers would stop using those horrid 'spinning dial' selectors -surely one of the worst GUI designs ever. and finally; it may be a small thing but it really bugs me that the guitar in the new icon is upsidedown!.Version: 0
✓ Works on the iPod nowIgnore previous reviews about only accessing the data online....it is now updated. I absolutely love this app, and I use it all the time when I run accross a chord that I just don't know or can't remember. Also for beginners and pros alike, you can access any chord or scale all the way down the fretboard. By far the best guitar reference app on the app store IMHO. ✓ No longer worksWell this used to be one of my favorite apps until I upgraded to OS4. Now it doesn't work. I went to their website a few days ago and emailed them explaining that it no longer works with OS4 and so far have not gotten any response. I keep checking for an update to fix it but so far nothing. Pretty disappointing. Used to be a 5 star app..Version: 0
✓ I call it: The Guitarists' God Chord BibleThis app is so impressive, it not only gives you chords and all their inversions and plays them. There are arpeggios and triads. Plus every scale you can imagine or not imagine to every chord! Very impressive! I bought this quite a while ago and have wondered why I didn't use this before!?.Version: 6.0.4
✓ Sweet!!What a comprehensive app! Not only a library of chords and scales, but a chord finder!?! Also, a wealth of information for the guitarist who has a desire to know the notes of the chord and alternate fingerings, and the scales that are playable with the chord structure, The play icon lets you hear the chords and scales (it opens a window in quicktime). Did I mention alternate tunings, arpeggios, triads, and notes? Thanks for including the many features. The only program glich occurred when I left the chords section after picking a chord to display, and went back to the chord finder. There was no response to chord finder. To make it work, I went to chords section, then immediately back to menu and then to chord finder. Worked perfectly! One thing I would like to see: if using the quicktime popup, allow the user to close the quicktime window after he has the option to listen to the audio as many times as needed. Thanks!.Version: 0
✓ BeautifulThis app is so useful for me, because I'm constantly doing music theory and such, so I can just go to this app for any scale or arpeggio or chord I'll ever need. My only two complaints are the lack of a tuner (but you can have it play a note off a string to tune by ear too), and that when you want it to play a scale off or note it has to be connected to the Internet and downloads a Quicktime thing. I would definently buy this, and it's six bucks cheaper than Guitar toolkit!.Version: 0

✓ Use it almost every day. Great appSounds work great on my new iphone 5 and ipad iOS6. This is the best app for guitarists. Completely brilliant. The must have app for any one playing a guitar. ✓ Close to perfectThis is probabley the best fretboard reference app you'll find out there and I've tried them all. It would get five stars if the developers would add more of the standard look and feel of the iPhone OS. I cant say I'm particularly fond of the bright orange color scheme of this app and would much prefer a sliding fretboard rather than tapping on up and down icons. Those are my only gripes. This app is well worth 3 bux since it easilly replaces a couple 20.$$ guitar reference books. Nice job guys, please consider a sliding fretboard and the glassy look and feel for future updates. ✓ Very extensive appLots of other guitar apps include chord and note references. But this one goes much farther. It contains very detailed information, much more than I've seen elsewhere. The only downside is that the interface is a little clunky and hard to navigate at first. And the sound files should be integrated rather than having to open up first. ✓ Great app for visual learning typesI picked this app after looking through several at the appstore. What I liked about it was that it had lots of chords and it gave you some of the "info" behind the chord such as chord formular, which scales work best with chord and help you find the chords that work best with your selected scale. Pretty amazing. Most other apps just show you chords and that it which I did not find helpful. Also this app comes with amazing tool chord name finder you will find it very helpful sometime. ✓ Hands down best reference/learning tool for guitar!!This App continues to get better and more useful. This gives you the ability to overlay a chords notes over a particular scale...highly useful for those trying to improvise solo's. Hands down...best guitar app out there!! Made by the same company as Guitar Chords app and Guitar Scales app....this combines both apps, provides the same graphics, a bit more functionality and much better layout. With both the Guitar Scales and Chords apps, you can only see 6 frets...GR let's you see 15 frets of the neck at once! This is another huge benefit when trying to visualize all the scale forms on the neck. FEATURE REQUEST: One thing that I haven't seen any apps provide are fingerings for slash chords, such as D/F# or Ab/A. Not quite sure how you could integrate that, but those chords appear quite a bit in music, but are almost altogether left out of all the apps, I've seen. That would be my only suggestion for now... FYI... I seem to enter into a loop when trying to access the developer page....goes to website, opens, iTunes, then brings me back to the App store..Version: 0

With any operating system it is inevitable that a large number of apps will perform the same function. It is also inevitable that one of those apps will rise above the others and become known as THE app for digital photo manipulation (Photoshop), or THE app for music management (iTunes). For guitar players on the iPhone, this is that app. The developer has submitted a tremendous number of updates since I purchased the app; these updates were not simple bug fixes but added excellent new features. Many authors neglect their apps after their initial purchase, with Guitarist Reference this is not the case. If you are a guitarist, do yourself a favor and buy this app. You will not regret it..Version: 0
✓ Top notch tool for a great priceThis app is great for players at any skill level of guitar playing and is bound to show even professional musicians a few techniques or timings that they may not have considered before. The interface is easy to grasp and the breadth of topics covered (everything from scale and chord references to recommended chord/scale pairings plus a quiz to help with memorization) makes it a much better value than the chordmaster/scale wizard package. I only have 2 gripes with this app: the sounds are kept as a separate library of mpegs under the app (making the file size a bit larger than it has to be), and the visuals aren't what you would expect from a professional tool. However, neither of these is significant enough to be a dealbreaker, and the sale price makes it an even better deal..Version: 0

For the serious player get this app. I've purchased way too many guitar apps and this beats all other chord/scale references available for the ipod touch.I'm used to apps like palmchord, Guitar power, and fretboard for the palm OS platform which are still more advanced than all guitar references available for the ipod touch, but this app is so far the closest. I wanted a scale library and an indication of the right chord progressions. This app delivers that perfectly. Add the arpeggio and triad guides and this is exactly what I was looking for. ✓ Almost there!Great tool and exactly what I've been looking for... But it needs more tunings... I play in c# standard tuning with c# as the lowest note and I also play in drop B tuning which this app only accompdates for drop D tuning, (1 1/2 step above B). ✓ Switch in PlaceGreat application!! One suggestion: Will you be adding support to switch to a different scale/chord while in the same place? Currently, if you are viewing a scale/chord in a certain location like 12th fret, and switch to a different scale/chord it reverts back to the open position...kind of a drag having to scroll back to the same spot. ✓ No sound in tuning modeI like this app but I would like to hear the sound of the strings open when I choose an alternate tuning. It would be helpful to hear chords set in that tuning as well. You only hear the chords in standard tuning, it would be very cool to be able to change this feature. Not having this option forces me to rate this app at 4 stars. ✓ Flaw in AppI discovered a flaw when you change the tuning in the app (i.e.: Open D) and try to use the "Chord Finder" utility. When notes are selected on the Open strings (above the nut) those notes revert back to standard EADGBE tuning. This renders the particular utility useless for tuning other than standard. I bought this app for this sole reason so I could learn the chords to jam with a guitarist that can only play open tunings due to a physical handicap. UPDATE: Very fast response to this flaw. It has been fixed. Great tool! Considering what this app provides it is a bargain and worth every penny..Version: 0
