Star Chart for Negative User Reviews

Good app but too many upgrades that require paymentI love the help finding consolations and the fact that it has an astronomical calendar saying when meteor showers are is amazing! Just saying I could pay $5-10 for the app not to have to deal with the upgrades such as where to look for meteor showers and comets which are 2 separate upgrades one if not both cost $4.99. Still overall love the app and I haven’t had any major bugs so that’s nice and remarkably no ads so I really do understand the creators trying to make some money through upgrades but wish they would do it in the overall purchase.🤩☄️💫✨🌌.Version: 3.98

CometsDo not waste your money, app not show Neowise going to try to get refund..Version: 3.98

Problem with satelliteI bought satellite upgrade but option is not active dont see anything more in the apps.Version: 3.98

NamesEnglish not Latin ..Version: 3.98

Piece of crapI liked it to begin w’ years ago already. Updated to a ProMax 13 & I had to delete & reinstall it for it to work. I bought 2 packages, the extended stars & the satellite packages, & the app doesn’t remember me as a user & wants me to repay them extra money for the packages I already spent money on. Also as soon as U move the sky around, U have to close it & reopen it just so it moves around as U point Ur phone @ it. So this star chart app is pissing me off already. Download the next one in my mind..Version: 3.98

App needs an updateI really like Star Chart. I actually purchased all of the additional expansions in the app. Sadly, I have never been able to see any of the satellites. I’m super pumped that I spent $5 on that. 🤨 I attempted to report a quality issue, but the App Store doesn’t show a purchase history for me to be able to do so. If this app actually showed me the things I paid to see, and got updated more than once every 7 years or so (those satellites I want to see? There’s a ton more out there in the last YEAR, let alone 7!), it would certainly be a 5 star rating..Version: 3.98

NEOWISE missingI upgraded to see comets and it wasn’t there, can I return?.Version: 3.98

CometsI’ve had this App a long time but rarely use it. So when the biggest astronomical event in years comes along (Neowise) I thought I’d use the App to locate it. Wrong. I paid £2.99 for the in App purchase to view comets to find it only lists 20 comets, none of which are visible and which doesn’t include Neowise. You’re then prompted to buy another App for £4.99 which may or may not show Neowise. I’ve already wasted £2.99. I’ll use Google instead. It’s only £2.99 but I feel I’ve been conned ..Version: 3.98

Free appsThe app has the basic features that I'd expect. But I wasn't expecting to have to pay for some of the more detailed things that I was hoping to have. If I'd buy all the extras it would add up to a lot more than what a better app that costs about £5. I think I'm going to just delete this app and buy one that comes with everything that should make the experience a better overall app £8.99 for satellites £4.99for comets £5.99 other galaxy's £5.99 for other stars ... etc. I'd all ads up to a lot of money!!! I think that I'll just buy another app that is better value for my money That's what we all want isn't it Value for money,.Version: 3.98

GoodAwesome the only bad thing is; you can't go to earth! The first picture is nothing like the real app.Version: 3.80

No longer works.I've loved this program ever since I bought it. However it no longer works on either my iPad or iPhone (5s). The stars are jumping about about the screen which just judders and compass calibration no longer works. Other programs, Planets, Sun Seeker all work just fine. I suspect this may be due to upgrading to iOS 10.1. Such a shame considering the money I now seem to have wasted on upgrades..Version: 3.98

Was great, when it worked! This app was awesome when it worked as it’s supposed to. But for the last year or so it never shows the correct positioning of anything. I have tried every single “solution” out there, but it still shows the path of the sun as way lower in the sky than it actually is. My phone itself does not have any other location or compass issues so it seems to be an issue with the app. Even deleting and reinstalling the app did not work. I am disappointed that this app I paid for does not work anymore, because there really is no other similar app that compares..Version: 3.98

Not that greatThe app is good but don’t waste your money buying add ons, I got the extended star catalog, then it disappeared and wouldn’t download again..Version: 3.98

Crashes all the timeI spent money getting add-ons to this but I can’t even get it to run anymore. It crashes constantly on startup. I even deleted it and reinstalled it. It worked for a minute or two, but as soon as I restored the add-ons, it crashed again. I can only run it without the add-one that I paid money for! Contacted the company several times and never heard back! There have been no updates for 3 years. Appears to have been abandoned!.Version: 3.98

More locations!!!So I'm a nerd interested in constellations and I thought this app would be great to help me learn the stars’ patterns. I live in a state that is almost unknown, and in that state, I live on a teeny tiny neighborhood. I wasn't aiming for my neighborhood in particular, but somewhere close to it, like Fayetteville or even Charleston. But no. There wasn't a single city in my state listed on the app, which sort of ticked me off. We may be unknown to literally everyone, but every other state will be thanking us heat-packing rednecks for fighting for our second amendment. I really hope this app is still in progress. If you don't live somewhere world famous like Washington or Los Angeles, seriously don't get this app. Good graphics tho..Version: 3.98

Another disappointmentPurchased upgrades but none will load and app crashes after I get the upgrade to partially download then go to open it.🤷🏻‍♂️other than that this app works fine..Version: 3.98

EhhhhGood app and all, except won't let me validate the satellite pack, pls, otherwise calibration can be a bit tedious, other than that still entirely enjoyable.Version: 3.95

A bit bugged outI used this app constantly. I loved to go outside and finally figure out what stars and constellations I was looking at. I guess I used it so often that it kind of broke? It may just be a bug, and there may be a way to calibrate it, but I can't figure it out. When the compass pops up to re-calibrate, it disappears immediately. The map is off track (moon as a reference, it isn't in the right position when I hold up my phone, and neither are the rest of the stars). I don't want to have to go through the trouble of downloading the app again just to get it to work. Must be a bug? Please fix!! If the app were easier to navigate and if there was an easy way to calibrate it, I would give it five stars. Loved the app otherwise, though,.Version: 3.98

Screen constantly flashingScreen constantly flashing, loading very bad on eyes. Unsure if possible to adjust. Other than that, the program seems good..Version: 3.98

The apps got potentialBut it’s let down by the display behaviour. Switching off AR mode every time you zoom in on a star or planet is a nuisance. If it’s absolutely necessary to switch it off, at least give users a quick and convenient method of turning it back on. I never understand how developers fail to implement such simple yet useful options in an app..Version: 3.98

InterestingPretty cool app.Version: 3.98

Would be 5 stars butThe add-ons are so expensive! They'd make more money if they were $5 or even 99¢. Come on...we explorers, we scientists are poor folk living in an economy not suited for frivolous expenditures. Let's share our knowledge without cost. Who knows, had the in app purchases been less expensive, a poor person like myself could have afforded the cost of the feature that would have aided them in the discovery of the 9th planet in our solar system...or possibly our next home planet in a far off Galaxy. I guess mankind is doomed. Otherwise - amazing app!.Version: 3.98

Crash frequentlyCrash frequently, and does not load the purchased packages..Version: 3.98

Broken on iOS 14.3Application launches then shuts down immediately but persists in the background. When you click on Dailey events it also now crashes..Version: 3.98

Update Pluto and the rest of the moonsNasa’s New Horizon has really nice Pictures of Pluto , I don’t know how long development takes for this kind of stuff but I’m still waiting. Also every time I go on the app and look around the galaxy for 10 mins it glitches and brings me back to my phones Home Screen..Version: 3.98

Bought comet upgrade. No NeowiseVery annoyed..Version: 3.98

Get a different appI’ve tried three or four different free stargazing apps and this one is probably the worst. The biggest problem is that it insists on giving Arabic names for most stars even though it says it uses the main language you use on your phone—I don’t even have Arabic downloaded to my phone. But it also seems to miss things altogether—the other day I was 90 percent sure I was looking at Venus (which is huge) and it didn’t even show up. It doesn’t acknowledge several smaller constellations. I’ve never seen it acknowledge a meteor shower. It basically contributes nothing to my life. Oh I guess it helped me get better at recognizing Saturn—that’s one it usually gets right..Version: 3.98

Do NOT buy the comet upgrade!!It will not show neowise. It’s not on the list. 🤬.Version: 3.98

Not user friendly!I have tried many times to use this app. There are many upgrades available for all sorts of add-on levels, but as soon as one departs from the basic tracking screen, there is no way back ! User is stuck with a non-tracking display And although this mode will show a display of stars etc, and can be switched to planets of choice, pulled and turned by touch. There is no possibility to get back to the original useful tracking screen. There is NO menu to click on or help, just a search glass and settings tab, this is not much help, possible to set location and get a list of “upgrades “ .. while the basic user functions are missing, why would anyone purchase more upgrades ? I do not recommend this app at this time, look for something better ... at least thats what I am going to do. Sadly, I have wasted money on this one..Version: 3.98

It broke my iPadI had been using the app regularly, finding it really useful to locate and identify small telescope targets. However when I bought my new iPad I found that every time I used the app it would lock up the iPad completely. I’ve had to delete it, sadly..Version: 3.98

Worst app ever.Latest iPhone. Nothing is where it should be. Press search to find the moon. No actual search. Don’t bother installing it..Version: 3.98

LOUSY FOR COMETSI paid $9.95 for the comet upgrade, and the last 2 AMAZING comets were not in it!!! also bought The meteor showers upgrade and there are numerous minor meteor showers that aren’t included also. I can look in the newspaper for the Perseids. I was hoping this would go a little deeper, you know? . And the upgrade packs are 10 bucks apiece! SOOO disappointed!!!! The manual says they’re a handful of comets included (Hayley’s, etc.), and newer significant ones will be added as they appear. Wrong. Didn’t happen. What did I pay for? Can I get my $9.95 back for the comet upgrade package please? Display settings are also a little. wonky. if u put the star names on it’s so cluttered it’s hard to see anything, but if you zoom in it’s more useful. But Adding images and adding lines doesn’t seem to have any effect at all. It’s frustrating to use. I thought if I turned everything off except comets, then comets would be really easy to find. But tons of other stuff still appears anyway. It’s one of those apps where you get the feeling they were really excited about it until the money started rolling in and then they just stopped working on it. However, it is great for planets..Version: 3.98

Calibrate flashing problems since upgradeI own an iPhone 5 (yes, I know, old phone but that should not matter!!). Since upgrading OS to 10.3.4 I have had problems with Star Chart flashing the 'calibrate' screen up on the display and before I can calibrate, the screen switches back to the star chart. This happens continually and is very frustrating. I have always loved Star Chart and use it regularly but more so on my iPad. However, I don't always have my iPad with me!! It is still running iOS 9.3.5 (I think!) and is bug free! Yes, I know folks, it should be at iOS 12 at least but these buggy upgrades are a pain. What is going on with this?! Any help appreciated. Might have to bite the bullet and get a new phone but this one is fine and, as a retired engineer, there is a very good saying, "If it ain't' broken, don't fix it!!".Version: 3.98

Dr DogThe app seems alright but it doesn't sync to the stars here in Rarotonga ..Version: 3.31

Location rarely worksStar Chart usually won’t show the stars in the right positions. It says it has my location right, but it doesn’t..Version: 3.98

Not a good representation of the real skyMy usual test of an app like this is to try to find some easy constellations by hand (e.g. the plough, Cassiopeia) — if they are hard to see, then you have little hope of identifying something more exotic. In this app, the all stars are rendered as bright, making the plough hard to spot in the confusion of stars. I think it will by difficult to see a shape in the sky and match it with something on the screen..Version: 3.98

ImpressiveThe augmented reality mode is fantastic. You can swivel your phone and the star charts moves as the phone moves. It is a huge difference compared to an old style planisphere. It would be great to be able to zoom in and out more including zooming the font size. I am new to using the app, however so farThe information on the screen can be a bit crowded. I would like to be able to customize the size of labels of constellations so that they stand out more against what can appear a cluttered background. But look forward to using this more..Version: 3.98

HelpLove the app. Had to temporarily remove it and when I did a restore on the upgrades it charged me. Now when I try to use the app it shuts down..Version: 3.98

Doesn’t work anymoreDoesn’t open anymore on my Xs ☹️.Version: 3.98

Won’t show satellitesPaid for satellites in extras but won’t download, just keeps crashing when I try.Version: 3.98

Deceptive practicesI use this app on a weekly basis and have for a few years. It has been a great tool to teach myself, my family and neighborhood kids. Tonight, I felt as if I was taken to the bank. I was trying to locate the comet NEOWISE. I see the upgraded option for locating comets at $2.99 and thought it would be a great help. Unless I failed to read the fine print, if there was any, I assumed it would be able to locate the visible comet that has been in the news for the last few weeks. Went to search option and discovered it only locates comets that have been pre-selected, NEOWISE was not one of them. Huge disappointment from an app that I have really enjoyed using for a very long time..Version: 3.98

Great App When It’s Not CrashingMyself and my children love this app however it now crashes whenever I click on a search item with my iPad Pro. Tried reporting to developer however I couldn’t as it couldn’t find my linked subscription. The cause of the app crashing is when I restore services, if I don’t restore services then it works. Not happy that items I have paid for makes the app useless. If you don’t want the upgrades then it is good but if you do then it’s not a good app. This isn’t the first time this has happened..Version: 3.98

Really cool but a couple problemsThis app is really cool! I just got it last night to make sure the planet I saw in the sky was Venus. After clicking around on the app I purchased 2 add ons. One was the satellite add on and the other was the comet add on. Despite having proper internet, the satellite add on keeps saying “incomplete download detected” no matter how much I try to restore it. The comet add on(which I bought at the same time) got added successfully in no time at all. I wish the satellite add on would download or I could get a refund on it, it was quite expensive really but that’s the only issue I’m having. Overall it’s a good and educational app..Version: 3.98

Good In Theory - with a lot of in app purchasesAs title states this is a good app, the details are great and information pop up and reminders are well done BUT there are a lot of in app purchases to have it functioning at its best. They are not cheap either. While I can appreciate the effort and time put into creating the add ons I'd be more likely to purchase them if they were discounted and offered in a bundle pack. The interface looks good on first open but the swap between a "view event" and real time chart is cumbersome. That clunkiness is all throughout the app and its switches between menus/options. The aesthetics are impressive and enjoyable, the random shooting star animation is a cute touch. Most importantly the stats for each celestial body are informative and well done. All and all a good app but if you are looking for a one off payment equally a complete package type app than look elsewhere..Version: 3.98

Interesting appI've had this app for awhile but never used it much; I got it b/c a Facebook friend who's into astronomy frequently referenced it. Recently I (somehow) enabled notifications which, combined with this year's Pluto coverage, has led me to open the app much more often. I really like all the reference information and am learning a lot - the universe has changed considerably since my school days back in the Dark Ages. 🙂 However, I too, could use more & better instructions. Right now I'm more interested in reading the text than using it to look at the night sky, but I keep getting lost while trying to navigate the app. With better instructions, I would gladly give the app a higher rating..Version: 3.98

Sky looks differentAfter the initial novelty and suspension of frustration, I find it disappointing that the sky just looks nothing like the images this app presents. No, I am not expecting to see actual pictures of crabs and Viking ships in the sky... but at least the visible stars and planets should match up with what's presented - and they just don't quite do it for me: right now I am looking at Jupiter and, in my basic spotter scope I can see what looks like several moons which happen to be in a straight line; in this app they are not shown, or they are in the wrong places. While bright planets can be found and identified, on the screen they are shown to be closer through gross exaggeration of their size, which I find unhelpful. Speaking of exaggeration, the galaxies and nebula displayed by the app take the cake. They really take away from the usefulness of this app and make finding things more difficult as one has to mentally suppress the garbage. Could be so much better..Version: 3.98

A wealth of in-app purchase opportunitiesI came across Star Chart in the App Store® when yearning for a truly "authentic" augmented reality experience, and this product does not disappoint. There's a wealth of in-app purchases just begging to be explored; it's so addictive I almost hope they never end! It seems I can barely scroll past a single constellation without another upgrade opportunity obscuring the view – I'll have to start deleting my contacts soon to make room for all these new "investments"!! Lol P.S. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is the lack of a 'daytime' mode. Going outdoors in the pitch dark – like they seem to encourage(!) – feels really dangerous to me. Stay safe!.Version: 3.98

Not user friendlyMaybe with hours of serious use this is a great product. But I have tried several times to use it and am continually confused by it. Sometimes it seems to be in interactive mode, other times it has apparently frozen and the only way to get back to interactive display is to reboot. Moreover, when in interactive mode it doesn’t seem to be accurate. How about some instructions or help?.Version: 3.98

Star ChartPurchased the Comet addon expecting it to be up to date with newly discovered comets but no Comet lovejoy C/2014 Q2 which was discovered in August 2014. Wasted my money.Version: 3.95

Not updated, uselessI paid for the comets but it didn't have Neowise, despite saying notable comets will be added frequently. I guess the developers have abandoned this app. It's annoying anyway because you can't filter objects that are displayed by magnitude, so the screen is always full of everything baring no relation to what you might actually be able to see and making finding things very difficult..Version: 3.98

Great but disappointed nowI use to love this app, I'm a star gazer from years ago, this was a great addition to my life and so much fun both for myself and many of my friends. Now though it just wobbles, Constantly simmering . Perhaps it's just my iPhone and iPad but it is so frustrating and very disappointing. Don't know why it happens, have deleted and reloaded many times and it still simmers away. Are well tome to go and find something that actually WORKS.Version: 3.98

SatellitesI had Star Chart and even did one upgrade. A few years later upon using it again, they have made showing satellites an upgrade. I don’t like having things taken away after I already had it..Version: 3.98

Poor accuracy with iPad ProHave loved this app for a long term and on my older iPad it worked perfectly however since I upgraded to the pro the accuracy has dropped. Just tonight I tested it by pointing at the moon and I had to turn about 15 degrees away from it before the app showed me the moon... hopefully this will be an easy fix for the dev team. Then the app will get 5 stars..Version: 3.98

DisappointedCool app, but paid for upgrade to see neowise comet and it is not included in tracked comets.Version: 3.98

Can't open info on stars and planetsI used to love this app but now the settings icon has disappeared from the main screen and I can't touch on planets or stars to get more info... Quite disappointed with it now. I tried deleting the app and reloading it but it's still the same.....Version: 3.80

App crashes on launchI find that the app no longer runs. Just exits on launch. Is a fixed. Version available?.Version: 3.98

Annoying to useThis app has beautiful displays of constellations and stars. The night mode is a nice feature to keep your night vision, with that, the displays go to red on black. For identifying what stars you see in the night sky, I found this app to be difficult to use. First, it could not use my iPad's GPS to identify my exact location, so I had to set that manually, and the closest I could set it was about 50 miles away. You can only set it on population centers, which of course, are not good for star gazing because of the ground light. Second, you point it at a section of sky, and it shows you the stars and constellations in that section of sky, but of course, you have now blocked your view of the sky in that location, so you have to do this up and down movement trying to match what you see on the iPad to what you see in the sky. It does not use your device's camera to actually view stars as Sky View Free does. Finally, the most annoying feature of this app is it is constantly offering you further information and when you click on that offer it says, "You have to upgrade for that information, that will be $9.95". Sky View Free is a better free app for occasional star gazing..Version: 3.98
