Alice for the iPad for Negative User Reviews

Not for toddlersThe interactions are pretty minimal, and yes I bought the full expensive app. My toddler hates it. I found it boring as well. I was surprised how many good ratings it had. Maybe when she's much older? The illustrations are dark and few. More adult styles than big contrast fun child. You'd be better off with a regual paper book..Version: 3.01

AliceVery disappointing all the animations - what there are of them -are basically the same thing, could be so much better.Version: 3.01

Room for improvementsI enjoyed this, the illustration style was decent could have been better but we don't have much choice yet regrading various digital version in this new form or media so yeah. What i found lacking was sound effects, why go part way there? motion of graphics is great but sounds would have been nice along with audio reading of the book with a few choices of vocal talents. Developers need to push all angles if they want consumers to fork over the cash for such media, sounds for page turning and let the user set preferences and toggle them off for battery conservation if the battery is running low etc. This is good work and i love it for what it is but there IS ROOM for improvements..Version: 3.01

Woeful omissionErr.. Imagine reading a book and not being able to set a bookmark on the page you've got to? A fairly fundamental requirement to save where you've read to? Have I missed something or is this really not possible with this app?.Version: 0

Beautiful, but disappointed…Thought this would be a huge step up from the free Lite version and while there is more - it doesn't seem like the $8.99 spent bought a ton of extra content. My daughter was very disappointed at how condensed this abridged version was..Version: 0

Doesn't run on ipad 3Asking for money back :(.Version: 3.01

Alice for the ipadBuyer beware! it's ok, but not nearly as exctingas the video makes it appear to be. no sound effects and limited text. certainly not worth the money in this version..Version: 0

DisappointingI got it, based on the hype of all media, and it is a disappointment. There is a lot of space for much more interactivity and multimedia. Didn't like it.... Hope to see more books but better..Version: 0

I wish I could return for a refundI impulsively bought this app after watching the demo video online and I'm sorry to say, the experience is deeply disappointing. Every single person I handed the iPad to tried to interact with the animations by touching them, it's an touch screen after all, and seemed surprised that they couldn't. One can't "flip" pages intuitively, instead having to rely on a clunky-looking arrow navigation. Same goes for the accelerometer-controlled animations, my kids want to touch, move things with their fingers, interact... not just watch them floating across the page. Very sad. Oh yeah... there's no sound either. The illustrations are GORGEOUS but the sporadic big typography inserts are overdone and inconsistent (with tacky drop shadows and emboss). Just not elegant at all. I eagerly paid for it but I expected a lot more, while my kids, even thou they love books, were bored..Version: 0

Can't select chapterIt would have been good to be able to jump to a specific chapter in the book from the chapter index. If you go to index icon, a display of 4 pages is shown and you have to scroll through them looking for a specific page. Also the index only contains page numbers, and there is no indication in this display to show start of each chapter..Version: 3.01

Really quite naffI will admit that I’m an adult reader who was curious about this app. I thought it looked a bit like the Alice pop-up book I’d had as a child. I was quite disappointed though as there’s not enough variety. All the text pages are very uninspired and dull, while there aren’t enough interactive pages for my liking - and the animations often don’t have much to do with the story. I quite liked the Cheshire Cat, however....Version: 4.0.1

Update PleaseI know this is an older app but it needs an update to fix some bugs with the moving images and such. Also, maybe through the looking glass or some extra content like background or history on the book would be great. Still a pretty cool app currently though. Thanks..Version: 3.01

No audio?????It is a beautiful book, but no audio. Especially disconcerting when bottles drop, candies fall and other interactive events happen with dead silence. If you want to be highbrow and make children read the book instead of listening, fine. But please, give the interactive scenes sound effects..Version: 0

Broken in iOS 8Crashes shortly after startup on an iOS 8 iPad 4. Consistently. Currently completely broken..Version: 3.01

Nice and yet...Gorgeous but this is basically an ebook with a few moving things. Think of it as this generations "pop up book". From the overhyped reviews here I was expecting something more tham what I got. Not to discount the beauty of the ebook itself, but at the price I was expecting more and was a bit disappointed..Version: 0

Crashing on launchI've been reading this with my children, but alas for the iOS 8.x versions. Can't read it any more, as it crashes on launch. Any solutions? I'd give it a 2-star bump if it works again..Version: 3.01

Through the looking glassI bought this book and was astonished by the interactivity. However, I think they should include the second part to it called " Through the Looking Glass" as an update. It'll be a huge Way of bringing sales up concerning this book app. Please do So because i'm pretty sure a lot of people are by now anticipating It..Version: 0

DatedMost interactive books now not only read to you, but also allow you to record your own readings, this does neither..Version: 3.01

Where is the rest of the storyThere are some interesting gimmicks in this app but none of which make up for the fact that most of the story is missing and at the price marked I excepted the whole story. Good look, mildly interactive and over priced. I hope this app will have an update with the rest of the story in it..Version: 0

Modern? that? All the hip and how this is modern and pioneer way of telling a book. £6 for very few animations and worst of all, NO Narration. They take whole lot money for a silly implementation and didn't bother to get someone to narrate the thing. Commodore 64 developers would have done it better. Promise and potential to the bin..Version: 3.01

App with potentialVery good story App but very weak interactivity and the fact that their is not a play option with highlighting of the words is a bad oversight especially for this price..Version: 3.01

DisappointedI had earlier ordered Charlie Brown's Christmas and was impressed, so I ordered Alice, expecting something similar with respect to the use of presenting a magical story on the iPad. I was sadly disappointed. Alice in Wonderland is begging for an interactive magical experience for the reader and viewer--but the potential is sorely missed. Instead of magic from interactive visuals and touch pad play, the story, with illustrations, is pretty much it. I have no doubt that someone with the imagination of Lewis Carrol will come along and make a great app out of this magical tale. It is worth waiting until that happens..Version: 3.01

WasteVery disappointed. Bought the app which wasn't cheap. But it has not opened. A waste of money!!.Version: 3.01

Classic story, unimaginative and repetitive app. There are better interactive storybooks out there..Version: 0

NOT AS GOOD AS...Where exactly are the 250 pages? I can't access beyond the 52!.Version: 3.01

AliceOver priced for what it is. The promotion for this product is very exagerated.Version: 0

Not working anymore with IOS8Very nice book when it works, as previous review mention it crash every time you want to open the app. Totally useless until they make an update..Version: 3.01

I'm torn...Pros: this is beautifully illustrated and there's just enough fun going on to not distract from the story. Cons: it's super short for $9. I was expecting to do a few pages a night and was finished in two. Overall: The lite version is only missing a few pages, so stick with that for free..Version: 0

Can't write a reviewI would like to write a review, but I can't because it won't even open on IOS8. No news of when an update will come and no response about a refund. This was purchased for my disabled sister. Extremely disappointed..Version: 3.01

DisappointedReally disappointed by this. Does not live up to the hype. Offers very little beyond the printed book. Other kids book apps put it in the shade..Version: 3.01

Not what I had hopedThis is far from an exciting Ebook especially for the price and the hype. Look at Peter Rabbit or Our Choice- now they are genuinely interactive, very slick and fabulous. This one is not..Version: 3.01

Disappointed. Not interactive at allNothing like the other ocean series such as dr. Seuss or little critters, where touching a word allows it to be read aloud..Version: 4.0.1

CrashesWith the recent software update, the app crashes on launch. The app developer has a responsibility to maintain apps after purchase, but this developer has failed to do so with any of the apps I've purchased from it. Very disappointed..Version: 3.01

Interesting - but could have been so much better! This is a fascinating variation on presenting a text, but despite the bright colours it is actually very limited... Objects differ, but their behaviour remains constant; things - tarts, flowers- fall, graphics move (slightly) from side to side, but there are few surprises. The heavily cut text doesn't help experience the narrative (too many sub-Carroll linking passages don't help, either). It's a good show-off-the-iPad app., but it's expensive, and a long way short of the original. I wish I'd waited for the next version... WELL - the next version is here, and very sadly all that's changed seems to be the addition of missing text, added on pages of identical background. No new animations; just page after page of static text.....Version: 0

Poor value for moneyThis book is way overpriced. Take a look a Beanstalk and you'll find a book with far better interaction for a fraction of the price. This book is interactive, but the interactions are too simplistic, they are few and far between and struggle to maintain young kids attention. The Jack and the Beanstalk book sets a standard that this book needs to at least meet at a price point that puts Alice in the rip-off category..Version: 0

$9 - Serious?Don't get me wrong. I liked the concept a bunch. However, for $9 that's a bit steep for something that took me 30 minutes to read aloud to my child. The interactive stuff is cool and all, but not worth multiple read throughs. Frankly I feel a bit taken for. Awesome book at $3..Version: 0

Doesn't workJust crashes on opening on the new iPad Air..Version: 3.01

Don't buy this until they fix it.I think I just paid atomic antelope $8 for nothing. I should have read the reviews. Don't buy this until they update to newer OS or maybe never..Version: 3.01

Completely UnimpressedI am an interactive art director and judging by some of the reviews I was expecting to be impressed from this app. My experience was the complete opposite and not only that I feel ripped off for the price. Don't bother..Version: 3.01

Its decentI really do like this app, but there aren't nearly enough interactive/moving pages to make it worth $8.99..Version: 3.01

Disappointing...For all the hype surrounding this app, I was expecting more clever or unique animations, there are almost no sounds throughout the book...and there's no Read to Me, which frustrates my toddler who loves to read it "by herself". Wouldn't buy it again, check out Black Crow entertainment books like Peter Rabbit and the Boynton titles...much better for kids. Only redeeming quality of this book are the beautiful and eerie illustrations, but that appeals to me, not my daughter, who I bought the app for..Version: 3.01

Great app with a major flawI really love this app and enjoy reading it with my daughter but PLEASE allow me to give it 5 stars by making the swipe to change page optional! Every time she moves the stuff round on screen it changes the page and I have to close the app to avoid me throwing the iPod out of the window. It is a huge problem that almost makes this unusable for small children. She just wants to play with the graphics on one page but this is not possible for very long......please fix..Version: 0

OverpricedKids did not like it. They fund it boring. Take a look at Peter rabbit book..Version: 3.01

Beautiful but too abridgedThis is a beautiful-looking application, and my daughter and I have really enjoyed reading it together. She likes the illustrations and the little bits of interaction. Really the only two complaints are: 1) It's not well-proofread or edited, so there are typos and awkward transitions; 2) it's simply too abridged. The free version will get you most of the book, so once you pay you get just a bit more, because they've edited the story so aggressively. That leads to the awkward transitions, and there's too much of the story missing. Even my 6-1/2 year-old daughter knew that there was much of the story edited out. Come on, guys, give us an update with more of the book put back in, okay? It can't be that hard. Give us most or all of the story and I'll immediately up my rating to 5 stars. This could be an example of where books can be taken in the future, but instead it feels a bit cheap..Version: 0
