FileBrowser: Documents Manager for Negative User Reviews

Cannot Rename PicturesI bought this app for the sole reason of renaming photos on my iPad Pro. I don’t use cloud nor any other Apple devices. Nowhere is a function to actually rename a picture. I can share, delete, copy, export, create a link, add voice, see properties, markup, etc… but not simply "rename". Waste of money. Got a free trial in photoshop and managed to find how to rename my pictures in 10 seconds..Version: 23.9

Great functionality but needs stabilityLoving the app, but it crashes when I edit or view large text files like php, css or logs. Sometimes it saves my edits. Sometimes I get prompted to update the bookmark but it may or may not save the file. Awesome app in functionality, concept and design... just fix those bugs!.Version: 14.6

Now mostly uselessI have been using Filebrowser for several years now to move files from my desktop to my iPad, hanging in there and putting up with the klunkiness because it was still better than iTunes, which has become increasingly useless. And now Filebrowser has become equally useless. Oh, there are slick new features — it will SCAN for other computers on the network, and ask you about them before assuming they’re all Windows boxes! You have a private folder now, and one you can share with other apps!... for what *that’s* worth. Because now you can no longer just open a file in the appropriate app. It DOES NOT RECOGNIZE an epub or mobi file as a book format, let alone know the app that reads them. I can no longer move pdfs using Filebrowser into Goodreader. In fact, unless you want to use Pages, Numbers, or Keynote, it apparently doesn’t export non-video/audio files at all. It doesn’t even really export video/audio, either — just streams them. Deinstalling this now-worthless piece of software as soon as this is posted..Version: 11.1

Ruined by latest upgradeNo longer plays video. Wants to stream to another (typically paid) app. Bring back the internal video player please..Version: 23.1

Dealbreaker!Unfortunately, this was a total waste of a purchase for me. I was looking for a file manager app that offers a password-protected file area in addition to a startup password. As I always do prior to purchasing an app, I carefully read the description here in the App Store, and then I went to the dev’s website to read up on all the features not listed in the App Store description. The website stated this: “We pride ourselves in the security of our product and the flexibility it provides you. You can set a startup password, lock the My Private Files area, and set the level of protection you need.” What the description failed to mention, however, is that you don’t get to choose the password for the “My Private Files” area. It is automatically set as the exact same password as the startup password, which is totally mind-boggling. Once I discovered this, I immediately deleted the app. Perhaps you should make this fact clear in the description, so others don’t waste their time and money. There is really no point in offering the ability to lock the “My Private Files” area if it must share the same password as the startup password. If someone happens to crack the startup password, they can also get right into the “My Private Files” area by entering the very same password. I doubt anyone who takes security seriously would consider that a security feature..Version: 16.1

No MKV support? Wow.Crashes on iPad 11 pro any time you attempt to play an .mp4 on latest update. Still no .mkv support..Version: 23.15

FrustratingNot for the novice. Unfortunately I purchased this app when there was no free trial. Looking to use with WD home cloud drive seeing WD software for the drive is so notoriously bad. Could only get the app to partially work by doing a hard reset on my iPad Pro after many long hours trying to nut through the setup process. Support for the app comprises of a link from the support centre to a help page! The only thing I got from the help page was to learn that this app does not support the WD home cloud drive unless you reconfigure the drives UI. I was looking to minimise the amount of storage on Apples iCloud, looks like I will be increasing it to TB storage. As I said not for the novice and with next to no support I suggest you give it give it a big miss, unless you like banging you head against a brick wall. Have just changed my rating back to one star after it was changed to four stars Have gone back and tried to get this app to work, but have since noticed that the most basic functions of the “FileBrowser” fail. In the photo library of the app you can brows photos in the camera roll, but when you go to the Albums folder in the app some of the Albums are empty even though the photos display in the camera roll section.....Too hard..Version: 13.3

Very annoying since the last updateThis application used to work but since the last update it hijacks all of the “Open file” taps from Files. Any file that I tap on now gets opened up in Filebrowser instead of the application that is supposed to handle that file. For example, if I am in Files and tap on a Pages file it should open up in Pages so that I can edit and work on that file. However, now it opens up in Filebrowser, which is clearly not what I want to happen..Version: 15.2

Depends on your intended applicationYou can access and manage your files remotely but it doesn’t want to stream video files without constant buffering and often times out file browser so I have to re-open the application and select the file again it is pretty unbearable. I got filebrowser to make sharing easier between pc and iOS so I could view my library from my main desktop without having to lug around hardrives. Their video player only seems to play mp4 file types. Also my WiFi network is ridiculous so it is definitely filebrowser underperforming..Version: 16.7

Does not support ancient avi, swf, nor current mkv video formatsThey claim to have "restored airplay to its former glory" yet it doesn't support common video formats, not give you an option to "open in...". Waste of money, other apps will do what this app does for free..Version: 12.1

Family sharingFamily sharing doesn’t work..Version: 20.15

What going on with the videos?I’m been having problems since iOS 15 on my iPad mini 3 the videos having problems playing & I have to restart the app all the time to play the videos. Please fix thanks.Version: 20.28

AirplayWould be a great app if it supported airplay.Version: 2.0.1

SchoolIt crashes all the time even in school hoursa.Version: 15.1

No AWS S3 option ?I trail version had the connect to aws s3 option but the paid version does not ? I only need to uploading to s3 bucket. Can help me figure out else going to refund..Version: 20.37

Cannot open SMB shares in bookmarks after December 2019 updateSomething wrong after December 2019 update.Version: 16.6

Don’t buy if you have new iPad ProI have used this app for many years (both versions FB and FB for Business) and have always thought it was an essential excellent app BUT it no longer works on a new iPad Pro after latest update The flyer over function doesn’t work as folders can’t be accessed and image files are now saved as .png instead of .jpg. It is disappointment that there is no quality control in the updates. Unfortunately after finding FB for Business didn’t work I use FB. It was automatically updated and that doesn’t work either. Don’t buy if you have new iPad Pro..Version: 15.0

Annoying Connection WizardI have been using FileBrowser for a long time and it has been great, however I have become extremely frustrated with the connection wizard. It takes a ridiculously long time for the stupid animations to load and the text fields are way too small! Contrary to what you say on your website, this does not follow Apple design guidelines, and is extremely unintuitive. I look forward to seeing this feature removed so I can be a satisfied customer once again..Version: 9.7

Latest update lacks GOOD mouse supportUnfortunately Stratospherix have (for once?) not done a good job on the mouse support for FB. Of course, the rest of the app is functional and highly reliable, but mouse support feels and looks like an afterthought. Right clicking on files opens them (!) and the UI elements don’t all react in the same way when you mouse over them. Pretty sure they will tidy this up, but I’m docking two stars until this happens..Version: 20.3

Heat/Battery Drain IssuesI started using this app as my main file manager app for a couple of years however I've started using Documents 5 again because one of the recent updates has caused excessive heat and battery drain on my iPhone X as well as my iPad mini 5. The iPhone seems to get a little warm but the iPad however will suddenly get hot near the right side of the device. The battery drain occurs on both devices. This occurs until I close FileBrowser from the app switcher. Otherwise this is a great app and I'll change this review to 5 stars once this has been fixed and don't notice any issues for a few months..Version: 15.5

They screwed something upNot sure when, as I do not often transfer mp4 files. But when I first got this app the transfer and playback were fine. More recently however I have found that video files transferred to the iPad are damaged in some way. It’s as if only a fraction of frames per second are playing, resulting in sloppy playback that is painful to watch (and might induce seizures in some people). Since it didn’t used to behave like this I can only assume that the developers broke something and haven’t fixed it. Do not buy this app if you want to use it to transfer and play home videos. Right now it’s only useful for photos or documents..Version: 23.16

No longer browse and play network files from windows 7 box since updateJust as the title says. No longer able to play movie files from my windows pc. Tried the trouble shooting added the ip to the address added the pc name.local nothing... before update worked... since update junk!.Version: 20.13

Could not make it workPlugged a USB into my router. FB would not connect to the router/drive because Windows (SMB) File Sharing was not activated. This app did not meet my needs..Version: 2.0.1

New interface loses it for me, was 5 star beforeThe new interface completely changes the user experience. If we have PAID for a product we should expect it to still RESEMBLE what we paid for. I find the new interface much more limiting. Please bring back the old one or have an option to select it. if not I will have to ask if I can get a refund even though it was more than 12 months since I first downloaded. David.Version: 20.3

Can’t play videoThis use to be ok, it keeps going downhill with every app update now it just doesn’t play video. Maybe for a bit then just stops..Version: 23.2

Excellent app ... but ...Have used this app for years and generally love it. However it’s well overdue for allowing native MKV file playback. Having to local stream to VLC is less than ideal especially if wanting to play a whole directory of videos..Version: 15.5

Can't connect to the server?Files are on iPhone and to play them I get the error ^^^, need to wait about 5-7 minutes to actually open the files. Using media player that is in the app, to use external player I get 2 options, play... and download, play never works ( VLC ) download? From one app to another? Seems like a waste of space and just apsurd..Version: 20.31

Please Add Background App refresh SupportLove this app, but if I wanted to copy a file from my computer to my iPad or iPhone while the screen is off the transfer will not finish or take forever. Other apps liked FileExplorer Pro have this functionality were I can send a file to the iPad and let it finish in the background while the iPad screen is off. I don’t know how hard it’s to enable this option, but it would be my favorite app if this option would be enabled. Also, when you transfer a file, you can’t really use the app since the info banner is in the middle of the screen. Please make that minimized so that you can still browse for file while copying in the background. Thanks!!!.Version: 14.1

Great app but new update breaks thingsWhy do you keep breaking this great app? Now when I try and open files over a network, the files in the window all seem to want to preload. Selecting a file does nothing for minutes. Then suddenly, the icon becomes a thumbnail and it eventually starts opening..Version: 20.30

Can’t print manual single sided, obnoxious watermarkWhy would anyone selling a _utility_ app force purchasers to print the associated manual double-sided (no option for single sided printing) and, to top it off, include a watermark that is almost as dark as the text—rendering the printed manual virtually unreadable? For all I know, this may be the greatest app since soft ice cream but I may never get there because I can’t read the dang manual. Seriously, people, think of your users when you make decisions like this. FWIW, the problem I’m having that I was looking for an answer to in the manual is how to selectively access documents from a particular app on my iPad and move them to/access them from other iPads and even my MBP. Some things are easier to scan for in a printed document—IN MOST CASES. Mind you, I’ve used Macs since 1984 and iPads since they first came out, so I rarely need to access manuals. But this app appears to have sufficient meat that reading the manual might have been worthwhile..Version: 15.5

Great application - Slideshow option could be betterThis is a great app and I’ve been using it for ages. They changed something in the coding for the slideshow system though that’s super annoying. When you have the slideshow on random, then pause the slideshow you can’t go to the next file in the sequence like you could before. The current solution is to exit then find the image then open it so the images will be in sequence. If your showing clients images and they spot something they want to see more of it’s embarrassing to exit and search. If it wasn’t random after pausing a slideshow the whole process would be better. Support said they “Might introduce an option in the future” and it’s been months since they said that. It was there before why not just add the option to do what was possible before? Video support could also be better, like built in brightness, volume, and skipping gestures. With these additions I wouldn’t have to use multiple apps for different media types and my clients would be happier in my displaying media..Version: 14.8

Terrible and obstructive behaviorUpdate: Don’t get this app. Another thing that this app does it “hacks” into your file system and wants to open your other documents. I.e. if you try to open a Pages document on your iCloud Drive it will open in FileBrowser. I tried everything to turn this behavior off but with no success. Googling it is also impossible because their generic app name gets you millions of other topics called file browser. Stick with the apple drive or use Google drive. It’s a ridiculous good program with one major problem: I can’t see all my files on iCloud. I searched the internet, their support site and can’t find any solution. My Files folder from iCloud works well but I don’t understand why FileBrowser is not able to access the same files. If it could do that its a 5 star app..Version: 14.8
