UK Map for Positive User Reviews

Best Mac app. Very reliableI’ve been using this app for quite a while. The developers have been very observant and passionate about its functionality and smooth operation. They have also been very sensible with in app purchases. The app itself is laden with some great features. Love this app and it always accompanied my paper maps on walks and adventures..Version: 4.2

Great AppThis is a fantastic app. Been using it for years when cycling and hillwalking. Very easy to use and the recent updates add new functionality. Well done to the developers.Version: 3.4

So reliable, and great gazetteer.I’ve had this installed since 2012 and wouldn’t be without it. It’s just so fluid in use, and finds places that the OS app denies all knowledge of. Highly recommended for anyone mooching around in Britain..Version: 4.4

Essential map app used every dayThis app is by far the best uk mapping app by a mile, kilometre, furlong or any other measure. I use it every day for business, leisure, pleasure and search and rescue! Incredible value for money, intuitive, powerful, feature packed and thoroughly putting the various offerings of official OS to shame..Version: 3.1

Brilliant AppWe recently completed the Coast to Coast trail in Cumbria and North Yorkshire. We were never lost and always knew where we were thanks to this app. The combination of OS maps and Openmaps trail and path information provides an essential tool for the walker. Other comments complaining about the cost of this app are ridiculous. This app costs less than a single paper map yet covers the whole of Britain. Thank you for a superior product..Version: 2.3

Outstanding and worth the moneyThis app is the only reason I’m still using iPhones. It can be a little confusing to start with and I recommend to read the help pages first. But once you can get the hang and remember to download the maps, it’s perfect and worth the low one of price. Well the only thing I’m critical about is the ui but it’s perfectly functional..Version: 4.4

Updated !!Apple said this app would not work with the next version of iOS. The author has updated and I presume this is sorted now. This app is wonderful - and I didn't want to lose it on an iOS 'upgrade'. And yes I would have paid for an upgrade that worked with no extra functionality - but this update has MORE. Probably one of the very best of iOS apps for British users or anyone visiting Britain. It is essential for anyone exploring the country. Wherever I'm travelling I check before I set off that I have maps covering the area and have immediate access to the best maps even without internet access. THANK YOU!!.Version: 3.1

Superb appI like the U.S. but travel to the U.K. from time to time and have always liked the maps there. Navigation in England is much more a challenge than in the midwest U.S. Anyway, this is one of the first apps I bought on my iPad 3G and it has been excellent! There were some tech issues leading up to the UK iPad release but the developer was very responsive and got them fixed. What I adore about this app is that there is no delay while maps download. The built-in Maps on the iPad is really good, but it does rely on an active data link for the images. UK Maps has them all on the local machine, and you can download and store additional street-level detail for selected areas. I am working out a five week trip for my daughter this summer and this mapping is very useful for that. I would also note that last year I was over and had a Garmin GPS unit with me. This worked very well in getting me right to my next destination but at the cost of losing perspective about what was around me as I went, as I hadn't pored over maps picking the routes ahead of time. This UK Maps app would restore that perspective, it's a pity the iPad wasn't out last year! Although not by this developer, the Mini A-Z Map of London is also a good implementation of a machine-resident map. Like the UK Maps, it will show you your position using the 3G's GPS when it can see the satellites..Version: 0

Terriffic app!!!Great job by the developer! The only feature I could think to ask for would be a bookmarking function....Version: 0

Best UK Mapping AppThis is one of the best apps I have on my phone. I use it all the time doing local walks and while in the mountains. I have had this app for years now, and it has never disappointed me..Version: 4.3

Brilliant updateThe latest update has made a brilliant app even better. The way points and recording of a route are really useful additional functions. Just back from walking holiday on Dartmoor and this app was invaluable and always accurate..Version: 3.1

Almost perfectI recently reloaded this app after a few years and was really pleased to see that the classic (and unbeatable) paid OS maps can now be purchased at good value without an annoying subscription. This along with the ability to adjust settings and get the best combinations of free OS Vector (I.e. visible contour shading) and StreetView information (i.e. local footpaths) in the same place, all available off-line, makes this a powerful and hard to beat app. If I could wish for one or two things... I would prefer to use paper map digital downloads on this app (rather than OS maps), and an ability to overlay cycle maps would be helpful. But otherwise, this is very very good!.Version: 4.2

Hiking in the UK you need this appSince walking the Coast to Coast in 2012nI have been using this app for my annual hikes in the UK. I use it on my iPad Pro to plan hikes and then use my iPhone on the hikes for navigation. The older OS Open Map Local and Street View maps are useful but you can also, through in app purchases, buy updated OS maps. The 3D view helps one get a better idea of the ups and downs of the terrain. One can import walking maps from other sources or draw one’s own. During a walk it can be recorded and after turned into a track. There are graphs to show height and distance of each walk. Over the almost 10 years this app has been available many improvements and features have been added. And should you run into an anomaly Phil is very responsive in supporting his product. All around my favourite hiking tool..Version: 4.2

SuperbThis is a truly great app. I used it whilst on holiday. For £7.99 you get the whole UK down to 1 to 10,000. I found it brilliant for sitting in the passenger seat navigating by and also having the town maps for the places I visited was great. You have to download the maps you require before hand so you have to plan what you need but there are then no connection issues whilst traveling. I have always loved using OS maps in their paper form when on holiday but this is possibly even better. Well worth the money..Version: 4.6

Great appDetailed maps and GPS that work offline. The free maps – open street map, I think – are incredibly good and arguably better than the OS maps. I use this for walks all the time. I thoroughly recommend..Version: 4.6

Worked like a dreamSpent 2 weeks in Scotland with a car that wouldn't let our Garmin recharge. This was a perfect resource as it not only showed us where we were going but also surrounding points of interest. We were also able to use it on hikes and the downloaded Ordinance maps was great in detail. Would recommend to anyone with iPad going to the UK..Version: 2.0.4

Really, really good and fantastic valueMy go to mapping app for years now. Uses OS Maps and allows you to download them so it still works offline. We use the coordinates display for geo-caching📘✏️🔍 😊.Version: 3.1

UKmapV impressive. Works flawlessly. Excellent maps ... And all free! Having all public footpaths would be a fantastic improvement! 2017 update is a major improvement - it just got even better! An amazing app! A brilliant app … and still my go to map app after quite a few years!.Version: 4.4

UK Maps is brilliant!Just returned from a two week driving trip through Yorkshire, the Lake District and North Wales and cannot say enough good things about this app. I had my Nuvi GPS also but had no need for it with UK Map on the iPad. I was always pinpointed on the map and every road no matter how narrow or rural was shown. Just remember to download the higher resolution map blocks for areas where you will traveling with an Internet connection before going and it will be effortless. Sorry Nuvi but your travel days are over..Version: 0

Love this appGenuinely love this app. Every year I go walking with friends and before we go I download all the maps for the area and it’s saved us from getting lost on numerous occasions. Fantastic app.Version: 3.4

Great app, but tracking stops recordingThis a really great app for walking with the dog. Lots of new routes to find and explore and easily being able to follow the designated paths. But, on a SIM enabled iPad Mini 2 iOS 10.3.3, tracking recording seems to abort when the app crashes, and it seems to crash quite a bit under a lock screen. If this gets fixed, 5 stars..Version: 3.1

Without doubt the best OS mapping app out thereExcellent app, accurate feature packed and works flawlessly without a 3G connection (as long as your iPad has a gps chip that is) Keep up the good work Phil and please don’t sell it - it’s great to know that it comes from a trustworthy source..Version: 4.1

An Essential App.Have used this App. extensively for a number of years now. I would find it difficult to live without it now. Nothing is 100% perfect, but this is close. After repeated warnings on the old version about iOS compliance, I am so pleased to see this new compliant version. It now also has a more intuitive interface. The map data is pretty accurate too, so no longer constantly buying OS maps, which is good!.Version: 3.1

Indispensable app! With this app you can have (for free) the entire UK in high detailed on your phone. It has GPS which means if you have low battery or no WiFi or data access you can navigate out of trouble. OS maps are miles better than the crap google maps. This app is indispensable!.Version: 4.1

REALLY helpfulWe used this app on a recent trip to the UK. It worked very well. App never had any issues getting location by GPS. Just be certain to download any detail maps you will need when you have an internet connection. (I occasionally found I had omitted a "corner" with details and only had the large map.) Internet access is NOT needed to use map with GPS - great out in the boonies. Detail maps are good enough to use for walking. Only drawback is that sometimes the road number labels were "off screen" for area you're looking at - sometimes scrolling was required to determine which way you wanted to go. App is not cheap, but it performed very well and was definitely worth the cost. Highly recommended..Version: 2.2

Great detailMore detail than you get with a rental car map, so we were able to route around problem areas and go exploring on weekends. Loved it!.Version: 2.1

It's really good ...value, features, usability, reliabilityI'm sold on this app. It used to be really good with great value access to maps at several levels of scale. Then they added a ton of route features. It took me a while to get my head around them but the support for this app is also exceptionally good. The route planning and recording does more things than I've had a chance to try out yet but all the basic things [plan a route then record a days cycling] I've done work well. I'm not loyal or anything. I recently looked to see if the competition from OS maps (or others) had anything to offer. Some of what OS maps is supposed to offer sounds really cool but if you read the reviews and look at the features and implementation.... I can't see why anyone would bother. I just think that when a small company gets so much right and continues to work to get better, it deserves to be acknowledged..Version: 3.1

Great appThis is the map app I use the most. The maps (essentially OS) maps are the best available. It doesn't do navigation like google maps but the maps themselves are way better. Truly excellent for hiking and general travel, and much much cheaper than the similar OS app, since the maps these early are free. Highly recommended..Version: 2.6

BrilliantJust love it when searching for villages from where my ancestors migrated to Australia..Version: 0

Brilliant valueLove this app, been using it for years for hikes, runs and cycles. I record my activity tracks and export the files to computer to file away. I download gpx files of trails from websites e.g. Pennine Way, and open in this app, to navigate along the trail. One off payment, and access to maps wherever I am in the UK. Sure, the free OS maps aren’t as good as the superb OS Explorer maps, but with most footpaths cleverly overlaid they’re good enough for my needs and a far more cost effective option than buying individual maps, or an OS subscription. Shame it doesn’t work abroad!.Version: 4.6

Fantastic appHave looked for a good app like this for ages. As a mapping app showing detailed views, footpaths, and all the bells and whistles this is simply superb. Worth every penny (and more) - congratulations on an absolutely first rate app that is a pleasure to use. Indispensable!.Version: 3.1

A boon for walking toursI am preparing for my third walking visit to the UK (2013). Last year, UK Maps was a great help in planning my walks into Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor. This year, I'll be finding my way to several fishing streams in Scotland. Once again, this app has been an invaluable assistant for planning (and dreaming). I remember the weight and bulk of the Ordnance Survey maps I had to pack on my trip to Wales in '96, before the days of tablets and smartphones.... All these great maps stored in just one of many travel apps on my iPad which will be tucked into my backpack. It doesn't get any better than this!.Version: 2.2

Excellent for off-network and OS mappingI’ve been using this as a back-up to my OS maps when hiking, and for trail-running. It works very well, the quality of the maps is excellent, and the developer is pretty quick to update for new versions of ios. Worth every penny..Version: 3.1

AmazingThis app has gone from being the most useful app on my phone to become an amazing tool that I would be lost without. The second amazing thing is it's FREE, I would be happy to pay a premium to use this app, it is that good..Version: 3.1

Excellent with subtle but very useful featuresI work for a home delivery supermarket and this app is occasionally a lifesaver to mark locations and navigate to. You can do this offline of data usage so is good for poor reception areas. GPS can help guide you in, can import gpx file for cycle planning in my spare time too or create routes with stats displayed…all round ideal for my purposes.Version: 4.6

Indispensable!I recently cycled from Land's End to John O' Groats. I took along paper maps, but this app was indispensable on the few occasions where I was doubtful about my location or just wanted to know how far up a hill I had come. It was especially useful in larger towns where it's easy to make navigation errors. Being able to download maps in advance of the trip, and turn off my phone's data connection (with the GPS still active) saved me huge data roaming charges, and gave me instant access to the maps when I needed them. I didn't have the app open all the time, but when I needed it, it worked, and it was fast. I had another app with me for "offline" GPS use, and it also worked well, but this was my go-to option. It's a pity the 1:50,000 scale maps Ordnance Survey maps aren't available (due to licensing differences) as they would provide interesting detail, but this app is nonetheless great value..Version: 2.1

Essential for all hikersI literally would be lost without this app! Fantastic support too they were very responsive dealing with an issue associated to upgrade to iOS14.2. Keep up the good work!.Version: 4.2

The map app for the UKI like maps and have looked at lots of map apps but this is the one for walking, cycling etc in the UK. It is one of the main reasons I have stayed with iOS. I wrote that review a few years ago and this is still my favourite map app for the UK..Version: 4.6

Great offline map viewer for UK travelI used this app extensively while traveling around the UK, it is so much faster to browse than a network dependent app like Google Maps and it always worked in places of poor/no reception. Great functionality such as being able to switch on/off the GPS to ration power (my only quibble is that it resets the zoom level when you do so) which is very useful on days of long travel. I've spoken to the developer, the high app price is only to pay for the server bandwidth for all the hi-res map downloads that app users make from his server when they are setting up their offline detail maps..Version: 2.6

Excellent and well maintained appI purchased this OS map app many years ago and am always pleasantly surprised as it continues to be upgraded and updated with current OS maps (without trying to charge extra). It has been useful and reliable on many occasions, installed on many iPhones over the years. Lots of apps like this stagnate after an initial few updates, but not this one. Well done and thanks to the conscientious developer..Version: 3.4

App saved my baconOn a weeks wild camping in the Lakes, came onto Grisdale Tarn in a complete whiteout. Old clever gibbons thought to take shortcut than follow the tarn as a landmark, no GPS or working compass ( as crushed it) or map, still managed to get this app to work with pinpoint accuracy as to my location and made a new friend with a little blueman tracking me, helped managed to get off the mountain. Thanks..Version: 4.6

TremendousSuperb little app that integrates OS data and even lets you import GPX walks. Went on a ramble yesterday and this saved us at least an hour of wandering about in the wrong direction. Pretty economic in space terms too. Great!.Version: 3.1

A Professional ToolThis is a full on professional navigation tool . No bloatware - no social media clutter. It simply does everything it is supposed to do - really well . If you want to know where the nearest recommended coffee shop is - it’s probably not for you If you want to navigate safely out of a difficult situation - buy it !!.Version: 4.6

Outstanding appI’ve used UK Map extensively for a year and a half or so, and can honestly say it’s paid for itself many times over. Having tried a variety of outdoor navigation apps, it’s by far my favourite; mainly thanks to the very clear user interface. Every time I use other apps (outside the UK) I get annoyed about useless features, maps take forever to download even on fast internet, clunky interface, etc. Nitpicking: unfortunately the app has a tendency to crash/ cause my phone to switch off when a recorded walk or run exceeds 25km or so, but the files have always been recovered reliably. A huge thanks to the developer who has created the clearest, most user friendly outdoor navigation app I’ve ever used..Version: 4.1

The bestMy favourite general map app hands down. Love having the key map already on hand and not necessary to be online unless you need to zoom into more detail..Version: 4.3

Best uk map app. Period.I’ve been a ViewRanger user for years but got annoyed by having to pay a yearly subscription for maps. UK Maps lets you buy the map & that’s it, open app on 10 years and your map is still there. Nice. App works beautifully, UI is intuitive and with every feature you need, track recording, many maps free and paid. Free maps are so good you often don’t need the paid ones. Developer very responsive and helpful..Version: 4.2

Just greatWell, great app. Really good job. I love this app.one of the best if not the best in this type.worth the price...Version: 2.1

The Best App!Probably one of the best apps I've ever downloaded! Great software, great concept!.Version: 2.1

Delete old app before updatingHad to delete original app and data to get this to work on iPhone XR on last week’s update. Maybe today’s release fixes that problem..Version: 3.6

And it is.I like it anyway. As an aussie who is relatively new to the the U.K. this app is a pearler. Thank you to the developer. Cheers....Version: 0

An excellent navigational tool!I’ve used many mapping apps over the years and have now defaulted to UK Map as a result of another excellent app being discontinued. UK Map doesn’t attempt to be a ‘social’ app - instead it concentrates on providing a host of class leading navigational features for serious off grid users. For many applications, the free vector mapping will more than suffice and contains surprisingly good detail right down to 1:10,000 scale. Ordnance Survey’s own world class mapping is available for purchase too and can be downloaded as needed to work in harmony with the free maps. The interface takes a little getting used to but stick with it and you’ll come to appreciate its strengths. The developer seems to have recognised exactly the need for a comprehensive and highly competent navigation tool and risen to the challenge superbly. There are many folk like me who work in the outdoor environment and have need of a no frills, bloat free, professional level mapping app. I think this is it….Version: 4.4

Superb!I’ve used this map app for so many years I can’t remember, it’s always been on my iOS device, I’m pretty sure I’ve had it for eight years. I recommend it to anyone I know who is a walker, cyclist, runner etc. I love downloading maps for offline usage around areas I know don’t have decent signal. I’ve hiked all over Scotland, Wales and England with it. I can’t praise it enough and felt it was due a review. I can’t imagine a time when I won’t have it installed..Version: 3.4

One of the very bestThis was one of the very first apps I ever bought, maybe six or seven years ago. I couldn’t get enough of it then and showed it to everyone as a demonstration of what my iPad could do. In the last couple of weeks I have started to use all the route import, navigation and locational features. There is a lot there and it takes a bit of learning, but it’s stunned me again. Would still be value if it was ten times the price. Thanks developers xxxxxx.Version: 3.3

Best £8 I have spent on an appAfter initial layout (£7.99) for this app, I was expecting to pay for each detailed OS map I might want in addition. As it turned out, there are free maps available and the 1:10,000 version is perfect if you are looking to find places to walk anywhere in UK. Bridleways, footpaths etc are all well detailed on the free maps. After living in my area for 20+ years we’ve found places to walk that we would never have otherwise found. Not sure what the paid maps offer in addition yet but I may download one just to check what else is included. Not sure what they actually cost as the prices don’t seem apparent. All in all - a fantastic for wannabe walkers & local explorers. Note: A trip to Scotland proved the path and bridle-way details are not complete or not detailed as I have experienced in England and Wales..Version: 4.2

Just brilliantHad this app for some time and in its early stages the interface was a bit hit and miss but now it’s been revamped and more user friendly and has become invaluable to our country walks. I love the fact u can download a detailed map for the area you’re visiting and even in the most remote area areas with out any phone signal it will track your position. Very clever..Version: 3.4

Thank you!!There aren't many apps for my iPad in the UK on the US store!! This will keep me busy until the end of may!!! Thank you!!.Version: 0

So much offline for England and ScotlandEven the gazetteer shows monuments, parks, forests, waterways, ferries and more. When you want a local map, download it online by pressing a tile or tiles. Bigger locations have many tiles and take longer to download. No required GPS ever..Version: 0

My go-to map app on my first pageUpdated Sept 2017: this app gets better. I’ve now got it on an iPhone 8 Plus. The experience is brilliant. Super smooth and sharp. This is a superb app on both iPhone and iPad. Utilising OS Open Data, it presents it to best effect. Draped over a terrain model it does a great 3D job. It's wonderful to zoom around. Practically it's great too. Was heading up the Lakes recently for a walk around Blencathra. The 3D rendering makes it simple to visualise and see what the landscape looks like. Great stuff!.Version: 3.1

Excellent - and runs on new iMacI'd been using UK Map for years on my iPhone and iPad, and wanted to see if it would work on my new ARM-kitted desktop machine. £6.99 said the App Store. Help! Still, I took a punt, started to purchase it, and at that point only was told by the App Store: "This update is free". Terrific. So I downloaded it. Next step: look at my purchased OS 1:25,000 maps. Only they weren't there. Fortunately the developer, Phil Endecott, has anticipated this; I clicked Restore Purchases, and all was well again. Very speedy response from Phil, and a robust app. Brilliant..Version: 4.3

Is there a better navigation app than this? No, this is the best. This is the only app that I’ve installed on every iPhone I’ve had. It is amazing. No nonsense, no subscription, just a perfect app for what I need. I’d pay for it if I could..Version: 4.1

New user reviewThis is great. Buy the app and get free access to 1:25k vector maps. Download the whole of the UK if you like or just the rectangular areas you need and save phone memory. Lovely interface as moving map fades from one to another as you zoom in/out. Addition purchase to download mapping tiles at 1:25k or 1:50k OS raster mapping (Landranger) This is now one of my favourite mapping apps on the iPhone. TopoGPS being my other one I am also evaluating before making my selection of which to invest in for more map purchases..Version: 4.6

PricelessThis app was exactly what my family needed during our last visit to England. We drove from London to York and never got lost once, thanks to this app and the rental cars gps (which occasionally malfunctioned). I don't visit the UK very often, but I am so glad I bought this app. I wish very much that there could be an offline US road map app even half as good as this app. Even just the East coast. Even just the North East. Please? You can spend hours lost in Boston or NYC when you can see the road you want to get to but can't figure out the right line of one way streets to go down to get to it. There is a market in the US for this type of map app. Please fill it. :).Version: 2.0.4

Great stuff!I'm a bit of a map and geography nut. This is THE BEST for anyone interested in the UK..Version: 2.0
