✓ Great appMate in two has 1200 problems from very basic to incomprehensible. It is one of the few apps that has migrated from my old iPad (along h Star Walk and Periodic Table of the Elements) and that I still use. As a very inexpert chess player I can't comment on the accuracy of the puzzles and their provenance. It looks like a lot of them come from old journals. At any rate they are entertaining and do a pretty good job of demonstrating pins, revealed check, sacrificing the queen, etc. Beats the heck out of sudoku. Highly recommended..Version: 3.1.1

✓ AwesomeI bought all of these packs and they're great. To the guy complaining that they aren't mate in 2, they are not all FORCED mate in 2 but the unforced mate in 2's are from actual games which challenges you to look for human error in your games. Compare how many times you have given forced and unforced mates in your own games and you will understand why predicting a human opponents play is more important than what a computer might play. Really recommend all of the packs, it's 5 bucks.Version: 2.6

I like to use them as mental exercises to train visualisation and planning. They are difficult but it feels great when I manage to solve one! ✓ EASILY worth $1. Could use one small tweakMore clever, fun puzzles than I could ever solve! Once you get past the handful of "easy" problems, you get into the really clever, brilliant, fun puzzles – ones that might well take you an hour to solve. I think there are something like 1000 puzzles…? I am pretty sure there are more than I could ever do, and they're good ones too! There is one small feature that this app sorely needs: the ability to just freely move the chess pieces yourself. Part of why it is so hard to figure out how white can mate black in 2 moves is that you can't try a white move, and then try black's various responses for yourself. You can try a white move, and then the app will make black's move – presumably black's best possible move – but that's not the same effect, since it can lead to you accidentally "solving" a puzzle when you just meant to try out a theory. If they could fix that – maybe by offering a Sandbox button, where you can then move the pieces freely – this app would probably be worth $5. But still, 1000 clever chess puzzles for $1 easily deserves a 5-star rating! Additional note: I don't know why someone said the app won't give you the answers, because it will if you click the Hint button..Version: 2.7

✓ Hidden gem3/12 still a nice solid tactic training full of challenge M2 puzzles. Pleasingly designed & runs smooth. Would be nice still to see maybe puzzle tracking by # of moves. I haven seen this feature elsewhere--maybe its too hard to program but sure would be useful in terms of visually tracking results. Was updated to run on iPad. Works great on tablet format! ORIGINAL REVIEW: This app I avoided at first due to lack of ratings n reviews. I took a chance since I'm trying to do more daily puzzles to improve my horrible game n lack of tactical vision n it's only 99c. What a nice surprise! I only bought M2 but I am now open to the devs other products. Nice UI n vast collection of M2 puzzles. Some are quite easy for even me but there's plenty to pull from. I like the date stamp for completion. DEV: In addition to date tracking can u consider a feature to keep track of how many attempts it takes to solve? And maybe a running record of attempts by date? ✓ Great valueThis is excellent, you get 1250 puzzles for just the small price asked. There are a couple of things that could be improved: Difficulty. There are 4-8 easy puzzles and the rest are hard. We need a more gradual increase in difficulty. There should be a mark (maybe ?) for a puzzle soled with the hint, and a mark (maybe ??) for a puzzle you looked at the solution for. Otherwise, excellent, worth the money, and if you are an intermediate this will help you get better..Version: 2.5

✓ "Fix" for puzzle addictionThis, plus it's cousin, "Mate In 3," is by far the perfect "Fix" for Any true Chess addiction. When I am doing work and just stuck on something, or waiting for someone, these puzzles are great, they are challenging, as well as numerous. ✓ Superb chess puzzles - hours of fun!This is a spectacular chess puzzle app. It is not only beautifully designed, but it has tons of puzzles. Some earlier reviewers thought they found an error in puzzle 17 (they thought it was a "mate in 3" rather than a mate in 2 possibility. However, this is not accurate, there is no error and the puzzle can be solved in 2 moves. Since those reviews were written, the developer added a button that gives hints or solves the puzzle entirely for you, so you can verify the accuracy of the puzzle. This is my TOP RATED game! Look forward to new versions (possibly with a unique "Play The Other Side" option, in which you can test the accuracy of the puzzle by letting the computer try to mate you in the required number of moves - you will not be able to escape!). ✓ Elegant solutionsI am very much an amateur, and I have not been able to solve any of the 20 problems I have worked on so far without using the hints. However, I very much enjoy studying the positions and trying to figure out how they work and why the opponents make the moves they do. It is very engaging, and I hope educational, to go back over them several times I don't know if the exercises will improve my playing, but I do know that they greatly increase my appreciation for the game and my respect for the masters. The graphics are excellent with nice options as to colors and styles, it is easy to retrace one's moves, the clock is unobtrusive, the hint button allows choosing the degree of help desired, and everything works smoothly and quickly (except for the occasional crash). I have solved all of the problems in Mate in One; they are merely entertaining and a nice ego boost, some rather clever given the parameter of leaving just a single move to consummate checkmate. If I end up getting Mate in Three, it will no doubt be to just sit back and enjoy the elegance of watching how the moves are made. Without doubt, these apps are worth much more than the measly buck they cost..Version: 3.0
