Moon Globe HD for Negative User Reviews

Good, but out of date and unsupportedDoes not have the latest Lunar Landers, for example the Chinese lander. Has not been updated in 4 years. App Support links to a dead URL. All of which is a real shame, as it’s a really nice app!.Version: 2.3

Language Improvements NeededA very informative app, with stunning rendering of the sunlit surface of our moon. I would have expected to see an option in the settings though for the choice of naming convention, ie: 'Smythe Ridge' instead of 'Dora Smthyii' You offer an explanation and translation only when you touch the text label, but without this the app appears French/Latin when in its normal view. This is inexcusable when it's named after the guy that discovered it and you spell his name wrong! I don't expect a translation to every language, particularly from a sole developer, but this is being sold in the UK and USA app store so at least include English! If you update it, I will re-review it with 5 stars. Finally don't let this review put you off buying this app, this is the best app for the lunar surface.👍.Version: 2.1.1

Good appEven better if the automatic location gave accurate position like other astro apps..Version: 2.2.4

The Moon does not have an atmosphereThis app is not very useful as a guide for observing the Moon simply because the terminator (the line between light and dark) fades vaguely across the Moon's surface rather than being a sharp line. Midnight Martian seems to have imported the terminator from their Mars Globe app -- Mars has an atmosphere and therefore twilight, but the Moon is airless and the terminator is perfectly sharp. You need to know where the Moon's terminator is at any given time to identify craters and other features seen through a telescope. The vague terminator is the biggest problem with this app, but it also lacks information important to the serious observer, such as lunar latitude and longitude, libration, and anything beyond the most basic information about specific lunar objects. A link to wikipedia is fine when you have an internet connection and time to read a wikipedia article, but I would expect a mobile app to have more information available from within the app, and to have it organized in a quickly useful format..Version: 2.2.4

Even in HD no ZoomI bought both and there is no difference no Zoom.Version: 2.3

Getting oldPlease please please please update the app. I love it but it’s getting on and at the very least needs updating for bigger screens. Topography, gravity and magnetic maps should also be added, features I’d happily pay for as in-app purchases..Version: 2.3

More magnification?I would love to be able to be able to magnify the images at a greater rate. If Google earth can show objects as small as cars, why can't we see the moon landing remnants, for example?.Version: 2.2.4

Does what it does, but not much more than the free versionI tried the free version and it's fine, and I thought at some point if/when I get around to buying a new telescope I might find a better version useful when looking at the moon, and 59p is hardly worth thinking about...and yes, it probably is a little more detailed, but to be honest, I can't really tell much improvement - not even 59p worth. So, it's OK, and I'm glad to support devs by paying for apps, but don't expect it to be a vast improvement on the free version in this case.Version: 2.1

Great app no iPhone X updatePlease update to work with IOS X.Version: 2.3

Window from lunar orbitI enjoy zooming in to as close as possible, positioning the horizon in the middle of the view, setting the moon rotating slowly, then just watching the surface glide by. My own relaxing view from orbit. Generally satisfactory. The lunar surface images are higher resolution than the iPhone version, though a bit higher seems desirable. Perhaps that had to be traded off with dealing with elevation data. My disappointment is with the aliasing/jaggies along the horizon. Some additional smoothing of the horizon is desirable and would have gotten a fourth star from me. Thanks for my own restful window from lunar orbit. Any chance of an Earth Globe HD?.Version: 0

It’s Ok but a few disappointmentsAs a long time amateur astronomer I think it’s just ok. An app in my pocket to identify features at the eyepiece. The terminator is poorly defined. When I select a date I want to know exactly what is in high relief on the terminator. I was also disappointed it didn’t have a little more resolution even in the HD version. It’s basic..Version: 2.3

Beautiful SimplicityBUT... would like to see an update to include Chang’e spacecraft locations..Version: 2.3

IPad version not really an improvementThe resolution on this app is unfortunately not much better than the iPhone app, if at all. I bought it hoping to be able to zoom in and see better detail than the iPhone version I'd already bought, but even at a buck it was a waste of money. If the developer would improve the resolution, this would be very worthwhile and would actually take advantage of the iPad's graphics capability..Version: 0

Arm chair use only, not very useful observing the moonThis app is almost great but has some serious flaws that interfere with its use outdoors to actually find and observe features on the moon in a telescope or binoculars. For some reason even though the iPhone version has a nice button for the telescope view, the iPad version requires that you navigate through a menu to switch to telescope view. If you are using Moon Globe while doing actual observing, telescope view is essential. Worse if you search for a lunar feature then Moon Globe switches out of telescope view and zooms in in “Above Globe” mode. This makes you loose orientation with no idea where the feature is on the view I’m seeing in the telescope unless I go back to the menu and manually select telescope view. That’s when the really bad news comes because Moon Glob no longer shows the feature you were looking for. At a minimum to be useful in actually observing the moon: If moon globe is in telescope mode when you search for and select a feature, it should show that feature without leaving telescope mode. Another improvement would allow an features to be selected for an observing list and all of the selected features would stay highlighted regardless of view. The database and graphics of this app are excellent, the usability to an actually observer is very poor..Version: 2.2.4
