✓ Fantastic implementationI had none of the technical problems mentioned by many. Yes, you die. Lots. That's why you have infinite lives! With practice you will get better at it! Remember, in the arcades there wasn't that helpful indicator of what to press at all. Finally, once you beat the game, look at the start game screen. There is a little movie icon that allows you to watch the game back like a movie. Minus one star because in the grand scheme, the gameplay isn't that great..Version: 0

✓ Pure nostalgiaI used to play this when it came out on floppy disc for the Amiga... many a frustrating hour was spent interminably changing discs and waiting for the various scenes of the game to load. The gameplay is just as bad now as it was then but the nostalgia of seeing it all again makes it more than worthwhile. I wouldn't bother if you're not old enough to remember it in the arcades though... it'll be lost on you!.Version: 0
✓ HD version almost completeJust like I remember it, and just as frustrating at times. Only this time, I get to keep my quarters! My only complaint is that the dropping disc level is incomplete. It only allows you three opportunities to jump off instead of the nine from the original arcade game. I always enjoyed jumping off at the ninth level just to make the people around me sweat a bit! Another feature that would be nice is, along with being able to watch the game without playing it (available only once you complete it), allow us to also view all of the death scenes! ✓ Brings back those great memories!I remember playing this game 30 years ago and was pleasantly surprised at this version. True, the control joystick is a little bit in the way. However, after playing a few times I just watched the screen and moved by watching the cues. So the joystick and sword button are really a a non-issue. ✓ Nailed it.I remember when Dragon's Lair showed up at the "Space Port" in the 80's. It was the most "realistic" game ever. The way this was accomplished is that you are not actually controlling the character's every move - you're watching a cartoon, and you have brief moments in which you can affect the story. If you go the right direction - sometimes within a split second window - you could continue the story. I remember putting $.50 into this baby... A dear amount for a 13 year old in the 80s... and getting only about a minute of gameplay. This game was HARD! I loved it though. It was often broken. So many times I showed up to play it and the screen was dark. I've really enjoyed getting to try it again. Don't believe the people who are complaining about this. If you complain about this marvelous port of the game, you do not understand it. The reviews made me hesitate for a year to buy it. Make sure you set the options right... turn off the "move guide" right away. Get engrossed in the story. If you aren't a child of the 80s, you might want to stay away. We were the Original Gamers.... and we know a great game when we see one..Version: 1.2.2

✓ Amazing!Great game, played it in the arcade. Years later, I forgot about it, then while I was browsing the App Store seeing if I could find some old games I loved, I found this. This game is awesome! Just as I remembered it! Don Bluth sure has done an amazing job with the graphics, and overall, the whole game. This game is a true classic, probably in the future great games like these will be gone sadly, and replaced by newer games. The past was great when people don't actually worked and put time into games. Also for those people always complaining about "no updates, and no bug fixes" this game is pretty old, I'm not expecting any "major updates" anytime soon..Version: 2.0

✓ Bigger Joystick Buttons pleaseFantastic port! It is *exactly* like the arcade! Thanks for this incredible game. The joystick buttons are hard to hit and easy to miss even when you know the right move. Lots of times my finger is right on it and it does not register my move. I think an easy fix would be bigger buttons. Having the sword close to the joystick would help a lot, too. Please could you increase the button size? I envision buttons twice as big. Or better. Maybe a circle divided into quarters with each quarter being a button (and the sword nearby). This would go a long way toward making an excellent port perfect. Thanks very much for this game! Once you figure out the controls (took one game to figure them out so I do not have to watch them), you can then play the video game without having to watch the controls as one reviewer wrote. ✓ Great game then... Great game nowI played the original Dragon's Lair WAY too much as a kid... and this port to the iPad is perfect. I'm not clear what configurations the reviewers with the "black screen of death" have, but I've had no issues or problems. Also, many viewers are complaining that there isn't a way to watch the action while you play... you're missing the point. This game is about *memorizing* the moves, not trying to play it one time, watching the action, watching the controls. It took me countless hours and quarters to memorize the moves in this game... why some people think they won't have to put in the same work is beyond me. In short: recommended!!!.Version: 0

Just remember that way back when it cost you twenty-five cents for three turns. It is challenging to watch the screen and use both hands to tap either your sword or your direction but so was the original arcade game. ✓ Plays fineI have played it through in both arcade and home versions with all kinds of deaths and no locking up whatsoever. It's played beautifully and has been a great return to 1983. The first game to cost two quarters (or tokens depending on your arcade of choice!). To Digital Leisure....PLEASE release Dragon's Lair 2 on the iPad! ✓ Too perfect a translation?I purchased the game purely for nostalgic reasons, and to finally (almost 30 years later) get to the end and save the princess without spending a fortune feeding money into an arcade machine. I remember seeing this in arcades when other games were relying on simple dot-matrix graphics. It looked fantastic back then and it still does however the ipad version is let down by having the same unforgiving control mechanism that dogged the original machine. Even with this version where you can choose for the 'expected' up/down/left/right/fire prompt to be displayed when you need to make a move, you get micro seconds to react to this prompt. These prompts were not displayed on the arcade machines which were even more frustrating to play so I guess there is at least half a chance of finishing this version. Because of the very short prompts, you often do not react quick enough or worse, you do but the program does not acknowledge your input....grrrrrrr! The game can be picked up from where you last got to so there is a form of save game that can be used to progress over a number of sessions. As long as you realise that this game is basically pressing a direction or fire button at the exact moment in order for the cartoon to proceed, then you will be fine. If you try and actually watch the animation too much or control the character out with the pre-determined route, then it's almost impossible and will probably bring on a bout of Tourette's Worth the money..Version: 1.2.2

✓ Let the good times play!This is one of the best versions of Dragon's Lair I've seen since the original arcade game! It has the random levels to go through, and flips occasionally just like in the original. The ONLY nitpick I have about this is that the falling disc level doesn't have 9 places to jump from, but just 3. It's a small shortcoming though, and if you don't care about that, it's flawless! If you want to wrap your hands around a true classic, then pick this up now............unless you'd rather the dragon keep your princess, that is..Version: 1.2.2

Awesome to watch, and that is where the please comes from, please,please,please allow a replay of the game just played . Thanks...Great Old Classic, now on iPad!Just played completely through the game in home mode and partially in arcade mode on my iPad with iOS 4.2.1...went fine, no glitches...have not encountered the opening screen flashing up between scenes that others have reported...the only thing I'd say is that in home mode the gameplay is a tad bit too easy. ✓ Excellent gameThis game is 100% awesome and many of the reviews below will lead you to believe otherwise. That's because they all used the cheat mode, the real trick is, play without it then you'll enjoy the real arcade experience. All these 'the game is too easy and I rescued the princess in 20 minutes' are by ppl who began by enabling the cheat. Trust me, this game is hard and very rewarding after you finally figure out how to survive a scene. There was no 'cheat mode' in the arcade and if I remember correctly this was the first game to cost 50cents a play rather than a quarter. Ppl that actually could beat it were wonderful to have around because then you actually got to watch the entire show! Word to the wise...do not enable cheat mode and you'll have a great time at this. It's well worth the 4.99 that back in the day would equal 10 game plays. Big thumbs up from me!.Version: 1.2.2

✓ Awesome!Most that are complaining that this game's required moves are too fast have forgotten (or are too young to know) that the original arcade game was also 'too fast' and required that you pretty much had to memorize 90% of the moves by trial and error in order to beat it. Play this in home mode to learn the moves...then see if you can beat it in arcade mode! It's a perfect version of Dragon's Lair, and I've had a blast playing it! Stop complaining...this version costs you a lot less at $5 than the stand up did at 50 cents a pop to get all the moves down....Version: 0
✓ Great nostalgia (only)Bought it for nostalgia and had a great time going through it again. But it definitely does not stand on its own as an iPad game, i.e. don't get it if you didn't love the arcade original. As for all the complaints about the controls, it's a simple joystick overlay on the screen. There's nothing broken about it, it's just that the game demands such exact timing you find yourself staring at the joystick to get through each level in the default cheating mode (where the correct move lights up), and you don't get to enjoy the gorgeous visuals as much. I think they could have fixed it by making the timing more lax... if you had more than 0.1 seconds to make the right move you wouldn't need to stare at it waiting for the next cue. Winning in non-cheating mode seems like it would be insanely difficult. Did the arcade version really demand such tight timing? I can't remember..Version: 1.2.2
