PayByPhone Parking for Negative User Reviews

Should make life easy…But it doesn’t really. Until you’ve set everything up it’s poor. The photo feature for capturing card details. I have a brand new white Monzo card with bold black letters. 5 attempts to capture the card number and it failed 5 times - each time leaving 1 digit. Selecting hours instead of minutes - the drop-down took another 8 taps to open. Unresponsive. Also, why is minutes the default? Who parks in minutes? Surely compared to an hour or two, minutes is an edge case? Why not have the ability to say what time you want to park to? Instead of me standing there like a muppet counting on my fingers how many hours I need? And this may be there but I couldn’t see it - the hourly rate? Or something to tell you when it becomes free? Or shuts? When it came to confirming my payment type, it wouldn’t let me select Apple Pay. No reason given. Just couldn’t select it. So I entered the EXACT SAME CARD that is on my Apple Pay? Stupid. Also. Even on an iPhone 14 Pro, several parts are just difficult to read - small typefaces in light variants. Important stuff - like car registration numbers. About the only thing that didn’t annoy me was it’s ability to know where I was using location services and suggest the correct car park. Do better!.Version: 8.2.0

Slow, cumbersome and not business person friendlyI wish the car parking firms who decide to use these apps would do their own due diligence prior to forcing these apps upon us. If they did, they would see that this one in particular is slow to use and incapable of providing a proper receipt AT THE POINT OF TRANSACTION. Sending an SMS is NOT any type of recognised financial receipt, thereby forcing the user into accessing yet another web portal (why could it not be through the app??!!) just to be able to download the receipts we need for expenses reports. As a minimum there should be an automatic email option (as there is in other similar apps) which would require MINIMAL programming at the back end to achieve. Apps are supposed to make things simpler, yet in practice, apps like this one stumble at the most basic level to fulfil their purpose..Version: 4.6.3

Very useful but can be frustratingly unreliableI use the app every day running on the iPhone - it is a useful service that generally saves time over feeding meters, allows remote charge top-ups and can give expired warnings. When working smoothly it is easy enough to use. However, I have experienced frequent glitches, hangs and failures, sometimes claiming a loss of connection when there is a strong service, sometimes not loading nearby locations and lots of spinning-wheel start-up failures when opening the app, leading to multiple restart attempts or a phone restart. Hopefully the app will be further developed but in the mean-time, keep some coins in the car just in case..Version: 8.6.2

Glitchy flickering obnoxious ads.Nothing like being forced to watch flickering glitchy offers after you pay for parking..Version: 9.4.0

Used to be greatBut now every time I try to use it I have to re-enter my credit card info. The whole idea is to avoid that. Makes parking a royal hassle. Please make it like it was before?.Version: 9.4.0

Seriously??? Ads??So you monopolize parking in my city, charge me %20 up charge on parking you greedy bozos. Now you think it’s acceptable to show me ads?? I’m paying for the service already you stupid greedy a*****e’s.Version: 8.7.0

Utter disappointment!Used in the past, even thou a bit expensive than paying at machine still happy as it was convenient. Today I had an appointment to my opticians and I was 10 minutes early when I started paying by this app. Everything was fine, recognises the location as well as my vehicle with a registered debit card. Right towards the end message popped up “payment failed”, I’ve been using the same card in the past. After failed attempts a few time, I registered another card which was credit card this and was successfully registered. For some mysterious reason the outcome was exactly the same “payment failed”. This whole process took about 20 minutes and I was 10 minutes late for my appointment. In the meanwhile I tried to pay at machine, thanks to Newham borough that machine was not working. Left my car with a note mentioning everything and went to see the doctor. Disappointed!.Version: 5.2.0

Well it works, but barelyWell, the app does work to pay for parking in my local area, but it’s barely functional. It comes across like an app that was built by a school student for an assignment, in about 2 hours. Though it’s been out for ages, I’m still waiting for someone to finish it. Apart from the clunky design, the reminders and notifications of impending parking expiry never seem to work. The one time they did, they arrived exactly 12 hours late! By all means use this to pay for parking if you can be bothered, but definitely don’t rely on it to remind you when your parking is expiring - you’ll just end up with a parking ticket. Set a separate timer instead..Version: 1.3.1

UpdateI’m not updating my iphone to use this app, I’ll update this phone on my terms, my iPhone is an older model as I don’t wish to conform to Apple controlling me to buy their latest phones, or update when they issue “continuous” latest updates, that eventually slow down my phone then render it useless because data has reached its maximum capacity, so I’ll be removing this app that I used quite frequently, I now have the app “Appyparking” which does the same thing, and doesn’t need me to update my phone, hope you lose a lot of customers, there was nothing wrong in the way it worked before, almost as though your in financially with mobile companies, so we all upgrade to newer phone, some of us can’t afford, or simply don’t want to keep updating our phones..Version: 5.8.0

Good but needs more payment optionsApp is great and easy to use but I don’t like having to pay by the hour. Should have an option to add 30 minutes or even an option to just press ‘start parking’ and ‘end parking’ and just pay for that amount of time..Version: 4.6.0

HorribleSpent over 10 minutes trying to pay for parking while my party was being seated at our restaurant reservation. After finally getting through the slow vehicle and credit card addition page (no Apple Pay, seriously?!), it says my quote expired and I have to go back and start over. So I do that and create an account and finally complete the process. Then I needed to add some time, so I reopen the app and ALL of my data is missing! So I re-add my vehicle and attempt to add my card again, and it just hangs with a spinner. I kill the app, try again, and the same thing happens. I ended up just having to hope that I didn’t get a ticket for overstaying my time..Version: 8.7.0

Pointless app unless you have location number 😂So I paid the first time manually through the parking meter. Later when I tried to pay through the app since I’m away from my car, the app asks me for my gps access which I grant since I assume I could still try to use my current location to find my car since I’m still kind of within the area. The problem? It doesn’t use gps for you to try to find where you park and it doesn’t let you enter the location where you parked, it asks you specifically for the “location number”😂 what was the point of asking me for access of my gps if you still need the location number. And if you forgot to take a picture of the “location number” or if you have to park longer then the time you thought you would need, then you wouldn’t be able to search up the street you parked at since you need a “location number” to pay for parking 😂 this isn’t convenient to use 😂.Version: 8.4.0

Dangerous app with major privacy issueThis app collects and sells data about you and your location to third party data monetisation firms..Version: 3.8.0

It is full of obtrusive adds gets really annoying.Used to be good for paying for parking it is now an ads machine. So sad..Version: 8.7.0

Difficult for new users.I was set to park in Enfield. A new destination. The sign did not show that the Pay by Phone app is in use. It said pay by phone or text. I tried texting and got no response. I tried paying by phone and was asked for a PIN. Only then did I guess that the Pay by Phone app could be in use so I checked on the app which I had downloaded previously but only used a couple of years ago. The whole format is totally in user friendly and impossible for a new user to grasp. It’s ridiculous that Enfield do not make it clear which app is in use. No new would grasp from the phone message that it was Pay by Phone in use and they needed to down load the app. Simply not good enough. Not user friendly and extortionate rate paying an extra 23p on top of a very heavy parking charge for using the app..Version: 9.4.0

Fee liesSays no additional fees, then charges additional fees.Version: 8.2.0

Doesn’t work wellFor the supposed convenience, this app is a step down from the old pay machines in our lots. The camera functionality to add a credit card is unusable. It takes the photo way too fast to center the card in the box and requires multiple clicks to retake a photo. The app doesn’t let you park before enforcement hours start, you have to either set a reminder to pay right at the beginning of enforcement hours or pay for time you don’t need to. I’m also not a fan of the business model of passing the convenience fee on to customers, but that seems to be an industry wide thing..Version: 7.1.1

This app should be illegal (PLEASE READ BEFORE USING)So instead of buying a ticket from the ticket machine (cause let’s face it who actually carries cash now a days) the Isle of Wight car parks offer you the choice of booking through their app. The display shows you multiple ticket options ranging from 1 hour to 1 day and more. However the app will only allow you to buy a ticket for the whole day!! The app is automated and it’s quite simple To program to allow you to choose different options such as 1 hour or two hours. However the Isle of Wight council have made a choice to deliberately force you to pay for one day instead of the time you need. It is modern day robbery and whoever made the decision to allow this to happen should be ashamed of them selves. It gives a bad impression to the Isle of Wight and a terrible impression to our council!!.Version: 5.0.1

Bad App and Worse Customer ServiceOn two occasions, although I had paid for parking using the app, I received a parking ticket. When I contacted them for a refund, they refused to refund the money and instead requested that I resolve the ticket with the parking court. So, instead of refunding the money as a show of good customer service, they preferred that I file a notice of appearance with the court, spend at least three hours of time at court waiting the have the matter addressed, and ultimately risk having court fees assessed. This app has a wonderful racket going on. You give them your money to park, they won’t guarantee it gets paid, and if you get a ticket, they won’t refund the parking payment. Instead, you’re left to waste time at the court. Come to think of it, there might be a good class action lawsuit here..Version: 3.3.3

Screwed Up My PhoneThe parking meter at the local hospital wasn’t working so I was forced to download this app to avoid being ticketed. The gentleman behind me in line did warn me he had issues with this app but I didn’t have any choice. It was either use the app or get ticketed. The minute I loaded the app and paid for my parking, my phone started acting up. It was freezing up, my camera stopped working, my phone kept shutting down. I deleted the app as soon as I was done with it but the issues continue. There is no question it was this app. I don’t know what it’s done but my phone is messed up..Version: 9.2.0

Location sensor terribleIf I didn’t have to use this company, I so wouldn’t but when it is the only option to pay for parking you don’t have a choice….. it locates your position and tells you the number you are at but this has the potential to be wildly inaccurate and could mean you are paying to park somewhere else (close but not where you think you are) and this results in you being fined. This has just happened to me, I paid for 2 hours parking and stayed for 1h 36mins. But now I have a £100 fine. Furthermore, it is impossible to speak to anyone if you want assistance in proving you were not evading payment. Just an equally as disappointing virtual assistant. The problem is, if there wasn’t a location sensor, you would have no option but to search for the correct place and I would have rather this have been the case……. Always check yourself as the time saving technology is a costly let down..Version: 8.8.0

UnreliableI have had confirmation come up on screen and still get a “parking ticket” and only on opening my email when I get home do I find that payment was not in fact processed..Version: 3.5.0

Can’t pay by minutesWould be good if we can pay by minutes or even half hourly..Version: 3.5.0

PayByPhoneNo longer shadows the last spot first so hard to extend sometimes Don’t want your ads on my phone. Who gave you the ok to use my phone screen and power ? Plus it clutters the view of what I need to do. So stop it!.Version: 9.4.0

Very slowThe apps took ages to open with a risk of being fined.Version: 9.4.0

Lacks basic functionalityDoesn’t support native password managers to make login easier; doesn’t support auto-filling and pasting content like phone numbers and passwords into input fields; has pointless character limits on vehicle description fields; purports to support ApplePay but, for me, it didn’t work at all; and (last but not least in this app’s deficiencies) doesn’t allow auto-filling of credit card information, which means I had to stand on the sidewalk awkwardly keying in every detail of my credit card just to pay $1 for 30 min for parking. Cities should be ashamed of abdicating parking payment to an app that can’t do the most basic things in each of its key workflows..Version: 8.9.1

Increased charges and reduced availabilitySeveral months ago the charge from Payby Phone for my daily parking in downtown Vancouver jumped by over 200% to a ridiculous amount. Over the intervening time I have noticed many private parking lots are dropping it—possibly due to the fee increase. Until these developments I would have highly rates PaybyPhone..Version: 9.4.0

Not good!Having been forced to use PayByPhone in Ealing, London, I find it is a much inferior app to the previous RingGo, which wasn’t perfect either. This app is very unintuitive, and not easy enough to navigate, when you want to extend a ‘session’, it wants to extend for a day and not just the hour that you might want. So had to wait for the session to expire before being able to pay for a new session for an hour. When attempting to quickly pay for a visitor permit, the vehicles already added under ‘vehicle management’ aren’t available to you as a drop down to select from, rendering the ability to add vehicles to the app completely useless, and requiring you to remember the registration number of the car. The app just needs completely rethinking, the home screen barely displays any useful information, and to do anything with the app you have to tap on what looks like a settings icon. How about a decent, well thought out menu on the home screen to navigate from? We have no choice in which parking app we have to use here, and app developers have a duty to make them intuitive and easy to operate, which hasn’t been the case with PayByPhone..Version: 5.5.2

Constantly declines cardThe last year whenever I try to use the app it says my card is declined (I’ve tried multiple different ones). I even just got 2 new credit cards and still doesn’t work. No reason for it!.Version: 9.4.0

Poor appGiven that the sole purpose of this app is to facilitate payment it fails miserably. I downloaded the app and logged in using my Apple account. Despite giving permission for it to access my location it evidently couldn’t find the car park I was at, I was 1 metre away from the pay station. I put in the location number & entered my car details. I was then asked to enter a payment method - oh wait, it’ll only accept credit cards, duh I don’t carry my credit card because I HAVE A SMART PHONE. I dial the telephone number to pay by that method and after having to listen at least twice that “if I have a smartphone I should download their wonderful app” - I’m then told that to register & pay will take at least 5 mins. No means to pay by credit card directly at pay station, no way to pay via ApplePay or text. Utter rubbish..Version: 5.7.1

Shocking support for Australian usersI have tried to update my debit card details … by phone, online, I tried deleting the app and reloading… to no avail…. No decent support either. Will go to cash to pay for parking.Version: 7.9.1

Functional, but with nigglesThis app works, in that it takes your money, but it feels like it has been crippled by some poor choices: - it insists on setting the default duration to minutes which is frustrating if you want to pay for 480 of them while at work. - you can’t pay for two days if you are staying overnight, so you have to set a manual alarm because… - the only reminders it issues are a chargeable extra and by sms. That’s right - you have to pay more *and* you need a signal to get a reminder. Very retro! Such a shame, but since the business model is focused on the car park owner as the “customer” we are obviously just the cash cows to be milked..Version: 9.1.0

Be sure to read the fine printI was a big fan of this app - until I started getting charged for parking options I never chose. I park in the same parking zone often but for a short period of time. I would choose 30 minute parking and it would give me 1hr30 parking and charge me for the extra time. The app continues to show me the 30 min option, but every time I choose that, charge me for 1hr30. I finally saw that there is tiny writing at the bottom of the option page saying that I would be charged a certain tarif for 30 min the first time, but a different tarif thereafter for 30 min. The large print options never change though. I find this quite misleading. This is unfortunate for an otherwise very useful app..Version: 6.0.0

Convenient until there is a problemI have used the app infrequently for a number of years, and the payment of parking via an app for a small additional fee is very convenient. Definitely saves carrying lots of coins. However, I recently used the app, and was forced to reset my password before paying - which I did. After making the payment (via a credit card as Apple Pay wasn’t working), I noticed the booking had somehow been made against my old registration. The app would NOT let me correct this at all (due to there being an active booking), so I was forced to create a new booking with the correct reg. Paying twice. I contacted “support”, which was basically a very bad chatbot that kept asking the same questions. Eventually it offered to refer me to a human, which was just another form. After completing the form (which was restricted to a couple of pieces of limited information), I received an email a couple of days later basically saying “tough luck” - as refunds are out of their hands. When the app works it is convenient, but I won’t be using again..Version: 7.11.0

Barely worksThe map function is broken. The purple location markers don’t show up properly or with any stability (zoom in or out and the purple icons disappear or flash on and off haphazardly). When you tap on the purple icons, the map just zooms in and the icon vanishes. I was only able to pay with the location ID from the machine in the car park. Came home and tried again and tapping on various purple markers does nothing. How are you supposed to find out info about pricing, hours, etc before going to a car park with this app?! Some serious glitches in this app at the moment! Response to developer feedback: is is extremely rude to blatantly contradict someone. And even more stupid. No, I can’t select any purple marker. That’s the whole point of my review! Instead of writing such patronising, defensive nonsense, listen to the valuable information you are being given, say sorry and thank you and then act on it..Version: 6.8.2

Send alerts from pay parking appA good app. Would be even better if the app can send an alert when the parking limit is up. That way user can extend the park seamlessly without risking a fine because the parking has expired..Version: 4.4.0

Relied on notifications but suddenly stopped workingFor the past 2+ years of using this app, I relied on notifications on to notify me when parking is nearing expiration so that I can extend my parking. My most recent parking sessions I did not receive a notification and I received a ticket. After contacting customer service, they mention that notifications are not guaranteed. I don’t believe this is surfaced to the user high enough, and now being left to pay the ticket has left a sour taste in my mouth..Version: 8.2.2

Charging moreA rip off.Version: 9.2.0

Fix your lame appWas this app designed by a blind monkey?.Version: 9.4.0

Not impressed m!My card had me expired, I cannot believe that the app actually made me input all my data all over again instead of just updating the expiry date, not impressed as I was already stressed out and half an hour late for a dinner engagement! 👎👎👎.Version: 9.4.0

Error MessagesAberdeen City have this on their pay and display machines, and often the machines are out of order. That forces drivers to use this service. I’ve had to use it several times the past two weeks. It NEVER works the first time. It takes several attempts, each with an error message. I even tried the website, error messages, and the phone number on the machine (also failed to work). Recently I used the app to park and collect a repaired pair of shoes. It took six attempts to get it to work. The minimum parking period was 30 minutes. When the app finally worked, it only gave me 27. Rip off!!! Another time, it took me three times longer to pay for the parking than it did to complete my errand..Version: 8.9.1

Rip offWon’t let you pay for less than an hour. It’s a rip-off.Version: 4.7.1

College Student HereYou know, the convenience of the app is great. It’s super easy to set up and input all of your information. Once you get your parking location it’s just a few clicks but the one big issue I have is that it’s hourly. I go to college and the campus took out the money meters for this app and there are multiple times where I just need 20 minutes or less for parking. It would be amazing if they figured out a way to charge per 20 minutes instead of charging me $1 at least every time I use the app. It’s only $1, I know but I’m a broke college student like many others and would like to not spend $1 most days per year just to park for 15-20 minutes. Great app though!.Version: 4.8.1

Not intelligentStupid app doesn’t allow you to pay for parking in advance of when parking time for the car park commences. Resulting in needing to go back to app after you park the car at the time parking start to pay for parking. Miss it by a few minutes and you end up with a fine. This looks like a deliberate strategy so that they can rack up parking fines as they always seems to get you at 1min after the time starts..Version: 3.6.0

App works, rate info totally wrongI’m standing in front of multiple signs installed by the parking company that’s using this service. Assuming they’re the same company, they need to learn how to sync up with the parking rates here. In Kirkland, WA there are signs everywhere that say 0-2 hours free to park, then $3 an hour after that. Well, if you go to register your vehicle, they want $3.50+ per hour immediately. So I didn’t bother paying because I’m not being unfairly charged if nobody else is paying for up to 2 hours parking. Someone should really sync this up and get this right. Take photos of your vehicle and time you parked just to have some proof in case someone wants to try towing..Version: 8.1.0

ClunkyHad to update my review because the latest updates keep going further and further in the wrong direction. I park in the same place with the same car and use the same credit card every work day; this app has always made that a chore and it has only gotten worse with the updates. Two big problems, one; even though they have a captive audience (most locations force you to use this app and only this app if you want to park), the makers continue to try to force you into using location services -presumably to sell your location data. This is clearly bogging down their servers at peak times. Problem two; the designers of this app have no clue about frictionless design and require the same inputs day after day instead of being smart enough to consolidate those inputs into one “repeat previous” button..Version: 4.6.0

Application payment advice didn’t match meterI entered meter location into app on a Saturday. Application said there was a 2-hour time limit, whereas sign said 4 hour limit on Saturdays. I paid for 30 minutes through app. Disappointed to find that physical meter station provided notice that there was 2 hour free parking on Saturdays. Therefore wasted my money and time because info in app did not match requirements on meter station. Next time I will not trust that the information provided in app is correct compared to signage and information on meter station. Poor data integrity!.Version: 8.1.0

Latest release major feature regressionIn this latest release, you cannot extend an active parking session. This is a huge loss of functionality. Until this is restored, the app gets 1 star. You pay a premium for paying via the app vs paying directly at the meter. Part of the justification for this, on the user end, is the convenience of being able to extend a parking session without returning to the meter. With this patch, the user has to watch their parking session like a hawk, and start a new session when the first is over. But you can’t even just choose repeat parking. You have to enter the location number all over again for select it from the map. Really poor update. Restore extend parking, and it gets 5 stars. Right now, this version is pretty bad..Version: 7.3.0

Why an extra 20p?Once I had found my way around this App it is quite easy to use, except that I still have not found out how to select a registration number from “vehicle management” when setting up a visitor parking session. Helpfully it does enable one to select the last vehicle parked. But there is no explanation of the extra 20p surcharge which has recently been added to the fee. Update March 2024 When it actually works, this App has become more annoying than it was before. It seems to be impossible to arrange visitor parking for the next available slot. You think that you have booked this, but closer inspection shows that you have been charged £0.00 and your session expires AT THE START of the next controlled period. Unwary users of the App may think that they have booked and paid for parking, but may end up with a penalty charge. It seems to be necessary to book a ‘scheduled’ start to overcome this fault in the system. This glitch also means that you are not given the “last vehicle parked” option and have to remember, or look up, the vehicle reg before you begin. Summary: a very irritating and unreliable App, but I have no other option for visitor parking in my road..Version: 9.4.0

Card declinedSays card declined multiple times and then randomly works. Fix this..Version: 9.4.0

Cannot cancel a parking timeIt would be great if we could cancel the parking time and only pay for the time used ——LIKE IN VICTORIA BC———.Version: 8.1.0

Service ChargesGreat app but unfortunately you’ll be paying more parking this way since a service charge applies..Version: 6.6.0

This app ensures motorists get fines(1) Unlike PayStay there's no reminder when your time's about to run out. (2) Unlike PayStay you can't just set a limit (say 2hrs) and then ONLY pay for the time you've actually used if you come back to your car earlier. The only reason a council would use this service over the ones which WORK is (like Yarra City Council) that they want to earn money they're not entitled to (see point 2) or want to catch motorists out so they can issue lucrative fines (see point 1).Version: 1.3.3

“Screw You” with the Ads and SMS cash grab chargesWhat happened to this app? It’s cheesy and annoying.Version: 9.1.0

One flaw in an otherwise serviceable appI think it’s a good app apart from the fact that when asked to input your card security number it is in very large type on the screen. Most places where you are asked to use the cvv number anonymise it on-screen with asterisks whereas PayByPhone sort of advertise it. Based on the fact that you tend to use this app out in public on the street, I would prefer that this was at the very least much less easily read over my shoulder and preferably anonymised on screen with asterisks like most other places I am asked for this information. Currently you can see the cvv no from space!!.Version: 7.3.0

Resent feeWhy pay a fee for something that the city makes money on (no coin p/u, people overpaying).Version: 9.4.0

SCAMWorst app ever. It will not let me add time. It will not allow 4 week payment. It’s still trying to charge full price for students. This company and app is a SCAM!!! This app doesn’t want any reviews!!!!.Version: 9.4.0

No advantage to using this applicationDoes not give you the option to pay for real time parked, you still have to pay in decimal increments like one or two hours. So if you pay for two hours and need to leave after half an hour you don’t get a refund. This could easily be fixed with a simple algorithm where you log in once arrived and log out and get billed when you need to leave. Real time parked would make sense if paying digitally..Version: 4.0.4

Bizarrely difficult to useFine to pay for random street parking but the residents permit bit is awful. Trying to book visitors parking sits somewhere between challenging and fraudulent. You can only book in whole hours, you can only specify the number of hours or days you want (so therefore have to figure out how many controlled hours exist within the time time period the visitor is staying), then once you’ve added that up you have to split it into daily portions to avoid being overcharged, e.g. I want to book from late afternoon of one day and all of the following day adding up to 11 hours in total within the controlled hours. Selecting the 11 hours I want asks me for £9. Selecting 8 hours asks me for £4.50. Upping that to 9 hours doubles the price to £9 even though it’s just 1 more hour. So I have to book 2 sessions. One for 8 hours at £4.50 and the other for 3 hours at £2.40 giving me the 11 hours but now for £6.90 when doing the same thing in one go would have cost me £9. How on earth does that make sense!.Version: 4.9.0

Didn’t do what it says on the tinApp description says it has native notifications and/or SMS notifications. SMS notifications have not been arriving to my phone since last summer, despite having sent through a proper confirmation of my phone number recently, and there is no option to turn on native notifications. either in the app or in iPhone notification settings. I have received tickets as a result of these advertised features not functioning. parking authority blames the app company and will not discuss remedies whatsoever. Developer has not responded to my inquiries. One star.Version: 8.2.2

Terrible appNever loads, won’t save card details, Apple Pay not working, poor design, slow. Several times now I’ve sincerely regretted not just using my card at the machine. Update. Wrote the above while angry, waiting for the app to load and spending 15 mins for the second time (the only two times of using the app) trying to get a card added. The app won’t auto-fill card details, nor save them, nor prompt registering so it would save them for next time. For some reason it wouldn’t allow Apple Pay. Despite the fact that I’d spent time the first time inputting my card etc., I felt the 15mins might be well spent so it was easier next time but to face the same problem again I’d choose to pay at machine instead of using this app going forwards..Version: 9.4.0

MeSometimes I need to leave earlier, can you make this option (like other companies) so people can stop parking whenever they want?.Version: 4.2.1

DisappointingLove the app. Very convenient BUT hate the .35cent surcharge. Not sure why but they should be ashamed charging people to use their app..Version: 8.1.0

Works poorly with congested bandwidthThe commuter rail station I park at is in a small town an hour outside Boston. Cell service is fine except for when it hits high saturation levels as is the case in the 10-15 minutes prior to an inbound train arriving. That’s when this app doesn’t work at all. It seems like it always has to talk to a server for every step of the transaction: pick location, pick vehicle, retrieve parking rates, make financial transaction. However, my banking apps, train ticket app, other apps still work in the same situation, although slower, but still work! I have to wait to do my parking transaction until the next train stop which is at a bigger city center and had more cell service capacity. Seems like work needs to be done on the app to make it more efficient on the backend. If I mark a location as a favourite (spelling intentional) then why isn’t the favorites tab presented to me first? And when I pick a favorite location why does the app have to go verify the location exists? Maybe you need to work on your analytics and caching..Version: 4.6.1

WorthlessAfter entering all the necessary information - car registration, two credit cards (the location apparently didn't accept amex, which the app might have mentioned before letting me enter one), and email, the app kept telling me my "quote had timed out." I retried a few times, ensuring the time from quote to being told it was timed out was < 20 sec. Incidentally it worked fine on the website, I spent a fraction of the time there. Lesson: pass on the app, just use the web directly. Update: questionable privacy claims. It says location id both linked to you and not – wouldn't those be mutually exclusive – and it says that financial information is not linked to you, in which case it shouldn't need any information at all (if the app interacts with the parking sites payment system directly). It uses a *lot* of third party APIs (including Google Analytics) – as in, a boat load..Version: 7.6.0

They are stealing moneyBe aware! The app will show you an accurate parking zones around you, you with your best intentions will pay for the parking and when you’ll be back you can find an “unpaid parking” receipt on your windshield with fines. That’s what happened to me. I have contacted the support at the receipt and got a response that they don’t work with Pay By Phone app. So I contacted the support of the app to hear “it’s not our fault if you confused similar looking parking apps”. Ok, BUT they never answered my question, even if I made a mistake of opening similar looking app why Pay By Phone give to its users like me the opportunity to book the parking and collects the payment for the parking in a correct zone even if they don’t work with that lot? Doesn’t that mean they stole those money I paid for my parking from me?.Version: 8.3.0

Update doesn’t workSince updating the app I cannot login and the password reset doesn’t work. Prior to this update it was a really good app..Version: 3.2.0

Forces you to commitSome boroughs offer this instead of RingGo. Unlike RingGo, PayByPhone forces you to commit to a specific expected parking duration, which means you might underestimate the time you require and have to rely on the app to alert you when the session is about to expire. If you miss the alert, you risk getting a ticket. RingGo instead charges you for the maximum duration of a parking session up front and you must remember to end the session when you return so that it only deducts a payment for the duration of your session. If you forget, it will deduct the entire rest of the day but you will not get a parking fine. So both apps carry some risk. The only advantage with PayByPhone is the ability to download a statement for expense claims..Version: 9.4.0

Never managed to get it to workNot intuitive and didn’t show most of the parking stations I was looking for, even though they had signs to use Ringo. Save yourself time and frustration by having change on hand (usually no notes)..Version: 8.7.0

Simplifies my journey??Rubbish. Tried to pay by card at machine but it wasn’t taking cards. So I had to sit there and wait for the app to download, install it and then register. Once I’d done that I tried to pay for a ticket. The first price I was quoted was 20p an hour more than if I’d paid at the machine. I chose it, then the app sent me to a page from my bank to confirm the payment, but also gave me a warning that I’d closed the app when I went to get the number from the text message. Back to the app and sat watching a blank screen, then a please wait type screen which I gave up on after ten minutes. Tried again to be told my quote had expired so went through the whole process again, but now the price was only 10p an hour more than paying at the machine. It worked this time. Got home to find my email receipt with a link to your online survey. I clicked that to tell you this sorry story but got a 404 error. I’d hate to think what it would be like if you decided to make parking harder. It’s hard enough when the spaces on the car park are so narrow you need to be a supermodel to squeeze out of your car door….Version: 8.5.1

Mostly works but sometimes doesn’tI like the service when it works, had a couple times when it wasn’t connecting to server and it was an absolute pain, I carry coins now due to the unreliability.Version: 9.4.0

Pay by app? What a ridiculous way to run a parking lot. This is a disgraceful joke of a system..Version: 3.3.3

Update Deregistered MeI use this app on a fairly regular basis. Went to use today on a hospital visit but it had logged me out. It wouldn’t send me a new PIN via text so I reregistered. I thought it would tell me I was already registered but, no, it did reregister my same phone. Then I saw there was an update to the app the very same day. All this took time I didn’t have and ended up paying at a machine in the car park. It also means I’ve lost all my parking history and the numbers of car parks I’d previously visited so I’ll have to get all those again next time I visit. So annoying. In addition, the app seems to lose a feature or two every time it’s updated. I used to know how long I had left to park but now it doesn’t tell me. What’s the use in that?? Please sort it all out..Version: 3.3.1

Fraction of an hour.Let us pay at least in half an hour increments. Charging me 3 hours when there’s only 2:15 left (until the parking restrictions are up) is ridiculous..Version: 3.3.3

Hot garbageOnly use it because I have to. Laggy, unresponsive piece of trash app made by dimwits The developer responded to me about recent changes to the app. They have all made it worse. The app is less responsive and less precise than 2 years ago and now also features adds. Would give a 0 star review if I could.Version: 9.3.0

CrapDoesn’t accept cards half the time spent 30 minutes trying to pay at the ferry.Version: 9.2.0

The WORST app for parkingI parked my car near the meter and I register by the app with the camera and showed me a wrong meter and I got a $45 ticket even if I was paid for parking. Deposit the coins, it’s safer and you will not get a ticket..Version: 9.4.0

MeterYour app is useless and slow.Version: 8.2.2

FlawedOn the whole the app is good however there is one big problem for people that pay for parking in the same location on consecutive days and travel at different times. Maximum amount of hours that can be paid for is 8. Over that you must pay for 24hrs. The terms of the car park don’t allow you to extend for another 24hrs. Day 1 - arrive at car park 07:30 (I’ll be home 17:30) have to pay for 24 hrs (only need 10). Day 2 - arrive at car park 06:45. I cannot buy another day ticket for 45minutes as yesterday’s ticket (which I needed until 17:30) is valid. It then becomes a bit of a faff. Set timer for 45 minutes and purchase day ticket once current one has expired despite the fact you have not exceeded the car parks restrictions. Simple fixes: Allow to renew a day ticket after a set time of an existing payment - say after 23hrs. Allow individuals to ‘check out’ of the car park - they confirm they no longer need the space for the rest of the period. Both of the above will allow users to pay for parking the next day..Version: 4.8.0

Half hour increments pleaseBe better if you could pay in half hour increments!!!.Version: 4.8.0

Hate that they put ads on hereUsed to be the perfect app, now not any more. I hate all the ads when paying for parking. Great way to lose customers!.Version: 9.4.0

Expensive!I had to download and use this app this morning after I’d parked my car in a pay and display area near to my work and all of the pay machines were down. I took a picture of the nearest pay machine and went into my office to register and pay for my parking. When I inputted the number of the machine (stencilled on it in very large spray paint) it told me I was in the wrong country! I then had to manually look up the address which a feat on its own as the street names aren’t listed alphabetically and then I discovered the street I’d parked on has an inner and outer listing. I had no idea what to choose so selected the first option. Then to add insult to injury I was charged £2 per hour plus another 20p when if the coin machine had worked it would have been £1 per hour. In short, a badly designed app and an utter rip off!.Version: 4.2.0

Payment method is quirkyOverall the app works well. I use it three times per week at a Boston area MBTA station. The minor annoyance is the payment system. I pay using a pre-tax commuter parking benefit card. When there is not enough balance, it correctly rejects the card. But when I select another card on file, such as a regular credit card, it rejects that one too. It does not accept payment unless you add a new card from scratch. I. Other words, it keeps rejecting payment until a new card is added, even if you delete a valid card on file and reenter the same one. Also, it does not allow you to edit a card and enter a new expiration date; you must delete and reenter..Version: 9.4.0

User unfriendlyUser unfriendly oh my goodness.Version: 9.4.0

App constantly times out when attempting to make paymentThis app used to work great and it was so easy to pay for parking, or extend it when away from the car. But recently it’s caused me so many headaches and I even got a fine because of it. Mainly because it keeps timing out or giving error messages when I try to pay, so I’m always unsure whether the payment went through and whether my parking permit is valid. And when the app freezes, I can’t see my parking permit, so I can’t extend my parking if I’m running late, risking another fine there. As they encourage everyone else to contact their support, I submitted a complaint about their app and all I got was a lazy excuse that it doesn’t work properly because I’m on 5G. Just fix your app, stop blaming it on everything else!.Version: 8.6.0

Surcharge is ridiculousPaying with this is more expensive than using the meter. Avoid this app.Version: 8.2.2

Stupid appCannot say “yes! That’s my number!!!!!”.Version: 9.4.0

Parking experienceSpent 40 minutes trying to pay by phone in Stratford, London. Phone system did not work - could not recognise my voice if I gave my reg vocally, and when I put the number in (very time-consuming) I could not complete it because it asked me to press the “number key if you’re done”. I don’t know what “the number key” is. I tried #, tried *, tried various numbers (having to go through the very laborious process for entering my reg number each time…). I went looking for the man giving out tickets and asked him for help. He could not help. His advice was to move, or I would get a ticket, and when I explained that I had spent 40 minutes trying to get a ticket, he suggested “I take it easy”. If the app is the only way to park then be honest about it. Obviously the people making money from drivers who haven’t paid to park are very happy if the system for paying to park doesn’t work. Well done all round.Version: 7.9.1

Over paymentWould be nice to be able to turn off when you come back to your car so you aren’t guessing and overpaying for parking. City of Calgary does it right. This us just greedy..Version: 9.4.0

Adding a payment card - what a palaver.I had to update my payment card as I was parking up. I had the details of the vehicle and the location, time etc. Adding payment was not straightforward - despite it saying it supported ApplePay it does not. It has a auto recognition of your card - sounds promising except the window to capture the card in is landscape on the portrait phone screen. You can’t rotate it. So unless you’ve got a five foot arm, you can’t get the picture of the card. It took several attempts - most of which were incorrect when read. I ended up putting the card on the car park floor. It then needs to authorise the card but when you leave the screen to verify in your banking app it logs you out of the process and you have to start again. I figured out that if I had my banking app already open and logged in , I could complete the process. Guess what… by this time the app had timed out and I had to start over, though this time I had a payment card logged. You have no choice but to use this app if the parking bay requires it, but it’s time to start testing it with real life use cases and users. Very poor experience..Version: 9.1.0

Can only pay in one hour intervalsLet us pay in smaller intervals. If parking ends at 4:00 and I park at 3:40 I still have to pay for an hour.Version: 4.4.0

For money hungry councilsThis app is so much worse than paystay. With this up you have to designate an amount of time and pay for that full allotment, so if you get back to your car early you have already paid in advance, and you don't even get the small amount of joy of providing time on the meter for another patron. With paystay however you only pay for the time you were parked which saves me almost $30 a week. If your council is using this app they are revenue hungry and deserve to be exploited as much as possible..Version: 1.3.3

WARNING TO PERMIT HOLDERS USING THIS APPThis app has a major issue and the support team refuse to investigate or accept liability. I purchased a resident visitor parking ticket for 2 days. I paid via Apple Pay which appeared successful and the transaction complete (the green tick appeared on FaceID to confirm payment successful). The next day my family member had a parking ticket. I checked the app and no record of the transaction - yet they had the reg for the car saved in the app… I only entered this when I paid for the parking, how else would they have this registration? I rang support and was hung up on, I’ve been disgustingly treated on email and ignored. There is a serious issue with this app and the PayByPhone service altogether. I now have to pay a fine when I paid for my parking in good faith. DO NOT USE THIS APP YOU WILL END UP WITH A TICKET AS IT HAS A FAULT AND DOES NOT RECORD YOUR TRANSACTION..Version: 9.1.0

Beyond ConfusingOk, so I payed for a spot in the UCSF lot, but the app provides ZERO info such as the address to tell me which lot or what the address is. Is this pass good for any UCSF lot? Just one lot? No way to tell, no phone number, no info, zilch. Oh, and the map is beyond ridiculous. You can’t even search for the venue number. Just look at a map of the area, which seems to show parking locations. But you click and click, and most of the time you can’t select one, or it zooms in and several icons appear in the place of the one. And you have to be able to click on one to see the number. So I guess I’m supposed to just try clicking these throughout the hundreds of locations in San Francisco until I happen to find the location? I mean, at the very least, if you refuse to list the address of the garage, and not allow me to search the location number, the least you could do is have the location number visible as you view the map. It’s a great concept, but definitely needs some work..Version: 8.3.0

One flawI could not figure out whyyyy it keeps telling me my payment was declined and then my mothers card as well, even tho it worked on hers….. I chose not to put a photo of my car….but instead of highlight it in red ot TELL ME THE ISSUE WAS A MISSING PHOTO, it tells me my payment is declined. I stopped using it for months lol. Like just say it’s missing a photo. Nothing wrong with my payment method..Version: 9.4.0

OrdinaryThe App is a great idea but it simply never ever works properly. Never. Ring the phone number and that works well, but don’t waste your time trying to purchase parking through the app..Version: 4.2.0

Update doesn’t workI can’t use this new update - it keeps giving me a failed log in screen over and over no matter what I do. Even when just trying to use the app. Please fix it! I like using this app..Version: 5.9.0

Why no flexibility?Decent app, but there are a couple of things they should add to make it friendly. 1. The ability to transfer my parking from one location to another. I may be running errands and not sure how long I’m going to stop at one spot, so I pay for an hour and then get in and out quickly. Now I have to waste that time and then pay again at the next place I stop. Once I pay, the time should be valid for any space that costs the same rate. 2. I should be able to set a maximum time in the app, so that if I don’t hear the notification telling me my parking is about to expire, the app will automatically renew it up to the limit that I set..Version: 3.3.3

DisasterUnable to set up an account using my mobile, because system doesn’t seem to recognise a 6 in a license plate. Just shuts down data entry: error message tells me to start again. Unable to create an account using the app. Tap “register” to create an account and error message says log-in information is incorrect. Tried to contact Support but can’t submit the request - error message says I need to enter e-mail address (which was entered correctly). I have never come across such an awful process. Update: account now set up and it seemed it was partially set up already, even though no prior indication of that. Not a straightforward process, but hopefully I can now use the service..Version: 5.7.1

If you’re using this for the first time check that the app hasn’t overwritten your dataI used this app for the first time a few weeks ago, paid my parking charge then received a £100 fine. When I checked my email receipt I noticed that reg on the receipt was for a car I sold 5 years ago! How had this happened? Apparently my new PayByPhone account holds information regarding two occasions from about 10 years ago when I had used the RingGo app. I can only assume that this app had access to my old RingGo app data and overwrote the reg number of my new car with that of a vehicle I haven’t owned for 5 years. How did this app get that personal data? Now I have a choice of paying a fine or going to court, even though I paid the parking charge. My experience raises some very serious data privacy issues which I will be raising with the information commissioner. Beware..Version: 6.8.4

Overcharged on numerous occasionsThere have been several occasions, as of late, where I choose to park for one day. I make sure to select pay to park for 1 day, the review before charge shows I chose 1 day with the correct amount to be charged, and then I hit pay. I receive my text message receipt only to find out that I have actually been charged for 2 days and not 1. There is some bug in the app that is causing this and has done this several times now. On some days I have been able to let this go if I plan to return to the same lot the next day but on others I am being charged for a day that I won’t be there. This needs to be addressed..Version: 4.4.0

Is it illegally dodging GST?I downloaded the app and used it at Monash Uni in Melb, Australia as I couldn't find a parking machine. Managed to pay ok, but couldn't work out how to get a tax invoice. Contacted their email address and asked if they could email it to me, Adrian advised best to download it. The phone doesn't have this ability. He then advised that I needed to log into the net, but mobile internet via smart phone can't get there either. He then advised to log in via a PC. Did this, downloaded receipt, but no mention of GST, only VAT. I emailed him again but to date no reply. I will take this information to both Monash Uni and the Australian Tax Office as it feels a bit shifty! Needless to say, I have not used the app since..Version: 1.3.3

15 min blocksWould be better if you could pay in 15 minute blocks or half an hour. I have an hour long class but have to pay for 2 hours because it takes me 5 minutes to walk to my class and 5 minutes to walk back.Version: 4.9.0

Utter rubbishI’ve spent hours trying to get this app to work with no real success. The map doesn’t show any locations so you can’t press the purple location. The charge on the app does not reflect the cost on the parking sign, doesn’t show the free parking period. Developer- have a look at the app “MiPermit” That’s how an app should work. Your app isn’t even close. Will be deleting immediately after this review. Update: Thank you for your email acknowledging my comments. Thank you for the invitation but I don’t really want to reach out in your chatbot system as I think there are ample reviews indicating the issues with the app. Also as I mentioned earlier if you make a comparison between your PayByPhone app and MiPermit you should see very clearly what is lacking in your app..Version: 7.12.0

Don’t too small and faint!I just installed the app and haven’t yet used it for parking payment. But I’m concerned about its usability because of the very small and faint text font used. Even with my reading glasses I have to squint and make effort to read the text in the app. And in real-world parking situations the ambient light might be bright, making light gray or light green text very hard to read. Interestingly, when I took the survey on the site my text answers were in larger/thicker black font and were easily readable! Please honor real-world usability needs rather than the trendy design fad of almost unreadable text..Version: 9.0.0

Nothing specialThis app works fine, but it does nothing more than put a parking meter in your pocket. The parking tab is simply a HTML container, so it lacks productive functionality that you might hope for. Simple things like notifications when your fee is about to expire, or not having to wait for the app to re-load when you switch back to it could be simply solved. As far as usability is concerned, Park Mobile is a much better app. But your hands are tied by what's been put in place. A bare-minimum effort..Version: 1.2.4

Ads every time I park? Why am I being bombarded by ads in this app every time i want to park??? Cash grab central..Version: 9.2.0

No alerts without SMS!I’m traveling and only using WiFi - no mobile network connection. The app does not send alerts without a mobile network connection. I was expecting a notification as o had allowed notifications via the app but none came through! It also fail to alert users that the car park may have a minimum time before it is permitted to return. Very high risk of incurring parking fines if you use this app and just expect it to tell you what the limits are and when they expire..Version: 4.7.2

Rip offDevelopers removed my review and sent me to a virtual assistant that does not help in any way... Not a great start... The car park apps prices did not match those on the machine that was conveniently broken. You are forced to then use the app and pay the higher price. What an absolute rip off. I am happy to report this issue but please give me an email address or something. Your virtual chat has no option for this problem - which I feel is very convenient for you. Edit: I talked to your support and they were not very helpful. Probably because I uncovered your micro-scam. Edit again: still unresolved. This company cares about one thing and that is taking your money! Update again: 3 months on and this company is still totally ignoring me. They are outright scamming customers under the excuse of it being someone else's responsibility. Yet they are happy to take your money in the process. I am in discussions with the council about this but who knows how long that will take....Version: 9.3.0

FraudAfter keeps pushing the advertisement on that I can get $15 cash back for 1 year, I clicked on the link and entered my credit card number. Instead of getting $15, I’m deducted for $3.00 immediately. Thanks for the amazing advertisement.Version: 9.4.0

Not user friendly for those not tech savvyIf you are in a hurry, you may have issues with setting up the app at your parking spot. It takes some minutes to set up your profile and car. That’s frustrating. Used for 1st time last summer and not again until this year. I forgot that it logged a specific vehicle. So this year in a different vehicle and ended up paying for parking for a car I wasn’t in. No way to fix. Added todays vehicle and paid again. Sigh. I will say it’s nice to extend and pay while still away from my car. However, once I did have to go back because it wouldn’t extend. App need to have you verify your vehicle before paying. Recommend setting your phone to remind you to extend. The app reminds you but my phone was not set to vibrate so I missed one reminder. The app is ok once set up but needs a few tweaks. Overall my feelings are mixed. My main quibble is with the town of Gettysburg that gave no pay with credit card at the meter nor ahead info you need the app and extra time to deal wi it..Version: 8.7.0

Kind of does what it’s supposed to, but horribly designed. It’s hard to believe this app was chosen by cities to handle public parking. The entire app is poorly designed, has an ugly interface and barely any useful functionality. The notifications are laughable. It only confirms that you parked (which is obviously redundant to having just confirmed that in the app), and doesn’t give a 15-min expiration warning or anything that would actually be helpful. Turning on location seems to *remove* the ability to locate via map; instead it just shows me a wallpaper of a city landmark. These are design choices that frustrate users because they’re so far outside of normal app functionality. Parkmobile is 1000x better and if you have the option, I highly recommend using that instead. Update: Thanks for the response from developers recommending to turn on location settings and to… read up on notifications. They are both enabled but unfortunately neither feature works regardless..Version: 9.4.0

Didn’t workApp wouldn’t process my transaction when I was parking. Tried different cards, but to no avail and despite many repeated attempts. Verified my information was correct, but my transactions would not go through. Tried my cards out in the store late and they worked just fine. Had to scrounge up cash and was lucky I had any. (Paying with cash turned out to be another little nightmare, as the kiosk kept rejecting my dollar bills that were not perfectly flat. I had to keep ironing out a tiny crease. I know the kiosk’s temperamental nature is not at fault of this app, but it certainly didn’t help the situation. If this app was an option and this app is supposed to be smart, convenient, and useful.... well, it wasn’t this day.) Really disappointing. The interface is just short of pleasant and intuitive. It ran slowly. I also wonder if the app struggles to process payments, then how it would do when you need to quickly park and move on, or when you need to modify your parking transaction. This app has left a very poor impression on me..Version: 5.0.1

Crap1. I signed up some time ago apparently but forgot to make a note of what email address I used and what password. I tried to use it again today but as I said I didn’t remember one or other of the above. There did not appear to have a ... ‘ forgot user name or password’ option so I attempted to log in by opening a new account but when I entered my phone number it recognised it obviously from the earlier time and told me to login using my account.... which I obviously couldn’t do. There was an option to continue without a confirmation text which I pressed but a screen shot up requiring me to enter my phone number.... which I did....back in the loop. Tried again this time thinking I’d make up a phone number when the continue without confirmation box popped up, but then it asked for an email which I entered......back in the loop. By now I had been there at least 8 to 10 minutes and was getting late for my meeting. I had no coins. There was no notes option and no credit card option. In the end I had to create a whole new account but had to make up a phone number and use another email address. Total crap ... 2 To add insult to injury and really take the pi*s, 2 hours if I’d paid with coins was £3.99 but via this App it was £5.99. What a rip off. If you have any option other than this useless, rip off App I’d suggest you use it. WM.Version: 4.4.0

ScammersPayByPhone are total scammers. I’ve done some digging into this app after I experienced my credit cards being decline randomly. I soon found out that this PayByPhone app has coded its api response to only return a single error code (declined) regardless of your credit card working. So what this means is the vendor could have underlying technology issues, or the ability to authorize the charge with their merchant and it will only show decline instead of something more accurate like “network down” etc. This means if your getting a ticket you cannot dispute it. This is fraud and shady practice by the vendor which I plan to launch a lawsuit here in Vancouver. Will be posting on Reddit Vancouver with my analysis to factor this into to anyone else who might be impacted.Version: 9.4.0

Need half hour increments!Great app otherwise. Very user friendly..Version: 5.2.3

Good app. Zero star customer support if something goes wrongHave been using this app for a few months with only good things to say until tonight. After I paid to park and walked out a different exit I saw a sign on the lot explaining that it was permit parking only / tow away 24/7. I’d already paid but didn’t want to risk it and get towed. Annoyed, I moved my car and found a spot at another lot. Called customer support to explain (and suggest that they change their signs in that lot). I expected a quick fix refund - but they told me I’d need to call another number. Their customer support couldn’t transfer the call to their own refund dept... and the person I was talking to couldn’t authorize $3 refund - ugh. pathetic. Don’t waste your time.Version: 6.6.0
