The Week Magazine US for Negative User Reviews

New app version is AWFUL!A cardinal rule when updating software is NOT TO REMOVE FEATURES THAT ARE HELPFUL! With your recent update, you removed the text to speech option! THIS WAS MY FAVORITE FEATURE! I don’t have time to read The Week cover to cover but I do love listening to it when I work out. Now I can’t do this. I even participated in a focus group for The Week a few months ago when you were testing out the new daily content. One of the things I REPEATED AGAIN AND AGAIN was how much I like the text to speech. After 14+ years as a subscriber, you’ve lost me. I’ll be canceling my subscription. Slap the knuckleheaded kindergarteners who “redesigned” your app. It’s a glorified PDF and it is an inferior product..Version: 6.5.5

Please don’t change for the sake of changeThis latest “update” removes the daily news briefing as well as makes the digital version much more clumsy than the previous one. Please bring back the daily news briefing, and revert to the previous version Also, having the page over the text just blocks it, please revert to the older version..Version: 6.5.1

Unbalanced DigestsI’ve been searching for media outlets that digest unbiased general news coverage so I can stay up to date quickly without being subjected to indoctrination from any specific party. The Week is not that. While The Week does cover news from a variety of sources and compiles them in short, easy-access format (exactly what I want), the summaries they feature lean too far to the left. I will have to keep looking for an unbiased news source..Version: 6.3.9

DissapointedHave been reading this mag for years as it’s the best I’ve ever found for concise summation of competing perspectives of the news that mattered. Have subscribed for years and now print+digital, but it pains me to say the app for those digital subscribers is failing us. Unreliable, glitchy, limited control features to view/read the weekly issue on digital. I mean this week issue that should have been available midnight Friday still hasn’t loaded on this broken app. The picture of the cover of new issue is there but opens last weeks issue. We deserve a better app for the cost is all I’m sayin..Version: 6.5.1

New iPad app is a ZERO starI love The Week, but I’m seriously considering cancelling my subscription due to the horrid new iPad app. They had a perfectly fine app, but some clever bunny in the Digital Dept. decided to inflict “change for change sake” and totally screwed it up. Now we have a PDF version of the print magazine, which is blurry and total CRAP!! It’s been several weeks since this debacle, and I’m really puzzled about why they didn’t just “turn back time” and go back to the prior version of the app. Time is ticking before I cancel my subscription..Version: 6.5.1

Love the news in The Week. Hate The Weeks new App 9/23The Week just updated their App in Sept 23. Now the app is buggy and not a all user friendly. Hard to navigation, no guidance on how to use the ‘new’ features. How to switch between PDF and Text. Well there’s a hidden (literally invisible) icon you have to find (they don’t tell you about it) to active the Text format. (You can see the icon to switch back to PDF format though … so that’s something)..Version: 6.5.1

Long downhill slide has hit bottomI have been reading The Week for at least 10 years now. It used to be a great magazine- introduce a topic, then present viewpoints from both political sides. Quote The NY Times, The Washington Post, then The Wall Street and National Review. Unfortunately , it’s gone the way of most of the US media, with a very strong left-leaning slant. Now quote 3 or 4 mainstream, left-wing news sources, then one token conservative one(if that). In addition, the material presented by the magazine itself has gone completely left-sided. It’s too bad. I always liked getting both sides of the story and then making my own decisions. Now The Week feel that it is simply there to tell me what to think. Probably won’t renew my subscription..Version: 6.4.0

The Week is great! The app is less so…This is not a critique on the magazine at all. I love the magazine and was thrilled when I saw there was a mobile option. The problem, however, is that app is not the most user friendly. The app is really glitchy and crashes often. The app also doesn’t refresh by itself, so you have to constantly quit out of the app to get new daily articles. Finally, there are just a few other small glitches, like being unable to scroll sometimes, that get me a tad frustrated. I’d suggest investing a little bit into some UX/UI..Version: 6.3.0

Changed digital formatActual images of paper publication are much less accessible on a tablet requiring enlargement and repositioning in order to read articles. While previous digital format lacked “the magazine look” each item fitted the screen..Version: 6.5.1

Digital changes awfulI have subscribed to The Week for years and have used the digital version for some time. Recently they “updated” the app. It basically is the paper magazine scanned. No matter how much I zoom and move it around, I can not read the material. I contacted customer service and was told they were working on it. I see no changes after 2 weeks. If this continues I will cancel my subscription. I will hate doing that because I really look forward to reading this each week.Version: 6.5.1

New update ruins everything!I love this magazine. At home or on the road I read it with my iPad. The new update displays the print articles instead of the easy to read digital article format. I just want to be able to read the articles in the previous format. And I want the feature of the top latest news that i read every morning to be restored. How did the manage to screw this up so throughly? This is very frustrating and I miss the old format. RA.Version: 6.5.1

Wonderful Content, Horrible App UpgradeLatest version does not scale to screen size on iPhone, rendering the content essentially unreadable. Unless this issue is resolved by the developer, will need to discontinue my subscription. Update Ok, so I gave the app another try on my iPad and found by complete accident that if you click on the image of an individual article on a page it does expand to the screen size of the device, rendering it completely readable. Subsequent articles are then also expanded to that format. I can’t imagine that I am the only person who will be baffled by this curious UI choice. Why this is not the default setting for the app (as opposed to initially viewing an image of the paper magazine in layout view) is inexplicable and entirely unintuitive. You might consider implementing an app change to make expanded article view the default to eliminate confusion among your subscribers..Version: 6.5.1

Liberal overviewPotential subscribers should realize they are buying the NYT/Wapo when they sign up. Pro union and globalist in its bias rendered perhaps a little more forgivable by its gorgeous front pages..Version: 1.0.1

Downgraded appFor some reason the publishers have downloaded the app so it only has a pdf version of the magazine at substandard scan. The words are pixelated and blurred. All a bit disappointing as the prior app was fine.Version: 6.5.1

The Week Has Followed all Other Media Off s CliffThe Week used to be a fantastic publication. It was actually well balanced. Ever since a certain election in 2016 though, the Week began a steep nose dive where they followed other news outlets on a hard bank to the left. Now it is literally just another talking head for the all woke, no joke media. Obviously, they are going to remind people of other publications since it is literally a synopsis of other publications. However, leftist sources are now quoted seemingly four times for every one moderate or conservative publication. Sadly, I just said goodbye to my subscription after twelve mostly good years as a reader (well probably only eight of those years were good). Maybe if they ever grow a pair and stop throwing up their hands to the woke digital lynch mob I will consider resubscribing. Unfortunately, the more likely outcome is that I will be called a bigot because I don’t want to read their propaganda anymore. Either way, I’m not subscribing to crap that claims to be balanced and instead rams a partisan line down my throat..Version: 6.2.2

MisleadingBlurb says the app is free, and that, for a limited time, the latest issue can be downloaded free. However, once you've downloaded the app, any attempt to download the "free" latest issue is met with a message that no issues are available..Version: 1.0.1

App glitches every several months and it’s so frustratingOn the one hand I thoroughly enjoy Reading the Week, and the improved App is pretty good and easy to use. ON THE OTHER HAND, despite having an ongoing paid one full subscription for years, every several months I can’t access my issues and it asks me to subscribe or pay. I AM subscribed and therefore don’t have to pay, so let me download my issues. It must be an upgrade glitch but it happens far too often..Version: 6.2.0

10 Things page display errorOn iPhone 12 Pro Max, iOS 16.1 The last two lines on the daily 10 Things news list are blocked by a bottom-of-page ad border (or something). To get the page to fully display, must rotate display to landscape, scroll to the bottom (still blocked here), then re-rotate to portrait and re-scroll to bottom of page..Version: 6.3.9

Don’t waste your moneyI was an avid reader of The Week for over 10 years. Have recently cancelled my subscription, however, due to the absolutely awful digital app. It is unreadable. Simply taking a pdf of your print magazine and throwing it up on your iPad or phone so one has to pinch and zoom to read an article is the definition of laziness. What bothers me the most is since I have cancelled I have been getting emails to renew and in these emails they boast “Try our newly enhanced digital subscription….” They had it right before their “upgrade”. Don’t waste your money..Version: 6.5.5

Can’t access current issue through appThe Week is great. What is the point of being a subscriber if I can’t view the current issue through the app? I’m signed into the app with my subscriber number and cannot see content and they’re asking me to purchase or subscribe. I’ve subscribed to The Week forever, probably 10 years. The app has always dropped my account info and made me go through hoops to reconnect..Version: 6.2.2

The Week is the greatest! Service not as much.I've been reading The Week in both print and digital form for years. I enjoy the mix of news and other features. When it first went to digital, it was a bit buggy and it would occasionally shut down and need a reboot. For a long time now, however, using an iPad, when opening the app to read the daily update, the current day isn’t available. You need to either shut down and reboot the device, or delete and reinstall the app (which deletes your customer info). This happens at least two or more times a week. It is completely unacceptable. It happens to no other app I’ve ever used. Yes, the magazine is one of the best for fairly balanced news reporting, but it needs to work all the time to be truly great..Version: 6.2.2

Mediocre appDoes not reliably function without a live internet connection. Clumsy process to restore iTunes subscription. Slow display. Overall disappointing: the UK app is much better.Version: 6.1.0

New app is horribleI am frustrated, mad, and entirely disappointed in the new app from The Week. Every day I used to easily get to my daily 10, and then I would move on to reading articles in the magazine. Now, the app is completely inconsistent in taking me to the 10… Rather directing me to UK content, treating me like I am not a subscriber by not remembering that I’m logged in, and generally very hard to navigate whether using nav stack or app icons at bottom of page. In addition, all pages are covered with so many ads - you can barely read the content. So disappointing. Why am I paying for a digital subscription? I don’t know. I am likely to cancel..Version: 6.5.1

The most unreliable app I useThis app is wholly unreliable, usually failing to load or freezing, and working especially terribly when I’m traveling and trying to use my phone’s hotspot connection. It’s gotten a lot worse over the years. When it does work, its functionality is not bad, but the navigation could be a bit more intuitive..Version: 6.3.9

Changes to APP are BadAfter spending time with this APP I can now read one page per screen but it is not the same as the previous version. What happened to notifying customers about such changes before they are made? If the new upgrade coming soon does not make the APP better I like many others will cancel my subscription. How about more information on when this upgrade is coming?.Version: 6.5.1

The Week MagazineConstant problems when trying to subscribe. It is not a user friendly process- especially for us ancient, technologically impaired seniors. The magazine itself is great. Unreliable download. App causes constant problems. I’ll get the hard copy next time I renew..Version: 6.5.1

Mobile App Needs WorkLove the magazine and get it in print, but the app needs to offer greater functionality for phones. I shouldn’t have to pinch, zoom and scroll to read an article. Read mode would be a good start! The magazine doesn’t fill the screen like a made-for-mobile app should. It feels like a desktop browser on my phone and that’s the worst kind of mobile app!!.Version: 6.5.5

Love The Week - they ruined the appWhat did you do? I love reading The Week for a balanced run down of the events. It has been my go to, avoiding cable news, for years. My iPad, a cup of coffee and its a great morning. By now only showing a pdf of the print version, it’s much harder to read with some blurry text articles, and having to zoom in and out. Is this to cut costs? Please go back to a tablet version, or give me a choice. The update is hard to read and makes The Week far less enjoyable..Version: 6.5.1

Where are the 10 things I need to know?Every change this app/site makes is terrible. It used to be straightforward now too much opinion and analysis from the staff. There are a million places to get that and few to just get news. I also hate the new way the magazine displays in app. There is always an annoying icon in the corner. I wish they would return to their roots..Version: 6.5.5

Where’s my reviewI wrote a review several days ago but have yet to see it posted. ? So I repeat— Agree with prior reviews that the PDF format is a step backwards. But my main complaint is with customer service. I changed to a digital only subscription last year after we had unreliable postal delivery. This new update logged me out and I had to fax proof of subscription receipts in order to get back on. Customer service twice directed me to zinio app support who longer contracts with the magazine. Not sure if I will renew. Update. There appears to be no progress in repairing this horrible update. While I like the magazine’s content, I cancelled my subscription today..Version: 6.5.1

The magazine is great. The app is horrible.I subscribe to the digital version of the magazine and the app is horrible. I have Mac iOS 15.7. Every single week it takes dozens of times to get to the current issue. I never know whether or not I will get to read it. So far this week I haven’t been able to open it. Sometimes the new issue will show up but I can’t turn the page. Usually I can’t get to the new issue at all. I prefer the digital edition but if I can’t read it it’s pointless. Every week I’ve been able to eventually read it but it’s a time consuming and stressful process to get to the point when I can. I haven’t been able to get in yet this week. it shouldn’t be this difficult or difficult at all..Version: 6.3.9

More Datelines, clearer navigation neededWhile the content is good, the navigation needs attention. It’s never clear where you are when you click on an article to read it: You could be in the current issue or in a past issue - there are no datelines on anything to tell you when the content on your screen was written or in which issue it was published. It’s also difficult to figure out the navigation on the app since there, well, isn’t any. Click on an article an boop! There you are, great, but no indication how to get back nor forward. Really a disappointingly not-well-thought out app from an otherwise intelligent publication..Version: 6.4.0

PDF-ish version is not mobile friendlyThe developers’ decision to switch to what is effectively a pdf has made it difficult to scroll through. Mobile versions are primarily about convenience; controlled by the thumb of one hand (as opposed to computer versions, where you are already sitting and have a mouse and keyboard at your fingertips). The quality of the information is irrelevant if I can’t easily read it. Having to use one hand to hold the phone while I use the other to 2D scroll and pinch has been enough for me to cancel my subscription. If you change it back (all other things remaining equal), I will resubscribe. Thanks for reading and good luck..Version: 6.5.1

The Week Magazine USThis app does not work for me! I have a print subscription to this fantastic news magazine and want desperately to have access to it on my ipad. Forget it! Still trying to figure out with The Week Customer Service why the app won't show the issues.... I have not given up just yet! Wish me luck!.Version: 1.0

I love the actual magazine, but not the digital oneI signed up for my favorite source of news. I thought I would be in heaven, but when I saw how there was no way to opt out from their security practices unless you live in California. I quickly cancelled my order. Listen up, they claim the right to sell all your information and they target ads at their discretion. Take it or leave it - I decided to leave it..Version: 6.3.0

Terrible Customer serviceI’ve subscribed to the Week US for years. I read it at night using night mode. Recently the app stopped supporting night mode - when I reached out to customer service about this they closed my ticket and told me to reach out to the Week UK support team even though I am US based with a US subscription. Clearly, this apps customer service just closes tickets with whatever reasons they can think of..Version: 6.5.1

App is Unreadable and Customer Service is TerribelThe previous app version was much more readable on my phone. (The app developer recently changed.) This new version appears just like the magazine has been scanned in. Also, the customer service is terrible. In the app it directs you The Week customer service (open the app, in Settings select Need Help? And go to Need support with the app?), but if you contact that they will direct you to the app developer, which will the direct you to The Week customer service. After years of using (and enjoying) the app, I stopped my subscription..Version: 6.5.1
