Linux Format for Negative User Reviews

False advertising"save at least 24% when you subscribe" So why is it, that the minimum subscription period of 3 months is £14.99? I make that 2p more expensive than buying three separate issues at £4.99 each!! Other than the pricing that needs sorting out, and the blatant false lie as illustrated above, the magazine content is fine..Version: 1.0

Do not subscribe or buy from themFuture Plc makes terrible magazine app. It is almost impossible to get a subscription from them that will work on more than one device (iPhone and iPad). They seem to make you purchase the magazines more than once if you want to read it on your iPhone and iPad. You are better off subscribing to their pdf format...at least with that you can read on a PC and multiple devices..Version: 3.8.1

Ok but need high res picturesI love this magazine and wanted to subscribe via my iPad. But the low resolution on screenshots is a deal breaker for me. The text and layout is great but if I zoom in to take a look at a screenshot then it is a blurry mess that is unreadable. Considering this magazine is full of screenshots of applications and terminal commands this is kind of important. If you include full resolution screenshots then you will have an instant yearly subscription purchase from me. I seriously don't mind if the files are larger size just increase the screenshot quality. pretty please with a cheery on top..Version: 1.6

NOT FREE!!!!This is NOT FREE!!!! You will get NOTHING FREE by downloading this..Version: 1.8

Keeps crashing on my iPad-miniI wish I can read my magazine but the app keeps crashing..Version: 3.8.3

Crashing appNice content, but app keeps crashing repeatedly..Version: 1.0

Crash and burnI would love to subscribe to this, if only I could read more than two pages without crashing. I might even be satisfied if I could consistently read one page, without crashing as soon as I attempt to flip to it via the index at the bottom of the screen..Version: 1.0

Terrible attempt at a mobile appI've had a subscription to your printed Linux Format magazine and I've bought it off the shelf at book stores. This digital copy is far less expensive than buying it off a bookseller's shelf (usually around $15 USD) and as a print subscription ($125 USD for 13 issues), which I appreciate. However, the actual iPhone/iPad app leaves a lot to be desired. The UI is terrible. There is no integration with Safari, to easily navigate to a web link. The advertisement space is annoying in the mobile environment and takes up way too much real estate. The image resolution is questionable, at best. Finally, had I known there would not be any way to get the disks, included with the printed edition and that I would not have access to the web site, as I do with a print subscription, I never would have subscribed to it via the App Store. I can tell you this much, I will not renew, until these options are made available. Nice to see the disclaimers have now been added to the app, in the app store, but not before I had already signed up for 6 months..Version: 1.6

Very disappointed.I'm very disappointed that you have to buy a subscription..Version: 1.0

Crashes a lotWill change to 5 star as soon as it stops crashing..Version: 1.0

Don't botherIs not free you have to pay Another mag where you have to pay the right to read their ads.....Version: 2.1

Cannot download contentSince January I cannot download any issues and cannot login anymore, despite having reset my password. The magazine content itself is great but the mymagazine account and their support is not satisfying. I paid for the magazine but cannot read it:-(.Version: 6.0.6

Bait and switchI love the paper version of Linux Format so I downloaded the free issue here to try reading it on iPhone only to discover the screenshots are fake. If you download this all you get is a bunch of links to buy issues or subscriptions. Why the bait and switch? Uninstalling.Version: 2.0.2

Its ok but...No option to save articles to evernote. ok., i read a good article about how to solve something but now i want to save it for later use - no option .:-(.Version: 3.8.3

Mag is good - app isn'tEnjoy the mag but the app fails if using iOS 6 on a iPhone 3G. Also the 'extras' available from the mag with a subscription are not accessible for subscribers paid via iTunes. To be honest they should state that..Version: 4.4.1

Don't buy through apple!!!!!This would have been a 5-star review. However: If you buy your subscription through iTunes (for full price), you can only read your issues on Apple-branded hardware. If you create an account on their website, and buy that way, you can then sign in and read on anything. Support won't even be sympathetic, let alone fix the issue. I don't think I need to point out the irony in a magazine about Linux that doesn't work on Linux. Second, despite the fact that I have an active subscription, and all of the back issues, the app keeps bombarding me with offers to buy the back issues I already own. As I mentioned, this is a 5-star app, but since neither the publisher nor Apple will fess up to how badly you're getting screwed by buying this way, I thought I'd try to save at least one other person from this debacle. tl;dr: DO NOT BUY MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTIONS THROUGH APPLE IF YOU OWN ANY NON-APPLE DEVICES!!!!!!.Version: 4.4.1

No bookmarking?I have downloaded some of the back issues (for IPAD) as i've enjoyed reading this magazine at the store but it's too expensive to purchase in North America (at the bookstore). However, the app isn't user friendly as there is no way to bookmark or favorite an article or page on the app. Also, when you go back into the app after leaving or turning off your ipad, you open up at page one of the magazine again, so have to scroll through the magazine again to find where you've left off. This is again where the favorites/bookmarking feature would really help. Other magazines on IPAD have this feature but this one doesn't, which is surprising. It keeps an otherwise great magazine from being truly enjoyable..Version: 3.8.1

Knackered...Version 2.0 knackered on iPad 3rd gen. App is totally blank, can't see a thing. Deleted and redownloaded, same problem. Please fix!.Version: 2.0

What a price£44.99 for a cheap pdf????? No press cost, no paper cost, no postage, less employees, no ink cost and it is still £44.99 for a cheap pdf. Ha ha ha ha. Do not buy if it is more than £15 for a year..Version: 3.1.3

Always a great mag, but why so pricey?I was excited to see Linux format available on the app store being a Linux user and big fan of the magazine. Even a free copy to read, Great! Then to my shock the price to buy, £4.99 come on! £2.99 is a better price. At its current price I won't be buying it. Shame..Version: 1.0

Paid no magazineBought thru iTunes I wasn’t getting my issues but they were taking the money from my account every month. Customer support was slim to none when asking for help with the issue. When finally getting in contact with someone through email due to no number being available I was only refunded 1 month with issues I had paid for still asking me for payment before I could download. I reached out numerous times to only be ignored. Thanks Jellisa iTunes customer support. Would not purchase anything through iTunes in the future..Version: 5.2.3

DisappointingLinux Format is a great magazine. But I have found the app has much room to improve. The earlier versions were prone to crash. The current version, 1.6, on the other hand, does not let you preview / peruse a magazine before buying..Version: 1.6

Crashing constantlyI hope to see an update soon. The app has crashed repeatedly while I have been trying to read the issue..Version: 1.0

Excellent magazine, app leaves a lot to be desiredThis app feels more like a purpose built PDF viewer more than a "magazine app". It leaves a lot to be desired. Bookmarking would be awesome, trying to download back issues or restoring subscriptions can be painful. The content of the magazine is excellent and I love reading Linux Format. Would like a more interactive experience, maybe a font enlarging feature other than just page zooming, but I understand that may be a lot of extra work that a small magazine team wouldn't have the appropriate resources to do that. My star rating is strictly rating the app and not the magazine content. Content gets 5 stars hands down. Thank you for a great magazine.Version: 3.8.1

Too slow by modern standards.App works, all subscriptions are there. Only bad thing is it takes far too long to load up the library upon login..Version: 6.4

Great magazine butA great magazine to read but the digital version for the phone is horrible. You can't adjust the pages in read mode which is very unpleasant..Version: 4.9.5

Open Source Read only for 30 daysSo a magazine promoting the benefits of open source software. Yet, it is a paid subscription. Moved on..Version: 5.2.3

Takes your money, and your magazine too!Be very wary of subscribing to this online. To date i have paid $15 for two issues of this magazine and still only have access to one free download issue. Expensive, frustrating and potentially useless app. Having been a long time subscriber of the hard copy version of this mag, thought an iPad version was a great idea as I could carry copies of the magazine around with me. Wrong! Having purchased one magazine, it disappeared from my library when I upgraded to IOS5. I wrote to the supplier who informed me that if I clicked BUY it would recognize that I had already purchased, but they had made the issue I had already purchased a free download for anyone, so I could get it anyway (they could at least have offered me another edition to compensate). Assuming it was just an initial glitch of the IOS5 update, I then decided to purchase another issue which worked okay and appeared in my library. However two days later with no upgrades to IOS, the paid for version once again disappeared. Clicking the BUY button invited me once again to part with my money. At the price these guys charge for each edition, seems like they have a great way of getting money from you without actually giving you anything in return! I am still waiting for the vendor to resolve this, but there response is slow to say the least..Version: 1.0

In app purchases!In app purchases!.Version: 3.7.2

The app is just a simple PDF viewerThe iPad subscription is relatively expensive given that the app itself is just a simple PDF viewer, more or less. I have seen other magazines and newspapers where the app is nice with various layout possibilities designed to fit the iPad tablet format. I am not paying a premium price to read a simple PDF-file..Version: 3.4.2
