Total Film Magazine for Negative User Reviews

Needs a total rethinkFirstly, i have no problem with the mag itself. Sadly this is nothing more than a PDF scan of the mag. This wouldn't be so bad if it was offered at a discount compared to the physical mag. But actually the offer inside the mag to subscribe to the physical mag is cheaper than subscribing to this electronic one. If you want to charge the same then produce a proper e-version. Decent navigation, multimedia, interactivity, etc. Then I would be happy to subscribe..Version: 1.0

Total Garbage more like itApp won't open. Immediately crashes. I can see the last article after double clicking home button but once app is selected it crashes..Version: 4.8

Sad :-(Unfortunately I am considering downloading Empire. I love Total Film however I am STILL being asked to pay for the new issue every month (even though I have a subscription). The only way around this is to delete the app and then download the new issue and every old issue which is VERY time consuming. I hope this can be sorted out ASAP otherwise.....bye!.Version: 3.8.1

Too slowTakes +24 hours to download one magazine. Not good..Version: 3.1.8

Problems with App - but contentI'm not an idiot and expected to pay for content - but downloads often fail and even though it says you will not be charged again, I have paid twice for a couple of editions - as one of those was a bargain at 69p for the content, it was not worthwhile to bother complaining - the content was easily worth the double price I paid! If it worked better I would give it more stars...Version: 1.2

Problems!I thoroughly enjoyed this magazine app until the most recent update. Now there is no store to purchase issues and I cannot access my previously purchased issues!!!!.Version: 3.2.1

Do not waste your money. You have been warned.Like others, I purchased a year's subscription without hesitation. I downloaded my first two issues without any problems. However, I cannot read issue 205, as it is apparently "corrupted". The app advises that I re-download it and/or contact the publishers. I have downloaded the issue three times and it still won't open. I have contacted the publishers twice and they haven't bothered to reply to my emails. If you are a fan of Total Film, keep buying the hard copy and avoid this app as it is not fit for purpose. Have a look at the other reviews. Clearly, this is not an isolated case. I feel utterly cheated after having shelled out for a whole year's worth of issues in advance..Version: 3.1.6

HijackedLove Total Film. But having real trouble opening it since the arrival of Tech magazine, which has for some reason replaced my Total Film library with it's own introductory issue. Can't exit out and home just sends me to Tech home.. Bit annoying.Version: 2.2.5

All magazines downloaded are corruptedReally unimpressed. All the magazines I've tried downloading have been corrupted and unreadable. I'd like my money back please!.Version: 3.1.5

Most unreliable app ever!Love the magazine. Have for years. But this app, of many e-mags I subscribe to, is simply the most frustratingly unreliable apps I have the misfortune of using. If you want a digital film mag, get Total Film in print, if you want to read it digitally try elsewhere since actually being able to read the magazine isn't something this app allows...well not in one relaxing trouble-free sitting...you'll read half an article then crash it's frozen, reset...try to reload and same again. Time to delete the app, reinstall then sit for half hour while you have to re-download all your issues again. Then maybe just maybe you can read the other half...or maybe not. Total Crap...more apt title for this app..Version: 3.8.3

Which version of this app is still working? The latest update is a total nightmare. I can't log in into the magazine app any more. Will not renew!.Version: 3.1.4

Poor effortThis might well be a great magazine in print but the iPad version is terrible. Just a scan of the pages and nothing more. You should have a look at the Red Bull magazine for some ideas on how you could do this magazine better..Version: 1.8

No bookmarkNice and clean app, but would be nice if it had a bookmark as whenever I go away from the magazine page I'm reading and play around with other apps and then come back to it later, it doesn't seem to remember which page I was on so have to skim through till I get to the right page. Next update, include a bookmark plz.Version: 1.0

VERY GlitchyCrashes at least once a week and often requires me to re-download issues are I sync--a process that is VERY slow and cannot be done in the background (in other words, if you close the app, it stops downloading issues). Good magazine and I don't mind paying, but this one doesn't work. UPDATE: I have written to the developers twice, but NO reply and NO REFUND of my subscription. This is a complete and total rip-off and I will be contacting my credit card company to reverse the charge. BUYER BEWARE!!!.Version: 1.0

WorldHave been reading this magazine for over a decade and think it's the best one on the market. But this app is in a league of its own as a source of constant frustration - downloading the magazine is laughably slow, content gets dropped for now reason, if your memory on the Ipad is low, the app will helpfully dump all issues, the percentage indicator for downloading will inexplicably jump back to the beginning, etc. I spend more time downloading than actually reading. I have never regretted a magazine description as much as this one. Which is crazy, since the content is great. Avoid like the plague, go to the shop and buy a physical copy..Version: 2.0.2

Review of Total Film AppCan't download the issues but issues which I have previously downloaded are great. Don't buy any issues until they do an update for big fixes. But once they have done that I strongly recommend it..Version: 3.1.8

Simply put...doesn't work. It's a shame when something seemingly straightforward should be so complicated. After numerous attempts to download a magazine after purchase, no such luck. Online support, whilst appreciated, failed to fix the problem. Until these issues are fixed, avoid this app like the plague..Version: 3.1.6

Bait and switch don't downloadWell, you know, they give you a 'newstand' for magazines, and I'm guessing all the 'free' mags to try this are all not real, you don't get a magazine to examine, you get a screen allowing you the privilege of buying one of the magazines for about five bucks. So basically the free magazine list is a lie. So don't waste your time. FYI.Version: 1.0

Clunky, not optimized for tablet use - avoidWhat a disappointing app for a magazine in the business of audio visual entertainment. The Total Film app is nothing more than a high definition PDF that needs to refocus every time the reader changes a page or even moves around on a single page. This app takes no advantage of the opportunities offered by the iPad in the way that dedicated, fully function magazine apps do. Golf Digest, for one, is designed for the iPad and provides videos, teaching visuals that the reader can control, outside links, and the great navigation system found on many dedicated iPad magazine apps including the New Yorker. I'm glad that I bought a single issue rather than the subscription since it is so cumbersome to read on an iPad. Avoid until the magazine wakes up. Separately, how about offering Empire Magazine in the US store as well. Would like to give that one a try..Version: 1.9

Subscription not restoringMy iTunes subscription does not restore after updating the app. Have tried restoring several times and nothing. I have contacted them and had no response in how to rectify this, not happy! Have now been unable to download October and November issues, which I’ve paid for!!.Version: 5.0.1

Font size is too small nowNot sure when this update occurred but the font of the magazine text is way too small now. You have to zoom in to read it comfortably whereas before it was unnecessary..Version: 4.4

If only it was possible to give zero stars...I've bought almost every issue since it started, but since subscribing to the digital version I don't look forward to Total Film at all. I set the latest issue downloading last night & it's still only on 41%. It's the same speed every month. Pathetic. I wont be renewing the subscription. I'll just stick to the far superior Empire instead..Version: 3.2.2

Unbelievably terrible!!!In app downloads are incredibly slow, the worst I've ever seen in an app. Do not waste your time and money on this f$&king time vampire!!!.Version: 3.2.2

Good app but there are some problemsImpressed with the magazine but there are some issues with the app itself. Newsstand is saying that I have an outstanding download but when I look in the app there isn't one. I deleted the app to see if the notification issue would rectify itself but it has remained. Also upon reinstalling the app the previous issues i purchased are no longer available and will not restore so I will need to purchase them again..Version: 1.0

Garbage appMagazine might be great but I wouldn't know because I refuse to pay twice for one issue to get it to download. If the devs spent half as much energy on making a functional app as they did on promotions, nag screens and assaulting the user with pop ups and interstitial junk, they might have created something worth using. I have never encountered greater friction in on-boarding. Idiocy. Don't give these people your money. Thanks for constantly harassing me to review your app. It's the one prompt I heeded..Version: 4.2.1

Great magazine....when the app worksI am confused. Do you guys test the app fully before releasing it? I buy this magazine with my own money but I can not even read half of it as the app keeps crashing on me. This is a great magazine and I don't want to go back to buying the print version. PLEASE FIX IT!!! People pay money for this with the simple objective of it working properly. Not much to ask.Version: 3.8.3

Ugh! What an eyesore! Why do iPad magazines not realise that just because you CAN have flashing logos and stupid popups everywhere doesn't mean you SHOULD! Every article (even the long ones) are on a single page and smothered in buttons and frames that make the whole thing look like a bad night in Atlantic City! Seriously, look at what other magazines are doing (Vogue, Wired etc). They may not have as many flashy buttons but at least you can read them!.Version: 1.9.3

What the.....New version seems to have lost all previously downloaded subscriptions?...please fix......Version: 3.1.3

Terrible/waste of timeThis app is tetrible there are so many reason why and im too lazy to explain but alls i can say is its terrible a fricken time waster and stupid.Version: 3.4.4

FilmThe App is free, but from then on you must pay a weekly, monthly subscription - it is a deceptive way to get your dollars. Come Film mag be straight up!!!.Version: 1.8

Bookmarks not workingBy the way while I'm bothering with a review, the content is still great, but I do miss the interactive version of the magazine, and I do not care for the way the change was handled..Version: 4.9.4

Just the print versionDoesn't really take advantage of iPad possibilities, no video or interactivity but still an ok movie mag I suppose.Version: 1.0

Appalling ServiceIssues haven't downloaded in weeks. Going to ask for a refund. AVOID..Version: 3.7.2

Its not free!If you have to buy issues then it isn't free..Version: 1.0

Corrupt issue!!!I love Total Film - I think you're the best movie mag out there (I buy Empire too but your mag is far superior), but having just waited half an hour, and parted with my £1.99 in the process, I've been greeted with a message saying my issue is corrupt and can't be read. I'm gutted and annoyed - how are you going to remedy this? Unfortunately otherwise you would've just lost a big fan and avid reader :(.Version: 2.0

The Waterworld of digital magazinesClunky, slow to download, unresponsive, no support, rubbish!~.Version: 3.6

No access after 3.1.4 updateThe app no longer lets me bring up my magazines - it hangs on the splash page for about 45 seconds, then drops back to IPad desktop..Version: 3.1.4

WorthlessThe content for Total Film is great, it's why I like the magazine. This app is so choppy & aggravating; no excuse for it. Doesn't download correctly, or takes forever & then has glitches with ability to read..Version: 3.4.4

Poor and rip offPurchased a magazine and although it charged me $11.99, it wouldn’t download saying there was an error. I contacted Apple and they said to contact the publisher. I sent 3 emails with no reply and 3 tweets with no reply. Be VERY wary of purchasing with this publisher..Version: 5.6.3

CrapI paid for the year subscription and every time I open the app it says "Failure to open store. Please try again." I want my money back..Version: 2.1

DisappointedHave tried downloading the feb 2013 magazine, my account has been credited yet the purchase refuses to download! The screen dims with a loading pin wheel and simply says 'waiting' every time I attempt to download. It's a shame as I would very much like to use this app and read the magazine but I am very unhappy with this problem. Having followed all of the help advice to resolve this in the app already, if my issue does not download on my next couple of attempts I will be wanting my money back!.Version: 2.2.5

OK content let down by a poorly made appThe app is very poorly designed. Large (and slow) downloads of issues that often don't work and can't seem to run in the background. Bizarre/lazy design decisions with uncomfortably small areas of text that scroll independently. The library/store UI isn't much better. Sadly true of most Future newsstand apps..Version: 3.6

Free subscription? Was charged $2.19 immediately when it said Free and to cancel the further automatic debits which all costs, is impossible. Very dishonest..Version: 2.2.5

Disappointing download time!I have been an avid reader of Total Film for years and having subscribed to other magazines on the iPad, thought it was time to give it a go. The magazine itself is great, as always, but the download times are ridiculous. It's done about 27% in 2 hours with a really good connection. Please, app dudes, sort this out. People are obviously disappointed and will start vote with their feet. Great magazine, shocking download time..Version: 2.0

GarbageI bought this a year ago and when my renewal email came last week this was the easiest subscription to let expire. Out of the whole year I had this I was only able to download 3 issues. Every time I would download the latest issues it would quit halfway over "connection issues” and I can download a whole episode of an hour long tv show in 10min but it takes a dozen tries over a few days to download a magazine issue? The Magazine is pretty cool but I’d get the print version. This Digital one is a complete waste.Version: 3.6

Be careful before buying a lengthy subscriptionThe publisher of this magazine also published Nintendo Gamer, which was cancelled part way through a 12 month subscription. This publisher claims that iTunes will refund the outstanding subscription but iTunes won't. Publisher is not answering emails to its support address. Subscribe with caution..Version: 2.1

Great magazine. Atrocious download timeSorry to say but I use empire on my iPad as well and if I have to choose between the two it would be empire because it downloads in a matter of minutes. I have been waiting over an hour now for the newest issue of total film downloading.........not everyone has fibreoptic broadband you know guys........I'm away to read empire now.Version: 1.9.3

DisappointedTotal Film! I absolutely love your magazine! I buy it every month without fail. But your apps are terrible! I've bought the last 6 iPhone editions and download times have gotten steadily worse! I can't even read the latest issue as its "iPad only"???!!! Your other app is ok but when you write "check out the trailer below" there is nothing! I then have to go on your twitter account to see what should be on the app!! I probably won't stop buying your magazine but I think I shall revert back to the paper editions. Please regain my faith!!.Version: 2.0

Utter crapI was quite excited about the possibilities of Newsstand after the standard that was set by the multimedia experience of the excellent Empire magazine. But then we get crap like Total Film and most the the "digital magazines" which are simply PDF scans of the physical copy. AND it costs the same, if not MORE for a subscription. If the publishers are really that stupid then let the industry die. Hopefully make way for some true innovations..Version: 1.0

Angry! The mag is very good. Previous reviews have stated its just a PDF of the mag. It isn't. There is some excellent content My issue is with the fact that you can't see where you stand with your subs (has it finished?) and the fact that previously read editions are now trying to charge me £1.99 to down load again. I've already paid of them!! I've tried several times to report the problem but just get an email back saying their inbox is full. This is the first mag sub I've purchased on the iPad and it looks like I won't be buying another if this is anything to go by.Version: 3.4.4

Free... Sure and I'm the Dalai LamaThe app is free, the issues are not. They offer a "free subscription" but that just means you get your first two issues free when you pay for a regular subscription. Weak!.Version: 3.1.6

Commercials and Spiderman.Open newest issue yesterday to read and was hit with a commercial. I paid to subscribe and I have to watch a stupid commercial? No thanks. And 3 of the last 6 or 7 issues have has Spiderman on the cover. Slow news year? I have cancelled my auto-renew..Version: 3.6.5

Awful Customer Service.Having been a print subscriber for over ten years I can say hand on heart that I like the magazine. However- I bought an issue on Newstand, then a few days later had my iPad replaced by Apple (the screen was faulty). When I tried reading the magazine it said to pay again. Not a problem, I thought, there is a restore purchases button. Tried the restore- it does NOT work. I have sent repeated emails and had not a single response. Therefore I would strongly recommend avoiding this unless you want to risk losing your money. I will be pursuing the payment loss from Apple and my credit card company. It is disgraceful that Future do not respond to emails and sort the problems out. I will be sticking with Empire from now on- they at least respond to emails... Save your money, go elsewhere....Version: 1.0

No free trial, garbage and scamDo not waste time on this app, developer lure users by free trial which does not exist. But since you downloaded it you paid it, because developer uses number of downloads app in its profit, and you can not delete this app from your downloads..Version: 3.8.1

Really terrible in recent monthsThe server keeps failing so you lose all the issues you have paid for. I have been a subscriber for several years but am now cancelling given these persistent problems. Same problem with the SFX app. Very disappointing..Version: 5.6.3

Very disappointingI'm a Total Film reader and was keen on trying out the app too. Unfortunately, this app simply doesn't work. It's impossible to download issues - the app just freezes and issues are stuck in a processing mode forever.I've tried it with different WiFi networks, two different iPads, to no avail. It's a real shame, I've been really looking to high-res pictures..Version: 3.4.4

BadYou get it thinking you can read it for free but you have to buy the article.Version: 1.2

Beware amount of downloadThis app cost me hundreds in excess download fees as it doesn't list anywhere how much each magazine is and it added a number of requests that I did not ask for. Buyer beware..Version: 3.1.5

Nice ideaBut you would think the prices would be much lower considering there is no overhead for printing or mailing..Version: 1.0

3 days and still won't openI'd love to tell you what the magazine's like, but after 3 days of trying to download & open it, it still won't open. It's sitting there at "Queued". It's one of those silly magazine apps that requires you to keep the iPad awake with the app in the foreground before it will even attempt to download, so not only can you not do anything else while it downloads, but you have to watch the proverbial paint dry..Version: 3.6.5

AwfulIn fact beyond awful. Subscribed and two days later its downloaded 23%. Followed what little of a help procedure there was and it just got rid of all of it. No reply from support after sending log. How are they allowed to get away with it?! If an app is broken shut it down. Stick to paper copy or even better switch to Empire as I will as this is nothing short of robbery.Version: 3.1.3

Annoying"You are already subscribed thank you" great but where's the magazine then? Oh.. Look it's there asking for you to pay again ! Have rebooted , reinstalled, re down loaded etc and still nothing . Surely this should be easy to boot up the app and have the magazine you have paid for available without the palaver. Shame because the one issue i do have I enjoyed and found to be well presented. Will cancel subscription..Version: 3.6

Great content, horrible app.Total film is great, period. Yet the app is poorly designed and buggy (some issues may be Apple's fault). Downloads take ages and are unreliable, the app crashes regularly. For some reason they insist on a style where the text is in a tiny box at the bottom with a huge picture above. Instead of scrolling across the whole screen the text remains limited which is very frustrating..Version: 3.4.4

Not freeThis app will take you to a subscription screen. It is stated you may purchase a single digital issue, or a subscription. It should also be noted that the terms & conditions, and Privacy Policy are only available online, meaning you have to have wi-fi to access them..Version: 1.0

Gone backwardsUsed to be a great interactive mag but the last 3 months they have just gone back to being a basic PDF style mag which is not what I am expecting. Poor show and not as good as the interactive digital version that Empire magazine produce..Version: 5.2.3

Charged twiceI subscribed for 6 months then was charged again for the December issue. I emailed and haven't gotten a response. I want my money back!.Version: 1.0

And 2 hours later it's still downloadingI probably could've gone to the shops and bought an actual copy 6 times over in the amount of time it takes to download any of these magazine apps.Version: 1.9.3

All Future subs inaccessibleMy Prog, Total Film and SFX subscriptions have disappeared since the last iOS update..Version: 3.8.1

Great interactive app, butThe interactive iPad version is great, compared to the basic page scanned version on the iPhone. Big BUT though, is that there appears to be a lot of content missing from the interactive version, book, games, music reviews etc. I've paid for it, where is it?.Version: 2.0

Why did we need Newsstand again? This is all just a total scam! You can't search for free magazines in the App Store, because they're all free (to download, not subscribe). What was wrong with having magazines in iBooks, or with their own apps like The Daily. Now I have this worthless icon that I can't delete and I can't even merge into another group. I HATE Newsstand!!!.Version: 1.0

Disappointed...I have a lowly iPad 1st Gen, and it seems that your mag is too exciting for me. It crashes repeatedly and after being a fan of your print edition for many years, after a break thought I'd get back into it by buying the digital version. But no, you just lost a subscription through an unreliable product, perhaps I'll try the Empire version…(I always preferred TF to Empire but I need something I can actually read….).Version: 3.2.2

Worthless rubbishThis is the first time I've been compelled to write a negative review and am doing so in the hope that the devs at whatever company released this mess see the ratings and do something about it. A truly pitiful app. I downloaded it four days ago, bought one issue and this morning there was still 11% left to download (all on home fast broadband)! When it finally downloaded I tried to open it and it started downloading again. Anyone who doesn't have problems with this app is a lucky one, and I reckon Total Film are banking on people not being bothered to reclaim their £1.49 when they've tried downloading for the fifth time, but I say COME ON, reclaim it and let them know it's a poor excuse for an app and they need to do something about it. If you haven't downloaded it yet, don't bother..Version: 3.1.6

UnhappyI use my iPad as a stand alone device, total film was loaded on my ipad for nearly a year, no problems, but since the upgrade to iOS5 the latest magazine won't open. I deleted the app and tried to reload the app but a message says I need iOS5 on the pad before I can download the app, as I only have the pad I can't, and now have lost all magazines. Don't waste your money on this app buy the Zinio app instead each magazine downloads for about 50mbs..Version: 2.1

Can't download purchased item24 hours after buying magazine download is only at 36%. Have deleted and reinstalled app as suggested in help guide but still nothing. Very frustrating. I might as well have thrown my money out my car window..Version: 3.1.6

Repeated downloadingA great disappointment. I hardly do reviews. This one is necessary. Pain point is that i continually need to download the issues that were downloaded a million times before into my library. Every time I check my library, it is always empty. I should have read the reviews. Great content but the app is, to say the least, well below average and needs major improvements..Version: 4.9.4
