Terrible Business Model AppThese guys have several magazines they are hosting thru this trash app. There's simply no excuse for the app doing what it's doing. This thing needs a refresh badly. The content is there, the delivery is highly questionable and aggravating. I refuse to believe they do not have the resources to fix what is broken..Version: 4.7.0

Not impressedThe issues I have purchased have vanished! Not impressed, and not buying them again..Version: 4.5.5

STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS ONEUpdating caused all of my purchases to be lost!.Version: 4.5.5

No Free Preview IssueIf you just want to check out the UI and see what you can buy, then you'll love this!.Version: 2.2

Does Not WorkSo what is the point of a magazine app that won’t let you download a magazine? When you start this up it offers you a free trial - you can choose a month, quarter or yearly sub to access the magazine, whatever you tap elicits the same “cannot connect to the App Store” message - totally useless! I want to read the magazine! I want to subscribe! But you won’t let me - very annoying....Version: 5.1

CrashingFor some reason this app seems to crash ( running on IPad 2, IOS Ver 5.1 ) and i have to re- download purchased mags every time i open it, please sort as i love the retro scene, and this is a great mag, but unreadable with this current version of the app :-(.Version: 2.4.3

This APP will delete all your magazines frequentlyBe warned, this happened to me numerous times, I lost all my purchased magazines ( 13 issues ) after leaving my ipad2 in sleep mode for several hours ( less than a day ). I won't buy anything from them until they fix this fatal bug !!.Version: 2.5.1

Great magazine. Bad appI love the content but would be happier if it was in a better made app.Version: 5.6.3

Over charged then zero customer support.uncontactable.DodgyI was offered a supposed discount of approx $80 to have all the back issues, which I bought. Then a day or 2 later they offered again the whole back issue for approx $12 . I’m unemployed have less money and given the close proximity of the 2 offers emailed them if they could just refund the difference. And hoped they would do that in good faith. I was completely ignored. And approx 4 weeks and counting have passed. Thanks Retro gamer for ripping me off then ignoring me,great company you run there.Others be warned..Version: 5.6.3

One star because can't give 0Updated and now it doesn't work. Crashes as soon as it launches, obviously not been tested. Can't believe that any dimwit would let this out in this state..Version: 2.5.4

Great magazine, but the app …The issue downloads are a needlessly huge. Please offer smaller downloads so I can have more issues on my iPad at once..Version: 6.0.16

Great magazine, awful appSince they updated the app, I'm not able to use itunes credits to buy magazines ( the app simply says there is not enough credits even if there is plenty ). Really do not recommend this one. It's a shame, the magazine itself is great and does not deserve this awful app..Version: 5.1

Great mag, Poor AppGreat mag let down by poor app and digital versions. In a bid to get rid of back issues cluttering the house downloaded all back issues as part of a Black Friday deal....app now takes an age to load or refuses to load at all. After a couple of reinstalls..had to delete files..which means I now need to download any back issues if I want to browse them again. Poor app optimisation. Also the digital issues would benefit from some form of multimedia links to videos, websites etc..(Empire mag is great in this respect..although admittedly has a wider audience)...otherwise digital copy just glorified PDF’s......back to the clutter I suppose....Version: 5.2.3

Please update for iPad mini 6This app does have its issues mostly down to the way apple handles purchases etc but it’s main problem is lack of support for the iPad mini 6 I enjoy reading on the tablet and it’s frustrating that this app doesn’t utilise the full vertical resolution of the device !!!.Version: 6.0.16

Unresolutionary :(All of the pixelmags magazines are meant to be updating to be iPad 3 retina friendly - however buying a magazine today it's still really pixelated and the file sizes are prohibitive to buying many magazines. Hope when a solution does get implemented this applies to back issues too! The app is also very pixelated- not very resolutionary pixel mags :(.Version: 2.5

Fix your apps Imagine!Completely broken, crashes on start up. Been that way for well over a month. Same with all apps from Imagine Publishing. Can't read any of the magazines I have purchased. Been supporting this magazine for about a year, but apparently the developers can't even be arsed to fix the app. Cheers.Version: 2.5.4

Great mag, but horribly broken appBought a year’s subscription in June; despite that, new issues stopped being downloadable after September- instead, they show the purchase price of buying the issue individually, which rather goes against the whole point of purchasing a year’s subscription, doesn’t it? I knew what I was getting into, though, having read the other reviews dating back two years, I just wish terrible business practices weren’t so commonplace these days; the magazine itself is great, but the online publisher should be ashamed of themselves for stealing money from consumers..Version: 5.1

Black Screen!Big mistake updating on my ipad 2, now I can't view any of my purchasers. Lol. Big con.... Stick with the real mag..Version: 2.5.8

App locks up and crashes.I purchased and downloaded all the back issues and now all I see are two busy icons when I launch this crappy joke of an app. If I minimize the app then bring back to front, then the app usually crashes. It has been like this for months. I am using the latest iPad Pro. Obviously I am unable to be read the content I have purchased. No excuse for this..Version: 5.2.3

Does not always show latest issueBuggy. Does not always show latest issue. Often forces me to restore purchases. Annoying. Mag itself is ok but too many interviews with obscure developers on useless things..Version: 4.7.0

Awesome magazine. Lousy appI love love love Retro Gamer the magazine- by all means read it! But the app is INCREDIBLY SLOW and doesn't save your progress within a magazine so every single time you want to use it you have to wait a ridiculously long time for it to load and then find your place within the magazine all over again. Buy the printed magazine by all means, but avoid the app until these issues are fixed..Version: 4.7.0

Needs text view like ZINIOOn zinio I can view the text and images from a page in free flow. Better for smaller screens than the print format. Please include this. Several months later. Still not as good as ZINIO for iPhone. Shame as older back issues and deals available here..Version: 5.2.3

DO NOT BUY AS YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR PURCHASESThis app is a disgrace. Despite tons of hollow promises I can not restore my purchases and this has been going on for over a year. I'm now going to demand a refund and I have spent in excess of £30 on issues. I now by the mag in paper form again as I no longer trust digital distribution. Shame on you Apple for allowing developers to get away with what is essentially theft..Version: 4.7.0

Please allow library access without online connectionTwice now a bug has occurred where the app locks up trying to access the store and so I can’t access my library. I’m then forced to delete the app reinstall and redownload load all my issues. It just happened a third time prompting me to write this review. If you remove the need to access the store and allow me to just read my issues I’ve paid for I’ll change my star rating, which reflects the app and not the magazine itself, which is good..Version: 5.2.3

So slow…….This is an excellent magazine for the enthusiast. has many excellent articles each month AND occasionally they release Annuals . HOWEVER…this app is just tooo slow. i have an iPad air 4 and this app takes forever to open. even if the app is running in the background and you reopen it……takes forever. theres to much going on. it needs to be simplified so the basics open and you can get to your magazine. an app like zinio opens quick and downloaded magazines open quickly with out the need to make a hot drink while it thinks about it. at times when its thinking about open and looks like its loading something all i get is an error code (no products found. error 442345) and “retry”? i honestly rate the magazine 5/5 but this app needs a lot of work so 3/5!.Version: 6.0.16

Great magazine... Mediocre appThe magazine itself is really good. Well researched articles with depth. However, the app is buggy. It will not restore previous purchases despite having an option to do that. They don't see to be in much of a hurry to update it and fix the bugs either..Version: 4.5.5

So slow to openRidiculously slow to open the app. Every time you open the app you have to wait 5 minutes for it to open!!.Version: 5.6.3

Completely brokenWill not restore purchases on my iPad. Can't access 2+ years of subscription issues. And MONTHS with no fix?.Version: 4.0

Ugh, awful interstitial advertsI don't mind the print ads in a magazine, they generally look great, and are aimed at the readers, but the latest update has added terrible 'interactive' full page ads. The usual dross served up by a third party ad provider Future Publishing probably doesn't even know what's in them. Even though you can swipe past them quickly before they load, it breaks up the flow of reading and they look completely out of place. Pretty poor show for something I've already paid a years subscription for, ads for a church are the last thing I need in a retro video game magazine..Version: 2.4.3

Ok when it works.Great read of all things retro gaming. But? App constantly freezes when reading or just refuses to work,if staring at a loading circle is your jam then this app is perfect..Version: 5.6.3

Stop with the updatesEverytime this app gets updated, i am forced to redownload all of the magazines i purchased. A few gigs of download everytime and it always ends up crashing during the download process and then restarts part of the download. Is is really ridiculous, seriously stop with the updates if you cant do it right. Yur magazine is great, bup this app is bad.Version: 2.4.3

App not fit for purposeMagazine is 5 stars but let down by this clumsy slow and buggy app!!.Version: 5.6.3

Where are my magazines?Purchased a number of issues a while back and now can't restore them. Just get a message to enter my iTunes password (which I do) and then... nothing. App experience is typical mag > digi mag format, ie: you zoom into a large image. There is a delay as each image loads in which is a bit nasty..Version: 4.0

TerribleThis app was always buggy and would fail to open at least 1 time in 4, but since the update I can't open it at all. Did nobody bother to test this? Until they fix this sorry mess, avoid..Version: 2.2.6

BrokenAfter updating to version 4.0 all previously downloaded issues are wiped and previous purchases will not restore. Reverted to the previous version and everything works as before..Version: 4.0

I love Retro Gamer but the app killed itMy favorite magazine ever. Unfortunately the experience is garbage. I bought the deal to get all of the back issues. I downloaded some of them. I went back to the app a day later and it just spins on loading the store and is completely frozen. This is garbage. I wasted my money on the deal because I can't use the app to read them. Complete trash..Version: 5.1

Just kinda weirdThe app is not as functional as it should be. It’s not like reading a digital book on a Kindle app, it is more like a scanned version of a print copy. Not practical as you must make an effort to zoom in and out of each page so that you can read the font. I cannot recommend this app.Version: 6.0.16

Wow, new app is really spammy and tackyLots of attempts to up-sell me to unrelated digital magazines. Not appreciated. I hope the core value is still here..Version: 5.1

Other reviews are true. Broken app.Tried 3 different iOS devices. Can't download previously purchased issues..Version: 4.0

Great magazine but a terrible appFirst off the two stars is because the app is so bloody slow to load you library, the magazine is great and I always look forward to the next issue. The app wasn’t that big a problem as you could always copy the magazine off your iPad and read them on my computer but now they are encrypted so I can’t do it that way. Just to give you an idea, it takes close to 5 minutes for my library to load (I have every issue) and this is on a 2018 iPad So in short great read, terrible app.Version: 5.2.3

Great magazine, app needs helpLatest version still doesn't support the large screen iPad Pro. At least downloads seem to work now. It's difficult to turn pages, though..Version: 5.1

Ripped Off!!!STILL NO UPDATE - I feel like I've been ripped off!!! Lose another star!!! The app currently will not restore my purchases. No reading my back issues for me then until this is fixed :(.Version: 4.0

Horrible appThis app is fundamentally broken. It constantly refuses to load the storefront which prevents you accessing the magazines you’ve paid for. I normally read Retro Gamer using the Pocketmags app which is flawless, but I bought a back issues bundle on this app when a deal came up. I’ve now been charged £23 for magazines I can’t read. This app should be removed from the App Store and everyone who has made purchases on it refunded..Version: 6.0.16

TreacleWith every new update, Pixel Mags seem to be unable to fix the basic problem with their apps; they seem to have developed the slowest e-reader on the planet. Turn a page, wait a second, a pixelly page appears, wait a second, the page pops full resolution. It's appalling, and I'll never buy a magazine fronted with this limp technology. Zinio is about 1000x better..Version: 2.2

MisleadingThis app doesn't do anything except ask you for money. So the 'free' label is misleading and dishonest. Don't waste your time with this!.Version: 2.5.8

Crashes, won't connect to store, can't access purchased contentDear developer, Can I have a refund on all of my purchases because this app is broken. - It crashes - It won't connect to the store - I can't access my library (AKA content I've already purchased). Unless of course I've misunderstood and "Buy" actually means "Rent", in which case, congratulations because you suckered me good. I would rate zero stars, but one is the minimum. App Store users: DO NOT BUY CONTENT FROM THIS APP!!!.Version: 4.7.0

Doesn’t fully support 12.9” iPadIt doesn’t fully utilize the 12.9” iPad which is disappointing for a magazine app. This makes the app look slightly fuzzy..Version: 5.1

Won't downloadPaid for the magazine as I wanted to see about a more lengthy subscription however the downloading bar never goes up and just keeps telling me to reinstall the app which then doesn't download the issue I bought. Not impressed please fix.Version: 4.5.5

Lost a ton of purchased issues with the updated appI LOVE this magazine. I've been a subscriber for over four years and purchased A TON of back issues; seriously hundreds spent on back issues. Unfortunately, with the new app update, nearly every issue I purchased outside of my subscription is now not available, as if I never purchased it. I've emailed the publisher five times in the two weeks and haven't gotten ANY response outside of the automated email. If you ever worry about buying issues that somehow you might be forced to repurchase in the future, DO NOT BUY FROM THIS PUBLISHER, because that's exactly what's happened to me..Version: 5.1

Still broken. Do not upgrade!Restore purchases feature is still broken. :(.Version: 4.5.5

Good mag, abysmal appThe content is fine, but the app, which is simply a PDF viewer, is truly terrible. Unless you have a large iPad you'll be pinching and zooming continually to read the small text, and worse, the app has a fatal flaw which prevents it from ever showing the latest issue. To force it to show new content requires a complete reinstall, EVERY SINGLE MONTH. This bug has been present for a good while now but despite repeated emails to support, remains unfixed..Version: 5.2.3

Why does it take so long to open?I have downloaded over 100 to my iPad's storage, so why do I have to wait 4 minutes sometimes just to read the ones I have. The app takes too long to connect to your servers or time out or something. Fix it. I have a solid wifi signal and 100Mbps internet. No excuse!.Version: 5.2.3

Stick with the print version. This app has been a nightmare. Over a year ago, they sent out a update which prevented many users, me included, from accessing their previously purchased content. It also, like every other update, erased everything already downloaded, meaning you had no choice but to download everything again. Over a year later, they send out a code to supposedly restore those purchases. After finally getting the code, which I had to email customer service for, I'm still missing over a year's worth of purchases. Luckily, I have receipts, which I've emailed them twice, to no avail. I've just about given up because I don't know what else I can do. It's infuriating to have to write off $60+ of purchases, but it seems as far as they are concerned the matter is settled. I guess I should be thankful that I finally have access to some of my purchases again, even if it took them over a year to make that happen. Still, I can't express the frustration and disappointment I've had with this app. I'm extremely leery of updating this app ever again now that it's somewhat working, but needless to say I won't be renewing when my subscription runs out and I'd encourage anyone thinking of going in Retro Gamer to steer clear of this digital version..Version: 4.6.1

The magazine is great, the app is terribleI subscribed a few months ago and ended up buying the back catalogue of issues and enjoyed reading them until I’d discovered some of the apps quirks: no reading issues offline, no reading issues until the publishers store loads, the publishers store won’t always load, loading the publishers store often causes the app to crash. It is at a point where I can longer read the magazines, instead I watch the app load and then crash out. Don’t download this app, if you want to read Retro Gamer, get the physical subscription..Version: 5.2.3

Great mag, terrible appFuture, this app is terrible. The subscription models just don’t work. Even the help pages make no sense at all. You spam me with SALE ads daily even though I’ve already bought and can’t download the back catalogue. The user interface is shocking. Really disappointed in this app, get some new developers and sort it out!.Version: 6.0.16

Great idea ruined by poor appWhile it’s great to have all the issues of retro gamer in one place, purchasing them is not straightforward. I purchased an issue that was previously a sample and the full version would not appear in my library. Deleting and reinstalling meant I had no choice to purchase it again. So I tried to delete the app and reinstall it and can’t even use it as there is an error message. Now all my downloads are lost. Very disappointing.Version: 6.0.16

Update stinksI wanted to grab a new magazine before I went somewhere where I'd have to be waiting around and the store wouldn't load, so I updated. Big mistake, the update removed all my currently downloaded magazines and app restore isn't giving them all back. Plus I'm running out of time before I have to leave so I'm not going to have any to read. Hard not to be angry over this..Version: 5.1

Subscription through iTunes is frequently not recognizedIt frequently disregards your subscription through iTunes. I’ve tried using the restore function and it doesn’t work..Version: 6.0.16

Don't do itNot even a old issue for one to test app, now uninstalled and after reading other reviews I'm not paying £2.99 to see if it still has the same problems. After loosing lots of money with the previous owners of retro gamer I'm not paying to basically loose my money again..Version: 2.5

ArghhhWhat have you done?! Supposed to be retina display on iPad. Has actually made illegible!!!.Version: 2.5

Great magazine, broken appThis is a review of the app, not the mag: broken and a ripoff if you subscribed through it, as currently you're pretty much incapable of doing anything with it..Version: 4.0

Too expensiveThe magazine is great, but $5 for old issues? Way too expensive. Although do an issue on Cinemaware and I'll buy it for sure. Especially with the Wings Directors Cut campaign on Kickstarter..Version: 2.5.5

Should be free for existing subscribersOf the print edition or at least discounted. I subscribe to RG and I live in the USA so it tends to take a very long time to reach me. It would be nice if I could read a bit of the iPOD version while waiting for the hardcopy to show up. I also think $5 is too much for any digital mag. Other than that I have nothing bad to say about RG. It's a fantastic magazine!! *** How about giving us a table of contents listing for free? At least that would make it worth keeping the app installed. Thanks..Version: 2.2.6

Broken, againThe app says it can't connect to the iTunes Store. Ok, so I can stream videos from Netflix and download new apps but you can't make an app that is basically a glorified PDF reader download a file. Fix it guys. This is sloppy..Version: 4.7.0

IPhone 5 not supported full screen!Retro gamer is amazing... Pixel mags on iPhone 5 is lazy.... iPhone 5 has been out for ages... If any developers are listening... Please take advantage of iPhone 5 larger screen... Reading mags was the main reason I wanted a bigger iPhone....Version: 2.5.8

Currently badly brokenI currently cannot read any of the magazines I've purchased and have been waiting more than two months to be able to do so. The makers of this app promised, some time ago, to fix it and haven't done so. What makes it worse is that you get no back-ups of your magazines to restore yourself so reading the issues you've bought without them fixing this app. I'll probably abandon this and look for another way to get the issues digitally. Who knows what I'll end up doing without this legal and convenient way to get Retro Gamer..Version: 4.0

The app does Not work.Downloaded the app. And also the pc gamer app. Purchased a few issues and nothing. Nothing in my library. But. Billed. They take your money but literally give you nothing in return. Going to escalate this Apple to try and have the app removed as it doesn’t do what it says it does. Don’t bother trying to restore purchases in the app. I’ve tried that off two IPads now and it doesn’t work..Version: 5.2.3

Love the magazine, but the app is subpar. There are several areas for improvement with the app, and I really hope the developers will address some of the many complaints over time. The performance is pretty terrible. The library section still has tons of screen space consumed by store, sub, and sign-in. There is a separate store section, so taking up real estate for the library view seems like overkill. There are so few options for organizing the library. Just adding the ability to manually adjust the order would be a huge plus. Anyway, I love the magazine enough to tolerate the issues with the application, but things good be so much better..Version: 5.6.3

Retro GamerThe previous update for this app prevented me from downloading the majority of my paid editions. With the new update there has been some improvement - however I am still missing a few editions. Why can they not resolve this once and for all?.Version: 4.6

It's ok.Would be better if they did a bundle of the back issues for a special price, especially ones going back over 10 years, or if you subscribe, you get the back issues from, for example, 2004-2014 free, instead of a measly 5 issues that's on offer now. Otherwise would be cheaper to buy a job lot of Your Sinclair magazines from your local car boot..Version: 4.7.0

Can't read any of the magazines I've paid forWanted to try and contact them before leaving a bad review, but after trying to figure out how to contact them I gave up. I've bought 2+ years of retrogamer from them, plus I'm still a current subscriber and I can't view any magazines since the upgrade. I've tried removing the app, reboot iPad, etc. When I try to do restore previous purchases it asks for my apple id, and then does nothing. So not only am I loosing money on my current subscription I've lost all access to previous purchases. Maybe sometimes paper is better? Please fix the app, or tell us how to get our mags..Version: 4.0
