Can’t purchase ...A friend recommended this newspaper. I downloaded the app. It won’t let me purchase anything - clearly a bug. I just want to try 1 issue, to test it, but there is no trial. I tried their website. If I want a trial, I have to sign up for the print edition and digital edition, but it won’t accept my payments - probably because I’m in NZ, but who knows? There’s a international, digital only, option. But you have to sign up for a year. I just want to try it and see if I like it. It a newspaper falls down in a forest, but no one can buy it, does it make a sound?.Version: 4.6.3

Buggy app, arrogant supportI have the latest version of the app on 3 different ipads. The layout of The Week app is fine on the older 2, but badly faulty on the most up-to-date of these iPads, the one I use most, a 2018 iPad Pro, which I keep up to date with the latest recommended stable releases of iOS. The Week app on this device makes most of the content difficult to find (the table of contents is incomplete, not showing subsections) and the content you can find, almost impossible to read (it stays in portrait mode, and automatically scrolls down the page, forcing you to stay there). I have tried to explain this to support, including sending them Screenshots as requested, (at least they did engage to begin with), but now they are simply saying to me "This is already fixed" which obviously shows how much they respect the experience and intelligence of readers telling them otherwise, as well as exposing their level of ability at testing and bug-fixing their app..Version: 4.6.3

Great magazine.... terrible appDoesn’t work on iPad in landscape mode. When reporting the bug they said they’d take it under consideration?!? What’s to consider... the app doesn’t work in landscape mode!.Version: 4.6

Great content but audio feature is terribleSo frustrating - I have to have my phone screen unlocked and on the same page in order to listen to the audio version, and even then it’s terrible quality and keeps skipping and getting stuck. Shame as I like to listen on the go and find the Economist app has a brilliant audio version with the whole magazine read aloud and has none of the same problems - take a lead out of their book and get it sorted before you lose subscribers!.Version: 4.5.8

Bad redesignThe new iPad version of the Week is difficult to use and makes the reading experience poor. I used to enjoy reading the week, but now I avoid it because of the poor reader experience..Version: 5.0

Don’t pay extra for digitalWhat’s the point if you can’t read anything online owing to a buggy app? Stuck on ‘processing’ without a hope of downloading beyond the front cover. Frustratingly it seems this is the sub-standard experience from many, yet, The Week are unable to fix this long standing issue. If you rely on the internet to remain current with the world, you will be left disappointed. Despite the excellent content, and it is good, I have no choice but to cancel my subscription and go elsewhere for current affairs. The print issue is good...if you carry are willing to carry a magazine with you to whip out when you get a spare 10 minutes..Version: 4.6.3

Great content, very poor appSimilar to other reviewers, I agree the new app update is horrible. The content menu on the left hand side was great. I never read front to back, I like to pick out certain sections of the magazine. Now I am forced to scroll through the entire magazine to reach the desired content. This is almost impossible on a mobile device as the thumbnails are so small it’s difficult to see what the page is. Please revert this back to the previous design. Also, I have been requesting a night mode for years, surely this is a simple fix, and will be greatly beneficial to other night readers. It amazes me how all this feedback goes unanswered in recent app updates, surely this comes up in focus groups and app design meetings..Version: 5.3

Brilliant content. TERRIBLE app (frustrating, buggy, generally awful)I can’t understand how the app has not been improved since it’s disastrous upgrade around 2 years ago. It continues to be littered with issues: - Downloading is patchy and flawed. - Night mode is fiddly and difficult to use (it is at least now available). - Menus are rendered pointless because you are forced to scroll through all content in any event. - The swipe functionality only works occasionally. - When reading the app no longer stops the phone going to sleep, so half way through reading an article the phone will go to standby. Issues can be forgiven on the release of a new version but what is so disappointing is that no effort in the last 18 months seems to have been made to resolve them (and the now countless reviews about them by loyal readers). PLEASE can you do something about it..Version: 5.1

Not working when I want itThe Week is a great magazine. I read it occasionally and buy it on an issue-by-issue basis through the app. However, the app is clunky. I tried to buy the latest issue today for the first time in a few months and the function did not work. I know it sounds silly but I had put some time aside to read it and was looking forward to it. Now I am a bit frustrated and a bit disappointed. If you make people feel like that when they make the effort to come into your shop, you cannot rely on repeat business..Version: 4.5.8

Amazing paper but they have ruined the appThis is a review of the app not the content (Which is its usual high standard). I’ve been a subscriber to the week for decades, the app used to be a solid and reliable alternative to the paper version, but they have destroyed it. Now very unreliable, there used to be a menu button so you can skip through the paper (I loved this as I don’t necessarily like to read the sections in order). Gone. Replaced with a scroll of the page images which takes an age to get through. You can forget customer service, I emailed them asking could they reinstate the menu function. They replied could I email their technical team, they even gave me the address! No response. If you are thinking of subscribing stick with the paper. I’m considering going back….Version: 5.4

Doesn’t work properly on iPad anymoreSince the last update it no longer downloads properly on iPad . It won’t load properly in landscape mode (or allow you to scroll), maps no longer download for the at a glance section and it often takes two goes to get it to download at all. Obviously forgot to test iPad before releasing it!.Version: 4.6

Good content, but ads cover up the contentI’ve used the app for some time, and have been very impressed with the content, and use the daily briefing everyday to get a snapshot of what is going on in the world. However, recently - along with an update to the daily briefing came adverts. Masses of adverts across the whole daily briefing feed. The crucial problem here, is that often the adverts cover the actual content, rendering it unusable. I’ve contacted directly a couple of times to report this issue but with no reply. Hopefully someone spots this and does something about it. Admittedly, I don’t subscribe to the magazine etc, so ads are inevitable, buts ads at the cost of basic functionality is immensely frustrating for users..Version: 5.4

WonderWeek NotUnable to read The Week since the latest update of the app. Constantly crashes. Please fix.Version: 3.0

Unable to use subscriptionI have read and enjoyed The Week for years, but in trying to download the latest issue this week, I was met with an authentication error message. I deleted and reinstalled the app (I subscribe through iTunes) and am now met with another error message when I try to restore purchases. This message says ‘There was a problem with the authorisation service’. I have tried to fix this via the Apple customer service but was told to contact the app developer. So I called the helpline on the app, but was told to contact Apple. The app developer’s website (Future PLC) also does not appear to have a contact number - only mailing addresses. I’m a long-time reader of The Week but I have to say this customer service is really poor. I now have a subscription I can’t use and will have to find a new source of weekly news. Disappointing!.Version: 5.2

Great content - awful appI love The Week and my family have been reading the magazine for upwards of 8 years. That said this app is awful - I've had it for over a year and a half and have consistently had major problems downloading an issue. Either I simply am unable to download it (and it just shows as processing forever) or I do finally manage to download it and then come back to it two hours later to find the content is gone and needs downloading again (by which time I'm on the tube and have no signal to do this!). Customer services convinced me when I first complained about this that it was my signal - which I bought for a while as I was travelling for months in areas with pretty minimal internet - however, I've been back in London now for a significant period of time and still continue to face the same issues. Incredibly frustrating as this basically means I'm paying for a subscription and never actually read it!.Version: 4.5.7

Can't log inDownloaded the Magazine, but can't get past page 1. Won't accept my email address. Says it's invalid! I can assure you it is not. This is pretty basic, really? Next day - Still can't log in with my valid email address. Don't you want any subscribers? How do I contact you to sort it out?.Version: 4.3.2

Keeps getting worseSo in the latest release, all my saved articles over the years have disappeared. Plus night/dark mode has disappeared. Exactly what does bug fixes and enhancements mean? Seems you just made things worse..Version: 5.3

Great content - poor appI've been reading The Week on my iPad and iPhone for four years but am now considering going back to paper. The hours I've wasted with Customer Service over this period trying to rectify download problems have left me totally frustrated. Why can't they just sort it out and make it more stable? It never works after an iOS upgrade, then after renewing or revising a subscription it works OK until, for no logical reason, it just stops again. Reboots and app reloads don't solve the problems. Buyer beware!.Version: 4.5.7

Agree It’s An Awful AppOn my second attempt at digital version of App. I really like the publication after my daughter recommended it many years ago. The App, though, is poor and unreliable. Suffered from ‘stuck’ downloads, pages that have very strange error messages and the problem on my iPad Pro where you cannot scroll articles when iPad is in landscape mode. Fine in portrait mode but that means ‘stand’ cannot be used and the iPad Pro is not the lightest Apple product, especially with attached stand and keyboard! If the programming is outsourced to external programmers please change the company and make the whole package/experience excellent!.Version: 4.6

CrashLove it except for the crashes, which I thought may have been my iPad, but obviously others have the same issue!.Version: 2.2.1

Good content - app needs to remember last read articleUnlike others I haven’t had any problems downloading but when resuming app it usually goes back to the list of issues not the last read article. This is infuriating: I normally can’t remember which issue I was reading last time the app was open let alone which article. Should be a simple fix cos irritatingly sometimes it does go back to where I was last time!.Version: 4.5.8

Great Magazine, Terrible AppThe Week is a great magazine that presents an incisive look at the week's news. No longer living in the UK, I was really excited when it became available on iTunes for the iPad. Unfortunately, the app is terrible. It was crashing so frequently, I could virtually only read an article or two at a time. Then I made the mistake of changing the number of issues available (in the settings), and now the app crashes before even opening. I'm glad I'd only gotten so far as downloading a free issue so I've not wasted any money. I'd love to purchase a subscription, but it'd just be a waste. Too bad. I hope the developer fixes the issues..Version: 2.0.1

Still not working on iPadDespite paying for a digital subscription, I haven’t been able to read the magazine via the app on my iPad for at least two weeks. It says ‘Failed to fetch feed of feeds. The operation couldn’t be completed. Not a directory.’ When will this be fixed? As a result, I am currently reading the magazine via iPhone. As someone with poor eyesight who has to increase the text size of the digital magazine when reading, the constant scrolling on a smaller screen doesn’t make for a good user experience. If I have to continue reading via my phone, it’s unlikely I’ll be renewing my digital subscription. I agree with the comments regarding the index - the text sidebar was much easier to navigate. The images of each page in new index are far too small to see properly, particularly on a phone..Version: 5.4

Ipad 1 crashesThe week is great....however on an ipad 1 it crashes constantly....!.Version: 2.2

One step forward, two steps back....The new app is such a step backwards. Far too many taps are required to read each article. The regional sections, which show a map at the top of the screen, now limit the size available for the actual text of the article to 50%-60%. The old app was intuitive and easy to read whilst having a coffee. The new app requires two hands to navigate quickly, interrupts reading with unnecessary required taps to navigate and has less available screen space for the articles. So frustrating..Version: 5.0

Where’s the night mode?In addition to the previous reviews, there’s also no night mode in the latest update. This is really standard stuff now. I’m becoming really exasperated with the last number of updates and I really think The Week need to have a better test user group from their subscribers before releasing future updates . Please look at the recent reviews and release a corrective update soon!.Version: 5.3

Love the magazine, hate the appEvery time I try to launch this app it crashes, so I have to go back through the process of deleting, reinstalling and re entering my subscription information. The content in the magazine is great. The app serving it up is not. Fix it, please!.Version: 3.0.2

The WeekI'm a long time subscriber, since about 2004, and generally I think it's an excellent magazine, though far better written in its earlier days. My problem now is that the App now refuses to open on my iPad: when you click on it, it opens the page with the collage of covers but goes no further -- no Issues, and I can't download any new ones-- but just goes back to the desktop. What's wrong with it? That's why I've given it only 3 stars..Version: 4.2.2

Can’t purchase single editionsWas considering taking out a digital subscription for The Week. First I wanted to purchase a single magazine to see how it looks on iPad. I can’t purchase a single edition, whether the current one or past ones. The button next to Purchase single magazine just continues to say loading. When I press, it states that it cannot be purchased. If The Week thinks I am giving them money for a subscription when I can’t even buy a single edition, they can forget it. Looking at the reviews it seems The Week takes no notice of it’s customer complaints. The Week, you have just lost a potential customer..Version: 4.6.2

Fixed something that wasn’t brokenWhat a shame this app, which was worth three maybe four stars, has been so substantially downgraded and is now worth one star. The overall UX is worse, the UI is worse, navigation is worse, graphics are worse, usability is reduced, screenshots are more difficult, functionality previously working has been removed. What were they thinking?.Version: 5.0

SpamI should not have to agree that my details are given to third parties, just in the sign up process. I know you can opt out later, but that option should be given up front. Deleted..Version: 2.2

Unable to download issuesI have sent so many emails to The Week to say my issues won’t download. They keep telling me to speak to Apple which I have done and they confirmed my subscription was fine and this was an App issue. The customer service team at The Week keep telling me to do the same things that I’ve tired and are not at all helpful. Utterly frustrating to pay for something you can’t access. Great magazine but rubbish app and unhelpful customer service.Version: 4.6.3

AvoidAvoid the digital subscription at all costs. My subscription is still inactive (as the others have also reported) 2 weeks after signing up. 5 phone calls and multiple emails to their support only to be told that it’ll be active at some point in the future. My last email response from the week was obviously written by a comedian as rather than fix my sub, they’ve copy and pasted logon instructions from the website. I’ve given it one star only because it’s illegal to set fire to paper copies of the week in protest..Version: 4.5.8

Like The Week but not the appThe content of The Week is great - but it frequently just closes down when reading. Very frustrating. Maybe it is just my iPad 1 can't handle the app..Version: 2.2

Love the content, but app doesn’t refreshI’ve enjoyed The Week news reports for years in magazine and digital formats, BUT the digital site doesn’t “refresh” the daily update on a regular basis (fails 2-3 times or more a week) and requires either rebooting the iPad or deleting the app and reinstalling it (fastest way). But, deleting the app also means that you have to reset the app if you want to read more than the daily updates in the digital format. VERY FRUSTRATING. And I have contacted them and this appears to be the only “fix”..Version: 5.1

SlowThe app is very very slow..Version: 4.5.3

Week appHave ipad 1 and will cancel my subscription unless crashing is fixed. Surely there is enough feedback on this..Version: 2.2.1

The WeekUnfortunately and bizarrely, you can no longer use Night Mode. This was a very useful feature to allow reading the magazine without glare at night. This is a backward step and a loss that makes no sense of the much less useful gimmicks in this update..Version: 5.0

Worked about 3 years ago but now very frustratingThis is the only news app I have used that does not keep your place when you leave and come back to the app. It used to remember where you were about 3 years ago but this stopped working and they have never fixed this. This is very frustrating especially since, with only a digital subscription, this is my only method of reading the magazine. Further, recently several pages of the magazine each issue display an error message instead of the content. I have written several times to customer service about the former problem and received no help. Most recently about the latter problem I did not even receive a response. So far no attempt has been made to natively display on the new iphone screens or integrate with icloud services so you can sync where you have got in the magazine across devices. Though since it won’t even hold your place on one screen this is less of a problem. Overall app support is terrible..Version: 4.5.8

No app development, no support.Considering you pay for a digital subscription and all the negative reviews about the app and suggestions for improvement, the fact the app has only been updated once in the last year is insulting. The content is good but there is no app development! There is no dark mode for reading at night, the app doesn’t save your place, text sizes are difficult to read either too big or too small. Very frustrating that these issues are continually raised and there is no app support..Version: 5.1

New version of app still not working properly on iPad ProThe latest update of the app still doesn’t work properly with the iPad Pro- the screen layout has changed and it doesn’t seem possible to scroll (certainly in landscape mode). If you look at Help//Update it suggests this has been fixed. It hasn’t. Also it is not possible to read downloaded content unless there is a live internet connection. I downloaded a copy before getting on a flight, only to discover you can’t open it once you set the device to airplane mode. This is all such a shame: It used to work brilliantly; not sure this latest version has been tested on all formats, and reading other reviews it would seem that the developers aren’t listening to any of the feedback... a sensible course of action would be to enable us to roll back to a previous working version of the app, but I don’t see how to do that..Version: 4.6

New version of the app unusable offlineEver since the app was updated it has been impossible to read the magazine offline, it gives you the impression it has downloaded but then when you try and read it on a plane or the underground you either get no content at all or there are no pictures. Please go back to the previous version, I used to read your mag a lot while travelling and it’s now impossible to do which is causing me to think about unsubscribing having read The Week for many years..Version: 5.4

Some changes for the worseThe content of The Week remains varied and interesting. Unfortunately there seems to have been some changes for the worse in the latest app update. Night mode is no longer supported, and inexplicably (in this day and age) there are only 3 supported text sizes - one too small and one too big for me - and not the one I’m used to previously. On the plus side, a landscape mode is now supported..Version: 5.1

Deleted all my content - do not install!I’ve been reading The Week for years, and although the old app wasn’t great, it was functional. The benefit of the app over a print copy or digital copy via local library was the ability to save articles to refer to at a later date. I had *years* of saved articles, which this new app has just destroyed. ALL my old favourite articles are gone, the layout is horrible, it’s very hard to navigate to older issues, and the bugs are still there. There is no benefit to this redesign and it infuriated me so much in deleting my saved content that I’ve decided to cancel my sub, I just can’t take the hassle. If you haven’t updated yet, don’t!.Version: 5.0

Please fixThe magazine freezes every time I try to read it. I enjoy the content and prefer to read it through the app (vs. the hard copy). So please fix the problem..Version: 4.2.2

Great magazine, disappointing new appI’ve been a keen reader of the Week for 7 years and always recommend to people looking for a good news source. However, very difficult to recommend now due to the new app which is very disappointing for the reasons below: 1) All my saved articles going back 7 years have disappeared. 2) The new scrapbook section is difficult to scroll through as you can only see one article at a time 3) Similar issues with looking at previous issues. I used to like dipping back into old copies and the old app made it easy to move between the different years. The new app makes this clunky and time consuming. I hope it gets amended. 4) The night mode has been disabled. Hopefully the app will be updated and improved again..Version: 5.0

Disinterested publisherThis is a great App when it works. The magazine is an enjoyable read however the App is buggy and unreliable. My suggestion for new customers is to sign up for a trial subscription, download the App and current edition of the mag and make sure it works properly on your device before you sign-up for a subscription. Once you have a fully functioning version of the App do not upgrade it until your subscription expires and the then repeat the process above. The publisher of the Week and the App, Dennis Publishing seem little interested in the problems with this service and simply refer subscribers to Apple. Caution is required!.Version: 4.6

App freezesFor months now, through more than one update, the app freezes and pages will not turn..Version: 4.2.2

No audio editionThe screenshots misrepresent the app, as there is no audio edition available within the app. As a regular reader of the traditional hard copy edition of the Week, I decided to purchase a digital subscription after stumbling on the Week app in the AppStore. The standout feature was the prospect of listening to the Week whilst doing other activities. However, after spending quite some time trying to find the missing feature I was told by Denis support that this feature has been removed for “some time”, prior to the last AppStore update and would not be returning. Avoid this app if like me, you are purchasing this primarily for the audio edition. *** I am now trying to cancel my digital subscription, but as this was purchased through the Week directly rather than through the AppStore, this is proving difficult. I have been very disappointed by my experience with the digital edition, and by customer service support, and would recommend any existing print readers avoid the hassle of the app..Version: 4.6

Good content, poor app, middle class outrageIt’s a lovely Sunday morning and I was trying to catch up on the weeks news over a delicious cup of freshly roasted coffee, brewed moments ago in my rather nice Neff unbuilt bean-to-cup machine. Imagine my horror when I discover I can’t scroll through the articles in landscape! This means my device can’t rest on a table whilst I read! How am I supposed to hold a large iPad Pro and my Le Cruset cappuccino mug and also scroll through in portrait? I don’t have three hands! All I can say is I’m glad I booked a hot yoga class at 8am. That’s should calm me down..Version: 4.6
