The Week magazine UK edition for Positive User Reviews

Essential readingI only wish we still had an Australian version..Version: 3.2

Don’t go backwardsThe content of The Week has been and remains excellent. The recent “upgrade” to the presentation has introduced some “not particularly helpful bells and whistles and dropped one of the most useful features. Previously I could switch to night mode and read in bed with the screen white on black. Now I only have black on white..Version: 5.0

Excellent publicationA wonderful way to keep in touch with events in the U.K. as well as elsewhere, for those of us who live elsewhere!.Version: 4.2.3

Terrific news magazineI have been reading The Week for some years & am delighted that it is available in digital form. Newsy & succinct - keep up the standard.Version: 2.2

Excellent readI have been a reader of The Week for the last 14 years and love it. The paper version used to arrive here in Jamaica 3 weeks after publication, so I really enjoy the digital version. If you read nothing else regularly, read The Week.Version: 2.2

A weekly treatLike many other subscribers I have come to look forward to the arrival of the Week magazine every Friday. It does just what it promises, giving me the world's news and reviews in a nutshell. The writing is first class and when I am away from home I greatly appreciate the ability of accessing the Week online..Version: 4.5.7

Changing NeedsI have for many years enjoyed the balanced reporting of global news and articles. Having received a paper copy in previous years, it has become necessary to change to the online version to enjoy while travelling, still as concise but now more convenient.😎.Version: 4.6

AceAce.Version: 4.5.7

Excellent news sourceThe app is great. The content superb. A very good survey of events, news, and editorial from around the media from around the globe. I recommend it..Version: 2.2

Excellent and informative magazineI love the way this magazine is presented and edited to give both sides of the story in a fast packaged way. Would highly recommend!.Version: 4.4.4

Good content but extremely poor support!Subscription active but App Intermittently won’t download new content due to apparent problem with subscription authentication!… AND, can’t log into digital account with user ID (as shown in Apple purchase history) to find out what’s going wrong… Called ‘The Week’ helpline and informed by them it’s an Apple issue… Spoke to Apple help and told it’s definitely a App developer issue!!!… very frustrating and a poor customer experience :(.Version: 5.2

Better than paper.Getting the week early in Africa is a treat, especially as there is no paper involved..Version: 2.2.1

Potential fix for scroll issue?Content is great, but as others mention the app sometimes doesn’t work as well as it could. In particular, sometimes scrolling up and down within an article doesn’t work. It seems this only happens (to me) when I don’t have signal. This is very frustrating when trying to read on the tube. However, the issue seems to disappear when putting phone into Airplane Mode - ie vertical scrolling works when in Airplane Mode. Not an ideal solution, but if you only have the scrolling issue on the tube, and don’t have signal anyway, then it’s not too troublesome. I hope the developers can just properly fix this..Version: 5.2

The WeekA good précis of what is going on in the world.Educational and entertaining. App. Is not reliable..Version: 2.2.1

Recent changesI miss the Daily Briefing section. Did you consult your readership on that change or did you make it unilaterally. I also feel that when I started my membership you strived really hard to show equal numbers of views / articles to obviate bias. Over the last 2 years you have shown a preponderance of left wing articles. I would like to see you return to present different views to demonstrate a clear commitment to impartiality..Version: 5.0

Great content, terrible supportDon't expect any help if you can't download content..Version: 4.6

App poorI’ve subscribed for years. The app is so glitchy. Sometimes articles cannot be read, you cannot scroll down, or across. Digital content should be a lot cheaper if they’re not going to invest properly in the tech.Version: 4.6.3

Just silence. After signing up for digital and free offer, nothing. I’ve been a subscriber of The Week for many years, first in England and now in US. Tried to get UK addition but got no where. ?????? Anyone out there? Roy Bartholomew.Version: 4.5.8

Amazing publication, so so AppI am a huge advocate of he Week, so I am loathe to say anything which would put people off reading it, as I think it performs a huge public service by curating unbiased content so intelligently. The app has always been useful but a pale imitation of the real magazine. To compound matters the update this week has removed some key features and rendered others unreliable. The ‘top 10 things you must read today’ section has been removed & the saved articles function has been renamed ‘scrapbook’ & simply doesn’t save anything. I’m running an iPhone XR with the most recent version of iOS so must leave the faults with the developers to resolve. Please ‘scrap’ these changes, which add nothing but remove some key reliable and much loved functionality.Version: 5.0

Content and synopses are outstanding butSometimes the formatting on the app doesn’t work properly so that swiping from article to article is stuttery. Formatting of articles with photos or maps show only part of what you want to read / see and require going back to Home or closing and reopening the app. Slow and frustrating.Version: 5.4

Print or digitalI already gave 2/5 for the app. I think I am now voting on the magazine as a whole. I agree with almost all of the comment I have read in the reviews of the app, in the difficulty in downloading often experienced. The updates of the app come regularly yet the problems persist. I can only hope that eventually they will be resolved. The content of the magazine itself I can say without reservation is excellent and I rely on it to give me a broad insight into subjects that I can then pick out to follow up in greater detail elsewhere I have one additional wish:- that one day the occasional updates to the individual magazine content could be flagged in some way, so that I can find the updated material, as I have yet been able to find it..Version: 4.6

Great Mag - rubbish App - now updating to 1 star! Now downgrading to 1 star. This app is appalling. It wouldn’t download any new issues and now marks me as having an inactive subscription when I’m fully paid up! __________________________ I won’t reiterate all the other comments that people have made about this app. It crashes, it freezes, and it’s difficult to download old issues sometimes. This means that I have reinstalled it at least four times. I would have thought that, by now, the developers would’ve sorted out these basic issues. Get a grip!.Version: 5.1

Very user-friendly app for wonderful magazineThe writing is splendid. The coverage is comprehensive. And the app is very good..Version: 2.2.1

Available in the US at last!I honestly missed this more than any other publication when I moved from the UK. I had the paper copied delivered but nothing beats the Newstand experience and ease of subscription. Many thanks for making it available outside of the UK - now if we could only find a clever way to include the crossword :-).Version: 2.0

Great magazine that’s informative and balancedI read a lot but it can still be hard to keep up with everything. It is also increasingly difficult to read both sides of the argument. The Week covers nearly all topics and events, from politics to the arts to finance. It also gives a global perspective on major events. I read things like Private Eye and New Scientist regularly but the Week is the only magazine I read every week. And the app works really well if you’re on an iPad. Recommended!.Version: 5.1

Brilliant news bite sizeWell laid out App. As enjoyable as the magazine itself..Version: 4.5.8

The Week is great, the App is not greatI really, really like The Week, and have taken it for 10 years+. So it pains me to write a poor review to get some action. Like a few other reviewers, I am subscribed through iTunes and yet again (not the first time) there is an error with the authorisation service. The Week tell you to call iTunes, who tell you to call The Week. Great experience as you can imagine. This is completely down to The Week to make sure that their product authorises correctly. Fix this please and you will get 5 stars!.Version: 5.2

Great mobile newsGreat magazine and good to have it with for the quick updates always at hand. Good companion and worth it..Version: 2.2

Subscriber since first issueDistilled balanced and humorous. No other periodical like it..Version: 5.2

WeekGreat app great magazine with excellent content..Version: 2.2

So disappointedI have been using the digital format from the beginning. On my old iPad and old app version everything worked perfectly. On my new iPad (latest iOS) there was a bug. But now with the new version it doesn’t work on my old iPad and on my new iPad I hate the way you have to navigate and the ability to change to night reading has disappeared. I used praise your developers for getting your magazine to digital all those years ago right first time. In my opinion they have gone backwards. Please bring back the old way of just being able to read it as per the early version!.Version: 5.0

Great app and magazine, but crashes on Ipad1I love this magazine, and the IPad Ap is fantastic. BUT it keeps crashing on our two early Ipad1's (not on the Ipad3) - please fix this because it's hugely frustrating.Version: 2.2

What a great sum up of each week that passes……We have been reading the week for 21 years and always look forward to reading it on Friday. It is a Wally good mixture of news stories from around the world and good opinion pieces. It suits us well because we read it on line in Turkey where we spend half the year, and then try to share it with the grandchildren when we are back in the Uk. it is the only magazine type of publication we read regularly and find it informative and an easy, entertaining read. You have hit a good format. so thank you, long may you reign..Version: 5.2

BrilliantArguably one of the best newspapers of any country. I don't read anything online but make an exception for the week because it's so good. It's actually a well done app for the iPad as well..Version: 2.2

Love it!I’ve subscribed to The Week for many years, and have found it tells me all I need to know about the world, in a manageable format. More recently (with Covid-related postal issues) access to the digital issue has been much appreciated. I love The Week concept giving an insight into a broad range of stories and viewpoints in one package. Thank you, and please continue your good work!.Version: 5.1

Best weekly news digestHave loved this magazine for over a decade. The app makes it much more accessible and I get it straight away which is useful as I'm in Australia..Version: 4.5.5

The app ruins enjoyment of a quality magazineThe iPad app constantly freeze, always from the People’s section onward. Every single article freezes requiring a restart the to read the next article. I’ve tried deleting the content, even the app and re downloading. Every single time it’s the same crashing issue. The Week: I will not be renewing my subscription unless this is fixed. It is too painful. 2017 iPad, running latest iOS..Version: 4.6

The app has got worse over the years when most improveI like The Week and have subscribed for years to the print version. I added the digital version a few years ago and it seemed fine, but now it of ten doesn’t work. It seems to check for an internet connection before it will open, which almost defeats the object of having it. The latest version links the daily update to a web site which entreats me to subscribe and so reading it can’t be done - no link for subscribers to log on is there. It is so disappointing since I have subscribed and enjoyed the Week for many years.Version: 5.1

Good content, rubbish appAs the title suggests, the content is good, the app on the other hand is underwhelming - slow, buggy, doesn't remember where you left off, etc. *** As of 28 September, the app is worse than ever: (1) some magazines don’t download, the current one has been stuck on “processing” for an hour; (2) the magazines that do download delete themselves every time I close down the app, so I have to re-download a magazine every time I open it; (3) the lack of bookmark functionality is also frustrating, though irrelevant as I’m constantly downloading new magazines; and (4) the app hasn’t been updated to reflect the new iPhone screen size, so it’s really unattractive to read (if it works). IT support are pretty unhelpful. I’ve been going back and forth with them regarding (2), and they said it was down to my storage (I had plenty) and/or a limit on magazine numbers (the limit was removed and made no difference). It rather frustrating to have a paper and digital subscription when you only have access to one form of media, which isn’t at all helpful if you travel regularly. It would be great if we could just log-on to a password protected section of the Week website and download a PDF of the current magazine. That would save the torture of trying to use this app..Version: 4.5.8

App even Better than Print VersionThe app is a pleasure to read; it has been really well designed so the articles are easy to find and access. And of course the content is always good..Version: 2.2

Excellent but pricy news summaryThe week ( printed ) is excellent although expensive, as is the electronic version.Version: 4.5.8

Really excellent publicationThe Week is a really fantastic publication and I am so pleased to have been able to buy the app for my iPad/iPhone. A brilliant app, so easy to use and navigate. I like not having to wait for the paper copy to arrive by post, and it's cheaper too! The Week really is quality reading, with great articles, so well put together. So much better than trawling the daily newspapers!.Version: 2.2

10!Does what Time & Newsweek never managed ---riveting..Version: 2.2

Excellent weekly news summaryA good mix of news stories from across the globe presented in a succinct format. Worth subscribing to..Version: 2.2

So much better perspective than online news!I love that the Week focusses on the bigger themes rather than daily dramas. It quotes other journalists and how they have bounced off each other on key issues during each week - which greatly adds to interpretation. The global news is great. I am time poor so I really appreciate this weekly briefing to keep across global news..Version: 5.1

10 short daily news disappeared? The app has been ok, although I’ve been having trouble with downloading new issues until I logged out, deleted the app and re-downloaded it. I woke up to the new update this morning and could not find the section with the 10 short stories that the old app had on a daily basis. Has this been removed in the new update??.Version: 5.0

MarkExcellent, live in OZ and want to keep up to date on what is going on back home, read the magazine when visiting Uk and am stocked it is available here. Great articles, well written, top job..Version: 1.1

Great Content / Terrible AppReview of the content: 5/5 Review of the App: 0/5 I’m really disappointed as I really like the content but am finding it sometimes inpossible to download any of it. Sometimes it works, most times it doesn’t. This is now the second edition I cannot seem to download for some obscure reason. The circular waiting sign gets into action but nothing happens (my connection to internet etc is working of course) Also why not include a progress bar like the Economist ? Then at least users would have a bit more information on if anything is actually downloading To editiors: if you can’t fix the app then hire another company please to do a better one. I really like your content but travelling a lot would like to stick to digital. If this doesn’t workout I will most probably cancel my subscription and I’m guessing I’m not the only one Thanks.Version: 4.5.8

Love it!Great app...used to get paper version sent to Aus, now on iPad, very easy to navigate and content as good as ever..Version: 2.2.1

Great content - needs a bookmarkWhen the app was first released it remembered were you were even if the app had been closed, but not in later versions. I am never able to read the whole magazine in one go and it is absolutely infuriating to be returned to the Contents page when I return to read it again. I've never had any problems with downloading and the content is first class, but I think that the lack of a bookmark reduces the rating from 4 or 5 stars to 3!.Version: 4.5.8

Get the habit!I have been reading The Week for a decade now and it is something that I always look forward to. I always find something new and interesting in the magazine and honestly I feel like a more rounded person for having read it. Try it and you will get the habit too!.Version: 5.2

Almost perfectI moved from the paper to the digital edition during lockdown, and while I always recycled the paper version, I am now happier enjoying the magazine with the benefit of knowing that I’m no longer contributing to the mountain of waste paper. My only grouse is that the Sudoku puzzle, which I aways looked forward to, has sadly and mysteriously disappeared from the digital edition..Version: 5.0

Online and offlineGreat round-up of global on going events, really easy access online and great to have the subscription delivered to my door -.Version: 3.1
