PC Pro Magazine for Negative User Reviews

Bookmarks would make this more usefulWhile the scrapbook option is ok for single pages, it would be much more useful to have a genuine bookmark option to allow re-reading useful articles that run over several pages..Version: 4.1

Very disappointingI'm new to PC Pro and whilst the content looks great i wont be buying again. A lazy, PDF style implementation of a magazine which makes for a very poor reading experience..Version: 2.2.6

Where r my missing EditionsI had several years worth of Editions saved in the Old App, Was forced to download the latest incarnation & voila!!!! All the Editions that I’ve paid a considerable amount for are now gone...Not a very happy Bunny...I want what I’ve paid for returned ASAP.......Version: 4.0

Shocking - I prefer the print versionPC Pro's magazine runs very poorly on an iPad. It ruins everything which gives digital an advantage over a paper copy of the magazine. The magazine feels very cumbersome and slow - it is far easier turning physical page. This needs to change, for an IT magazine this is a poor effort..Version: 2.2.6

TerribleYou get a copy of each page from the magazine. Impossible to read on a phone and a terrible experience on an iPad..Version: 3.6.1

Worst app everShocking app given this is a tech magazine. I’ve been a reader for years and love the magazine but this app is a joke. Constantly have to restore my subscription and redownload the latest edition. Kinda hard while flying..Version: 3.6.1

User interface deteriorates in latest versionThe app has never been great, but worked okay. However the latest update has made it worse. No easy way to jump to pages in the magazine and not as easy to view a full page on my iPad. With a magazine that is 100+ pages and the real world articles are past page 100, means this is really frustrating. The digital version of PC Pro always seems to be the poor relation, with new issues coming out days later than the printed version (how does that work!). So it’s a good magazine, let down by poor app for digital readers and getting worse. Amendment: I’ve found out there is an obscure looking icon on the top bar for scrolling through pages, but not obvious and it still doesn’t let you jump to a page number. If I was cynical, I would think they wanted to ensure we see all the adverts as we scroll through..Version: 4.3

*Crashes straight away on iPod touch*Don't know what this app is like as it crashes back to the home screen immediately after starting. Restarting the iPod didn't help..Version: 2.5.4

No longer in use?I have a print and digital subscription but this app no longer delivers current issues. I still get emails saying that a new issue is available - next time I must follow that link? - No, I tried that, and logging in to my account and pressing 'restore purchases' but nothing works..Version: 3.1.4

Utter crapThe irony of this app being used to deliver tech savvy content is not lost on me. I cannot think of anything positive to say about it. Logging in each time, no offline issues etc etc. Steer clear and buy a hard copy instead..Version: 3.6.1

What a disaster! How to go from a perfectly usable app to something that feels like it was produced on the cheap. It will make me think about renewing my subscription, which I’ve had for over 5 years. Two stars just because of the content - it’s worth it to read Jon Honeyball’s columns..Version: 4.0

First impression...Why is the app still in low resolution and the old look & feel?! I've just bought a subscription to a technology publication and your app is using the old interface of iOS 6! Put some effort in for goodness sake!!.Version: 3.6.1

OK butHas suddenly become very crash mamin git hard to read magazines,.Version: 4.1

Very BasicEach page is not fully displayed, you need to scroll up and down, there’s no way to zoom in/out. No interactive table of contents to enable navigation to a chosen article. This is a very basic viewing app..Version: 4.3

Good OverallIt's a great magazine however doesn't feel that polished compared to MacLife. There are constant black screens as you flip through the pages. Doesn't look like content is missing - just not that refined..Version: 2.2.6

Things to consider...PC Pro is an excellent magazine, and if you're lucky (as I was) you can pick up a year's subscription for the price of four print issues albeit without the cover discs. That's a significant saving and a blessing if all you want is quick, easy, and cheap access to the magazine. However, as others here have noted it isn't a good digital offering. It doesn't even follow the basics of digital magazines, e.g. independent zoom levels, let alone play to the strengths of the new iPad display. Simply put if you find either of the two zoom levels inadequate you're snookered. Fortunately, I can cope with the zoomed in text despite its ugliness. At present (and in lieu of waiting in frustration for a retina display update) I can only suggest trying out one of the cheaper back issues..Version: 2.2.6

Non existent iPad Pro supportOver a year since the iPad Pro came out and still doesn’t support the resolution correctly, pages don’t render the correct size. I won’t be renewing if it isn’t fixed.Version: 4.0

Inconsistent downloadsMagazine is OK. happy enough to subscribe but twice now the new editions have not downloaded. Hope customer support fix issue promptly..Version: 4.1

Oh DearAs a long time magazine subscriber, I finally ‘upgraded’ to the digital version too. Unfortunately, there are a lot of basic mistakes with this app. 1. Why do the past editions not appear in order? There is a run of months in the correct order, then suddenly a few are out of order, then back in order again. (And the issue numbers are not readable in iPhone) 2. The content is not hyperlinked. Why can’t I click on an item in the index, and be taken to the relevant page. I either need to swipe through 50 pages to get to the right page, or navigate to a drop down list of pages in the home menu (helpfully just a list of page 1, page 2 etc!), then click the page. It would be even better if the content was hyperlinked across editions. (So I could click on a review from the A-List section and be taken to the correct edition and page). 3. On iPad, the pages are rendered just slightly too big to fit the screen! So you end up scrolling up and down a few lines to be able to see the whole content. Why not fit to the screen height? This would result in a solid view of the page, with left/right swiping always turning the page. At the moment, a slight drift up/down with your finger caused the page to scroll up/down and not turn. It’s a real shame these issues exist, since the content is excellent, and I will continue to use it to inform my purchasing decisions in the future. Hopefully, the app will be updated soon..Version: 4.0

Good content, horrific appWhilst the content of the PC Pro magazine itself is something I enjoy the experience is pretty darn poor thanks to what can only be described as a horrific attempt at an app. The app itself is incredibly buggy and you often find that you're unable to just swipe through the magazine like you can with every other app of this type but have to regularly research the page from the index that you want. In fact the app is almost so bad that I've been considering switching back to a physical paper copy..Version: 3.6.1

Do NOT upgrade #2**Similar experience with latest update. Refused to recognise password. Lost access to purchased issues for a number of days. And still waiting for the interactive edition which was temporarily withdrawn a few years back but with promised rapid replacement ** Latest update a disaster. First step after installation is a database upgrade. App crashes after about 5% every time. Lost access to all my issues..Version: 3.6.1

Scrapbook problemJust subscribed but there seems no way to access a page you add to the scrapbook..Version: 4.1

Don't InstallRan this on my iPad2 with IOS6. It says "upgrading database". 5 minutes later it is about 30% of the way through and then crashes. Tried 3 times with the same result. So now can't read any of the copies I've already paid for. For a tech magazine this is not good enough..Version: 3.1.2

Terrible application, disgusted with Dennis publishingSo below is an email I received back from the magazine support team after I chased them up about restoring my issues back to 2012. Thank you for your email regarding PC Pro. Dennis have only decided to load a certain number of issues into the app. This is usually only a years’ worth of issues per title. We appreciate customers will want to view all issues they have purchased, so we have raised this with Dennis and they are checking now if they can load in more older issues. If we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us. Kind regards Victor Gosling I just can’t believe that they basically made you upgrade to an app that’s worse than the original and that didn’t give you the option to at least archive off the issue you’ve purchased. I will be cancelling my subscription. Don’t upgrade, I had issues available in the old app going back to 2012, they are only available now back to last November. Talk about making your loyal customers feel like they have been ripped off..Version: 4.0

No Voice Over supportThe app itself is quite accessible, but the magazine itself is completely inaccessible for blind people. Really disappointed as digital publications should be the way to go for blind people and the iOS News Stand provides an ideal platform to make this possible!.Version: 2.5.1

PC ProIt appears that each new edition has less and less relevant content and smacks of desperation on the part of the contributors..Version: 4.0

Poor appSorry, but this app is almost unusable. I have a trial subscription to both the physical magazine and the digital app and the digital experience is just pants... 1st: why does someone think we just want a PDF of the physical mag? Not good enough - especially for a tech mag. Try the Guardian app to see how it should be done... 2nd: every month it's a faff to try and download the mag. So much trouble it's not worth trying... By contrast the physical mag just pops through the letterbox regular as clockwork...Version: 3.1.4

Pixelmags Version - Oh NoHow I loathe the PixelMags version of magazines. Just the laziest of conversions, no retina display support (this is 2013), sloppy redraws and poor page scans. Plus the awful PixelMags login requirement that doesn't seem to accept you may already have an account with them, forcing you to open a new one for each magazine. Once my subscription is up, I'm off, either back to Zinio (a much better experience) or I just may not bother, like Dennis Publications with their effort here. For a technology publication this is unforgivable. The enhanced app was far from perfect, but a promising start - now just abandoned..Version: 2.5.9

Access failureSubscribed for years. Couple of times had to renew existing subscription to get access to already paid subscription. Not a big problem. Now I can’t access the magazines the app reporting an auth error. Emailed developer who sd have to deal with Apple. Contacted Apple who gave some advice that didn’t work and sd app developer is responsible. So paid for subscription but cannot access the magazine and no one takes responsibility. Great magazine absolutely worthless support.Version: 4.1

Why did I spend more for a year than for 2 x 6 months? This is just a PDF viewer, which suits me. I hated the 'enhanced' versions as I spent more time trying to work out how to find all the articles than reading them. Too pricey though and I've stupidly paid for 12 month subscription which is pro rata more expensive than paying for the shorter time periods, feel swindled!.Version: 3.1.4

Ok(ish)Not sure why people have a problem with download. Takes about a minute over wi-fi. Don't like it mind you. Prefer hard copy but digital version was only a few quid on top of the hard copy price and I can recycle old mags..Version: 3.1.4

Pro computer? Then why an amateur app?Unbelievable. PC Pro? Yet app is a disaster! Unable to zoom properly. Text lost behind border. Have to hold finger on screen to read bottom of page, or it defaults back to centre. Aw, come on guys - call yourselves computer professionals? This has to be the worst magazine reader app ever. Cancelled subscription. Get your act together for heavens sake..Version: 3.6.1

Font too smallI agree with the other reviewer, that the font is too small. Even with reading glasses I have to pinch and zoom each time I turn a page..Version: 2.5.4

Zinio is far slickerI have tried a few newsstand apps and am always disappointed for two reasons: 1) slow performance each time you turn a page waiting for images to be sized and rendered. Often poor quality fonts. Overall app quality and experience is poor 2) inconsistent experience. Each publisher has to develop their own app from scratch leading to different interfaces and behaviours. The main beauty of Apple products is normally the consistent experience. I actually prefer having all my magazines in one app - Zinio. This is also multi-platform and well designed. Can read my e-Mags on any device. I bought GQ magazine when iPad first launched and have now lost my money and magazine :(..Version: 2.2.6

PC Pro - could do betterDisappointingly old-fashioned UI. Shouldn’t have to search through a bunch of print-facsimile pages to find, e.g., reviews for printers that excel in photo-printing..Version: 4.3

Poor! Not worth upgrading.I have subscribed to PCPro for years. Just upgraded from printout only to print plus digital. Huge disappointment - not interactive, difficult to read. It's just a scanned version of the printed magazine. I regret upgrading - will contact them to see if they plan improvements - otherwise will cancel digital subscription..Version: 2.5.4

Poor app. Good magazine.Every time I open the app I have to log into my account, and download the magazine again. Not being able to retain account details, or bookmark progress makes for a poor user experience compared to other apps. Considering cancelling my subs..Version: 3.6.1

Great content ruined by a terrible app and subscription serviceThe app is a pain to use, difficult to read had to navigate Will not allow offline access to magazine even though the issues are downloaded My purchased issues have failed to show up several times. Latest time they were unable to get my access back. I was being asked to log onto a web site seperate from the app - this then decided u had a subscription to What Car. Great magazine - but I won’t be reading it any more - subscription cancelled.Version: 3.6.1

Not so goodActually it's lamentable. This is not a tablet edition just a miniaturised version of the printed magazine. As a result the on screen print is too small to be comfortably read. Imo not fit for purpose. More imagination is needed so check out Fortune Magazine which makes a much better stab at how it should be done..Version: 2.5.4

Dreadful ConversionWhile the magazine remains an interesting read the conversion to an app is a dreadful effort. The text when viewed as a whole page is unfocused and hard to read. This is a lazy PDF effort with little thought as to how the content will be conveyed in a different medium (see Guitarist Magazine for an example of what can be achieved). The publisher of a technology magazine should be ashamed that they have so fully failed to grasp the opportunity presented for display on a device like the iPad. My advice is if you're going to buy this magazine then seek it out in your local newsagent..Version: 2.2.6

FailedContinually says installing, will mot instal, unable to delete. After rebooting iPad it finally deleted. Still says 'Installing' but nothing happens..Version: 3.6.1

Appalling appPCpro isn't so professional when it comes to apps..Version: 3.6.1

Beware UpdateI have received PC pro digitally on my iPad for 18 months and found it informative and easy to read in digital form despite others comments. However with this latest upgrade it sat there saying database upgrading. I have since been told by support to delete the app and reinstall it - loosing all of the copies that I had previously downloaded. This has at least resolved the issue and I can download the copies again in the new version - however this is frustrating to say the least. 3 stars as the app works fine when it is working but the issues with the upgrade have proved time consuming and frustrating.Version: 3.1.2

Latest update makes me want to cancel my subscriptionThe latest update is bad. I have an iPad Pro 12.9”. With this update I am now having to scroll down to see the bottom of the page; and there’s no longer a view of 2 pages side-by-side in landscape mode..Version: 4.0

DisappointedSigh. When will designers learn to work with the device screen size and not just whack a PDF into an app. I was really looking forward to PC Pro on the iPad but it's really not a very nice experience. On a first gen iPad the text takes a couple of seconds to render which is annoying. Pinching, zooming and scrolling aren't they way to read a magazine. Why should I have to zoom in just to read text? No clickable table of contents is poor. The thumbnails at the bottom are OK but not the best way to navigate. Have a look at Empire Magazine of the Daily Mail app to see how it should be done. PDF magazine on an iPad = misery..Version: 2.2.4
