DontDont pay for it.Version: 7.1

Recognition is uselessI paid for the Premium lifetime option... BIG MISTAKE! 1) Should have been put off by the warning if you open or use the app within 14 days of downloading you lose the option of returning it. Tell me Fineprint, how the heck can anyone judge its fitness for purpose without opening and using the app?! 2) I chose to have he document I scanned recognised and saved in .DOC format not RTF. 3) It took forever over 20 minutes to 'recognise' and when I eventually git a file back to open...it was in a kind of computer postscript file RTF format - absolutely useless! Don't buy!.Version: 6.8.2

ABBYY used to be the best, but sadly, no moreThe quality of the picture scans has become abysmal on both this app and the pro version. It’s one thing to have functions change (ocr now limited to 100 pgs), but now the pictures are often so terrible that large portions may be blurred or blotchy (the more glossy the original the worse it is). It is really upsetting how bad it is - one would do better using the HDR feature in the native camera app and then importing it into the app. Really really frustrating.Version: 6.6.2

Good appIt just has issues with sending emails even with the full membership just doesn’t seem to send them sometimes..Version: 7.6

Was good beforeNow I keep getting a notification that “the server cannot recognize this file”..Version: 7.1.1

Super SneakyAs a long time user and have purchased the app sometime ago, usage is now limited to a set number of pages, as if it’s a free trial, and is trying to force signing up fir a subscription. After years of having the app, it’s being deleted. While this was one of the few that did scanning and OCR early on, there are so many scanners and text converters now, where you get full functionality and no subscription fees. I’ll never trust buying anyhing outright from ABBYY..Version: 15.6.1

CrashesCrashes out a lot and I lose entire photographed pages.Version: 7.5.1

FineScanner !!Ticky Boo !!.Version: 7.14.2

Subscription based. 4 pages in the trial.I really dislike the “As a Service” model that everyone is going to these days. This is actually a really good app, but the fact they want $6/mo or $21/yr or $30 for a lifetime is kinda hard to wrap my head around. I know people gotta eat. But make it a $10 app and it would be a no-brainer. This would smoke every other scanner app in the App Store..Version: 7.7.11

Terrible updateI’ve happily used this app for years without issue. I’m now deleting it for good after the recent update. You can no longer scan books or magazines without lots of sizing and quality issues. I believe this is done intentionally to coerce you to buy their premium subscription, which conveniently (for them) solves this new issue. The screen is now plastered with Buy Premium banners as well, which is just tacky..Version: 6.8.4

Problème courrielImpossible d’envoyer les scan par courriel.Version: 15.2.11

Used to be a 5 Star App now just use Apple NotesThis used to be my scan app. I have used it for years. I scanned everything. I used the free version, it displayed ads, no problem. Then it updated and it only allowed 10 scans total. Not 10 each document, but 10 pages total. I have documents that I scanned over 10 pages that are now gone forever. It was nice while it lasted, I would buy the app, but they want to subscribe monthly or yearly or whatever. Good thing iPhone now allows you to scan documents via the “Notes”. Open notes and use camera and it has “Scan Notes”. It will make a file on your iPhone for free. The FineScanner app is irrelevant. Sad, I liked it and it was very useful, but a 10 page limit has ruined the app..Version: 15.1.2

Poor scan qualityI use this app to scan pages in a book, and I must admit that although the ‘bookscan’ functionality is good and the OCR is great, the actual pictures taken are noticeably poorer quality than the other app I use (Scanb*t), and that is in the same lighting conditions etc. Please try to increase the quality of the pics!.Version: 6.7.5

No way to edit after first scanIt’s quite good. I would pay the premium subscription if it weren’t lacking a critical feature. After your first time scanning a page, there is no way to return to the image editor, to apply a different filter or recrop or anything. I can understand it not retaining the ability to edit the original photo capture, but why can I not edit after saving? I shouldn’t have to rescan to edit a page..Version: 7.9

Cropping too much and won’t upload to google driveI hope it’ll work better so I can buy it.Version: 15.1.2

Expensive for the lack of efficiencyIf all you’re looking for is the ability to occasionally scan a PDF/file/image to attach to an email, this works great. However, if you’re using it everyday for something like scanning receipts, there are too many steps to go through for each receipt. Each receipt requires that you scan, crop, name, upload for OCR (which asks to choose the language every time, then wait while the document uploads), then when the OCR is done, save it to my iCloud account (which has multiple screens to jump through to find the iCloud Drive). It’s too time consuming for me. If it was $8 a year, I might not complain, but I won’t renew my subscription unless they offer a way to make these manual steps automatic each time I scan a new receipt..Version: 6.8.6

Don’t buyI cancelled the service because I didn’t like it and they have charged me for a year anyways ..Version: 7.7.6

Auto capture not working properlyWhen scanning pages with the auto capture function it scans the same page multiple times. The support solution is to turn the auto capture function off. How about fixing the auto capture feature or remove it..Version: 15.2.11

Fine scanner demands your personal info at some pointUsed for 1 year, thought it was great , until it then asked for connection to google personal info , to continue using the sending of scans into google drive. Very concerning indeed . Stuck now with files I can’t update in google as don’t want to share my personal info ,.Version: 15.0.1

ReviewYou said the app is free and then I can’t use beachside you are forcing me to buy premium. Thank you I don’t need it.Version: 15.0.2

Only for black and white booksGood for b&w books. Horrible when the book or magazine has text in color. Probably because it is optimazied only for b&w. I do not understand why the developer limited the app in this way. Very slow because it sends your copy to the servers for analysis. Privacy concern. They maintain a copy of your scan in the servers. Why? There is no choice to stop this once you bought the App. There is only a few apps like this, none of them are good enough, probably this is the most acceptable app, but from my point of view, it is still far far away of being acceptable. I only use it when I have no other choice. And why is it constantly asking for ratings? Update: I regrets to buy this app. I messed up a whole 10 pages ocr recognition..Version: 7.6

Not great quality, especially for the priceI started using the free version and it seemed to do ok. But then I bought the paid version and the quality has somehow been reduced. Instead of a crisp clean scan that I would expect for so much money, it looks like a Xerox from the ‘80s. . . . The even more frustrating part is that a little later I discovered that Microsoft has their own version of this product that works 100 times better, gives more export options, and...wait for it...is completely free! Don’t waste your money on the paid version. Get Microsoft’s Office Lens..Version: 7.6

Overpriced and slow supportOverpriced and slow support.Version: 7.15.1

Terrible Frustrating UIThe crop screen is poorly designed; it’s too easy to double tap and reset the cropping guide. Furthermore, accidentally tapping “apply to all” will ruin all your previous work (deleting 300 pages worth of manual cropping is NOT fun). The “edit” interface is even worse. Try selecting pages to rearrange the order; it’s a disaster with inconsistent and unexpected behavior that will basically ruin all the work you put into scanning a book. This happened to me on two different book scans (the second time being extra careful). Terrible terrible UI design. Shameful. Bottom line: this app was designed by some low paid devs who don’t care about the quality of their work. I will be cancelling payment and looking elsewhere. I would advise you do the same..Version: 6.9.7

Good when it works, absolutely frustrating when it doesn’tI paid the full amount for this on the basis of reviews and, when it works, it scans well, quite quickly, and has very good OCR. However, having used it for only two days, the need to connect to the Abbyy server over the internet to use even its basic scan features is posing a serious problem. Often I get an ‘Internal server error’ message from the app when using it to scan, preventing it from completing the scan, and have no way to resolve this problem. Worse, when it does this half way through scanning a long document, you lose all your progress with the pages scanned. 3 hours trying to scan 50 pages and I’ve still not even managed to get this to work. I can find no assistance for this on the net and am now stuck with an app that cost over £50 and is extremely unreliable. Very frustrating..Version: 6.9.7

Recent issuesGreat app works smoothly until the last update... now frequently can’t recognise scanned pages. Please fix this bug!.Version: 7.1.1

DisappointingThis app had so much potential, the auto scanning of pages is fast and gave good first impressions. Unfortunately the file management and editing abilities let this app down completely almost rendering it unusable. Firstly, you can not insert pages or move pages around once you’ve saved a scan. Secondly, you can not run the word detection on a file with more than 100 pages. Disappointing. I will be cancelling my subscription..Version: 6.9.8

Not happy with this appBook scan function does not work - it deletes every other page when taking open book format - hopeless and time wasting.Version: 7.14.1

EhNot much to it..Version: 15.6.1

Comparing what you getFine scan is not as good at recognition as some other products. The accuracy of OCR generally still has not reached an acceptable level. I have another app Scanner Pro by Readdle that I paid upfront for and it’s better. Also they (currently) do not want you to pay a subscription for continuous use. Great if you’re a business, but if you are a home user then I’d go for a prepaid app like the aforementioned..Version: 7.0.2

PotentialAfter much frustration, I have managed to get this App to work on my iPad and iPhone but success is slow and seems to depend a lot on light. As someone who needs to use the access features, this is a useful additional tool..Version: 7.6

Needs word supportAdd Microsoft word support. It’s a rip off otherwise. Much cheaper apps doing it........Version: 6.9.8

Horror App - Cash Cow for AbbyyThis App is all about income for Abbyy. They have taken my late 2018 £46 one-time payment to the App Store for Fine Reader OCR Pro, already one of the most expensive apps, and failed to support it on more modern Mac OSs so that now I must Pay £69 every year to be able to use this at all. They advertise a hog-tied Free version, but that is almost useless and lasts just seven days. This company does not deserve me returning to it after this cynical technical manipulation designed purely for their cash flow. Horrible company..Version: 15.4.4

Not freeI gave this 2 instead of 1 star only because while it was really neat to see how this works, and it seems to do it as well as advertised, that’s all you get for free. This is probably a great app but I’ll never know because I never got an opportunity to properly try it before I was locked out in true bait and switch fashion. One is lead to believe that the user is limited to scanning/storing 5 pages at a time. In truth you get 5 attempts to scan and item and that’s it. I first fumbled with my phone while trying to hold a book open long enough to take a decent photo. Then by the time I figured out which type of text to convert it to, after a bit of trial-and-error, I discovered I had used up my 5 tries and felt like a total sucker. You can play then you have to pay. So enjoy those 5 minutes..Version: 7.7.5

Used to be freeBait and switch. Get used to using the app for document scanning and then they slap an enormous subscription fee on the app after several years..Version: 7.15.5

Nothing works!Crashes. Doesn’t send to iCloud. Recognition not working.Version: 15.4.4

Can’t open any file on iPadThis cannot open any file on iPad, only a photo. There is no ‘open file’ option within the app and the app is not an option to open any file using the ‘share’ function. The directions in the FAQ for opening files on iPad are completely incorrect and bizarre..Version: 7.7.5

New to AbbyExtremely poor introductory documentation foe someone new to Abby...and even harder to find out where to go to get started.... I paid for unlimited access and am totally frustrated Jdv1.Version: 7.15.2

Too muchIf you want a simple scanner this is not for you. It tries to get you to upgrade constantly and has all kinds of features I don’t need. Maybe for some people but not for me. At the very end of my simple insurance card scans they show a thumbnail of the documents and the word - recognize. What? Do I recognize my own documents? Yes. I tapped it ... it looked like it was going to re-format the document. So I didn’t recognize it! Now. Did it go through? How long do I have to spend sending a four page insurance card to the person billing me. I reduce the stars to one!.Version: 7.6

Not IOS friendlyAt first sight, the reviews of this app were encouraging, but the reality is that it offers little practical result if you just want use the std IOS apps like notes, pages or PDF entries in iBooks for the destination of what you scan. By contrast, I can take a photo on my iPad, convert it to a PDF image in iBooks or copy the image into a note in about 20 seconds. If I upgrade to iOS 11, then there are further editing tools to use in iBooks as well. So the only advantage to me would be the ability to edit/copy/paste the actual text, which with this app, requires far more investment in my time and other text handling apps, which I don't want just to get some occasional editable text. I also think that needing a connection for the app to work is more to do with the developer's marketing and income. They claim that their app is too big, several of my navigation apps for Europe are in excess of 1GB which is bigger than their 800MB. There are plenty of places where you are lucky to get an (E)dge connection, never mind a faster 3/4G link or free wifi..Version: 6.6.2

Can't fault itWorks very well and loving the iCloud feature.Version: 6.5

Not good at curved booksI am hoping to scan books, but the compensation for open pages is straight lines, not curved. So I have to flatten the books rather than letting them curl open. This stresses the spines. I did wonder why my scans were black and white, but this was a setting I was able to change later, although not intuitively. It think this should be a setting under Settings..Version: 7.7.9

Best OCR app I’ve used to dateOCR is not a perfect science, but I think that this app is about as good as it gets for most purposes. Very pleased with the accuracy, even on substandard originals. UPDATE: since updating to iOS and iPadOS 13, handoff of mail docs to FineScanner seems to be broken. I’m disappointed that this was not addressed proactively or quickly. I.Version: 7.5

ReviewPoor results from the iPhone.Version: 6.9.4

Expensive for sub par execution in classThe OCR is great, everyone that has ever looked into this knows ABBYY is about as good as the tech can be, but it suffers from poor execution in the app. 1.) It is not as fast as other, cheaper scanner apps 2.) edge and boundary detection is spotty 3.) you can auto-upload to cloud services, but for some bizarre reason the only option is to auto upload BEFORE doing the OCR. So the process goes: snap document-autoupload-select manually to perform OCR-manually upload doc to cloud after recognition 4.) this is important to note because recognition can take a long time. There is no option to locally OCR your doc, it has to be bounced around the world first 5.) because of all of the above it is very difficult to get a good workflow going and keep track of what you have or haven’t uploaded to your records if you’re doing a large pile of scans. Do yourself a favour and only buy this if it significantly improves or you just have a thing for paperless software.Version: 6.9.9

It used to work greatUpdate- the reply from the company was useless, providing the instructions to cancel my subscription. Thank you, I did that already. Will you return my money? I already paid for the annual use, but now it’s not letting me use it unless I upgrade to premium (1 more $) I’m already paying but can scan a single page? Also, at some point last year scans started to be blurry and the auto paper stopped working well.. :( disappointing....Version: 8.0.1

Was a good appIt was a good app but now you have to pay like a professional scanner.Version: 6.9.7
