Riven (Legacy) for iPadOS for Positive User Reviews

Great! What amazes me most about Riven I think is just how GOOD this game still looks after all these years. Granted the old renders look pretty lo fi by modern standards, but if you take into account that this game came out in 1997, I think the 3D here could give a lot of modern games a run for their money. It would be a painstaking endeavor, maybe too much to hope for, but if this was re-rendered to take advantage of the iPad's Retina display and somehow compressed or split into chapters to meet size requirements...well, alrighty then. In terms of a game's ability to draw the player into the virtual world, there have been few made since Riven that can even compete. As far as I am concerned, Riven was and is the final word on video games..Version: 1.0.16

Ooh, I'd been waiting for this!I was hoping they'd bring out Riven for the iPad. I loved being able to immerse myself in the original Myst again, and the sequel has far more scope and a better storyline. Compared to the original Myst, Riven is better in every sense - but compared to modern games, it does feel its age. You may find that the movements feel clunky, you can see the low resolution (especially during animations) and the lack of background animations such as ripples in water is quite noticeable now. Nevertheless, there's no faulting the storyline, nor the undeniable beauty of the Age of Riven (even though the original graphics don't do it justice). Although it's costly for an iPad app, I have found it to be a worthy buy. Riven is a gem from a time when this kind of quality was without equal, and most games - even those with polished graphics, crafted for the modern age - still cannot equal it now..Version: 1.2.0

Puzzles, Storyline, & Gameplay- It's All GoodAfter replaying RealMyst, I was kind of wary about getting Riven based on reviews that say gameplay can be pretty choppy. I found a great demo that features the game trailer & finally could not resist. With very challenging, detailed puzzles & a deep storyline, I find nothing wrong with a little choppiness in gameplay. It's not an arcade game, it's an involved game for serious puzzlers and there is no need for speed! The graphics & videos are beautiful!.Version: 1.5.2

BrilliantThe best of the Myst series. Hope they still bring the rest to ipad. Look behind doors, have a pen and pad ready, keep the volume up. This is the epitome of an immersive game. Spent two years of my life in Uru. Wish I lived in Riven.Version: 1.1.2

Minor frame rate issuesI don't know if it's just the fact that it's in HD now or they had to compress the file to fit it on the iPad, but sometimes the frame rate on the animations is noticeably slow. I incurred the same problem with my Steam download. Never the less, I'm so happy this is on the iTunes Store. If you loved the original 5 disc set you'll love this..Version: 1.1.2

RivenI love this game and Myst!!!! I hope you will put the other games in the myst series on here soon..Version: 1.4.0

Loved itSome people complained about graphics... Didn't notice anything to detract me from the game. Pixelation wasn't 100% but I survived. I forgot how much fun the game was even tho' I think I cheated a lot when I initially played it. This time I got to enjoy the story even tho' I've played all the games and I'm waiting for the new one..Version: 1.1.2

Old school and I like it.I've played RealMyst; and while the graphics were beautiful, being able to go anywhere became a bit annoying. I found it difficult to control where I was going: while in the Library, if I didn't touch exactly where I wanted to go, I often found myself slammed up against a wall. At least with the pictures in Riven, I can only go in a limited number of directions. Looking into a window doesn't require finger acrobatics. I just have to point to the window. If you're a fan of the original, download it. If you want to look behind columns and around rocks that have nothing to do with the game, don't download it. If you think not being able to fully immerse yourself in the islands of Riven ruins the game, go download pictures of Aruba..Version: 1.0.16

Absolute Masterpiece!Words cannot begin to describe how amazing an experience this game truly is. I am in absolute awe of this game. I have been a gamer my entire life, and Riven is by far the most incredible, most engaging, and most rewarding gaming experience I've ever had. The sights and sounds are outstanding, and bring you right into the game where you feel like you become a part of the world of Riven while you explore, learn, and unravel the mysteries around you. At first it appears as though nothing makes sense, but as you explore, you discover more and more about the world and how everything logically fits together in such a genius way. The ultimate adventure game, it's a first hand exploration of an alternate civilization. The feeling of discovery and accomplishment is what Riven does so well that I consider it my favourite gaming experience of all time. The game features extremely intuitive controls as it feels almost as if it were made to be played on the iPad. The personal experience the iPad offers makes it an ideal platform as it's like having a world in the palm of your hands to explore. (And probably the closest thing to having your very own Linking Book to the world of Riven) If any of the crew happen to read this, thank you thank you so much for treating me to this once in a lifetime experience that I will never ever forget. I'm so pleased as well to be taking away from it a pretty thick book of notes and sketches I gathered over the course of the game. I highly recommend to anyone reading this to get a pencil and paper to accompany you through this game. This of course will help with the puzzles, but I also took to sketching pictures of anything I found interesting to look at, which was practically everything, haha. Thank you to the whole crew at Cyan Worlds. Thank you for this absolute masterpiece..Version: 1.1.2

Better than everWhile real myst is slow and buggy ( but beautiful looking) this version of Riven is good looking and works as it should, integrating some nice new touch features and keeping the original feel of the game. Better than the iPhone version which was also quite good. Now I hope they get to do the rest of the series!.Version: 1.0.16

Better than MystThis might be the best game in the series. Make more sequels! Can't get enough.Version: 1.2.0

Bring more Myst games to iPadWe meed more Myst games ported to iOS. Or can you make a real Riven like real Myst?.Version: 1.5.2

Loved!I played Myst/Riven/Myst III as a kid with my Dad. It gives me such nostalgia to be able to play them again and on my iPad too! They are exactly as I remember them too! The graphics are awesome! I’ve always loved the dialogue and the dynamic gameplay of these games, and you’ve captured it so well! Thank you for bringing these fabulous games to my iPad! Please, if I could make a request? Please, please make Myst III! Uru would be nice too, but please make Myst III! I often picture being able to play it on my iPad and long to do so!.Version: 1.5.2

Excellent Graphics! Excellent Atmosphere!I honestly cannot believe people complaining about the graphics. They are exceptional and together with the sound effects and music create an unparalleled atmosphere. The cut scenes e, the voice acting - all superb! I've downloaded and purchased and played more games than fit on my ipad but Riven is definitely one of the best. This is not a 3d rpg. If you want that I'd advise ravens word 2. This is a puzzle adventure and more in the genre of searching ne finding things as well as experimenting. This is brilliant. Graphics are superb. They've done an excellent job..Version: 1.0.16

Redownloading it for the 5th timeI have never looked up a walk through, I will finish this game one day… it has taken be many years. It’s a tough one but really good!.Version: 1.7.0

Awe .... Some. 2nd best game on iPad after realMyst. This is a beautifully done game, and the revamp is very nice. Play realMyst first. If you like that, you will definitely like this. Nobody makes games like this anymore. This and Myst were made at a time when 3D graphics were low quality, games were $100+, and you needed to understand computers to play them. Gamers wanted smart thinking beautiful games, and Myst was the best. Riven follows that quality with some improvement. I was hoping for a revamp to the quality of realMyst which has taken Myst to an amazingly fantastic level, and I would rate as the best game ever in iPad. This is not that, so I am a little disappointed. It is not the immersive 3D environment as is realMyst. It is mostly still images for each view, with video scenes filling the rest. But it is done so well, that once you get into it, you will appreciate how good it is without the full 3D. I wish there were more games like this..Version: 1.0.16

A timeless piece of artWhile I understand that Riven in gameplay might seem out of fashion today for people who are unaware of its original significance, it is important to not forget how old it is (and that it is for instance older than realMyst). Irrespective of that - I still find it's story as eerie and going under my skin as when I first played it. Wandering on this dying world, where every piece you see can be seen in context to the whole story. I know of no other game makers that ever applied such an artistic approach to making a game. But - you need to make time to appreciate its slowness that is much unlike today's rollercoaster rides..Version: 1.5.2

Simply stunningWhat a fantastic game. I played this 20 years ago and it still as accessible on the ipad as it was back on the PC. (If not more, I can play comfortably in a coffee shop). Whoever claims the graphics aren't good enough, what were they expecting? Some sort of upgrade. This world still looks beautiful frame by frame. Patience still needed to explore and find everything and the puzzle connections are still not beaten in modern games. $4 well spent, I am going to get my daughter to play (and love) this when she is older..Version: 1.4.0

MystGreat games. When is myst 3 exile coming to I pad?.Version: 1.2.0

Fantastic. This is a great game in a great series. I remember having up upgrade my PC to play it when it came our originally. Nice to see Rand and the guys bring it to iOS. Thanks Cyan!!.Version: 1.1.2

Love itI think the transition to iPad has been pretty successful. One of the problems of the game is the amount of time it takes to play, so being able to pick it up and put it down is really convenient. The game itself is as absorbing as ever. Just two concerns - can anyone tell me why I can't grab the manacles to rise up in the wigwam type trap? Is this an iPad functionality issue? Also, can we have the zip feature back please?.Version: 1.0.16

Atmospheric ClassicAnyone who knows adventure games already knows this is an absolute classic. My only gripe is that an ipad version absolutely MUST have a rotate option. As things stand you can only play charger-to-the-right. My electric socket is to the left of the bed . Bugger. Create an update to auto-rotate!.Version: 1.1.2

Riven for the IPadThis is a first class application ! If you bought this for the IPhone and now have it on your IPad then delete the IPhone app and buy this one instead. The original game is over 12 years old now ......but seeing it in this format, sharp and clear as the day it was released is truely wonderful. 5 minutes with this game ,....mind and wear headphones.....and you'll see why it is still classed as one of the best point and click adventure games every made. Calling it a game is a bit cruel.....cause it's more like a real world, some place not just to solve puzzles in....but a place to explore and travel around in....a place to visit like a tourist ! Go on and treat yourself to a great piece of art, both visually and audibly stunning !.Version: 1.0.16

Plays like an anthropology investigationOutstanding puzzles, outstanding story, completely immersive in the sense that you must figure out for yourself what is going on and what the heart of game is. Who are these people? Why are they hiding? What is up with the godlike iconography? Who would set up such an elaborate sacrifice ceremony? Who is pulling the strings? Best game ever. But very difficult..Version: 1.0.16

Loved itHope they put other Myst games on iPad.Version: 1.5.2

IPad and Riven were meant for one anotherPlaying Riven on the iPad is like being able to reach in and touch the game. Riven has just been waiting for the iPad to come along and make it the kind of game it always wanted to be. Riven is the 'Dark Side of the Moon' of video games!.Version: 1.0.16

Excellent port of the original!Jolly Rogers's review is a poor one. He is comparing a game that is based on 90's tech to the game of the year of 2012. This is akin to complaining about how bad pong looks compared to Crysis. This is a faithful port of the original Riven, which yes, is image based ( a glorified HyperCard stack ). None the less, the visuals are beautiful, the world is stunning, and the puzzles are very clever and elaborate. Perhaps Jolly's ADD got the better of him - this game has substantially more than the 2 or so hours of simple gameplay "The Room" offers ( don't get me wrong, the room is a great game, but I didn't finish Riven the first time in a single sitting!). If you are a CoD fanboy who values a game based on visuals and action and not quality of play or intrigue of story, then just like Jolly Rogers, you won't enjoy this game. The rest of us love this classic!.Version: 1.0.16

Great, really!Okay, please ignore the rants against this game. I bought the iPad version and the GOG version (PC) and I have been playing them side-by-side. To me, the iPad version looks better, sounds better, and plays better, swiping really adds to the enjoyment of the game. And the load times are almost non existent, real snappy on my iPad 3. The puzzles are tough (any version) and have always been since the original release. But the iPad version has "invisi-clues" type hints built in the game, so you don't even need to hunt for the many great walkthroughs available online. Riven is old school, but one of the best of that era. Since there probably will never be a "real" remake of this game for any platform (unlike Myst) this is as good as it's gonna get. Speaking of realMyst, unlike Riven I prefer the GOG version (PC) over the iPad (finished the game on both platforms). If you have never played Riven (or Myst) give them a spin. Go slow, get help, and savor the journey. And for goodness sake, don't whine about the $6 price. I bought these originally "back then" for $40 each, and my gaming rig was worth thousands of dollars. Skip a triple latte and give Rand Miller and the folks at Cyan what they deserve..Version: 1.0.16

Can't and won't ever stop playing.I really enjoy the Myst legacy due to its graphics, music, acting and most of all, its puzzles. Would like, if possible to also have the other three Myst games, Myst III: Exile, Myst IV: Revelations and Myst V: End Of Ages available as well as I've never IV or V and would love to as well as also being able to play Exile again..Version: 1.3.0

Still one of the bestStands up so well today, gorgeous game with beautiful art and challenging puzzles. It's still better than any other modern point and click I've played. Well worth the money spent..Version: 1.2.0

Incredibly challenging, but addicting.I played this on my PC with the 5 CDs it came with back in 1998. I played Myst first and enjoyed it, but Riven is the game that impressed me. The graphics were top notch for the time this was made and the improvement was so impressive that I could just stare at a scene for awhile and enjoy the view as if I was really there. Playing the game turns you into a bit of a snoop, a tinker of gadgets, knobs and switches, a thorough detective for clues, secret passages and doorways, and a bit of a thrill seeker- considering how real this game feels after awhile! Even though I used the hints on the Internet frequently to help me get through the game, I was captivated by every turn. The landscape is beautiful, colorful, similar to reality with an original touch. I had dreams about this game! I'm so excited the game makers have made this available for modern devices. I have played other sequels to Myst and Riven and they are just as captivating. I hope those will be available here as well. I miss them very much..Version: 1.2.0

Update pleasePlease update this app so hopefully when iOS 11 is out this game won't disappear. Other then that great app..Version: 1.2.0

At last!I've been waiting for this since announced - loved the pc game years ago; this is (so far) every bit as good. Rather dated interface - but you soon forget that because the puzzles are brilliant and the art and music are first-rate..Version: 1.0.16

A classic!Sure, the resolution is outdated and the iPad version lacks some of the additional gfx elements of the PC version. However, it doesn’t change the fact that Riven remains to be one of the best constructed game worlds ever and it is worth exploring it today as it would have been 20 yrs ago. (I’ve only played and finished this game 2 weeks ago the first time) You year people talk about Myst, but this surpasses it in every way!.Version: 1.3.0

More Myst Games on iPad!Although the graphics and controls are sort of old fashioned, they are the best and most challenging games ever beside Zork. They should get more Myst games on the iPad!.Version: 1.2.0

Great memoriesBrings back great memories - although the colour puzzle is just as bad for me as ever being not very colour literate... Getting a few pauses and had one crash but overall very good. Did the original have the zip to shortcuts? Or was that a later game? If so would be good if these could be added to zip through some walkways etc. Great though..Version: 1.0.16

Thank you for the update!Oldie but goodie!.Version: 1.5.1

Fabulous, wondrous, gloriousOkay, let's clear up a few of the low score reviews. Yes the gameplay is not smooth as in Myst and is a series of images that you move through but, as the app info states, they cannot get any greater resolution into the app. If you are playing games for how they look then Riven is not for you anyway because this game is about substance not style. Having said that the style is pretty sensational. Just play a Big Fish game and then look around the fantastically realised world of Riven and there really is no comparison. The game, like Myst, requires you just to wander through an entire world, beautifully rendered, and to try and work out what the hell is going on!! Layers of information build up through scene after scene, island after island, until the whole story unfurls and leads to any number of conclusions. The first time I played it I was killed!!! This game is like real life. Some of the machines, interactions, places are actually of no use in your quest but they are still there as they would be in real life. It is up to you to apply the grey matter and work out what is needed to escape the world and save the lead characters. This app is an experience (I hesitate to call it a game) and if you don't download it because of its screen transition then you are missing out on something wonderful. Use a pen and paper, take some notes and use as few hints as you can. The extensive hints can tell you all you need to know but just use them to point you in the right direction when you are absolutely stuck. This is like being on a new world. The game does not force itself on you, there is very little music to force you along or create some melodramatic atmosphere. You could just sit down and watch the sea if you wanted! You wander, you learn, you solve and, hopefully, succeed. The main thing is to give yourself over to the game and enjoy the experience. I hope there is another in the pipeline.....Version: 1.0.16

An incredible experience. One of the best games on the iPadI played this back in 1997 (but was not able to solve and complete the game). I chanced upon it in the App Store and was ecstatic that it is as immersive as I remembered and I finally finished riven. Age has not diminished Riven..Version: 1.3.0

SuperbAfter playing the room and room 2 I hunted for something similar.... And found Riven. This is a peaceful, relaxing yet challenging game (must confess I am stuck!) I adore roaming from island to island, underwater and enjoying the beautiful graphics. Will try Myst soon. Five stars as it really does deserve it!!.Version: 1.1.2

OutstandingI just finished realMyst and LOVED IT! It was an immersive experience because of the fluidity of the controls. This is a bit clunkier but I loved it anyway. Full immersion game..Version: 1.3.0

RivenFinally after a decade I can return to Riven. When the PC version no longer played on my updated modern PC software it felt like I had lost a good friend. Finally this wonderful adventure is accessible again on my iPad and can now be played anywhere. No it does not have modern slick technology, but the gorgeous visuals, the awesome music and the challenging puzzles have never been equalled. Forget the ubiquitous shooting games of today and relax in Riven. Thank you iOS.Version: 1.0.16

WonderfulRiven on the iPad is amazing. I played the PC version twice through many years ago. This iPad version is seductive and enjoyable. Although RealMyst has more cinematic graphics, Riven plays comfortably and pulls a person in. The intelligence lies in the world design and the puzzles. I'm enjoying many hours of exploring the (beautiful) world and solving the puzzles..Version: 1.0.16

GreatReally great blast from the past, seems an ideal game format for iPad , I hope that the other titles in this sequence are soon ported to iPad too.Version: 1.0.16

Worth the upgradeA must for Myst fans ! Definitely worth the upgrade if you only have the iPhone version. Not the crispest of graphics, but it's comparable with the original PC version. A good job on a port of an older classic and still looks good on a retina display. I've always loved Riven. Good value for money, challenging puzzles, great story, game play seems to go on forever ... it's huge. No one makes games like this anymore..Version: 1.0.16

Deserves 5 stars, Lo-Res thoughI give it 5 stars because it deserves it because of the classic nature of the game. iPad implementation is fine accept that the images are low res...this is a terrible tragedy since the big selling point of the original Riven was its magnificent graphics....which are clearly lacking here. I would gladly pay the price in money and memory for a high res version. The implementation of the companion iPad realMyst is SO BEAUTIFULLY DONE, that I was hoping the same for this Riven....but, sadly, low res pictures..Version: 1.3.0

Riven is back, at slightly better than it already was!Born in 1992, this game was one of the first PC games I ever truly played. In its time, Riven offered an incredibly challenging, almost academic play style if you had any hopes of actually completing it you needed to write things down. Now almost a decade later we are lucky enough to have Riven on the iPad. You can't blame its dated nature as it was released long before a smartphone or tablet was even consider, but the game's beauty and immersive environments still do it a justice. If you are expecting a shooter or something that plays like a game you might buy today, this won't be for you. However, this was never the purpose of Riven and if you're at all familiar with the series you would know this. This game is perfect for a slow afternoon or killing time on the go. It essentially challenges your mind rather than your fingertips, and for that reason, you'll never forget this game. ITS A MUST PLAY! Enjoy!.Version: 1.0.16

Best game of all time.Riven is probably the best adventure game of all time. This game was originally on pc in 1997 and required 5 CDs to play. Now it fits on my iPad! Everything about riven is perfectly designed, the game has so many nuances and little details that make it an immersive and realistic world. The player is challenged to rescue Catherine the wife of atrus who has been trapped on a world called riven. The story is great and is pieced together with journals, sequences with live action actors, and the environments and islands help you understand, gehn the games bad guy and his world riven..Version: 1.2.0

AwesomeI love playing this games. I’m so glad to play riven again. Lot easier to play on iPad then on the pc. Huge fan..Version: 1.6.0

StunningExcellent port of one of the best video games ever made. Being on the iPad makes it super convenient, only downside of this particular version is scaled down image quality but that’s a minor inconvenience.Version: 1.4.0

Still holds up!Played this game with my kids and they were enthralled by it! After so many years, this game still holds up. I hope Cyan will port Myst V to iOS and Ubisoft will port Myst 3 and 4 to iOS too..Version: 1.3.0

Had hoped for iPad optimised version, but it is very pixelatedThis is still the same great game as it always was, but I had hoped that they had remastered it so the movies wouldn't be as pixelated and images wouldn't be as downsampled / low resolution. I know this was originally created in the stone ages of computing, but assuming they still have the original assets and 3D models stored somewhere, they could have rerendered everything at a much higher resolution, and with better video codecs. Anyway, still a great game. I never finished it on the PC back in the days, so this is my chance..Version: 1.0.16

Love it !High Quality Adventure game! Played this when it first came out on the PC but never got to finish it. Graphics and sound track are as superb as i remember and help to immerse you in the game. Its best played with earphones to appreciate the sound track though. Worth every penny..Version: 1.0.16

True to the originalA good port, provided you can bare the graphics. Be aware that this game is almost two decades old and was designed for very old computers which, at the time, could not handle 'HD' graphics, and cyan have already said that the assets cannot be re-rendered in high definition. You'd expect that from an old game. That said, there are a few niggling issues which were annoying, such as videos not lining up perfectly with the static backgrounds, random glitchy green lines around some videos and every video being rendered at much lower fps than the original (why??). The controls translated to a touch screen, though. This is how riven is meant to be played!.Version: 1.2.0

Still a masterpiece of gaming historyThis game is not for everyone. If you were born after this game was made (1997) you may not appreciate how great it was and still is. This game is for nostalgia or to see how PC CD-ROM games (it came on 5 CD-ROMS) were made in the '90s. But if you are daring, what you will find here that you won't find on other iOS games is depth: there is an entire world here to explore with a full story backed by novels and other games in this series. You could play Myst first or you can start here and discover what happened on Riven through exploration and journal entries and occasional character interaction. It's a puzzle game where the entire Riven island is the puzzle. The game is a "slide show" because the 3D engines of the time weren't capable of rending graphics as detailed as the developers wanted so they pre-rendered each screen in high detail and you tap through the still images to navigate. The graphics are not Retina quality. I think they're using the original renders which are probably 800x600 or 1024x768 like on the PCs of the time..Version: 1.0.16

Riven is Simply Awesome!I enjoyed playing this game together with the Myst series way back in high school. So awesome to see this on iPad. It brought back so many memories and fun times. So worth getting and thoroughly enjoyable..Version: 1.2.0

Highly Recommended with One ProvisionThis app is a port of an old PC game. Like most adventure puzzle games - even those developed today, Riven did NOT have free roaming movement when it was developed, and this port doesn't have it either. It's a port, not a rewrite. Riven was the sequel to a PC game called Myst. The original version of Myst had the same kind of gameplay as this port, but in later years, Cyan released an updated version of Myst with free roaming movement and 3D graphics; this updated version of Myst was called realMyst, and realMyst was the version that was ported to the iPad. Unfortunately, this difference in graphics and movement between realMyst and Riven has led to a number of unfairly negative reviews and ratings for the Riven app due to the number of people who played realMyst as an app and expected the Riven app to have the same kind of free roaming movement. If the lack of free roaming movement will ruin the game for you, don't get this app. Although Riven is a sequel, you don't need to play Myst. However, Myst provides some interesting backstory for Riven, so if story is important to you, you might want to consider playing Myst first. The triumph of Riven's design was not the graphics or sound - though they were cutting edge when the game was first developed - but the integration of the puzzles into the game environment. Instead of using what has become the industry standard for adventure puzzle games in which the player has a random, meaningless puzzle pop up that he must solve in order to access the next screen or area, each "puzzle" in Riven has the player interacting with a realistic environment in which each object has a reason for being there beyond just to give the player puzzles to solve; the objects with which the player interacts in Riven all have a reason for being there to the characters who live in the world of Riven. Unlike most of today's adventure puzzle games which rely heavily on having the player hunt for a dozen or more random, meaningless hidden objects on a static screen in order to get a single useful inventory item that then usually must be applied to every interactive spot until the correct one is found, every object in Riven has meaning and purpose to the inhabitants of Riven. ** SPOILER ** Even the children's toy used to teach a player the symbols for D'ni numbers tells a chilling story of what life is like for Riven villagers. You have to take the time and make the effort to think about the implications of the things around you or you'll miss much of the game's story, but no matter how much time a player spends trying random actions on a difficult puzzle, when the solutions are finally revealed, they make sense. Riven is not a game for the impatient. It rewards people who are willing to take the time and make the effort to study the game's environment and to understand the story that is being unfolded through the environment itself rather than through extensive cutscenes. But that is what makes the game so immersive, despite the lack of free roaming movement. Taken purely from the point of view of story, atmosphere, and puzzles, Riven is the best game I've ever played..Version: 1.2.0

Yay!!Awesome, was stoked when Myst came on iPad, now Riven!!! So happy :-).Version: 1.1.2

Faithful to the originalThose who have complained about the pixelated graphics are just not getting the point. This port from PC game to iPad is as good as its going to get for now. The download is massive as it stands, how on earth do people expect the developers to upgrade each of the thousands of images to HD and fit it all in? As soon as I started the game, I was transported back to the time when this game was revolutionary, and it still has the wow factor IMHO. I loved riding the mag-lev again, felt the menace of Gehn's presence, enjoyed the endless scenic views, and the happy familiarity of most of the puzzles. I had not kept my original notebook, so a few things had me stumped for a while! I also have "The Room", and although I agree that the graphics, UI etc. are superior, I found the storytelling lacking and also it was very short (I finished in about 80 mins). With Riven, you are facing a challenge, do not expect to be done in a couple of hours. If you are stuck, please refer to the in game hints/guide. Immerse yourself in the story - listen, look at and touch everything you see. You are looking for clues, don't speed past anything. Enjoy!.Version: 1.0.16

Masterpiece!!I, like another reviewer, first played Riven in the late 1990’s on a pc. This iPad version is amazingly good although, as others have said, the resolution is not quite as good and some of the movements are jerky. Still, it is more than adequate. I also concur with some of the remarks of others who have said that it is the best adventure game ever; at least I have never seen/played one better. Myst was great but Riven is superb. Some of the puzzles are extremely challenging, but fair. This is an extremely absorbing and immersive game experience-very, very addicting! This production for iPad is also a great bargain- I seem to recall that the original PC version cost somewhere around $50 new in the 90’s..Version: 1.5.1

It's Riven and it's greatAfter reading some of the reviews for this game I felt like I needed to write something here. This is the classical point and click Riven. It's bizarre that some would consider this masterpiece as boring due to the fact that you "go for one picture to another" we all want a remake of Riven, but this does not imply that the original is boring, not even outdated given how beautiful this game looks on the iPad. I highly recommend it, it's unforgettable to visit World 5 of Gehn..Version: 1.5.2

Still HereFor me, Riven and Myst are the top two adventure games ever produced. One may need that to obsorb the following review. The bad: Game was assembled low-rez, and the animations are jerky, I assume to keep the size low enough to accommodate as many older machines as possible, thereby increasing profit. The original release was visually much nicer than this iPad version. The good: After so many years there is still nothing in the game world to match the creativity and style of this experience, though I have not seen obduction yet. Think about it, this game, though more like an interactive movie, contains all the elements of a Hollywood style production; trained actors, set design, costuming, audio/video engineers, lighting, script writing, etcetera. And it all comes together into a coherent and intriguing story. I can't name another game that comes close. I've been waiting for one but alas, it has not appeared. I do wonder about Rand's childhood. In the first installment he kills his sons, and the second his father who tries to kill him is jailed for life. That's rough man. Recommendations: If the original assets are still available, bring to I-devices a re-mastered hi-rez version so we can see Riven in its original detail. Or maybe Real Riven? Now that would be something to see! To Cyan: No one makes a game like you folks. Keep raising the bar..Version: 1.2.0
