✓ Incredible update to a classicFirst - I don't understand why any negative reviews exist. This is an amazing update to an amazing game. I bought Myst on the day it was first released in 1993, and immersed myself in the world for the next couple weeks. There were no hint guides, I had to figure everything out with a buddy who also got the game. The puzzles were fun and challenging - all that is here! But now it's not point and click, it's pure FLUID movement through these beautifully-crafted ages. Ever wonder what's at the back end of the "potato ship" (as my young son called the rail vehicle in Selenitic)? You can go have a look. It's nice to be able to do that in a world many of us were immersed in so long ago. There are a couple things I hope get updated... first, there are a couple places in the game that are extremely dark. It could bring your game to a complete standstill with the touch screen; the Mac version let you click your way out, but the touch screen gives no indication where you can go. Potentially a big problem. Second: it is awkward and difficult to have your finger blocking the screen while you play. This is not the best way to play IMO, a virtual joypad (user-defined) would be much better. I never use controls like this when I have another option, I hope Cyan fixes this in an update in case I want to play it again in the future. But overall I still give it five stars. ✓ So much love!I played Myst when it released in 1993 and it was a game my parents and I loved and hated cause it was so frustrating on the puzzles but very well done of a challenge! When they made the guide later on after countless times trying the puzzles together, It was easier for us all to enjoy it even more, immersed in to the world of Myst and finish it. Years later after grown up and understand the puzzles more thoroughly, I played Myst again, Riven when released and the other Mysts later on that came after and enjoyed them all. Now present day, 31 years old and seen that Myst and Riven has came to the Apple community, I immediately purchased realMyst and Riven and dwelled right back in the nostalgia world! This version is a updated graphics and real swipe and turn based that was not in the original and I loved it! ✓ Love Myst!!I don’t think that the 1 Star reviews are justified at all. I used to play Myst as a kid and think that this game is so beautifully redone, with much better graphics and controls. I played this on an iPhone and personally got sucked into the Myst world really quickly, always looking forward to get back to it and solve the next puzzle and enjoying the whole atmosphere. Great for anyone who likes a good puzzle and interesting story. Contrary to what another reviewer said, there are plenty of hints in the menu. I didn’t experience crashes either. ✓ One of the bestAlmost uniquely amongst the reviewers we have not played the original so came to this game for the very first time. To us the graphics were a match for any other game out there on the iPad with nice extra details like sea birds and lightning. The sounds are great and the atmosphere is well constructed. Having got all that stuff out of the way you want to play the game and this is worth every penny. There is real depth to the story provided by the other ages and a great unfolding story. The entire worlds are a puzzle in themselves and the puzzles within the worlds are complex and cerebral. There is a nice sense of reality because you just have to wonder around until things start to fall into place unlike some games that seem to lead you inexorably along - if you don't solve the puzzles in Myst then you don't go anywhere. Okay, there are some niggles. Transition between screens can be a little slow and navigation can sometimes be a bit awkward. For example pulling levers etc can take a bit of practise but if this annoys you then you haven't really got into the game - it's not about rushing around or charging from one place to the next - there's no timescale. There is a strange tranquility to playing the game and a feeling of reality. The game can be a real challenge - read the books, take some notes and take your time. Use the hints sparingly and enjoy one of the best!.Version: 1.0.4

✓ Perfect Update for my new iPadI bought the original when it was released for the PC years (decades, actually) ago, and was hooked. When I got smart and bought a Mac, this version had just been released. What a joy it was, especially after a long day of work and school and carrying for a sick parent, to come home and visit Myst and it’s wonders in real time and just explore. ✓ Worth the purchase even with some issuesPlease work on the navigation. A lot of wasted time getting stuck while moving around and trying to get into position to tap something. ✓ Wow flashback from 30 years agoThe graphics rendering quality does look a little dated but appropriate for a vintage game revival, but it is still quite beautiful and mesmerizing at the same time. Do yourself a favor and play the game without outside aid. The puzzles are well constructed, and I am amazed that the upgrade has maintained the look and feel of the original. Good thing about having a bad memory is that apart from some visuals I recognize, I feel like I’m playing a brand new game. Myst is still rock solid and a unique experience today..Version: 1.3.2
✓ Excellent Port and UpgradeThis game is an excellent port of the original Myst game. Frankly, this is the game it should've been back in the day, but neither the computing power, nor the iPad, existed back then. This game not only shares the breathtaking graphics, ambience and surreal visuals of the originals, but surpasses it with a great 3D implementation that feels true to the original. The graphics are very good, the controls are well adapted to touchscreen, and new additions like the rain and lightning in the Stoneship world are fantastic. Additionally, there is a new age, the Rime Age, which gives us old fans something to look forward to. The negative comments are far too harsh. This is a port, not a new game, and performance tweaks, load times and minor glitches should be fixed/improved, but they don't interfere with the game. To the developers, I say, if you keep porting them, I'll keep buying them.The games are perfectly suited to tablets, and modern tablets have enough processing power and storage to hold this series..Version: 1.0.4
✓ RealMyst - a must for the iPadFirst played this game under Windows way back when it first appeared, played later versions as well, but never got round to finishing them. This is a classic game and has transferred well to the iPad, ok so it's not all HD graphics, who cares. It has retained some of its original feel and with this iPad version you can just pick it up and play this 'thinking' game anytime. ✓ AwesomeThis is one of the best puzzle solving and exploration games ever made, but its only for people who want to take their time and think their way through things. It works great with the iPad interface, instead of taking notes you can just take a screen shot of anything important. Recently updated to an iPhone X and wanted to see pretty graphics on a pretty screen but ran into an issue, the virtual home button/bar (swipe up! ;-) impedes reaching the settings menu! Strange and beautiful lands to explore, good controls, puzzles to solve (the solutions are all entirely logical), and most importantly for me there's no "hidden object" boredom. ✓ An old classic on a new platform.Ah, Myst... the original benchmark for puzzle games. This old masterpiece has now been rebuilt for a touch interface, and it's better than ever. I have now played realMyst on two different devices. On an older iPad, the graphics don't do the game justice and it takes ages to link... but on a newer device, not only does the game load much faster but the graphics are as sharp as a new razor. The Retina display brings out the best in this game, preserving the beauty and detail of Myst while allowing seamless movement through each age. ✓ Simply stunning a game for adultsI'm so angry at the stupid 2 star reviews for a game that is just breathtaking in every way. No doubt these ppl would have suited candy crush. I only wish games today were this good, the room series are good but myst is the original. The part in the water that 1 reviewer thinks has crashed is part of the game! The generator switches off if you get it wrong.... I suggest buying a compass. ✓ Great game with a bug at the end! Ack!I really enjoyed playing RealMyst right until the end when I couldn’t get the interface to perform a simple task that then held up my finishing the whole game! I checked all the walkthroughs to be sure I wasn’t missing anything but I’m 99.9% sure there’s a bug in the game (it’s in the wooden cabin and to do with the boiler...) Anyway, I would GREATLY appreciate this being fixed so I can actually finish the game! So frustrating after so many hours invested not to be able to finish. ✓ Nice portI enjoyed this version of Myst-the graphics were nice and I thought the lag was minimal-I always restart the iPad for graphic heavy games anyway-luckily my poor memory meant I'd forgotten a lot of the original game! Maybe a few speed settings would have been good as some areas the walking was too fast-maybe three taps for slow walking? One amusing bug in the stone ship age was where one of the boys rooms had fish in it ,some floating in mid air! I looked at Myst for iPhone, and it is terrible. This is totally reworked. Stunning graphics in an immersive 3D environment. On iPad 2, I found performance excellent, so I do not understand comments people have made about performance. Great puzzles and hard to put down. It is difficult, so if you are not up to a challenge, forget this game. There are hints available through a web link if you get stuck, so anyone can work it out. There are a few things that could use polishing though. Loading areas during gameplay takes a smidgen out of the atmosphere while playing the game. And the controls take a bit to get used to. ✓ Still a classic.Having grown up with Myst, and since I had played the original this game is still just as beautiful and nostalgic as it's ever been. The controls (will always be sort of clunky on a touchscreen) are minimalistic and very easy to grasp. It was great having full access to areas as well with realMyst. And while the graphics clearly take a plunge since the original and its adaptations on the PC it's still easy to lose yourself with a set of headphones in the dark. ✓ Solution for stuck in link screen loopI had the same problem at one point, I believe it happened because I closed the game while on the Saved Games Menu...but not sure. To get out of that loop, at one point during the loop you will see those three short bars at the bottom centre of your screen, quickly touch the bars and slide the screen up. This will open your Saved Games Menu, from here just touch the very top saved game and you are good to go. Other than that small problem, I played this game on my iPad Pro and it was fantastic..Version: 1.3.0

I found it completely immersive then and I am finding it just as addictive now. The modern graphics and touch movement controls are enormous improvements. Graphically very sharp and impressive, there is quiet bad delays between doorways and at loading screen, and yes movement and progression is a little slow but overall fantastic. ✓ Excellent Game!I replayed this game after many years and it was just the thing to pass the them during the Covid Quarantine. The controls on iPad were flawless and it really helped immerse you deeper into the game. My only complaint is that there some textures and background items (trees) are sacrificed in this version, I can only assume it was to get it to fit/operate on iPad. ✓ Myst Saga, TIMELESSReal Myst, all I can say is WOW. I played the original Myst way back, and was amazing then. If you want a challenge with puzzles, this is the game to start with. As Riven is the second game in this 5 game series. No holding of your hand to get you through PUZZLES like the games of today. Ubisoft became what it is today because of Myst and the Miller brothers, Randy and Robyn. A great family game, intriguing story line, and concept of linking books to worlds written with the intricate Di'ni language. Mystery awaits. ✓ Nostalgic loveI first played this game when it was released 20 years ago and I was 15 years old; Dad had bought an amazing PC, a 486DX 33MHz with 4MB RAM, 40MB hard disk and 1x speed CD-ROM drive running Windows 3.1. Such a machine was worth $4,500 back then. ✓ Revisiting an old friend.Myst first appeared in the days of Windows 3 and was eventually updated up to Windows XP but not onto Vista or 7. I always enjoyed this series of exploration puzzle games, though sometimes you almost have to have the mind of a genius to solve some of the conundrums. (Which I don't possess!) I stumbled quite by chance that this first game is available for the iPad. I've only just downloaded it and obviously it will take a little getting used to navigating by touch, rather than by mouse, but I am very pleased indeed to be able to play an old favourite once again..Version: 1.0.15
✓ No crashes, seamless movementAwesome! I had never played Myst as a kid so it's great they made an iPad app. I kind of expected it to be buggy or stilted or crash a lot, but it was never any of those things! Not a single jerky movement or app crash during the entirety of the game. The game was fun, maybe not as challenging as I would like as an adult, but very good. Dow loading Riven now. One critique - it's really quite dark. I have to close all the curtains, turn off the lights, and turn my screen brightness all the way up whenever the gameplay is happening in an indoor location just to see the screen..Version: 1.0.15

✓ Still my favourite series after all these yearsI have loved the Myst games since I first saw that poster; indeed I can't believe I have only known about them for less than twenty years, they feel like lifelong companions. I've come to accept that they're not for everyone, but I wish they had been more popular. This version of realMyst lacks some features I miss, like the day/night cycles on Myst island and Selenitic, but for the blessing of having it in a form I can literally take anywhere (and still enjoy on a reasonable size screen) this is a small price to pay. Sadly I had to delete Riven after playing through it once as my iPad is the tiny version and I needed to make space, but if Exile, Revelation and Uru were also available in this form I would live on bread and water till I could acquire a more capacious one. No other games satisfy me like these. I long for the day when Cyan is back to full strength and hope that then they may perhaps return to the world of D'ni. ✓ An almost perfect recreation (but still REALLY good)This 3D rendering of Myst was a real treat for me. I've had a copy of Myst on pretty much every computer my family's ever owned, but was never able to solve the difficult puzzles as a kid in the 90s. As an adult it was a lot of fun to come back and actually make progress in this beautifully designed world. It offers pure nostalgic bliss and never stops delivering. It's not a perfect game however, at least not on the iPhone. The small screen required me to often lift my finger and replace it to continue my walk around any tight corner. The touch screen is very responsive and for the most part works excellently. But, almost every winding staircase and tight turn gives me grief every time I interact with it. I'm sure on the computer it's much better, but for $6 this game is still a real deal. I'd give it 5 stars if not for the periodically awkward controls..Version: 1.1.1
✓ Nice tryI was hoping to enjoy Myst on my iPad Air 2. The graphics and sound are great just like the original. However I found navigation to be cumbersome and I just gave up after trying to play a few times. Drag up from the bottom gets me the menu OR iPad quick settings. When I try to drag down from the top to close the menu I get notifications. In the game, movement didn't respond the way I expected. I was always fighting with the controls. I know I've been spoiled by Xon, but I just couldn't get comfortable with these controls..Version: 1.1.1

✓ Just like I remember but betterI bought the original Myst for the Mac back when it was first released. At the time the imagery was amazing with a great sound track and a cleaver use of Sound, Video, and puzzles. I have to admit I was a fan of the whole story line and bought the first two books. Last week I downloaded an old Macintosh emulator and the original Myst. 256 color 640x480 images with tiny little videos was very unimpressive. I bought this version for my iPad 4 and have to say It is true to the original and brings a nice immersive feel to the world of Myst with great quality. For those who are into modern video this may seem a bit dated, but it is great as far as I am concerned. I loved the addition of the Rime Age. I remembered a number of the puzzles and others felt like learning a new. I am looking forward to grabbing Riven for iPad too..Version: 1.1.1

And yes this did initially seem difficult to navigate in comparison . But after a while it's easy . The puzzles have more depth and require more figuring than room and room two. But there is much more game time in this game and much more imagination going on. Any clunky issues and freezing must have been fixed by the time I downloaded this game . ✓ Fantastic!I don't know what others are griping about! This is a beautiful version of one of the best games ever created. The controls are intuitive and the pauses to change scene are not at all an issue on the iPad 2. The only delay occurs when linking to a new age. I played it in iOS13 on an iPad and it worked great even with accessing the menu. No issues whatsoever. ✓ NostalgicIt’s been about 27 years since I had played Myst and it’s always held a soft spot in my heart. I played through this on the iPad Pro 11 and had no issues with performance as some others had mentioned. I found the finger drag controls a little annoying at first and wasn’t a fan of the locomotion through the world (definitely prefer the teleport option for this game) but after an hour or so of playing I started to get used to it. When I saw that was an iOS version I had to try it, and although realMyst delivers graphically updated experience, playing this game with a small screen and touch controls detracts from the enjoyment. ✓ Good with room for improvementThe iOS edition of realMyst is very good. Graphically, it appears somewhere between the original realMyst and the Masterpiece Edition (though it leans MUCH closer to the latter). It’s still grounded in game designed using what was I think either an early version of the Unreal engine or possibly even Quake, and considering realMyst was first released in like 2000, this results in some pretty low-polygon, blocky environments. Still, with the remaster, the devs have clearly tried to do what they can with textures to mask the underlying limits to the engine. This works better in some instances than others. Ground textures are generally fine, but elsewhere, textures are either somewhat stretched (gears in the Mechanical Age) or repeated in too close proximity. A good example of the latter is the brickwork on the power station on the main island of Myst. With those fundamentals out of the way, the room for improvement specifically in the iOS version of realMyst is in the controls. The touch controls at a basic level are fine and make sense. They’re also clearly explained during brief tutorial messages. Being able to reverse and speed up your walking pace is very welcome. The major issue is the rotation speed. Spinning the camera, or in this case your ‘body’, is abysmally slow and takes multiple exaggerated swipes to spin the player even a fraction of a rotation. A simple toggle in the settings to allow you to increase the rotation speed would be so very welcome. Anyway, that’s about it. If you want to play the definitive version of realMyst on your phone with all of the graphical quirks of the original, but with a new polish, this is the game for you. Just keep in mind that camera/player rotation can be infuriatingly slow at times depending on what you’re trying to do (navigating terrain vs solving puzzles)..Version: 1.3.3

✓ True Classic'Tis the first video game I ever went out and bought, and it's a pleasure now to see it on an iphone6. This 3D version is a beautifully done advancement of the original, and will no doubt remain the timeless work of art that it is. The controls are smooth and seamless, as are the graphic renderings. I have yet to find a single glitch thru the entire story. Cyan obviously spent time polishing and upgrading the software. The graphics resolution on these new screens is startling. ✓ ReminiscentI played this game as a child. I don't know how many times I got extremely frustrated with trying to beat it. However, after years of play (I would shelve the game for a time in anger before picking it up again) I learned many things. How to look at my surroundings, how to listen to sounds, how to adapt and overcome. Once I finally beat the game it took a place in my heart as one of the best of all time. I honestly attribute this game and the rest of the Myst franchise with making me a more intuitive person. I have benefited greatly. This was not just a game, this was a learning experience.
