MyStuff2 Pro for Negative User Reviews

How do I use it?Now, I’m a techie, and I can see how to set up categories and pick lists etc but I’m blowed if I can figure out how to actually add items! Doesn’t seem very intuitive to me so far..Version: 7.4.9

Caveat Emptor!Do not buy this app! It used to be good and now it is no longer fit for purpose if you wish to catalogue DVDs, CDs, etc. The developer denies that there is a problem when clearly there is. This app is a dead parrot!.Version: 6.5.1

Needs a UX designerThe first thing I wanted to do was to add stuff to MyStuff. I could not figure out how. I imagined a big “plus” button or something. Instead there were all kinds of mysterious other buttons, like a Σ. The app prompted me to create a database to store mystuff, but I don’t know how to put my stuff in there..Version: 7.2

Most non user friendly app EVERIve repeatedly tried to use his app. 1. The only categories that auto fill an item Name or Title, are the categories the app came with. 2. Everytime you open the app, check for updates EVERY TIME. If you try to scan an item in, the barcode search spin won’t stop and the cancel button wont work. 3. I dont want the Value taking up space when A category doesnt need it. There are more, but basically, what should be simple helpful app needs a text book of instructions. I wish I could scan an item, and whatever info is gathered, appears. At a minimum the item name should appear. Fire your coder and take a fresh look at the flow as if you've never used it. Or watch someone unfamiliar with this app or similar ones try and use it, then simplify and/or make a learning tool that shows how to build a category (I saw one video but it only manipulated what was there already) that allows users to scan a barcode and have the item name auto fill at the veryleast. What good is scanning in a barcode if only the barcode number fills in?! I do a lot of diy, and I live in “hurricane land” so I NEED this app to work!!! Take a Fresh Look please..Version: 7.1.2

OMG so BAAAAD!Downloaded this app for a trial run but the button to scan a new item is totally hidden! That is the one major function of this type of app - to scan barcodes to quickly add your item to a database - and I couldn’t find the CTA to initiate the process! Why would you bury the #1 action button and force the user to dig and dig! I could not complete the #1 test of “will this app find items from my collection and quickly add accurate data to a Database?” so it failed the test right off the bat..Version: 6.6

App keeps crashingApp has worked fine for years. Now every time I try to use the app it crashes. Please resolve this. Update 2/5/22. No response from developer. App crashes seconds after opening on both iPhone and iPad. App is useless now. Sure would like some guidance from developer..Version: 7.4.9

DisappointedOne of the reasons I bought this app is because of the barcode have yet to find one that is has read that actually recognised or connected to the product rubbish.Version: 3.0.8

No Dropbox, a big step backwardsI can't believe they're dropping Dropbox, a big step backwards for anyone wanting to use this for business or to share a database with someone. iCloud cannot sync to other users, this is not progress. Very poor, they sell you an app that works then they take one of the main features away. Might try and get my money back as I need Dropbox. Only good for personal use now..Version: 5.0

Used for years...still the best database out thereI’ve used MyStuff2 for years. It’s the only iPad database that allows any attachment you desire to import. If it were not for this major feature it just wouldn’t be a database. Update: 2021 Jan. I regret giving this app high marks in the past. Support was never answered. Since the newest updates I lost my purchased versions and restoring does’t work. No response from author so here is my post. Don’t buy unless you are willing to keep purchasing. There are alternatives.Version: 7.4.2

Hate this appI’ve had this for a decade perhaps. Stored and organized an entire household inventory. Be sure not to add passwords or passcodes as the developer cannot help you should you forget them. No amount of importing, copying or replacing will allow acces to your work. At one point I had 2 databases called default and was able to press cancel and guess my passcode. Unfortunately when I deleted the empty db called default, I could no longer use my good database without the password. All is lost.Version: 7.6.5

Scanner lookup issueWhen I look up a product using the scanner only the pictures are accounted for no details/names/description of the product! Please fix this issue!.Version: 6.6

Not sure what’s going on.....developer probably wants more moneyI have MyStuff2. And I have MyStuff2 Pro. I have just catalogued my books, TV and films on the app (Pro). But they are also on MyStuff2 Pro. I have 713 entries in these 3 categories. Today, I have tried to add more entries on MyStuff2 Pro. I cannot. I keep getting a message saying MyStuff2 Pro only allows for a limited number of items. I have 2 observations. Firstly, surely the limit isn’t 713 items? Just what I have? How random would that be?!?! Secondly, what is the point of paying for a “Pro” database that only gives you limited entries? If I want unrestricted items, having paid for the Pro version already, I now only have to pay £4.99 MORE. This stinks of rip off. Oh yes - I can still add items to MyStuff2 (not the Pro version) beyond the 713 entries. I think I shall be looking for an alternative app..Version: 6.5.1

What did I just get?I downloaded this app but nothing works. There is no way to add items or edit anything. It’s just a shell with no functionality. Maybe I’m supposed to pay to make it functional. I don’t know. I can’t figure it out..Version: 7.0.5

How to add quantity to my item?Does anyone know to add a quantity of 55 to my 8-32 screw item? It does not appear to have quantity field in this app to be able add the actual bean count quantity to keep track of my inventory of screws. I can enter 55 next to my title name of the item. But this is not a quantity field..Version: 8.0.5

Once loved- not nowI loved this app! Unfortunately I am looking for a replacement. It started acting strange a month ago and now completely freezes when I try to add an item or even look at my inventory..Version: 7.3.2

Gone down hillI have had this app for a long time and it used to be excellent particularly when it used Amazon to find scanned in items such as books and DVDs. The amazon facility was removed some time ago and there have been no updates of any kind for some time and it now frequently crashes. I wrote to the developer some weeks ago but I have had no response. Shame. Used to be excellent but not so reliable now with random crashes. Also the lack of the Amazon look up has reduced functionality considerably..Version: 5.8.1

Latest update has bricked the appAfter updating to the latest version I am unable to open the app. Can't even open it long enough to send crash data to the developer..Version: 5.7

No supportWhile I'm sure this is an incredibly powerful database app it's just too difficult too use without more tutorials and definitions of words used in the app. I want to catalogue a collection of fossils by type, genus, species, age, location etc. Unfortunately the app creator's support forum link on the app and on the website is dead. I'll see how I get on in the next week or so and if I get no further I will request a refund..Version: 4.1.1

Absolutely appalling.Having spent more than two hours trying to get this to work - you can’t even find a place to put the name of a Movie…. There are no instructions and the Support, assumes you can understand the terminology. I would not recommend this app under any circumstances. I have done a better job just creating colour coded lists in my Numbers app. You should do the same..Version: 7.4.9

CrashesI’ve had a few issues transferring data from my iPhone to my iPad and the app crashed over and over. Eventually it worked but it was frustrating. Don’t get me wrong this app is very useful and has many settings to enter item and customize but it can be overwhelming for non-techy people. Another issue I have is that it eats up a lot of data on your devices. I mean A LOT! Cataloguing approximately 300 item had used 4.6gb’s of space on my iPhone and only 200 items on my iPad it ate up a astounding 8.9gb’s, for some odd reason considering they are the same files. In some ways this is an apple issue since you can’t add memory to apple devices. Although you can store everything on the cloud but I’m old school and don’t like to pay anyone for “my stuff” ie. My data. Maybe I’ll look into a desktop version, but it’s the convenience of mobile devices that drew me to this app in the first place. The rating for me is actually 2.5 stars..Version: 7.4.9

Not user friendlyThere is no default home screen, I just made a new category and it somehow put all my old categories in it, this is the most UNfriendly app I have ever used. I give up. I just wanted something to log our home belongings in case of fire but this is not the one..Version: 7.1

I’m clearly too dim for this appLooking for a good home inventory app, downloaded this, but although I’m of at least of average intelligence and have a degree in IT, I was unable to work out how to add for first item. I gave up after that, anything that’s this difficult to use just ain’t worth bothering with..Version: 8.5.8

Can't give no stars for a ratingThere is an editing problem with this app acknowledged by the Support, it crashes regularly when adding text to a photo. On latest crash, wiped out 33 albums, had them backed up, but lost a days work, 40 photos that I will need to do again! Advised not to add text till app update. Simpler solution, have deleted the app. Over elaborate and unreliable. Can I have a refund please?.Version: 3.0.1

Developer stopped respondingI’m not sure about anyone else but developer stopped responding to emails months ago. App seems to crash on multiple devices now and crash reports sent receive no response either. Not sure this product is still supported. A lot of time and money spent in this product to only obtain dead space from developer..Version: 7.0.5

Already paid; functionality removed.Having paid for MyStuff2 and added many items to my database, the barcode functionality has now been removed. Instead, I appear to have to purchase the MyStuff2 Pro app to use this functionality. Really? I am not, and I would urge others not to purchase MyStuff2 Pro as the developers track record here would suggest in time they will disable something key in the app and invite its users to buy a new version. I’m fine with paying for a new app with new functionality, but that has to be my choice as a consumer; not forced upon me by disabling the functionality of the app I’ve already purchased. I would respectfully invite the developers to reinstate the barcode reader in MyStuff2 now and to respond to this comment..Version: 6.6.1

Was great at first but...No longer have the ability to enter data into program by scanning barcode or even entering the barcode manually. Now you have to download a photo of your cover and enter all information manually. :(.Version: 6.5.1

Slick app when it worksI have no criticism for the functionality of the app - it’s got a lot of power and flexibility. My big gripe is that MyStuff2 Pro is a downgrade from the old version, for a few reasons: 1) It’s really janky and prone to locking up. It shouldn’t take over 5 minutes to enter a single CD. 2). It’s really slow to save new entries. 2) The database you’re accessing is light on data. When I can succeed in getting a CD barcode to scan, it imports the title, sometimes a cover image...and nothing else! I still have to manually enter artist, genre, and format. App is now only marginally better than manually building a spreadsheet. Update: App no longer allows entry of new artist names in the music database. Took off a star from the review. Update: Dropped another star from the review. App no longer allows manual input of anything..Version: 6.6.3

Not helpfulI got this to keep track of what is in my cupboards. Completely useless! Can’t find any of the barcodes & you can’t add multiples of the same item (although you can add one item multiple times). Sorry I purchased it. Shall just create a spreadsheet..Version: 7.0.5

Was greatThis used to be a great app, last couple of updates makes it freeze up. Or crash and close have to try multiple times to get it to stay open. Been using it for years and it used to be a really great app.Version: 7.0.5

Lack of support gives poor ratingOk built app but it is still very buggy at times and the latest 32 March 2017 release doesn't fix issues. I've had no response to support emails. Shame as the Developer has clearly spent time designing this app. Reading other reviews the support seems to have ceased a year ago - so beware buying this app..Version: 5.7.2

Absolutely uselessWhat a shocking app , thoughtless design , to inflexible to be of any use. Kept crashing when loading pictures meaning you lost all that entry . No facility to add comments on items. Stupid!!!! You give a category a title then it keeps coming up as No value. Go to instructions , these are vague so they would require pictures which as you can guess there is none. Just not user friendly. Why dont you just confess up front to how much it is going to cost, what do you have to hide???? You get 15 items before they break the news of the real cost. Don’t bother with this useless app. They tried to be clever but all that has happened is it not useable. Just use a spreadsheet..Version: 7.0.5

Exporting is a NightmareIt took me seven months of periodically attempting to export my data to finally succeed. I would try periodically, got exasperated after an hour of long waits followed by error messages, and gave up for a while before trying again. I reached out to the developer when I first ran into issues, and he responded with things to try, but then tried to pin blame on Apple if none of his ideas worked (they didn’t). Today the stars aligned and I got a zip file to transfer off of my phone. It took about 40 minutes of attempts. Why did I keep trying? Because I foolishly spent three weeks doing a thorough home inventory and despaired at the idea of all that effort being wasted. Still, I should have given up long ago and will likely look for a new solution for the future. If I didn’t mind having my inventory exclusively on my phone (not particularly useful if I actually need to make a claim—or my phone is part of a loss) then I think this was a good app (4 stars of the export function worked reasonably well)..Version: 7.0.7

BrokenSetting up fresh and it asks to do iCloud sync, so I say yes...then CRASH. Start the app again CRASH. Uninstall and reinstall CRASH. Won't even run anymore. Fix this?.Version: 5.6

Crashes all the timeDifficult UI to work with, and then after you've entered all your data, it just crashes when trying to create a report. Created a 217 item database with pictures, and now I can only create a PDF report from it without images. If you try to include images it just crashes every time. I installed this on my iPad and iPhone, then paid to remove ads. However this only removes ads from the device you're using when you pay, not both, even though it's supposed to be a universal app. Complete waste of my money, time and effort..Version: 3.0.5

DreadfulI'm sure this app is a shining example of the database builder's art but I can't make head nor tail of it. I've been messing around with it for most of the day I've had it and I've come to the conclusion that this is the most arcane and unintuitive piece of software I've ever seen. I'm no wiser now than when I started. Stick to one of the really simple inventory apps, is my advice. Or you could borrow mine - I'm sure as heck not using it!.Version: 4.0.5

Disappointing…This app used to be great, but lately it crashes constantly, not to mention, randomly deleting items from my inventory. It used to update from my iPad to my phone, but now they no longer do that. I have tried restoring from a backup, but that no longer works on my phone. Very disappointing to have invested so much time, only to have it longer work..Version: 8.0.4

How to add “item data” and “item photos”?Please let me know how can I add “item data” and “item photos”? I created a new database for my clothes and also added different groups(based on category). But how can I add pictures of the cloths, how many do I have, things like that?? Otherwise this database would be no use for me! 😟.Version: 7.6.5

DatabustSo the default database is “read only” could not add any categories or entries inside categories …fine. I was able to create a new database and THAT one is read only. Why would anyone set a database app to have even a new db default to read only and impossible to use? Attempting to use this is like trying to drive a car rolling forward but with the keys out of the ignition, engine off, and steering wheel locked..Version: 7.4.9

GarbageAwful user experience. You would need a degree in engineering to get up and running with this app. Absolutely ZERO thought or design behind the dates user interface, and far too many options. Makes adding a single item an overwhelming and confusing task. Not user-friendly at all..Version: 7.4.5

Used to be betterData entry is more complicated with the app no longer supporting Amazon integration for product lookup via barcode and filling in of product information. Please bring back this feature!.Version: 5.8.1

Wasted money and, most of all, wasted time. Disrespectful developerI bought this a year ago, roughly, after I tested the free version and asked the developer several questions about it. He answered the questions very promptly while I was still shopping. Then I bought it and I started using it. I spent days creating the containers, taking pictures of the items and containers, etc. Than I noticed that the database was not really syncing between the iPhone and iPad. I messaged the developer from within the app. But I continued to spend days working with the app, thinking that, if I use only my iPhone to log the items in, I should still be ok until I sort the sync issue out with the developer. Now, that I bought it, it took threats that I am going to post a negative review to get the guy to answer, at about the rate of one answer per five messages. I have about 900 items in the database and a lot of containers. Each should have between one and five pictures. Now the pictures have disappeared in about 90% of the items. So I can't find what I'm looking in the app anymore. BUY THIS ONLY IF YOU HAVE WEEKS AND MONTHS WHEN YOU HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO THAN WORK WITH AN APP THAT WILL GIVE YOU THE ILLUSION OF ORGANIZATION WHILE, IN EFFECT, BEING WORSE THAN throwing all of your stuff in a big hole in the ground..Version: 6.6

Not easy to beginI just installed this app to organize my art, so I wanted to be able to take photos. I spent a while and cannot find the “add” or + sign, or any way to take a photo. So I have to delete this app and find another one that is more intuitive..Version: 7.0.7

Hard to useThere’s lots of options to search and track your stuff but it’s not very intuitive I haven’t been able to figure out how to add items to the inventory.Version: 7.0.5

There’s a limit to how many things! They make you pay for an upgrade once you reach a limit. Be nice to know before I spend so much time on here learning it and put my stuff in that there would be a limit to the free stuff. Now I have to pay almost $7.00.Version: 6.6.1

No longer the product it was!Having used this for many years and being very pleased with it, the app has become almost useless. I could enter details into a spreadsheet as quickly. The barcode scanner only seems to work on old books and will, if it works at all, only provide the title of the book. The cost/value currency is not fixed. It seems to default to $ all the time. Not useful if you live in a £ or € area. Having removed some of the default databases eg jewellery, that were present when first purchased I don’t seem to be able to get them back. For the price... I’d look somewhere else now and it’s a great shame as it was a simple, easy product that did what I wanted at first..Version: 6.5.1
