Guitar Fretboard Note Trainer for Positive User Reviews

What a great app!I’ve just started using this app alongside the guitar lessons app. I can see it’s going to be a great help in learning the fretboard. It’s the same high quality as the lessons app and I can use it whenever I get some spare time in the day.Version: 2.17

Super slick app and so effectiveI’ve put off learning the notes properly for 18 years so decided it’s definitely time to do something about that. Until now I had to work it out relative to the 6th string which is all I’d bothered to learn which takes far too long. Justin’s website and videos are so clear and effective (particularly the theory) that I thought I’d give his apps a go. Verdict - I’ve made more progress in one evening with this app than weeks of looking at diagrams. Don’t forget to check out the reference fretboard hidden away in the menu. I reckon it’s the most useful feature as you can choose which note you want to see and it shows you the pattern on the fretboard with no others confusing the issue. The different tests are a great way of proving you don’t know it properly yet and to go back to the reference chart. You might think you’ve got the hang of it with one test but the other trips you up. I think 5 minutes a day on this and massive progress will be made in no time..Version: 2.17

Restrict focus to E and A strings optionWith that feature this app would be perfect!.Version: 1.0

5*s to JustinA fun and effective way to learn the notes across the fretboard. It's good for killing the odd few minutes here and there, and works a charm. Cheers Justin, this is class. ...update. PLEASE remove the 'game-centre' from the app start up. It slows things down a great deal when you have a poor Internet connection and makes the whole app laggy - not what you want when you working against the clock to beat your high score.Version: 1.1

A Very Useful Tool to Learn the FretboardI like Justin's lessons and guitar tools. This is one of my favourites. It allows you to practice finding notes on the fretboard when I am away from the guitar. For this tool to be useful to you, you to should know the names of the notes on the 5th and 6th strings. Search for a quick lesson on that on YouTube, and then practice with this app. One thing that needs to be improved is that the notes all sound the same in two octaves. E.g. The thin E string has the same pitch as the E note on the 12 fret. Realistic notes would allow this tool to educate our ears. Finally, the app should also include the notes at the nut..Version: 1.1

GreatJust what I need to actually progress my playing. Good stuff.Version: 1.1

AwesomeAll three apps from Justin are top educational quality and value. Outstanding!.Version: 1.1

Simple and effective.I really like this app. It does exactly what I wanted with great presentation. If you’re wondering whether or not it’s effective in learning the notes- for me it absolutely has been..Version: 2.17

Great appAwesome app. Justin is the best online teacher there is, another great tool from him!.Version: 2.11

Great but only if you play in standard tuning!Great app but as a player who usually plays in Eb I am having to move all my answers a fret down; guess is still good for understanding the fretboard, but being able to adjust the tuning would be fantastic!.Version: 2.17

Great app!I love Justin's apps... they are from a guitarist's perspective! Better interface than most and does what it says on the tin. Allows for fretboard training several ways - naming notes or naming by fret and a few quiz modes. I really would like to see the ability to limit fret ranges and strings as well as a "smart" system where it revisits notes you got wrong more frequently which would make this 5 star. A note on the music staff option would really make it the best app out there. I long for the day Justin makes an app for guessing chords and scales!.Version: 1.0

Great AppI’m buying anything he is selling. Great App.Version: 2.17

Great appWorks well for me. Very handy reference tool too.Version: 2.17

Essential in Practice RoutineI have been using this app for a couple of months, and my knowledge of the fretboard has dramatically improved. This is reflected on my awareness whilst practicing and improvising. It doesn’t take long to practice every game 3 times a day, and trying to beat my record keeps me focused. Learning the fretboard properly was long overdue for me, and this app is now an essential component of my practice routine. Highly recommended!.Version: 2.17

Very Helpful! This is app is a great tool for quickly recognising all the notes on a fret board via four fun, and increasingly tricky games. You need some prior theory of notes and the way to find them, but this app helps you to recognise them quicker and quicker, eventually without the need for counting across the strings. Highly recommended!.Version: 1.0

Great App , helps you learn on the go.I really think this is a great app. When trying to find as much time as you can to learn/practice this is something you can use offline on the train so really handy. It really helps the position of the notes sink in. Great value for money, thanks Justin..Version: 2.11

Easy to useI really like this app. Very easy to use and really makes it easier to learn the notes. Thanks Justin!.Version: 2.00

Excellent learning resourceI’ve followed Justin on YouTube for quite a while and was very pleased to find this app. Justin is charming and has that wonderful accent which makes listening to his instruction an added bonus. He is very knowledgeable and shares tips and tricks that make learning easier. This app is definitely worth getting..Version: 2.17

Excellent and valuable tool!As usual, Justin has done an outstanding job of creating a useful and enjoyable way to improve our guitar skills. He has an uncommon knack for training and is truly the best at his craft. Bring us more, Justin, and thanks!.Version: 1.0

Fun and usefulI actually find this sort of therapeutic and fun to use. The fact it is teaching me something is a massive bonus..Version: 1.1

Best tool to memorize the fretboardUsing this app to memorize the fretboard turns the effort into a game - still challenging - but much more enjoyable..Version: 2.17

Great tool to learn the fretboardExcellent way to memorise the guitar neck..Version: 1.0

Adjusting fret dot markersGreat app, really helpful and well designed. But I'm wondering if one of the updates could include adjusting and the fret markers. Im a classical guitar student and I think it would just be another added benefit to the app. (Preferably subtracting the dots one by one) Thanks!.Version: 2.11

Success!I’ve been trying to learn the notes for years. This app finally got me across the line. And yes, I have tried others..Version: 2.11

Nice app but doesn't have a left-handed optionThis app is fantastic for right handed folks but doesn't have a left-handed toggle. Don't let this turn you away from the app if you're one of the majority but be warned if you're left-handed..Version: 1.1

Great little app!I'm getting faster at recalling the notes already I've only had this a few hours..Version: 1.0

Loving it!I've tried a few other fretboard apps but this one works. So simple and I can see the whole fretboard!.Version: 1.1

Pretty decent but could be a better. This is an OK first attempt. Adjusting the volume is a minor PITA. Should be adjustable from within the app. It would be awesome if the app could take audio input instead of just the little keyboard. I.e. Use a played note to verify..Version: 1.1

Super-useful and funI would recommend this app to guitarists of all abilities. It’s brilliant for learning ALL the notes on the fretboard (ie. those which have dual names eg. F#/Gb). And I reckon I’ll be using this for many years to come to stay sharp (see what I did there?). I’ve been playing to a good standard for over 30 years and had a lazy knowledge of the fretboard but now can name 100 notes and find 40 sets of six in 3mins. Bravo Justin!!! Keep up the brilliant work!! 👏👏.Version: 2.11

Took you a whileFinally.Version: 1.0

Fun and Supports learningThis app is fun and challenging. We become better guitarists when we are familiar with all of the notes on the fretboard. Justin has done a great job with this app. I'm going to use it with my guitar students. Thanks Justin..Version: 1.1

ThanksI only knew about this guy Justin on the Internet. He's a great guy. I'm sure this product is very helpful just as Justin is. His mind and heart are in the right honest place. Thanks Justin..Version: 1.1

Great app any chance to expand it to 22 frets ?Great app any chance to expand it to 22 frets ?.Version: 2.17

A great appA really useful tool to help learn an essential bit of guitar knolwedge.Version: 1.1

Great start - few bugsWhen I saw a Justin Sandercoe App, I knew it was going to be good. In 10 minutes the Octaves Method stuck in my head better than in the previous 3 weeks. Perfect for where I am on Justin's intermediate method. There are a few bugs. Adjusting the volume is kludgy. Using the buttons on the iPad you could only adjust the volume when a note was playing, otherwise it was just adjusting the sound effects. Similar effect on the iPhone 5. When a note wasn't actively ringing out, the buttons defaulted to the ringer. A few times the sound cut off entirely on the iPhone. I haven't tried the Memory Quiz options yet, but it is already worth more than the purchase price..Version: 1.1

Awesome app Justin is da homie!Cool app ;).Version: 1.0

EssentialFun to learn the fretboard and play at the same time. Very useful to practice some of the Music Theory lessons from Justin Guitars..Version: 2.17

Simple, reliable, effectiveYou can't always carry a guitar around with you but you can always carry this guitar fret board assistant in you smart whatever..Version: 1.1

Good Support from the developer! Was having an issue on quiz 2 where only the 5th, 10th and 12th fret were only showing up. I had selected whole notes only in the settings and those three frets are the only ones that have whole notes across the entire fret for those positions. The developers made fast contact with me via email and explained what was going on after I sent an inquiry..Version: 2.17

Really coolI had seen the launch of this app on his YouTube channel all those years ago and only now decided to purchase it and use. It’s really good as i just wanted to find a way to just keep learning the fret board at any time of the day..Version: 2.17

Excellent but will need an update for ios11Had a warning on the app that it will not work with ios11. Its a brilliant app. I do trust you will be updating it..Version: 1.1

Always worth itThanks, as ever, Justin!.Version: 1.0

Amazing appI bought Justin’s guitar theory PDF to understand a few basic rules on how to find notes by simply memorizing 6 notes on strings 5 and 6. After an hour on the app, I could name every note on the fretboard. Now I’m starting to use the timer to get quicker at finding them. Worth every penny. Well done, Justin. This app Rocks!.Version: 2.11

Most affordable most useful app ever developed!!Justin you are a hero for providing your service on donation bases, not many people on earth do that. Beside my review is not based on your generosity it's based on apps performance. ITS THE BEST APP I HAVE OWNED..Version: 1.1

Useful; Doesn’t include different tunings.I’ve played guitar for 4 years. I’m the lead guitarist for a metal band, and I’m having trouble writing new music because I don’t know theory. I figured I’d start at fretboard memorization. We mostly play in Drop C# and C# Standard, so I consequently need to learn the notes for both of those tunings. This app has helped me learn the notes for standard tuning, which is a great start. I feel that the app could be improved, however, by allowing you to customize your learning experience by selecting different tunings, or even simply by adjusting the open note of a string..Version: 2.17

Open strings and shapes?A great app. This is my first day. Can I suggest being able to name the open strings as well as fretted notes? Also it would be useful if the named notes remained on screen to help with memorising the shapes. Then you could manually select the next sequence..Version: 2.17

Elegantly amazing!I've only have had this on my phone a couple of minutes and can already tell it will serve as an amazing learning tool!!!.Version: 1.0

It worksI finally have the fretboard memorized..Version: 2.17

AwesomeWhat can I say, absolutely awesome, I can't seem to put it down since i have purchased it. Every little bit of time I have, i must have ago to improve my musical knowledge. It's only been less than a week and I have noticed an incredible difference already. Well worth it, you won't doubt this purchase I promise..Version: 1.0

Works great!I had struggled with learning the notes on the fretboard......once I started “playing” with this app like a game app.....using it a lot; I realized I was able to find & recognize notes all over the fretboard. The key is to “play” all of the “games” switching between them......the more you do the better you get! Kind of like “practice makes perfect”.......👍🏻 It works fine on my iPad with iOS 12.1.4 update. Thanks for making this app..Version: 2.11

ExcellentI love this app, and this man. Go to his website, I've learnt guitar for well under £150 watching this guy. Justinguitar.... It's all free. But I've donated some money...Version: 1.0

So helpful!I’ve played guitar casually for 20 years. Never learned more than a few landmark notes. After 2 hours with this app and I finally have a mental map of the whole fretboard. The simplicity and instant feedback is so helpful..Version: 2.17

Great for a beginnerAs a total newbie to learning guitar (68 year old) this is a fantastic tool to use. I would personally find name that note easier to use if the fret numbers were below the fret or even a dot below frets just like on a guitar. I find I am constantly counting the frets in my head to try to name the note..Version: 2.17

Fun learning the fret boardThis is an excellent app for the price. Well put together and fun to use. Highly recommended.Version: 2.17

ExcellentExcellent app as always from Justinguitar.Version: 1.1

Justin rocks! This app is great. He makes a competitive game of learning the notes of the fingerboard. I have bought most of what he sells and every product I've bought, this app included, has helped me improve my skills. You won't regret this app :-).Version: 1.1

Big help! This app made a HUGE difference in my ability to find my way around the fretboard. Thanks, Justin!.Version: 1.1

Really usefulJust buy it.Version: 1.0

It worksTried different systems before but this one works. It is a bit of a game that makes it good and best part is customisation so you can start with one string and from there add replace as you wish. Pleased to have found this.Version: 2.17

Very UsefulI recently started learning the fretboard and have been working on increasing my speed with identifying and playing notes. Although I prefer practicing on the real thing, this app is great when away from the guitar and has helped me improve much faster. Highly recommend it to supplement your normal practice routine..Version: 2.17

Really useful appGreat idea on how to memorise the notes on the fretboard whilst being away from your guitar. I use this on the train and at work and it is finally managing to sink in, different test methods make you think about the notes in a few different ways. The one issue I had though was I had to disable the game centre function as it kept locking up the app which was frustrating in timed mode..Version: 1.0

Pretty GoodI’ve played guitar for a while but until now I’d never bothered to learn the fretboard notes. (I wish I had now). This app is a great help when you can’t use a real guitar. I use it at lunchtimes while I’m in the office. It’s well thought out by someone that knows a lot about teaching and improving guitar players. Well worth the investment..Version: 2.17

Great app!Great app to help the guitarist learn the fretboard notes. Good job Justin!.Version: 1.0

A must for all guitar levelsHaving started from scratch learning guitar using Justin’s lessons I found this invaluable once I reached the end of Beginner level one. It is a fun way to learn all the note positions on the guitar neck. Ideal for anyone wanting to go beyond beginner level and learn Music Theory. On a more basic level it’s a great way to test and improve your memory..Version: 2.17

Great app, could be betterGreat app, could be even better by presenting the neck the way the player would see it, that is from above the thick E string and slightly tilt. This would drastically help users of this app! Plus add another challenge like intervals, as mentioned by others, i.e for a given note, find where the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, etc are in the vicinity of that note, not along the same string obviously...along with naming those notes. Thanks..Version: 2.11

Great appIf you like Justin , you'll like his app..Version: 1.1

IncredibleI bought this app and within a week I had mastered the entire fretboard. If you think that music theory is absolutely indispensable for guitar players, then you must get this app..Version: 1.1

Weirdly addictive! As Justin bangs on on his videos about learning the notes on the neck I thought I’d give this a go... and so far I’m quite impressed. Of course you’ll only get out of it what you’re prepared to put in but if you make the effort then this little app becomes quite addictive to play. You can feel yourself getting better and better after a short time but when you try the quizzes you realise more practise is needed! After watching many Justin videos I really didn’t mind paying for it either so overall I’m very pleased having purchased this app. Some improvements I’d like to see is having different note sounds so actual guitar sounds (clean and distorted) in addition to piano. I’d also like to see the option on Name the Note for the blue dots to quickly fade away instead of staying visible like the red wrong notes do as I’m finding I’m using the pattern now instead of learning the notes individually on the strings..Version: 2.11

Great learning aidJust downloaded it and it's already paying dividends! Great to name the notes and get instant feedback on whether you got it right or not. Makes learning notes less of a drudge and I can see myself wanting to do a bit every day rather than thinking I have to. Well conceived, well presented, well done that justinman!.Version: 1.0

OutstandingThis app is very well designed and functions like a well oiled machine. The games and tests really give you a workout and actually help you learn the notes of the fretboard effectively. I couldn't be happier Justin :) If you're debating whether to buy this or not, let me give you some advice: Get It ;P.Version: 1.0

Note tuition in every spare moment.Put Twitter drama aside and learn something that makes you feel real good. Let your musical talent grow and your guitar playing flourish. A must have at a give away price..Version: 2.17

Best I’ve found!Great app, my favorite out there for note memorization. ...and Leafcutter is quite responsive!.Version: 2.00

Superb!Already helping and more quality from Mr Sandercoe. Assumes you already know the names of the strings in standard tuning (EADGBE) and that you are familiar with the numbering of the strings (1 to 6, thin to thick)..Version: 1.0

Great for all levels of playerThis is a great app for developing your internal fret board knowledge!! I've been using Justin's comprehensive site for years now. This app is another tick in the box for me!.Version: 1.1

Fun and friendly way to know your notesJustin is without doubt one of the best guitar tutors out with a holistic approach, that feels natural. This app is simply part of that approach adding a simple use anywhere tool to train your brain to see the notes and to be honest it's a bit of fun. Suits beginners and those who have played for a long time but never invested in knowing the notes on the fretboard..Version: 2.11

Any hope of a lefty setting?I really enjoy the app and I've gotten decent at reading the fretboard backwards, but a lefty setting like you have on ear training tool would be awesome. Please add if it's not too much trouble. Thanks!.Version: 1.1

Great idea, no southpaw switch...Wish I could find a way to see a lefty fret board..Version: 1.1

Great Apps Like all Justin’s GearNice and easy yet vert effective app.Version: 2.17

Genius!!An app that is simple to use, looks good and most importantly transfers knowledge over to the instrument! I can't rate highly enough!!!.Version: 1.1

Justin Guitar 5 StarYet another quality application that comes from the years of experience in teaching and playing that Justin has. With all the free (as in beer) content on his site paying for the apps and books is the very least I do. This is an outstanding way to know your way around the fretboard which makes such a difference in learning..Version: 1.1

It’s a great appThis is a very useful app as I teach guitar and note identifying is in guitar exams and it’s extremely useful to know your notes all over the guitar..Version: 2.00

AmazingI just started using this today and am already doing quite . In fairness though I have been trying to learn it for a whole but it definitely works. Justin, please add intervals, as guitarists we should learn and know the intervals within 3 frets each side of the root up and down the strings. That would be an amazing update... Please???.Version: 1.1

Very Good AppVery clean and well put together! I do think it would be nice to be able to remove the reference dots for frets 3,5,7,9. Well done!.Version: 2.17

AwesomeYeah I've been waiting a while for this app to come out. I think it will really help me practice notes. Justin's video's are great too. Buy it!.Version: 1.0

Nice appThe interface is pleasant. Not quite as useful if you don’t use standard tuning. Hopefully more tuning options will be added in the future..Version: 2.11

Quickly learningI'll have found the section find the note to be not only effective but fun to play..Version: 2.17

Fantastic appI love this app as you can keep brushing up on fretboard notes wherever you are Thanks Justin and thanks for your fantastic web site and lessons.Version: 1.0
