The Orchestra for Negative User Reviews

Wont even downloadThis needs fixing if you want people to use it. It wont download, tried over and over. Even left it overnight but gets about a quarter of the way and stops! Bad considering the current ad campaign lol.Version: 1.3.0

Latest update breaks Solo AudioThis update breaks Solo Audio in-app purchase. The app will prompt iTunes login, but does nothing afterward. Solo Audio doesn’t work anymore..Version: 1.3.1

DisappointingWhat a pity. Quite expensive and rather than getting the full symphonies or pieces you only get short excerpts! What are you thinking? Surely the whole point is that you get to see the score for entire pieces? I feel ripped off. You should make it clear in your literature that you are only supplying, what, 30 minutes of music total?.Version: 1.0.1

Won't downloadBought because the 9th symphony was so good but this app will not download like others I have tried and tried again it totally stalls at about 20%. No response to queries sent to developer. Suggest deferring buying any of their other products until they sort this out..Version: 1.3.0

Very disappointingIs this app meant for music lovers? If so, it will disappoint as only the first movement of each piece is played. It is great to see the players and to read the score. But nobody with any musical sensibility would want to hear just one movement..Version: 1.2.0

Terrible app, disappointingBought to introduce homeschool students to the orchestra. When I got to the home page, I was dumbfounded that there were only about 6 classical songs featured and a short bit about the instruments. There was not even a way to listen to an instrument and identify it. It was a complete waste of money. I thought that it would serve better than a book, and I was wrong..Version: 1.4.6

Pretty goodFor classical music fans/musicians this app is pretty nice. I think it would make a nice $5 app. My main issue is that it is just too darn big. I had to dump a bunch of files just to wedge it onto my 64gig iPad. My suggestion to the developers would be to dump the orchestra video. Aspiring conductors probably want to see his conducting technique, but the rest of us mainly want watch the score in sync with the audio..Version: 1.2.1

Pretty good but a bit overrated.Thought I would splurge on this app as it seemed interesting. I think the description overestimates it a bit however. It is essentially listening to the music while following along with sheet music. Like listening to an audiobook while also reading the book. There is also information on each instrument within the pieces including an interactive keyboard to depict the range and sound of the instrument. Still, far too pricey for what you get..Version: 1.2.2

Can't run this on my 2 year old iPadI was looking forward to this great app, paid and downloaded it only to discover that my, not very old, iPad can't run it, as it requires OS 6. Apple for some reason has made it impossible to install OS 6 and this app cannot work on OS 5 systems. Sad I'll have to spend another £400 to use this great app. Beware if you have an early iPad..Version: 1.0.1

MehIt’s an interesting idea, and has some great features. However, the choice of music is, well, odd. It includes Lutoslawski and Salonen, but there is no Mozart or Bach - I mean, who’d be interested in them, eh? I also thought the music might be updated every now and then, but it’s got the same pieces now as it had when released. Missed opportunity..Version: 2.0.1

Are you kidding?Sorting orchestral instruments as alphabetical order in score??? Are you kidding? Why do you spoil an already-great app? Can't believe this happend..Version: 2.0.0

It's misleadingUnlike Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, this app does not give you good information or explanation about the orchestra or its raw material symphonic music: it merely displays some very well known symphonic work's special sections and Maestro Salonen's conducting. I have the highest admiration for Maestro Salonen and the musical selections are fine. But for $14 I need to learn more, not merely watch Salonen conduct, which I have done literally hundreds of times, being an Angelino. Where is the conducting grammar? Why did the composer juxtapose a passage next to another, and what does the instruments, tempo, beat, waving of the arms all mean? I hope the publisher adjusts direction to make this type of apps, entertaining, and educational. Classical music is eminently more enjoyable if the audience knows what is going on. Otherwise leading the blind men through a rose garden gives the only one dimension of the rose. A little description is always a great help for the music lover..Version: 1.2.1

DisappointingThe advertisement on TV gave me the impression it would be the equivalent of an orchestral GarageBand style app, and for £6.99 that's what I expected, but no, it is more like an informational app. And also I would like to add, I had to delete a lot of music and pictures just to install it because the file is so large..Version: 1.3.1

Great appThis app is excellently produced and looks and sounds beautiful. I think I will return to it regularly and often. I do have criticisms. The app starts playing music the moment I open it. I don't want to be assailed by music - I want to choose the piece I want to hear, then listen to it. Please include an option to always mute the home page on startup. Also, my in-app purchase has taken over a day to download. For the first 20 hours, the download bar did not start to move, so I had questions such as to whether the app could download in the background. However the app has no support feature for contacting the developers. In an app costing more than £10, this seems like unneccessary and irritating cost-cutting. * Update - after getting about 3/4 through, the download failed. It is now back to the start. This has changed from a **** to a * due to my irritation at the developer's lack of support or guidance on this issue and the time that this download has wasted for me..Version: 1.0.1

Won't downloadHow dare you accept payment when there is clearly a problem with this? It won't download. Have tried 8 times now. Money back please.Version: 1.3.0

Will not loadAny advice.Version: 1.3.2

Disappointed with contentGiven the size of the app and the price one pays for it, I was shocked that only excerpts from each piece were included. I was hoping for more than just the second movement of Beethoven 5, more than just the exposition of Mahler 6. However, I like that users can see how the piece is conducted, and can listen in to individual sections at a time. It would be nice if the latter feature was built upon so that one could listen to individual parts, rather than sections; for example, listening to only the bassoons instead of the entire woodwind section..Version: 1.4.1

👌🎼🎻.Version: 1.3.1

Redesign Hurt FunctionalityI have used this app in my classroom for over a decade. The recent redesign has removed a frustrating amount of features. Here are the things they removed or forgot to include: -You can no longer zoom in on instruments. -When the instrument excerpts were playing, the notes being played used to show up on the Piano. No longer. -The instrument video excerpts used to enlarge a little when you played them. No longer There’s a lot of great functionality and education to be found in this app, but while we used to be able to zoom in and get a closer look at instruments and see what was going on, we can’t do that any longer. These are little details, but they make a big difference in the classroom. I hope they’ll bring these features back..Version: 2.0.1

Not working with iOS 12When I select a piece the app closes..Version: 1.4.5

Yes and No....While this app is a very enlightening thing indeed for people who know little about the orchestra, it could go further to explain the orchestra. It is very nice however to see interest in orchestral music in the world again. I'd love to nitpick but this app is actually pretty cool. I wouldn't recommend it for any music student, but as an introductory course in the orchestra it succeeds! However, Salonen including himself among great composers is my bone of contention. If the classical world wants to increase it's interest among the millennial generation by making an iPad app, they need to stop shoving atonal drivel down our throats, and dethrone these atonal charlatans who have driven classical music's popularity into the ground since Schönberg..Version: 1.0.1

Rip offThe app already costs 13.99. It contains 8 orchestral pieces, but in only one can you control hearing a particular instrument playing at a particular time. In the 7 other pieces you need to make an in-app purchase to activate this feature. A RIP OFF.Version: 1.0.1

Not worth itAt CAD13.00 I expect more..Version: 1.4.6

Only 4-6 minutes?Great app but can you tell me why don’t you didn’t put the entire pieces of the show.I want to listen more music about them..Version: 1.4.6
