MarineTraffic - Ship Tracking for Negative User Reviews

Not what it wasI have a passing interest occasional ship identification. This site used to be good for my purposes, but sadly the site is only interested in parting me from my hard earned cash by withdrawing more ability to the free user. I will be signing up to a paid AIS system when I get my boat, but that will not be for a year. In that year I will be checking other FREE AIS sites and will go wit whoever gives the best deal for a guy without deep pockets. There are plenty out there..Version: 4.0.24

Marine trafficWith marine traffic it’s kind of cool that you get to see all the boats but one thing might be the way you present it like maybe next time you could add more features to it like more pitchures of the boats because it only gives us 1 pitchure and I would really like to see more of the boat.Version: 4.0.35

Bit buggyDoes seem to crash a lot especially when looking at the wind charts..Version: 2.1.1

Don’t waste your timeI wanted to track a vehicle carrier from Japan to Australia. They purposely only update the position every 3-4 days once you look at a particular ship to try get you to pay for updated positions. I was easily able to find live information across the entire voyage from another website at no cost..Version: 4.0.35

Asks for payment for lots of different things, but don’t workFor example, I paid for destiny maps, but it’s still won’t show where a boat has come from, or going to, no path, just a boat in the middle of nowhere with no context.Version: 4.0.55

Poo this appI hate this app nothing works.Version: 4.0.24

Ads are obtrusiveYour ads are way too obtrusive! There are less annoying apps out there with the same functionality. Wouldn't recommend to a friend..Version: 4.0.61

Paid for App & Lost Original FeaturesPaid for the app a few years ago. Since going subscription, if you restore your iPhone (or buy a new one), you lose the starter pack which I had assumed paid users were grandfathered in to. And on top of that, you now also get ads being displayed. Marine traffic claim this is due to “technical limitations” but then admit you only get starter pack on the specific phone you bought the app on. Hundreds of other developers who went subscription were able to grandfather paid users in such as Fantastical, Readdle, Pocketcasts etc So I’m not aware of any “technical limitations” other than an attempt to move paid users to subscription only for features they had paid for previously. Such a shame to treat legacy users like this who championed and supported this app over the years..Version: 4.0.38

This is the worse App I have ever usedThere is no information on how to use this App. You just keep on paying to Satellite updates … that aren’t up to date. It was easier to stay in contact with my husband with WhatsApp, than to rely on this useless App to track his progress from STH Korea to Port Louis , Mauritius. 👎👎👎👎.Version: 4.0.61

Can’t fix imagesSomeone with the same boat name as me posted a picture of their boat onto my images. I can not remove it and you have neglected my requests to do so..Version: 4.0.38

Mediocre at bestSorry, but this app is providing me with contradictory and limited information. If I could supply screenshots it would make more sense. I’m tracking a vessel that is operating off the east coast of Greenland. Every time I want to locate it, I have to buy a 24 hr satellite positioning service. Secondly, when I touch on the vessel, it shows that it’s destination is firstly, Italy and now, a few days later, Saudi Arabia. Who loads this information?? The vessel position is actually off the east coast of Greenland, when I get to that page. Does anyone check this?.Version: 4.0.58

Warning! 16$ app fee is just the start!I was excited to pay for and download this app just to find that the 16$ I paid for it doesn’t do much. For example I bought a plane tracker app from a different company and the cost for life was 4.99$ which gave me an unlimited number of favorite planes and allows me to track planes wherever they are anywhere I’m the world. Not with marine tracker. Once a ship leaves a coastal area and moves into satellite range (which I think is about 20 miles off the coast) you have to pay 1$ per ship, per day). So say you want to track 3 ships for a month - 90$. You can pay for a monthly rate but only for each action the app does and those but add up pretty fast. For example to add more than 5 ships to you favorites would cost approximately 100$ a year at their best price of 8$ a month billed annually. What about larger packages. Those will cost you in the hundreds of dollars a year. The “pro” plan costs $1,200 a year. I would strongly suggest looking into what you want out of this app before dropping the initial 16$. Very disappointed in this app. It feels like the devs are just trying to milk every dollar out of me they can..Version: 3.9.19

DisappointedI've been using the free version for some years and have recently purchased the full version. Two weeks after purchase. a never before seen popup appears, asking for permission to use my personal data. I refused all of them and the so-called "Legitimate Interest" requests, only to find that hidden away under "Vendor Preferences" there are literally hundreds of companies who are going to place spying and tracking software on my device. unless each one is individually unticked. This is outrageous. If I say I refuse so-called Legitimate Interest that should mean ALL legitimate interest. Why would anyone reject spying software then agree to accept it from certain companies. This is a dirty trick to try and force people to give up and accept. NOBODY has any right whatsoever to put spying and tracking software on my device, particularly when I have specifically refused permission. I'll be deleting the app.Version: 4.0.35

This app has turned to crapAs a professional mariner all I can say is that this app used to be great but now it sucks. The functionality & accuracy of the info has deteriorated over the past year and the new pricing is ridiculous..Version: 4.0.38

ConfusingI use other location and tracking apps and they are very user friendly. This app however is confusing to navigate and use. I was after a simple identification and tracking app for boats and ships in my area, similar to the app ‘Flight Radar 24’ for aircraft where I simply click on an icon and get specific identification of the aircraft and planned route..Marine Traffic is nothing like that..all I get when I click on an icon is the type of vessel, unless I pay extra for the 24 period to ID one single vessel icon. I’ll continue to look for an alternative app that doesn’t nickle and dime me while leaving me confused when trying to navigate it….Version: 4.0.58

Inescapable adsGreat concept, I use a similar ones for flights frequently. Free version not very usable at least on a 13Pro. Frequent ads take over your screen, like the same frenetic video game which will not turn off even when you press “X” or “skip ads” repeatedly in a panic as it burns up data. You must shut down app and avoid, which is easy because you just had a terrible experience. Constant upgrade attempts for most info is locked. I realize a company needs to find the line where they can convert users, but if it’s unusable I don’t see me getting attached when I have the rest of the planet in my hands, limited time and a distaste for being annoyed. My experience suggests they have a monopoly..Version: 4.0.38

Greedy CompanyI already paid for the app itself. Then theres extra fees if I want to use certain features? Last I checked, that’s not how it’s supposed to work. So now here I am with a paid app, yet I can’t access vessel information without paying for satellite radar. Then you have to pay for weather readings. Then you have to pay for navigation charts. Then you have to pay for augmented reality. What’s next? Are you going to start charging when you to fart while the app is open? Only reason I got this app was because I was vacationing on the coast while ship watching and I was stoned. Otherwise I never would’ve paid the initial app fee!.Version: 3.9.54

Completely inaccuratePut simply - do not waste your money. This consistently gives a false reading. I am following a specific vessel and know (through comms) roughly where it is. This app has it located thousands of miles away. I subscribed to this service in good faith and would like my subscription refunded, but somehow suspect that will never happen! Update 17th Sep 2022. I paid the extra 89p for a specific 24hour detailed location of the ship I refer to above. I know within a hundred miles or so where this ship is. Even with the extra charge it still shows it in the wrong place. According to this useless App the ship has not moved in the last week! I would like a full refund!.Version: 4.0.32

Nice when it worksWe left Florida to go cruising in the Caribbean and had friends and family that wanted to see where we were. I, unfortunately, suggested this app and they all purchased it. Now it RARELY updates my position. For example we spent 3 days in a marina on Great Exuma and it never updated. It updated once when we were sailing off the north coast of the same island. Now after 4 days anchored 9 miles north we have not updated. Other cruisers in the anchorage are showing up. Keep in mind that we have brand new Vesper AIS and we show up on other cruisers Navionics and WatchMate consistently. Only answer I got is maybe we need to upgrade to “satellite version “. This is the response from tech support, “ The lack of Updated Positions of a vessel can be a result of a number of factors. Signal strength, functional transponder, local (vessel area) and surrounding (nearby stations) weather conditions, temperatures, traffic and the satellite constellation frequency are some of the most important ones. After checking on this further, I can see as well that your vessel is equipped with a Class B AIS Transponder. Please note that the above information is especially true for vessels equipped with a Class B AIS Transponder as their signal may be weaker..Version: 3.9.32

Unreliable at BestWe just sailed from Newcastle to Hobart and found that we were tracked well until Bass Strait and then poorly. It appeared to those watching we did 7 knots + across the strait BACKWARDS Not so funny for those at home when it appeared we were rendezvousing with a cruise ship in the middle of the Strait giving rise to concerns about medical emergencies etc. In Tasmania we have frequently been missing for several days at a time. Unreliable information is not always better than none..Version: 3.9.2

Not as advertised / does not function / further follow-up was worthlessThis app does not do anything more than the publicly available ship tracking websites. None of the information on the app is any better or more up-to-date than those other websites. The app itself does not provide many functions, unless you sign up for an account, which did not function. I was unable to insert my country or state to complete the registration to log-in. I certainly feel like I was duped into paying for an app that doesn’t work. I received an email asking for further feedback. It sent me to a link to a generic and positively worthless site. I will fully reiterate the complete and total rip-off that this app is and hold Apple responsible for allowing this app to exist. You clearly have my info. If you legitimately care about feedback, I would be happy to elaborate, but please don’t placate me with insincere and fake emails..Version: 3.9.54

Paid for this app twice now no access?I’ve paid for this app now can’t access paid features why? Because the developers can’t make new apps just try and keep charging you for the same access you had on the old app.Version: 4.0.32

Great app but expensive!!The app run great but it’s expensive for what you get!! I ran out of notifications which I have never seen on any app of the 100s I have purchased. Got a notification that I’ve used all my notifications until 3 weeks from now. So I’ve used all my notifications in one weeks time. Notifications they have sent me at random. I even Downloaded and subscribed with the full amount to keep updated on a friend who’s traveling on the water. It would be cheaper to purchase a gps location device where you could send text messages. The price and features is to expensive..Version: 4.0.20

Can't be cancelled through Apple. Can't be cancelled through the App or Apple. Must be done through difficult process on company site. Predatory! I purchased this product to track the tankers of a stock that I owned. I quickly found out the tracking the tankers was impossible unless I continuously purchased more notifications. The app is a complete scam and less you continuously purchase more and more. Not only that but it is almost impossible to cancel your subscription. I have been fighting with them for weeks to try to get a refund. And they still refuse to give me my money back for a renewal of a subscription that happened just a few days ago when I do not even have the app on my phone. This company is predatory and only trying to take advantage of users. Apple should ban them and any app that can't be cancelled from the phone when they bill using the phone. RIP OFF..Version: 4.0.32

DishonestI paid full annual price for ad removal - but ad removal only works on the iPhone app. Have to pay AGAIN for ad removal if you want to use your same account for web app on laptop. No other app does this. Really dishonest. Plus it gives incorrect locations for ships in Australia that I can see are in Melbourne port. I’ve wasted my money..Version: 4.0.38

Horribly BuggyUnable to complete registering using "Sign in with Apple." Asks for a country, but won't accept any variation of "United States" or USA or U.S. or etc. Apparently a list should populate when you start typing & you have to select from that list, but it never does so you're never able to select a country & thus can't register. Really basic usability issues that should never be allowed to reach production. Maybe there is amazing capability after one registers (don't use Sign In with Apple, perhaps?) but this sort of shoddy work in a high-dollar app - at least, one that seems to offer lots of ways to spend money - is pretty disappointing..Version: 4.0.80

Too slowUsed this app for years but map refresh is much too slow lately.Version: 4.0.58

Too limited for use without paying moreIt (probably) has great capability but unless you pay the premium you won’t get much. Limited fleet options, limited information. I bought the basic app but every time I occasionally want to know a bit more about a vessel it wants another $1.49 for just 24 hrs access..Version: 3.9.9

NotificationsIt’s pretty sad that I paid for the app but only get notifications for one day then have to pay for them. Scam.Version: 3.9.54

Junk !This app is pure junk. I purchased it and it does not work in and around Atlantic Canada. And there’s a ‘built in ‘ extra fee ... and that’s a scam ... be aware..Version: 3.9.20

Use an internet search. It’s more accurateBeen tracking my mates ship. The last update 12 days ago yet a google search shows he has arrived at port on the ships ETA..Version: 3.6.8

Don’t buy. Zero supportPurchased the app, then was prompted to add satellite data for 99p (Uk pence). This ONLY gives data for one vessel for one day!!! It’s does not say this during the purchase that this is only for one vessel. Not for all vessels. Even if there was a price for access for one year for all vessels this would be good. However there is no way to contact support via the app or website. Just web pages with self help topics. Don’t use this app it’s rubbish and support simply ignore you. Even emailing them does not get any reply. Avoid..Version: 4.0.58

Ads cannot be closedThe “X” on ads, which are often not even visible, do not respond. The app must be closed and restarted to regain functionality..Version: 4.0.72

Stay away from access plusShip positions are very old, for example 22 hours old. You can purchase access plus to get the updated position which they have but don’t apply it. So I purchased access 24 thinking it applied to ALL ships. Na, 1.49 for just one ship. Now that a rip off. So they have the updated position of ships but won’t pass that on unless you pay 1.49 a ship. Want to know where you can shove this program?.Version: 3.9.19

Not badI’m only going to give it 3 *** . I have been happy enough with the free version for years, it has done as much as I need. BUT of late, if you zoom out to go to a different part of the world, zoom back in …… no ships. You can see them all when zoomed out, as soon as you zoom in, they disappear. I generally have to shut down the program completely in order to get the screen back. It most certainly isn’t my connection speed, and this happens on both iPhone and iPad. It is getting very frustrating !.Version: 4.0.55

Tracking problemI’ve been using this app for years to keep track of my husband’s commercial fishing boat while he’s away working, it’s never been a perfect app when it comes to tracking but for about a year now the tracking has been completely wrong saying that he’s in New Caledonia when he’s in fact in Western Australia..Version: 4.0.24

Buggy and slowAds and paywalls everywhere. Useless..Version: 4.0.55

So SlowI’m deleting this app, you mainly see information that is a few days old, and ship positions take days to update so what’s the point of tracking a vessel with data that is many days old? Better off just searching for vessel information on Google..Version: 4.0.24

App is OK - at times.Reasonably useful app but it’s unreliable and flakey. Very difficult to update ships’ positions and the refresh button doesn’t work. The app sort of ‘half works’ which is a great pity because I suspect it could be great if it worked the way the devs probably intend it to work..Version: 4.0.32

Pretty goodToo many satellite positions with no info unless you pay a ridiculous amount for one day's use. Otherwise great..Version: 3.9.32

PaulApp has serious problems which make it useless, for instance, the position data for a vessel I'm following is now more than 24hrs out of date. The app sent me alerts that the vessel had berthed then left 12 hrs later but the they are charted in a day old position a long way from the port. This happens over and over- conclusion, the app is not worth using because it is misleading and erroneous..Version: 3.6.2

ExpensiveI am trying to track one boat in particular… but interested in others… I was (happily) pay the odd $2 bucks here n there to get sat Pos It’s stopped working tho What did I do wrong.Version: 4.0.61

Waste of moneyDownload ship tracker instead. This app is a waste of money- doesn’t give me yu access to more ship data that isn’t already available for free on other apps. The native design of the app is terrible and clunky. Has more in app purchases yu have to buy once you’ve already bought the app- which defeats the purpose entirely. Regret purchasing.Version: 3.9.54

Tedious picture loadingI just signed up for this app and tried to upload a photo of my boat. It is a tedious process and an unintended photo has now been assigned to my vessel. There’s no easy way to change this. I’m going to have to submit a help request to do a simple task. How do you even delete a picture do you know longer or not posted? Not easy to accomplish! And this is on top of a surprise when I originally signed up – a Cal20 sort of boat was associated with my vessel and it was not a picture I took! How it got there I have no clue. the health center has no clue either. Really, why is this so hard?!$&@!!?.Version: 4.0.24

Extras are expensive. When I first purchased this app it was to get info about an oil rig that was moored off our local coast. It was brilliant- I could track it being towed up and down the coast for a week while it avoided bad weather, and then to its mooring point in the bay. As my interest expanded, I checked out other ships and I found that I could get almost no information about them if they were marked as ‘satellite only’ - unless I paid an extra $1.49 per vessel for 24 hours access. Depending on how you want to use this app will determine how much extra money you will need to fork out..Version: 4.0.8

Dreadful! Searching vessels on a mapI have used this App for years. Although it used to be easy to find a local vessel on the map and see the basic details, the map now asks for 0.89p before even showing a photo. The result is I have now paid for 7 vessel searches and then told that they don’t have the data on one of the top 10 yachts in the world. The new software is like a roulette. Although I would prefer to pay an annual fee (not 0.89p for basic information such as name etc), ethically, you should at least provide the photo of the vessel and avoid these unnecessary purchases. Apple has however now returned the money I spent on the 7 unnecessary purchases.Version: 4.0.32

Terrible privacy controlsI'd happily give this app a zero rating because I truly detest companies and their apps like this that make it as difficult and time consuming as possible for you to opt out of third party parasites you've never heard of using your data to track and profile you to earn from you. We are not cash cows. The internet was never supposed to be this way. Don't be fooled, companies that use the exact same privacy controls as in this app include the option to object with one toggle and even they are doing it wrong despite not making you scroll down hundreds of individual venders like this app and company do, disabling each one manually. It's not in keeping with the spirit or aim of GDPR, by default there is supposed to be an OPT IN, not OPT OUT, and companies are forbidden by law to make it difficult for you to object..Version: 4.0.38

Not happy at all!Bought the app. Click on ship only to have a notice pop up that I need to purchase Access Plus 24 to see info! Bought this. Have Apple receipt. Click on ship. Same pop up - need to purchase Access Plus 24! Created an account, check my purchases. None shown. Contacted developer. Am STILL waiting a response. For the few ships that DO show info, the info is so old it’s irrelevant. In Contrast I use the PlaneFinder tracker for aircraft. What a joy to use. It gives real-time info on just about every plane you can see, and without the need for in app purchases to do so. Compared with this, MarineTraffic is rubbish!.Version: 3.9.2

UnreliableApp will not update from the day prior. Have tried restarting phone. Not the first time this has happened. Not reliable when you need it to be..Version: 4.0.61

There is a push to purchaseI gave a poor review since there has been a push to purchase premium access on a daily basis - often without any new updated information details..Version: 3.9.20

Not accurateNot accurate unless you pay only lasts 24 hours disappointing App that used to work without payment lasting only 24 hours.Version: 3.9.2

WARNING - They changed it after I bought itI paid something like $7 for the app. It worked well for a while. I considered it a good app. Now to get recent updates on a ship's position, it wants more money each time. Someone went overboard with greed. They changed the pricing model AFTER we already paid. Now to use the app I already paid for, they are extorting more money. Now the app is useless unless I give them more money each time I want to look up a ship. Any company that would this deserves to not get anyone's business. It’s a scam to charge to use an app I already paid for, and was working fine. I want my money back. And I’m very angry that Apple allows this..Version: 3.9.9

Useless without the $$$ subscriptions$30+ in monthly subscriptions to even make it work. I'm sitting in a port with a dozen large boats running AIS on all sides of me and none of them show up on the app..Version: 3.9.20

Now Completely UselessWhen I first started using MT several years ago, it was a great resource. What I saw out my window was exactly what I saw on the app. The information was accurate and timely, and the app was a lot of fun. For whatever reason, the timeliness and reliability of the information in the app has gotten continually worse, to the point now that none of the ships I see in port now are represented accurately in the app. With the latest update, I'm now getting generic titles like "yacht" or "cargo ship", and when I click on them, I'm redirected to some paid app ($150+ per year!) that I will never buy. This never used to be the case. The several times I've written to ask for help, I've been told that the problems were all on my end and that there's nothing wrong with the app. So, all that said, I am done with Marine Tracker, and will be deleting it from my device. It used to be a lot of fun, but it's all but completely useless now. A shame..Version: 3.6.8

MisleadingLog ins do not work, can NOT sign in with google or apple , half the functionality is locked behind expensive paywalls, the other half is locked behind login, login does not work, this app is useless, this is the LAST time i listen to users recommendations.Version: 4.0.61

AppHandy for just what it says marine traffic, it would however be appropriate to have more detail in the vessels without this being a paid for premium option..Version: 3.9.38

UselessSomeone recommended this app to me for our journey on the Great Loop as a way to identify tows so we could hail them by name over VHF to obtain passing instructions. I paid for the full app and it still does not show half the tows in the area and even when it does, it charges me a dollar to find out the name each time!!! I would have happily paid for an extra subscription for that, but trying to activate a payment each time leaves me vulnerable to being hit by a passing tow. Seriously, this app is worthless for this purpose so if you’re a Looper, don’t waste money on this garbage..Version: 4.0.20

One of the few apps I actually paid forBut I wish I hadn’t. More often than not, I have to go to Google and search Live AIS to identify vessels. Right now I am sitting in port on my own vessel, transmitting AIS. The cruise Ship Britannia is berthed fifty metres away from me. The app is telling me that both vessels can only be identified if I pay for the satellite service. Any number of free AIS sources online are able to identify both vessels. So if you are looking for an app that will actually identify other vessels and provide information, this probably isn’t the one..Version: 4.0.61

Updates irregularThis would be a great app if it updated the position of Class B vessels - updates can sometimes take days..Version: 3.6.8

Tracking issueI was following a yacht for the hell of it,and suddenly there are no updates..Version: 4.0.61

Suggest improvements to interface and in app purchasesOkay it sort of works. But the interface is a bit all over the place and needs a complete rethink imho. On the in app purchases everywhere, I guess that is the modern way. But some of them are applied too strictly. For example, if you buy 24 hours of position information through Access Plus 24, that historical position is no longer accessible after the 24 hours. So the access might have just expired, but rather than provide the last position during the time I paid for access, it provides a (free) position report from, say, 20 hours ago. This would be an easy fix and much fairer. And for that matter, I suggest something other than a bog standard “please reach out to customer support with more details” response. I provided a specific suggestion re Access Plus 24 in my review. Take it or leave it, but if you leave it your app will be the worse for it, imho. As for the user interface, i suggest some extensive ux work on the app.Version: 4.0.24

Access plus 24 is misleading. Charges for each shipPrior to Marine Traffic’s Access Plus 24 you could click on a ship and open the overview for free. This was a click look at the ship name, tonnage and few more data points. Yesterday, I clicked on the ship, opened the more >, but Access Plus was on next screen to purchase. Didn’t tell you I’m anything else. Had no idea what this was. I purchased and saw the details and more on the ship. Close this, go back to Marine Traffic, and click on another ship. I get the Access Plus 24 screen to our purchase. Odd, I had just done this but did it again. I was charged. So you get charged for every ship you want to look see. Where Marine Traffic provided a quick look at the ship where the name was most important factoid, now you can’t see anything! Now you get charged for every ship you want to know more about, such as name, tonnage, next port. Charging for every ship and not telling you is downright wrong. Go back to the way it was..Version: 3.9.2

Problem with trackingProblem with tracking function.Version: 4.0.24

More payment options pleaseThis is a really comprehensive app. I’d like to investigate it’s services more but it’s just too expensive. I appreciate that you can try before you buy . But the monthly fee is prohibitive unless you are actively using it for a business or serious daily fact based hobby or enquiry. I’d be happy to pay for an option per financial increment over a much broader range of services. The site does so much but I don’t want all of it by any stretch. I want to pay for the things that appertain to me but not be forced to pay for the things I’m not interested in simply because they are included in a monthly package. Please charge me for what want but not for what I don’t want and don’t need. The categories and current payment options are prohibitive and, in my opinion, need a more flexible and enlightened approach. Other than that, it’s an excellent service and, if you can afford it, worth the investment. But the cost, for those of lesser means, probably excludes many who might benefit and help to bring the app to a wider audience, greater awareness and ultimately, a higher profit margin..Version: 4.0.8

No Longer Useful.Marine traffic was once a useful, and for some, indispensable tool. With the recent “update” you now have to pay daily to see the name/position of one vessel. Seeing unnamed vessels on the screen is not worth the original price paid for the app and certainly not worth the daily extortion money MarineTraffic is demanding now. The point of AIS is to have a better idea of who you are dealing with out there before you meet them. Extremely disappointed with this new development and I would no longer recommend this once great app to anyone. I would request a refund if I thought they would actually grant one..Version: 3.9.32

Giving upThis app started off good, however it now doesn’t update with positions, still showing a ship in the position it was 6 days before, even though it has been in port for 2 days and is now heading for a different country. Even if you pay for “live tracking” it doesn’t update. At first I thought it was a blip, but has occurred again. The ship my son is on is now in a different country, but still has him “in port” where he was more than a week ago. The only way to check is to look at the ships in port information. I have now found a different free app that updates half hourly and have deleted this app..Version: 4.0.80

Free full website better.Unless you need a mobile version, nothing gained by purchasing the app. I find myself using the website on my phone instead of the app. And don’t expect to gain anything with the app, other than a nice interface..Version: 3.9.28

Layers Don’t RemainHow do I keep the layered options I’ve set for vessels? Every time I enter my preference and click the tick to confirm, they remain, but only whilst I’m viewing in that session. Would be great for them to remain whilst I have the app installed. Is this at all possible?.Version: 3.9.32

Not fit for purposeI dont usually pay for iPad apps, but paid £4.99 for this one. Please don't waste your money, unless, like other reviewers, you are only going to be interested in local boats near to your location. I had the same problem as one other reviewer, it hasn't been able to track a large P&O passenger ship, which is the only purpose for purchasing, so I could track a friend's cruise, just for fun. The only time it appears on the map is when it is at a standstill docked in port. There are so many ads displayed in the screen and yes, there is another charge for getting rid of these. There is also a huge monthly charge to gain satellite tracking, which may or may not find your ship. There are better FREE ship tracking apps in the Apple Store, which work better than this useless app..Version: 3.6.8

4 yrs ago told everyone to spend the 5$ on this app. No longer3 to 5 yrs ago, for 4.99 you could get this as a paid app. For what we and our land lubber friends used it for, the occasional ships, going on a cruise etc, this was fabulous. Even my 85 yr old mother in law bought it. We probably got at least 25 people to download this app. More than any other! Unfortunately it’s changed… Now it’s full of ads and pushing you to another paid model. I get that you can do routes etc, but sad it’s going this way. We’ve heard from probably half our friends they deleted it now and do we have another app to promote lol. Ughhh. :(.Version: 4.0.32

Ripped!Sir,why the hell did I waste my hard earned money on this app? It cost quite a bit and doesn’t track the vessels at all…..Purchased it to follow my daughters once in a lifetime cruise and all it tracks is while it’s in port in Cairns and not the cruise at all !!!…..A very poor app!!!.Version: 4.0.58

Marine trafficI have been close to water all my adult life ( RCN) and now I’ve lived on the St Lawrence River banks for 17 years. I’m now retired with pensions from Navy . I have been following ships for 17 years with Marine Traffic and it’s THE best app that I have ever seen. Allways precise and knowledgeable. I’m hooked with Marine Traffic till I have to move to a residence for older folks , I’m 70 so a few years to go , lol Thanks to the team behind it..Version: 4.0.72

OkNot bad but positions are out.Version: 3.6.2

Don’t pay for add ons….The free version is a fun tool to use, however, they are continuously trying to sell for additional functionality e.g. more alerts, satellite reporting. I am tracking a friend on a trans Atlantic and paid to upgrade to the satellite reporting. It is a daily fee but updates aren’t at all regular (over 16 hours so far today). I know it is not an easy thing to do but don’t sell it if you haven’t properly invested in the technology required. Don’t get me started about trying to contact someone……...Version: 4.0.20

No useful informationI purchased the app at a cost of £4.99 to be able to track cruise ships, as I work in the travel industry and frequently need to help with customer queries. The only information you get when you select on the map is ‘passenger ship’ and it doesn’t state the name. I noticed an additional option of paying an extra 99p to get further info, so selected a random ship, to then find that that 99p only pays for the info on THAT SHIP for a 24hr period, not all ships! This is useless to me and there is no option to cancel the app and get my £5.99 back!!!! Very disappointed!.Version: 3.9.32

Unreliable AppSince last update to app platform is unstable. I have deleted app and downloaded again from App Store but the ships come on the map then disappear and I have to wait till it stabilises. I have top quality connections and equipment. This has just happened since last update with the daft blue ship in the intro screen now. Looking at other apps now to track fleet. Please get the bugs out as it would be a shame to leave you after the years..Version: 4.0.35

Great appAwesome thanks guys.Version: 4.0.72

Solo sailerWould be great if there were better update s..Version: 3.9.2

Started great but issuesAt first after paying the UK £4.99 premium everything was fine. Liked the format and layout and it worked very well. Adding fleet was ok but you could not add enough I found. Then I started having problems with notifications pings after having found they were very good. Contacted MarineTraffic but really to no avail and they informed me which vessels should of given notifications but didn’t. No offer of a technical team looking into either. Pretty disappointed right now..Version: 3.9.38

TrafficIt doesn’t update often and why is it that you get the names of a few boats? Bought a subscription figured that would give me the infp!.Version: 4.0.55

Confusing, Annoying, and not user friendlyThe cool thing about this app is you get real-time information about boats, ships, yachts, etc. Here is what is frustrating, I have to pay in order to view a specific ship and it only lasts 24 hours. There is no “renew” button and so one is forced to guess which ship you want to view and pay if you want to continue. There should be a “Renew” purchase option or something. I also have to keep logging in over and over and over again. I’ve logged in 3 or 4 times just in the one session, even when I didn’t close the app..Version: 3.9.54

Pretty good app, worth the money. It's not bad. Limited by how often ships are either broadcasting their location or within range of where they can be picked up it seems. Also a bit buggy. Sometimes ships in My Fleet list are not recognised even when I'm signed in. Shutting the app down and restarting or logging out and logging back in fixes that. It would be good if ship details popped open when the ship icon is tapped rather than having to tap again to get those details IMHO. Actually the more I use it the more I wish I hadn't bothered. Pity it doesn't work like FlightRadar24. Ship positions can be days out of date hich is worthless..Version: 3.6.2

Free version is unusableI make my living docking ships. Almost everything that once made this free app good is now behind a paywall. At one point I had a version I paid a premium one time fee for, but since changing to a subscription model its just hot garbage. There are much better free apps and much better paid apps. Disappointed. Update: Contacted customer service. They explained what I already knew. When switching from a one time fee model to a subscription model, they took away the additional features I paid for when I changed devices. Seems wrong. Like buying a car with cash then yesrs later the dealership says they’re switching to you to a lease and lowering the top speed of the engine if you don’t pay. Doesn’t make sense..Version: 4.0.38

Infested with adsAds are important to run business, don’t spam your app users. I think this app has to be number 1 in spamming users with ads. Zero star..Version: 4.0.38

My FleetsI’m a paid up subscriber to Ship Finder and am sailing around the world on my private yacht. I’d like to add other boats we have met along the way to MY FlEET but the app doesn’t allow more than 5 boats in total and even if I add an additional fleet, the total fleet friends available remains at 5. I’m not sure why, but 5 boats only in MY FLEET is insufficient for my needs and defeats my need to continue subscribing to this app. Am I doing something wrong or is this a design fault of the app?. The app is otherwise fine..Version: 4.0.58

Marine trafficPayer 8.04$ et ca vaut rien tout est payant ne pas acheter ne pas gaspiller votre argent.Version: 3.9.9

Nice interface but hard to find the right boat sometimesI use it to find my clients yachts and sometimes it can be tricky to find them if they have a common name. You end up clicking on multiple vessels and then those are forced in your history which is a bit annoying. For me It would be better if you could set a default for a type of vessel so that you could find it much more quickly, and also have more info displayed on the search page to avoid clicking on the web NG vessels by trial and error..Version: 3.6.8

What happened to the app that I love?Advertisement banners, nothing that used to work is working. Require additional subscription. This app has seriously been downgraded. I am so sick of paying for apps . Just have the features removed. That I paid for. I need another subscription bill like I need a hole in my head. The developer response is a lie. Contact them directly. Is a complete waste of time. All they do is talk about somehow It must’ve been removed from my account. Then immediately try sell me on their subscription service. There has been no effort to restore my access for what I paid for. The nerve of these company stealing from you then expecting you to continue doing business with them. Crooks! Apple needs to be held accountable as well. It is an increasing alarming rate of companies getting away with this on this platform. An apple is doing absolutely nothing about it..Version: 4.0.35
