The user interface is perfectly designed allowing you to immerse yourself into each photo , which then has the news report embedded within....it's so well created , you can see how much effort and time has gone into making the app. I love photography, but it's not just a load of pics...it's news from all over the world made engaging and so beautifully presented. ✓ Superb!!!Firstly, I never write reviews, for anything. Ever. But I'm so impressed by this app that I thought it deserved it. I actually stumbled across this accidentally whilst looking for a Reuters News app and I'm glad I did. When you first launch the app you're faced with a scrolling screen of pictures which you can tap on, this 'melts' into the actual story, with further pictures which you can again tap on to enlarge. Within each story there's links to a short biography of the photojournalist (with more of their work) and also places mentioned. Clicking on the 'places' brings up a pie chart showing further info, ie: population, GDP, life expectancy ect. As mentioned by other reviewers, all pics were taken using Canon cameras. I'm also a Nikon user, but don't care what instrument was used, especially when they're this good. Both the pictures and accompanying story are of a very high standard and, again mentioned by another reviewer, bring a definite sense of culture to your ipad. I would quite happily pay for this app, it's very, very good. The look is very minimalist but suits very well. This is photojournalism of the highest calibre. Do yourself a favour a get it. ✓ Wider Image - ReutersI downloaded this app some time ago and hadn't really used it until recently, but when I opened it and came across the Ethiopian salt trade feature (which is excellent) I was hooked. It's a fabulous combination of text and pictures. And they keep adding features such as being able to follow individual countries. ✓ My favorite photo app!This is a wonderful app. It is photography at its best and allows you to research the photographer, the social issues in the picture, the geographics and statistics of an area or region featured in the photograph, and just amazingly well done! This reminds me of national geographic on steroids. What I really like is the many ways you can view the photographs – sliding, slideshows, one at a time with extensive captions printed below the photos and the photographers' names. This promises to be something like a Flickr with a social and global geo-political consciousness. The concept is good, the arrangement of photos is well designed, the navigation is okay. Constructive Feedback: well done, however, you may want to explore easier/more apparent ways to enable users to navigate through the news, once they are inside a story. The timeline should have persistent months, as you can't really tell which month you are in, if you are browsing in the middle of the months. ✓ Way coolI like reading the news. Always have. Not that I'm bored with the regular daily news, I'm not. The Wider Image is exactly what it says. It covers stuff that other news agencies just don't have the time for. If The Wider Image does cover a current case, it's not about the upfront info, but behind the scene. The photos are a true joy to look at. I have several "favorite" stories. One of my favorites is about women who are in jail and have been allowed to keep their children with them until the child is 4. The original writer of the first story went back after 5 years to do a followup story. Fascinating and well done. It made me cry. Another is a man who is a transgender dancer in China. It was a story that surprised the writer and to me it was a story that showed me another side of China. Get the app. Read the stories. Look at the pictures.
