Blackmagic Camera for Positive User Reviews

Incredible… 1st Resolve, now this - kudos! 🦋Thank you so much for releasing this, it was a total surprise and the feature set (even at launch) is just incredible; and naturally it will continue to grow and evolve! As an existing DaVinci Resolve (desktop) user, now having access to its features on iOS, then being spoiled with this incredible full featured camera app (with BM cloud support and integration) is a dream come true! The interface is really clean and intuitive, it leverages the power of all the exciting camera hardware technology Apple has/is in the pipeline and has a familiar GUI look and feel. Can’t wait to explore this further (deep dive) and learn it’s weirding ways - but very cool!.Version: 1.0.1

Great camera app - with one important omissionThis is a fantastic (and free!) alternative to Filmic Pro after I could no longer justify using that app. It has basically all the same controls, in perhaps an even more intuitive interface. However, there is one important feature that Blackmagic is missing. The ability to control and monitor the camera from a separate iOS device like an iPad. This functionality is imperative when self-filming. There is also no support for the app available on the website. So the only way I can request this feature is here in a review. I hope Blackmagic is listening and implements this asap!.Version: 1.2

Get serious…If your serious about video and TIRED of Adob charging month fees for very little or maintenance updates, welcome to BlackMagic! DaVinci is a serious contender for you to consider, along with FinalCut Pro! I have NOT fully used this app but have used DaVinci and even the free version can help you to get to pro level editing for free! The fact that this app is free, shows that BlackMagic is serious about you and your needs, as they want you to become a Pro and later, AFTER you making money to invest in their Pro level services/products! Give this camera app a try and see how amazing the folks at BlackMagic are!! Not a paid review but a FREE DiVinci user!!.Version: 1.0.1

Apple logHave had a few tests. Some times apple log turns off and I can’t get it back? Then all of a sudden it works again?.Version: 1.0.1

Good camerI think is a good camera overall.Version: 1.1

Amazing Stand-alone App!This app is incredible. The control it gives you completely transforms your iPhone camera into something usable for video. Would love to see two things come to this app. One- would love to be able to plug my iPhone into my blackmagic cinema camera via usb c and use this app to control and monitor my blackmagic camera. Two- would love be able to plug the focus demand into my iPhone and use that to manually control focus of my iPhone. Incredible app and can’t wait to see what they do with it..Version: 1.0.1

A powerful videography appThe app is essentially a basic version of the software found on Black Magic cameras. It’s well integrated and works well with iPhone camera features, allowing you to have more control over normally restrictive camera features. It adds the ability to manually control focus, have different exposure viewing modes like zebra, and even import LUTs for basic color grading. A must have for anyone who wants to try out doing video on an iPhone..Version: 1.0.1

BM camera not in IS mode.I don’t seem to be able to get IS no matter what version I choose. Everything is shaky. This puts me off using the camera meantime..Version: 1.0.1

AwesomeFantastic - and free!!! No subscription!!! Fully featured, intuitive, and great, love Blackmagic products - and business model. Just paid for the well worth it Studio version of DaVinci Resolve, the best software out there..Version: 1.2

This is the TOP mobile phone CINEMA CAMERA APPThis company is for the creatives by the creatives! Only have 2 words - no words! ❤️.Version: 1.2

Great ButThere's a bug on iPhone 13 Pro. The viewfinder is off axes .. it's really annoying. Can't frame. I can report same issues on other iphone 13Pro models.Version: 1.1

Amazing app on 15 Pro!Now that they fixed the HDMI issues relatively quickly and gave us fractional frame rates, I can actually use my iPhone 15 Pro as a camera I. professional workflows! The only thing I would really like to see at this point is a way to move ISO better. Right now the sliders are really hard to dial in exactly and often move when removing my finger from the screen. It would be nice to have them as stops that lock into place at like 100, 200, 400, etc..Version: 1.1

Amazing appAmazing interface and shooting options. Would even better if you could shoot in a log profile..Version: 1.0.1

End of filmic pro eraI have been using iPhone from probably 12 years and this is my first ever review, now you can imagine what kind of impact this app has on me. I am a full time DOP, filmic pro was my go to app, but blackmagic completely changed the game with this app. I guess right now there is no match for this app in-terms of usability and support for professional features. Knowing blackmagic I am even more excited about the future of this app and see where blackmagic would take this app from here with their innovative updates. May be a log gama, or ability to export gyro data with clip so we can stabilised the clips in DR. Thanks a lot BMD!!.Version: 1.0.1

Blackmagic continues to deliverBlackmagic’s smart business practice to provide to all customers high level products without searching for opportunities to greedily rip you off is what has made me gravitate to this company and its products, recommending it left and right. This app is proof of that. It is professional and very well done, and provides all that is needed to grow professionally without the gotchas all other companies do, providing pieces and to grab you in a subscription or something, which at the end causes me to distrust them. This is why I use Davinci Resolve, their AV switchers and now looking to invest more. Blackmagic… Thank you!!.Version: 1.0.1

Watch out this is better than Filmic Pro- The controls on filmic pro are tiny and annoying to adjust. This one does it correctly, it is easy to adjust settings. - It allows you to record to external media unlike filmic pro. And it allows this with any format not just ProRes like the default camera app. - It lets you record wide screen video without having to turn your phone sideways. - BTW they’ve unknowingly allowed you to record ProRes on iPad mini 6. You’re not supposed to be able to do this on non-pro models, Apple uses ProRes to segment their products but this app lets you do it anyways..Version: 1.0.1

The Best Free appThank you very much Blackmagic. Grateful for your generous and awesome app..Version: 1.1

Magic!Weather it’s Blackmagic or just Magic this apps capabilities are on a professional level. Manual controls and allowing to adjust your settings on this level is setting the bar for other apps to follow. I was a Filmic Pro Legacy user but decided this is a better app to work with..Version: 1.1

Nice cam. But has one annoying bug.Great app but the fps always defaults back to 30fps when you close and open the app. Even just going back and forth to other apps. Would be nice to lock the fps to whatever you want. I didnt realize this and half my footage was 30fps and half were shot at 60, which is what I wanted. Also would love the option to save video only to the iPhone camera roll and not be forced to also save a copy inside the app. Otherwise nice options. I’m sure it will only get better..Version: 1.0.1

Independent exposure and focusAn awesome app to harness the iPhone 15 capabilities. Some great additions around focus would be to separate the exposure and focus reticles, add focus racking and improve the manual on-screen focus UI..Version: 1.2

Just like using my BM cameraVery impressed at the initial release of Blackmagic camera app. I have a ‘proper’ BM camera and the controls on the phone are pretty much the same but without the weight it’s a weird experience at first. I’m using it on an old iPhone XS and I’d say for some reason the images are a bit more contrasty than the built in camera. The cropped version when held vertically as opposed to filming vertical is so useful offering an instant cut in. Only slight issue with this version is that can sometimes take quite a while for the camera to find an initial auto staring point for exposure. I’ve just missed a shot because everything was blown out and it was taking me too long to manually get an acceptable picture. Sort this, pair with a latest iPhone and BM camera is pretty much as good as it gets. On a phone..Version: 1.0.1

Great new better and good bye filmicBlackmagic Design has always come through with the greatest bang for buck compared to its counterparts, and the world of capitalism, they focus on quality and deliver to all their customers. A great product no matter what. Without going crazy with their price margins.Version: 1.1

Blackmagic > FilmicNo subscriptions, no paid app that suddenly gets discontinued in favor of the new pricing model, no “you can’t use the app because you’re trying to shoot in a location off the grid, and we can’t check your subscription.”, better UI. Blackmagic > Filmic.Version: 1.0

Does not fit the screenDoes not fit the screen.Version: 1.1

Almost PerfectThis app is everything I want the native camera app to be. It’s my go to. I only wish I could set an ISO limit or ISO range so that when I tap the screen to focus, the ISO doesn’t shoot all the way to a billion. And I wish I could use the action mode from the native camera app within the Black magic app. Fantastic app otherwise. It allows me to shelve my DSLR camera almost completely..Version: 1.2.1

Nicely integrated, but potentially flawedInitially playback of clips recorded under a display LUT worked, but now it crashes the app. I have done the full reset, rebooted, moved the LUT into the correct folder manually instead of importing, changed the codec and resolution. The clips play from the photo library, albeit without the display LUT, and not using a display LUT when recording doesn’t crash the app when those clips are opened in the Media page. Looks like it’s something in the loading of the display LUT for playback of clips recorded under it causing the crash. So technically, since it looks like the LUT isn’t being burned into the file anyway, I can still output clips recorded under a display LUT as normal and just remember to not touch the Media page and reapply the LUT in Resolve. Otherwise, the app is great and I’m excited to follow further development!.Version: 1.0.1

SuperbI have other iphone apps for the camera that I spent money on and this one bests them both in terms of ease of use and overall design. It has taken over as my choice for control of my iphone camera. I own several BM PCC's and have been a devoted follower since they introduced the first one. This app follows in their tradition of excellence..Version: 1.0.1

Level indicator and FlashightSo far so good! Great features! I do have a few suggestions. I’d like to be able to have the horizon level indicator and the ability to turn on the flashlight at night like the native app. Also, some indicator that the Timelapse feature is on. I was surprised to see I had accidentally turned it on and lost a great deal of footage..Version: 1.1

AmazingBlackMagic has smashed out the park with this app. Absolutely amazing feature for free. Say Goodbye to filmic pro and their stupid monthly fees. Don’t take my word for it. Try it for yourself.Version: 1.0.1

Almost perfect - just missing one key featurePlease allow focus peaking, zebras and false color to be used during a recording like other pro video apps on iOS. Currently it is auto disabled which makes this app fall behind Filmic Pro and Cinema P3 which allow these keys tools to be used while recording. Otherwise perfect!.Version: 1.1

Lut problem? Is there any way i can save the video with the Lut or the Lut its only for the preview? Cause everytime i save the videos in my gallery they dont have the filter applied..Version: 1.0.1

Love it!It’s my favorite app to record pro phone video by far. Two requests, one very small. It would be great to be able to toggle the LUT easily in the playback view. Second, if we could have a similar HFR feature to the cameras to see our slow-mo in playback, I don’t see any reason to use any other capture app!.Version: 1.1

Seems excellent so far.Would be good to try it on a more recent iPhone! Seems excellent so far, considering it’s free. When I turn zebras on, it crops the image. Is that a bug? Do we know what gamma is being displayed, and what the correct zebra levels are for that for black/grey/white/clip? Any chance of adding an option to set custom clip names (names, not slate/shot numbers)? What are the specs of the codecs being recorded?.Version: 1.0.1

Good App But Needs workThis is a awesome and great camera app however there is a lot features that are missing from it 1. Torch light on camera for recording 2. Paused and Resume for easy editing 3. Anti shaking (to prevent shaking during the recording session 3. video stabilization. 4. extended cinematic. Mode 5. Saved each feature setting to prevent app from resetting them all. 6. macro mode. For video and photos 7. 4K pro res recording in 60 FPS and saved videos to iPhone photos library 512Gb/1Tb required only 8. Set recording duration for 1min 2 min 5 min 10 min , 1 hr 2hr 4hr 8 hr 10 hr and unlimited recording 9. Control audio gain adjustment for studio recording 10. Stop recording when battery indicator shows low battery at 5% battery life. 11. Surround sound recording 12. vocal sound effect. For recording Please consider adding all these features in the upcoming updates thanks 😊 waiting to hear back from you immediately.Version: 1.0.1

Best of the bestThis is the best camera app on the store. Its incredible that they made it free! BlackMagic truly does magic to their products. It would be so nice if they could add Log shooting profiles to the app. Thank you so much!!.Version: 1.0.1

The absolute best iPhone camera app!No only is this by far the best camera app I’ve ever used on an iPhone. It’s free and doesn’t have any pop-ups (that I’ve experienced so far) this app is truly amazing, it makes me want to switch to resolve..Version: 1.0.1

Astoundingly goodAn astonishingly good video camera app. All issues observed with the previous version appear resolved. Now fully supports iPhone 15 Pro Max lenses and all three microphones..Version: 1.2

Amazing Out of the Gate w 2 notesThis is phenomenal. Download it. But there’s a couple issues with advanced operations. For the Naming Convention, the user needs to be able to set the camera number or letter, and that should be included in the file name when choosing BlackMagic Convention. Shooting from two phones with two accounts and uploading to Resolve results in both sets of footage having nearly identical file names, and they’re both labeled as A cam. Also, the storage indicator is very confusing and seems inaccurate. But overall, this is the app our production has been waiting for..Version: 1.0.1

Amazing! It’s only 1.0-1.1 but it’s already packed with great features. The app has its quirks but I’ve already worked around them. It’s a solid choice..Version: 1.1

PerfectIncredibly better in my opinion than filmic pro and it’s free, which is even better!! What I may ask, with regards to the aspect ratio guides, is there a setting perhaps where you can actually have those these when recording and be set to that ration when viewing the clip?.Version: 1.0.1

The Best Video Camera AppThis app is very intuitive with easy access to all main settings. It’s as complicated as you want to make it really. I would love for the camera to default it’s frame rate to either last used, user preset or native to location ie 30/60fps or 25/50fps. I only use 50 so have to change this every time and it’s easy to miss - 4 stars for this. I’m a professional cameraman and this app is going to be part of my mobile kit for sure..Version: 1.0.1

So far so goodThe ability to adjust ISO and white balance is what convinced me I needed to try this app. I make mostly small videos with me in the shot talking as well as do a video podcast with a few friends. My white balance would shift between warm and cool at times with the native iPhone app. In iOS 17 they now have the ability to lock white balance. But I was noticing the images were sometimes a little grainy when I would shoot in my “home studio”. The ISO was always too high trying to shoot the low light stuff. Between my background lights, key lights and full light the native iPhone camera wasn’t producing the best results. Now lowering ISO and adjusting my lighting afterwards made a huge improvement. The other thing that almost had me deleting this app was the audio seemed extremely low when I was using my USB microphone. I was turning up the gain on my microphone way higher than I had needed to do before. Just figured out tonight that if you tap on the audio meter, gain control pops up inside the app to make adjustments. It starts off at the lowest level and you can raise it from there. Pretty sure when using the native iPhone app it just comes through at full gain preset..Version: 1.0.1

Deduct one star for buggy h265 apple log recordingBest camera app ever! But on the iPhone 15 pro max apple log recording is not working consistently with H265 or h264 format. Hope the issue gets resolved soon!!.Version: 1.0.1

Blackmagic is the GOATSO relieved I have a better camera app option outside of Filmic Pro, after they sold out and got turned into a soulless cash grab subscription service 🙃 Blackmagic is our savior! Not only much better.. but FREE?! Such a relief Blackmagic is a company that is making consumer-first decisions. DaVinci Resolve is not only an amazing piece of software, but it’s reasonably priced and not a subscription service! I’ll happily continue to throw money at them as long as they continue this trend. Thanks Blackmagic!.Version: 1.0.1

Please add log profilePlease add LOG profile for iPhone 14pro.Version: 1.1

Issues with H.265 files shot in Apple LogGreat app in general. Being able to shoot in Apple Log with smaller file sizes is great. The app is easy to use once you learn the layout. Only issue I’ve come across is shooting in 4k Apple Log H.265. The files aren’t recognized by my PC and resolve only sees it as an audio file. The proxy version in 1080p H.265 works fine. Just can’t open the 4k files. I’ve tried reinstalling my HEVC codecs to no avail. Other H.265 4k videos I’ve downloaded online work fine on my PC so I believe it has something to do with the videos coming out of the app. Hope it gets resolved soon..Version: 1.1

Interface is Cutoff on iPhone 12This app is pretty much flawless. As someone who have bought other cameras apps like beast cam and Moment, I’m kinda mad I did because of how good this app is and it’s free. But there is one huge problem, the Ui is cutoff on iPhone 12. It’s shifted a bit to the right and I don’t see everything how it’s suppose to be seen. If that wasn’t a problem, this app is basically a 5 stars..Version: 1.1

Timelapse?Very impressive for a free app that collects no personal data. 5 stars. Only thing that I can’t get to work is Timelapse mode..Version: 1.0.1

10/10Best camera tool on the App Store for sure.Version: 1.0.1

Just about as close to perfect as you can getI absolutely love this all and it’s unbelievable the control and image quality you get from this. My only main note would be to allow for Apple Watch monitoring so you can see your shot. Apple Watch functionality would take this to the next level..Version: 1.2.1

Perfect for iPhone 15 ProI attached an SD card reader, and one of my faster, SD cards to the phone and used this app to record 4k ProRes 422 with Apple log, and a display LUT I loaded in, without a single problem. It was glorious. The image is extremely good looking and on wide shots or ECU could easily cut in with cinema cameras. I’m blown away. While Apple does allow pro as recording in their native app, it is only progress 422HQ, which takes up tons of space. Blackmagic lets you set that lower to be more reasonable. You can even record 4k/60 ProRes 422 to an SD card. And the app is free. Wow..Version: 1.0.1

Love it!So much better and more user-friendly than all the other iPhone apps I’ve tried. The one thing I would ask to add is a way to start and stop the camera remotely. I am shooting from my car today and would like to be able to start and stop either from my, Apple Watch or iPad. Right now I’m recording lots of extra footage so I don’t have to safely stop the car to start and stop the phone. I guess that’s pretty nitpicky. :-) This camera app is awesome..Version: 1.0.1

Smashed it!First day so not an extensive look, but so far this is hands down the best of the ‘pro’ level video apps - absolute no brainer if you edit with Resolve. Great work Grant and team 👌.Version: 1.0.1

Oh my oh myIt’s just a blessing for those who know how to. My only gripe is having to dive into settings to change write to location to external drive. Either auto change to usb c when detected or a dedicated button to quickly change it please.Version: 1.2

Best Video App Ever!Thank you so much for the app and making it free to use unlike the other apps. Skip the other apps, just use this one..Version: 1.1

Landscape video in portrait mode! There are so many great user interface improvements compared to other camera apps, but for me the stunner is being able to hold the phone securely in portrait mode while shooting landscape video. No more fingers in the frame, shaky shots, or dropped phones!.Version: 1.0.1

Amazing they brought this to the iPhone and it’s free!I’ve been a big fan of blackmagic for a while. I watched the announcement today and was blown away at this particular announcement. I’ve been wanting something new to recommend folks over Filmic pro since they changed to a subscription based service. The interface is way easier to navigate than any other app I’ve used and feels right at home as someone who uses a bmpcc4k daily. Few things I’d love to see come to this (though it’ll have some massive hurdles to jump) -log recording -record to blackmagic raw format -connection to atem product line for use of iPhones for live streaming Those are HUGE asks to a product that is already amazing. If y’all could add those features this would be not only one of the best apps for filming on iPhone, it would be one of the best tools for filmmaking..Version: 1.0.1

Photo mode?Love the app but was wondering if there would ever be a photo mode? Would love to be able to put my list over the top of photos while shooting..Version: 1.2

Storage access issueI’ve got 65GB free storage free on my iPhone 13 Pro. Within the app it says that I only have 9GB free and will only let me record for 25 mins based off my record settings. Anyone else have this issue? Or is it just me? An update to address this would be swell Otherwise quite a good app. Locking buttons on the ISO and focus rack would be neat too. Maybe a little manual/glossary of the icons in the settings?? Is that asking too much from the best free video app ever?😅.Version: 1.2

Great up missing minor but Free!!!Love this app, please add a landscape lock option and is there a way to keep the focus assist on whilst filming, apart from that! Thank you for making this!.Version: 1.0.1

Could be my go to app but….Having invested in the majority of Moment’s M series lenses I decided to purchase their app and discovered they provide corrections for their various lenses. And now that I’m replacing my M series lenses with their new T series lenses which I’m hoping will show a marked improvement in IQ. The caveat I have and why I don’t give the Blackmagic camera app a 5 star rating is there is no way to utilize the Apple Watch to control shooting HQ rear facing lens vlogging content. It appears the now defunct Filmic Pro and native camera apps support this feature. A shame as the Blackmagic camera app has the potential to be a massive game changer for mobile content creators like myself when used in conjunction with add on lenses from Moment, Sandmarc, etc. If Filmic Pro could make this work, why hasn’t Blackmagic done the same thing?.Version: 1.2

Wow! Excellent App!Game changing app from a best in class company!.Version: 1.0.1

A must have app for mobile filmmakingWhether you are familiar or not with blackmagic menu systems, this is really simple to use and a lot of features packed into a free app. It’s too good! I’ve always wanted a reliable app whenever I’d want to film something with my phone. You can load luts. Nice! First thing I noticed was that when you zoom you don’t get that exposure and weird jitters when jumping from ultrawide lens, then to wide and medium as you do in the regular camera app. I can’t wait to explore the message system in the app. Everything is just so clean as usual with BM products. Thank you, Blackmagic Design!.Version: 1.0.1

Great AppThis app is definitely the best app I have found to use on my iPhone for video. Does an excellent job and it interfaces with jump drives which are important in the fact that I don’t want to use up the memory on my phone. I have interfaced it with a Sandis 512 GB jump drive. also of interfaced it with a one terabyte SD card with apples, SD card reader. this is an excellent app..Version: 1.2

Love it.Hey team, would love to see a stills mode too, and a way to keep the LED light on during shooting.Version: 1.2.1

Good, but..This app is really good, but can we get some type of LOG for phones that do not support Apple Log? Filmic Pro managed to implement one in their app a couple of years back, it would be nice to get something similar for unsupported phones..Version: 1.2

Pro feel, pro resultsThis app has an incredible professional feel ergonomy. All the parameters are easy to access and the UI is intuitive and easy to use. Otherwise a big feature missing to me to take family/friends shots is the pause/resume record button..Version: 1.2

Lovely AppThank you so much for Creating this amazing App. I Suggest to Everyone because working with Black magic camera is so easy and fast. Is not complicate app, saving time, friendly menu, and results are unbelievable professional..Version: 1.1

Flat profiles and bitrate selections are missingVery promising app but unfortunately it does not have flat profiles and ability to select a bitrate. It is currently similar to the standard Camera app’s bitrate. Having shutter speed displayed in angles is great..Version: 1.0.1

Please add option to take still photos as well!!Hi there, Great app but please add support for taking still photos. I’d rate the app 5/5 if it had this feature. That would be amazing. Thanks..Version: 1.1

First version feels polishedFor a first iteration of an app, this seems incredibly stable, robust with features, and easy to use. Having built in luts day one is awesome, so many exposure tools, great codec options, good color, and the list goes on. Amazing work Blackmagic team! I only have 4 criticisms (or more like recommendations). My first criticism is I wish there was a way to tap to focus without also turning on auto exposure. Its terrible when you have everything locked in, then you tap to focus and now your exposure is messed up. Second criticism is that it uses a histogram for exposure. I wish I could change that to a wave form. Wave form is more useful as a quick reference when exposing the whole frame and find myself relying less and less on histograms. My last request is I hope we get a 10bit log codec for older iPhones (the 14 can handle a 10bit log file proven by other apps). Would be nice to push the colors a bit more and see if we could squeeze a bit more dynamic range out of the iPhone sensor. Overall, amazing app so far and I’m excited to see updates pushed out in the future. I cannot imagine filmic pro being happy about this app not only being free, but being better in many ways. Considering the filmic app is a subscription (an expensive one at that), many users will be jumping to this immediately..Version: 1.0.1

ExcellentExcellent app from an innovative company 👍.Version: 1.0.1

I love this app BUTI really love this app and I love the direction blackmagic is going with it. But for my personal use, I really wish when you’re in the cloud dashboard and you delete media from the cloud, I wish you could choose where it deletes from. Right now it deletes on my computer and on the cloud, but not on the camera I recorded it from. I wish it was backwards where it deleted it from the camera, and the cloud kept it on the computer that I’m editing on, it’d be nice if you had the option to choose which locations media deleted from when you delete media. But other than that I’m really loving this app and I’m excited to see where it goes..Version: 1.0.1

Will be amazing with LogWill this have a log recording color space option in the future? Don’t see it currently..Version: 1.0.1

Promising!Considering it’s a new app, I won’t hold it to the same standard as an aged application. This app definitely shows a lot of promise, hitting some of the features I have desired control over. I mostly wanted to throw in the features I would find valuable to add! Control over the camera light would be phenomenal. One of the big issues I encounter with Apple’s native camera app is the inability to take photos with the light on, I need to be able to see the object with the lighting before taking the photo. I take macro photography of bugs, so a sudden flash is much more likely to scare them off. My only option has been recording snippets to take photos, but I have to sacrifice a lot of quality. The light would be world changing! Would also like to access the alt macro camera (not the .5), that would be awesome..Version: 1.2

Great app, needs to improve autofocusI am a great fan of Black Magic for giving us the DaVinci Resolve. Now giving us this free iPhone app which overtime will be on par with Filmic Pro and Cinema P3 pro camera. I downloaded and tested it. In addition to other suggestions in other reviews, I noticed that when I changed from 24 fps to 60 fps that there is a delay in autofocus while you move the camera around. Autofocus is not continuous. I’m sure that will change soon. Great app nevertheless. Update: kudos to Black Magic for continuous updates of this app. It is my go to app now and on par with their competition and exceeding. I like the Apple log profile for HEVC which saves storage and addition of Apple log to rec709 option. Keep the updates coming and you will be dominating iPhone video recording.Version: 1.2

Best Video Making App so farUpdate 1.2 made fast and smoothly scrolling of any dial impossible, as anytime the speed of finger slowed to below a certain speed, it will enter a “precise mode” and barely move even if you swipe to the edge of the screen. The feel is very binary, and completely unintuitive. I would like to request that this feature to be optional or even reverted in the next update, as the previous version is already accurate enough even for a single stop adjustment. Also, there seems to be a bug when working with a Nucleus Nano, once in a while the image will zoom in to above 10x and stays there, or zoom in a little bit and out, which is quite weird. This problem persists from the last version, the probability of triggering dropped, but it still happens. BTW, big applause for the addition of false color while recording, save me the cost of an HDMI adaptor and an external monitor, and avoided a complex setup, thank you!.Version: 1.2

Almost perfectEverything else has been said already but there’s one single feature that could make this perfect and render filmic completely obsolete. That would be having the ability to film in one frame rate but have the file saved already re-timed/slo-mo’d - ie shoot a 2 second 60 fps clip, but the saved file is a 4 second 30 fps clip. Please add this feature!! I rely on this extensively for filming reels of home interiors for real estate. Right now Filmic is the only app that does this but this app is far superior- I’d really like to switch! Please add this!.Version: 1.1

Can’t figure out how to enable LOG on my 15 Pro MaxI just received my new iPhone today but don’t see any setting to enable LOG recording, just SDR & HDR, but hopefully now that the phones are out Blackmagic will address this. Also there’s a big bonus to using this app if you want to record 60 fps ProRes, as unlike using the stock camera app, this allows for 60 fps ProRes internally up to ProRes 4444!.Version: 1.0.1

Great App that need auto iso selection that is not locked to shutter speed!Great job Blackmagic! Apart from the list of features like log recording, and others would it be possible to have auto iso selection with a locked off shutter speed/angle? It is important to have the shutter speed locked but have Auto ISO for quick recordings?.Version: 1.1

This is fantastic!I cannot wait to see the next version upgrade!.Version: 1.2

Next LevelHere’s the deal. BMD for years has closed a gap any other company just wasn’t interested in closing. And it wasn’t a fluke. It’s been for a crazy long time. Continual support. Continual innovation. I run a 12 old switcher among 5 new ones I own. And the company that made that accessible for me to start, is offering a standout app…free. It looks awesome, it “feels” real. Like their cameras. Honestly, thanks guys. Thanks for pushing what can be. It’s honest, and it’s quality and there’s not a ton of that..Version: 1.0.1

Great app but…Everything I’ve been looking for, however…be careful with the Timelapse recording setting. There is zero indication in the viewfinder when that setting has been toggled. Shot a Timelapse sequence and then an hour later shot some more clips in a location I can’t return to…and they were all in Timelapse mode, so useless. I love everything this app can do but not having an indication in the viewfinder when you are recording a Timelapse is a major overlook that I’m hoping will be a quick fix. How your listening Blackmagic and thanks for the effort on this app so far. (Also, every once in awhile the top menu seems to be unresponsive in the media tab..Version: 1.1

Great but…Everything is really great but I wish there were a few things: 1. BMD log for iPhones other than the 15 Pro 2. Different exposure metering options 3. Emphasizes frame borders when recording Huge fan of Blackmagic products though. Thanks for making something so great for the phone when no one asked.Version: 1.0.1

App looks good but LUT issues? The app seems very good at v1.1, it’d be great if it could integrate with the manual controls on my zhiyun smooth 4 gimbal. This would make it my go to camera for all of my filming. I have had the menu at the top of the screen disappear a couple of times, this requires an app restart to get it back. Otherwise great job !.Version: 1.1

It is a great camera appIt is a very beautiful application and gives high control of the camera that I use almost your products from cameras and video mixer, but I have a suggestion, can you add the broadcast feature to the application even if it is with a monthly subscription?.Version: 1.2

Can’t hold my phone with the buttons on the topI like the app but it seems to force me to hold the phone what I would call upside down. I want the volume buttons on the top but then the display of the settings etc are upside down. Am I missing something?.Version: 1.0.1

Phenomenal camera app, just needs a LOG profile. Is BMD Film gamma even possible on an iPhone?.Version: 1.0.1

OMG for freeI always wanted the same control over a simple iPhone app as I do over my pro camera. I now have it. Blackmagic have again done for free what you would expect to pay proper money for. Nice one..Version: 1.0.1

Good app but no support for 5x optical zoom?Well designed app but doesn’t seem to support new 120mm focal (5x zoom) length on iPhone 15 pro max? I cannot see the switch to the 5x lens when I zoom in past 4x..Version: 1.0.1

A Reason to buy an iPhone 15 ProTo be clear, as the owner of a DSLR, the claims made for sensors on phones are ridiculous. No. The iPhone pro is NOT a professional device. Even with computational photography, one close look at a low light pic shows the truth pretty quickly. However. Now that this app can record Prores 4444 to an external drive it’s a game changer. The ease this creates in the NLE workflow makes an iPhone an ideal capture device. Now let’s see if these 48Mp sensors are worth their salt….Version: 1.0.1

Gimbal SupportHave only just seen this app having been a Filmic Pro user for many years. This app appears to offer many features not present on Filmic, most notably much better exposure control - the only thing that I can see is missing is integration with bluetooth gimbals. If this feature is added in the future then definitely a 5* app..Version: 1.1

Epic features & easy to useI’ve been using this app on my iPhone 15 pro with apple log, the app is super easy to use for a beginner and my footage is coming out great..Version: 1.1

Awesome app! Shutter angle > 360?Awesome app! Would be even better if we could increase the shutter angle > 360 to have a slow shutter effect in camera!.Version: 1.0.1

Simply great!Support for recording videos with LUT is a game changer. Nice addition! Great app!.Version: 1.2

Getting log to workIn order for log to show up in the color space option, you must do a fresh install/ download on your iPhone 15. If you are migrating the app from an earlier iPhone model the log option will not appear. Simply delete the app on your 15 and then reinstall if you are migrating and all is good..Version: 1.0.1

Exceptionally well designed great camera applicationThis is amazing how much better this app compared to any other similar app (free or paid) in the AppStore. This is easy SIX out Five star. Two weeks after initial release updated addressing main issues reported by users. This is flawless victory over Filmic. I still can’t believe it’s free..Version: 1.1

RIP FilmicI never review apps, but what Blackmagic has done here is nothing short of breathtaking. All the features I loved in Filmic at an incredible price ($0), with far superior UI and way faster startup times. The market leader in iOS filmmaking camera apps, Filmic Pro, is a total gouge using a subscription monetization model with an old, janky UI and I will never be going back. The only thing I miss is the drag/lock UI for the focus and exposure which I found intuitive, but the traditional tap here works fine. I'm also a recent convert to Davinci Resolve and just love it. Thank you Blackmagic for everything you do! Love your products lots and they've enabled me to do so much..Version: 1.2

Amazing app!I do love the app and the constant updated that comes packed with added features! If I'd request a feature that would be: - is there any way to use the buttons on the phone as a custom buttons within the app? It would be nice to have LUTs preview on/off switch, changing focal length, codec selection etc..Version: 1.2

I see great things in this apps future!Mark my words, this app will surpass all others mobile apps in photography and filmmaking. Absolutely breathtaking the amount of features available for free. I of course see room for improvement but for the moment those criticism pale in comparison to the benefits. Can’t wait to see what comes. 😁👍.Version: 1.2

Wishes do come true!As we know ProRes log on the new iPhone 15 pro is a game changer. However the native app does not allow the user to control shutter angle so the result is still the same jittery mobile footage. This is where this app along with apple log make professional results now possible. Within days Divinci Resolve also updated to include apple log colour space transform. I take my hat off to those behind the scenes at Blackmagic. They truly understand the needs of cinematographers whether amateur filmmakers or industry professionals..Version: 1.0.1
