✓ BM can you explainWhen outside is bright light , user opens the BMC and screen shows total white. Then it goes back to normal showing what’s in front of the camera. However then when hit record button the camera goes right back to total white screen mode until the user taps the screen. Then it goes back to normal recording mode. The user has to then trim off the recorded few seconds of totally white screen video. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong ?.MauijoeVersion: 1.1

✓ Not right screen size for iPad.Yes, it’s a great app, but I don’t understand why it only has an iPhone scaled sceen. IPads are not in the comprehensive compatibility list, so along with the screen size issue, why is it downloadable on an iPad. Seems a bit weird..TJ-CanadaVersion: 1.0.1

✓ Iso settings worse with update?Just updated and now my minimum iso can’t be set below 40? before i could set 34. also i cant set my iso to a custom number anymore i used to be able to drag the slider between a range of numbers now it seems you’re locked to steppings of 5 or 10. i cant set an odd number anymore like iso 88 or iso 155. (iphone 13) please allow us to just type in an exact iso number? i hate using the slider! finally please give an option so only save files to the camera roll! only having an option to save to camera roll & the blackmagic app at the same uses sooooo much storage!!.Lissen doodVersion: 1.2

✓ Updated - Major SSD issues?UPDATE 22/10/23 - I have found what seems to be a major flaw when recording to external SSD. Firstly it never remembers that you want to record to SSD if you unplug the drive and then plug back it reverts to saving to phone only and you have to go through the rigmarole of setting it as the destination again. Also, and this is really major - it corrupted my SSD. Now this could be an Apple issue too but what I do know is that the Blackmagic Camera App showed my drive and just started flashing red constantly after taking some footage. When I plugged back into Mac it would not mount. I’ve had to reformat it. It’s a brand new Crucial X9 Pro and has only ever been used with BMC as I specifically bought of for recoding ProRes Log. Another serious overshot is that focus is related to exposure and not separate like Fimlic Pro, once you start really trying to use this app you will see exactly what I mean. Ok, back to original review - PREVIOUSLY - Thank you Blackmagic for creating a proper camera app for the iPhone that does not involve monthly subscriptions. The interface is wonderful and I feel right at home as I use the BMPCC 6K Pro too. There are just a couple of really irritating issues that I have found. First up is the manual focus control disappears when you press record - that’s rather silly! Of course it would also be great if we could set focus points for pulling focus automatically if you get what I mean (like filmic pro). Would be beneficial too for a button somewhere that puts you in full auto (for the more casual users out there). Lastly I would love the option to bake in the LUT as sometimes we want to just shoot a clip and upload it to social media without having to edit and colour grade it. ✓ You get what you pay for I suppose.Useless. On 13 pro max (updated to ios17) app continually gets ‘stuck’, if you leave the app and then reopen it, the view of the camera will suddenly be outside of the screen area, and there’s no access to any settings other than picture quality, no access to any controls. You have to delete the app and reinstall it and try and get your footage quickly. If you leave the app and return, it’s stuck again. Was really looking forward to this. It’s exclusively designed to be used on a tripod, or by a right hander. When using it left handed, you’ll either cover the lenses with your hand, or the controls will all be upside down. ✓ We need the lower ISOs backWhen I used this app last week it was mostly perfect outside at ISO 55 and my variable ND set to maximum (shooting 4K 24p with 180 shutter angle). Now on the main camera it only allows you to go down to ISO 64, meaning that even with the ND filter at max, you get overexposure in the highlights. You can cheat this by going to one of the other cameras that inexplicably allow for lower ISOs, turning it down to the lowest setting, and then going back to the main camera, which defaults it back to ISO 55. Just Needs Apple Watch Remote AppGreat iPhone app. Needs a dedicated apple watch camera remote app like the standard iPhone camera has so that you monitor and remotely stsrt/stop recording of the camera from an apple watch when your iphone is on a boom/jib arm or you are self recording. Currently I have to switch back to the default camera just to use apple watch as a camera remote. It's also cumbersome to turn on/off false color. Ideally you could select a preferred exposure tool and have it be one press to toggle it on/off. Right now it takes 3 taps to turn false color (for example on/off which is too slow for real world use. This last one is more of a wish list item but it would be great in settings to be able to set a base iso and then adjust exposure based on stops instead of micro adjustments of iso for a faster exposure setting workflow. I will adjust rating to 5 stars once there is a functional apple watch companion remote app and it's easier to turn false color on/off..Jaay28333Version: 1.1

✓ Great startThis app is a great start and definitely heading in the right direction. The scopes and exposure tools need a lot of work yet however. Apple log appears to be very bright and currently both the false color and zebras in the app which only go down to 75% don’t really work for working with the new Apple log video. Shooting log video on the new iPhones is pretty much an auto take what you get sort of thing right now. The app needs better scopes, zebras that can be used down to 50% at least and adjustable false color values. I would also like to see a way to force a certain shutter speed but allow auto adjusting of the ISO. For those moments we want to lock in the look of a certain shutter speed. For now I use my light meter to help dial in a manual exposure but we really need better tools to manually expose Apple log right in the app..SmetIOSVersion: 1.0.1

✓ It’s worse than I thought! Not only…Not only is the white angle camera unavailable in the app, it appears that this app only uses the main camera even at magnifications from 5X to 25X. I was suspicious when I never saw that telltale bump in the video when the camera switches from one lens to another. But I did a test by covering the 5X camera while zooming from X to 10 X and the 5X camera on the iPhone 15 Pro Plus never kicks into usage. ✓ Love it, but BUGGY:BUG: the app starts automatically recording when opened. Initially the record button shows an “!” mark over it which flashes. Thereafter the app will automatically start recording when you open the Camera tab. This creates a ton of useless clips. FEATURE REQUEST: please add the ability to rotate the app into horizontal or upside down in either orientation. Sometimes when shooting with a rig it is best to have the camera on the right side or upside down. Also, please add the ability to lock the shutter speed and have the ISO auto adjust — that would make exposing while maintaining the same motion blur much more flexible. ✓ 1 major UI design flaw, otherwise a great appThis app is exactly what I was looking for except for one issue with the UI. When you have the phone in landscape mode, the UI is only in the correct orientation when you turn the phone to the left and that puts the volume keys, which I use to trigger recording, on the bottom left of the phone which is awkward. If you turn the phone to the right so the volume keys are on top right, where the record button is on every other camera, the app still goes into landscape mode but all the UI is upside down. Same thing happens when the phone is in portrait but upside down (charge port on top). The UI is only in the correct orientation when in regular portrait or turned 90degrees to the left. ✓ Focus versus exposureVery happy with all the features and support for iPhone 15 pro max except no easy and obvious ability to separate exposure from focus. Would really like separate ability to lock exposure and only use tap to focus. Also would like control over speed to focus to simulate rack focus.
