✓ Game won’t download on iPhoneAs others have experienced, the game simply won’t complete the initial download on an iPhone 15 Pro Max with ample storage. No error messages, no warnings, just a screen endlessly showing that the “game will launch after 12.6GB have been installed”. ✓ A great game that isn’t optimized wellDon’t get me wrong, I love Death Stranding. I love every aspect of the game, but this port is simply unplayable. First of all, the game is very blurry, which makes it really hard to see the amount of details this game actually has. So graphical options to let users choose how they want their game to look like, similar to Resident Evil: Village port on Apple Silicon devices, is needed. The game also has lot’s of optimizing issues. I couldn’t get through Episode 2 of the game when Sam has to take a shower because the game literally freezes at that moment. I assumed this is a RAM optimizing issue, since I’m using the base model of the 12.9” Pro M1, which has 8GB of RAM. I hope this review would encourage the devs to fix these problems as soon as possible, since I’d love to play the game everywhere I go without any limitations that can interrupt my experience, but this is simply impossible at the moment..Version: 1.1.2

✓ DO NOT BUY at the MomentBuggy and runs very badly especially in scenes where rain happens. Touch controls are jerky and unresponsive, its slightly better on controller but the game still stutters at times so be prepared to walk in a wrong direction. Then it says it is downloading game data and never downloads. Zero on progress bar after multiple attempts. ✓ Fun, but compatibility is TOO limited.Out of all of my Apple products, iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs, and Macs, I have one device this will run on. ✓ Frame rate drops and frequent crashesThe game looks great, and when it works it’s a great experience. Unfortunately frame rates drop often and the gameplay becomes very choppy. It even happens during some cut scenes. Just now I was playing and after about 45 minutes of relatively fine gameplay, when leaving the incinerator in the first episode, the frame rate started to drop dramatically until it just froze. The music was still on, but the screen was frozen and buttons didn’t do anything. Not really playable like this. I’m on an iPhone 15 Pro Max. ✓ M1 Pro Max - screen tearingI’ve got this on my PS4, albeit not the Directors Cut, and it’s one of the finest games ever made. The fact it works on my M1 iPad is crazy. However, there are a couple of problems. The Mac version suffers minor screen tearing at the default 2K resolution, which does spoil things slightly. There seems to be little consideration placed on optimisation of the iOS version; the install size is way too big for the device. Well, not unless you have nothing else installed. Perhaps the devs could have made the iOS version device specific, for example, reducing the texture sizes and down sampling some of the sound slightly. As it stands 150+GB install is a bit steep on such a small device. If the screen tearing on the Mac version could be fixed, it would be nigh-on perfect..Version: 1.1.2
✓ Looks great, plays lousyThe port is just as gorgeous as it is on PS5. The gameplay is lousy. The big issue is that much of the interactions for using things like ladders or building structures relies mouse clicks that the mac doesn't support (as near as I can tell). You need a right click to position a ladder, then add a left click to actually place it. This doesn't work on a MBP with a trackpad. This is also an issue when building stuff with a PCC. To place a marker in the map, you need to click the scroll wheel, which the mac doesn't support. And, these commands can't be remapped to a keyboard equivalent. ✓ Download issuesHello Developers, I am unable to download this app on a high speed connection from my home network. When using the network at my local University I only get 4MB/s speed, when the highest speed supported is 40MB/s. For a 70GB game this make downloading it virtually impossible. I found on the iPhone version it was nice to have a small download in the app store and download the rest directly from the developer's servers. Please consider a similar solution for the Mac App. I would like to play this game I purchased but can't due to poor network performance when downloading. I purchased it through the Mac App store since it includes an iPhone version of the game, otherwise I would have used a different place to purchase the app. I am disappointed since this is the first AAA game titile I have purchased from the Mac App Store. ✓ Massive update sizeThe first update for this game that only includes "various minor bug fixes" is about 60 gigabytes. I don't have super fast wifi so this is a multiple hour download just to fix some small things. This feels really lazy and unoptimised. I'd imagine they only changed a bit of code but for some reason are making users reinstall the entire game from scratch with each update. ✓ Graphics + Keyboard ControlsOverall, the game feels amazing and l’m really glad they brought keyboard and mouse support but there are two things l’m hoping they can bring to make my review higher, 1. Keyboard and Mouse Ui issues - l’m so happy a triple a game has come to the iPad and with the add on with keyboard and mouse support. I wish all the Ui in the game can show all the controls when the keyboard is connected because l’m having a hard time trying to figure out what controls are what 2. Graphics - I’m playing on the M2 version on the iPad and some scenes in the game from just standing out in the mountain and other parts of the game just makes everything looks so low resolution. ✓ Wow!This game is a 5 star that’s a 3 for reasons which should easily be fixed. I’m anticipating these being addressed but it’d be nice to have some communication from the devs. I’m shocked this is on an iPhone. Some people have reviewed this and said it doesn’t look good. That’s untrue. Generally it runs and looks great! Here’s what it needs: 1. Crashing must be addressed. I have to save the game every 2-3 minutes because the game goes through areas where it crashes a lot, then moments where it’s fine. Auto save every few minutes would help. The game needs graphics settings. I prefer lower graphics without metal fx because I don’t like upscaling blur. Please provide us these options similar to how resident evil did. TLDR: looks great plays great, those clowning on it are wrong. -Crashing is an issue, goes through waves of crashing, then none, then crash again putting you way back to a previous save/location. -need auto save -need graphics options, not all like metal fx upscaling. Opinion: If those needs are met this is 5 star. If not, and crashing doesn’t get fixed, it’s a cool demo of a17, and fundamentally unplayable in the long term, all while being disappointing to us who want mobile AAA to take off NOW :) Please devs, fulfill its potential..Version: 1.1.2

I have the same issue others have reported in that in certain cutscenes, The video freezes but the audio continues. The only recovery from this is to force quit the game and then continue. Currently, I am in the cut scene in my room and getting ready to take a shower. So far after 3 freezes and trying to skip the scene, I have frozen up each time making progression impossible at this time. Beautiful game but the freezing needs to be addressed. ✓ The game is good. Everything mac is the weird part.In a strange turn of events apple is the user experience problem here. Most of the problems with the game are due to the mac and not the game itself. You'll have to activate apples "game center" registration. Otherwise the icon just displays in the lower app tray. Nothing happens. You'll have to force quit and then activate game center for it to work. Also, be advised that it's not intuitive playing this on a home TV. I use the xbox controller and it works fine but it's clunky getting the console experience on a tv with your laptop. Sometimes the game has the white app top bar other times the screen just goes black and I have to touch the mac mouse pad to "wake" it up. This might be due to my energy saving/screen settings. Basically I sit with the laptop half open and the screen blacked out connected to an hdmi to my 4k tv ready to stirr the laptop when the screen goes black. I want games on mac to work but I'm coming from consoles not PC's. It's a little more fuss than I'd like right now but the game seems to be worth all that. ✓ Fails to Run of my M2 MacBook ProAfter waiting for the 77GB game to download and install on my M2 MacBook Pro with 24GB RAM and 2TB storage, it failed to run. It sat in the dock with a black dot below the icon and did nothing for over an hour. I forced quit the game, rebooted my MacBook and it still failed to run. This surprised me as I've installed on my M1 iPad Pro and the game run fine after installing a further 12GB of game data on top of 43 GB app size. I've uninstalled the game on the MacBook Pro, and will try resinstalling at a later date. I only thing I did note was Apple's Family app was not responding why Death Stranding was attempting to load.
