Kino - Pro Video Camera for Negative User Reviews

Waste of MoneyThis constantly crashes. I wish I could get my money back..Version: 1.0.1

Receive an error after every videoReceive an error after every video, when it’s saving..Version: 1.0.1

Limited feature set. Might be good for hobbyists that want something quick.Markets itself as a professional app, but doesn’t allow you to set white balance..Version: 1.0.2

Filters you already haveGarbage.Version: 1.0.1

Feel ScammedRecorded 1 hour + video with tweaked settings, started running slow towards end. Then when I ended the recording it crashed. It said it was taking up storage somewhere, then it went away. Won't be using again, hoping for a refund since now it crashes and I can't rely on it to reliably record..Version: 1.0.1

Crashes so often on so many settingsIPhone 18 mini user, and this app crashes so often on so many settings. Even bumping down to 24 FPS it’s not (yet?) usable. I waited for a few updates to post. The 3 stars are earned because I see there are many updates happening and I’m hoping things get sorted out soon..Version: 1.0.3

Audio is an Afterthought?I shot a live concert yesterday using Kino exclusively. The app crashed a few times, which is forgivable for a V1, but when I play back the successful recordings, the audio is unusable. The quality of the audio seems ok, but it’s way out of sync with the image, and seems to cut entire chunks out. If it was just a timing issue, I could adjust it to match, but it’s unworkable and unusable. During capture, the VU meters were peaking at the slightest noise and there’s no setting to reduce the input levels. Very disappointing for a paid, professional app..Version: 1.0.4

Nice app. Crashes CONSTANTLYOn my iPhone 15 Pro Max. Crashing constantly. Especially while trying to load some videos to apply Luts to. Very unreliable. Perhaps beta test before $$. Can’t use this for anything I rely on..Version: 1.0.1

No geotaggingEvery camera app should have geotagging.Version: 1.0.2

A complete jokeProfessionals (and amateurs) beware. This app is limited and overpriced. That might be fine (who am I to stop people being separated from their money) if it actually worked. What’s wrong with it? Let’s see: LUT import is broken, effect selection is laggy beyond belief, focus peaking is useless, the video feed freezes constantly, and most importantly, the footage is not consistent or reliable. The app skips to the point that 120 fps video becomes 50 fps or lower. That’s on a BRAND NEW, top of the line iPhone with NO effect applied. It’s even worse on older phones even at lower frame rates. There are plenty of good camera apps on the store so look elsewhere..Version: 1.0.1

Ruined reputationThe app is nothing close to being polished. Sure there’s beautiful good looking UI but that’s about it. Details need a LOT of polishing Also what’s up with the LUTs I can select? No matter the colourspace and the codec I can only see 7 LUTs but in settings there are 12 + Neutral. Weird.Version: 1.0.1

Ok, but needs some basic “pro” featuresThe app has some good things going for it - ease of use, preset grades - but it’s missing a few basic “pro” features, custom white balance, focus peaking, and timecode..Version: 1.0.1

Too heavy on processor and easily crashes and glitchesHeavily do not recommend this app. The entire app freezes up when recording, and captures glitchy and spotty recordings. I’ve tried full 4k with 24, 30, 60 fps and it has not recorded a single good video. Color grading seems to be great and everything is awesome, but it doesn’t matter at all if it can’t even capture basic video. Not even close to worth the money if this doesn’t get fixed soon. iPhone 13 and iOS 17.4.1 Edit: did some more testing and it seems to just be an issue with processor overload. I bet this app works great on newer phones, but my phone’s not *that* old, and kinda disappointing to know that they didn’t do any real testing to make the app backwards compatible. Would like to love this app, but this needs to be fixed ASAP or just only offered to newer iPhones..Version: 1.0.1

App won’t openOnly the opening marketing screens open. Freezes on preference for Regular/Custom despite restarting phone and reclosing app. No mention in FAQs and hard to contact Customer support. Beware until they fix this.Version: 1.0.1

Missing features and occasionally crashesFor a ‘pro’ app it’s really quite disappointing. It understand that it’s meant for more of a professional style of video shooting but it feels like it’s missing some key features that make it take longer to set up your shot and use, it puts me off using the app in it’s current state. I’ve tried to consolidate a list of bugs/ features I’d like to see addressed below: Bugs/Fixes: If you have the grid overlay turned on when you fully close the app, the next time you open it, the grid is switched off again. The app should remember the previous setting. When changing colour space, specifically from sRGB to Apple Log, the live preview freezes and the app needs to be restarted. There doesn’t seem to be any focus peaking in either manual or auto focus (I thought I read that there was that feature in this app). Features to add: Ability to tap to focus and easily lock focus (this would make it so much quicker when setting up different shots. Ability to set a specific white balance and lock that so that it can be consistent when recording multiple video clips in the same environment. Overall, the UI of the app is really nice and the general controls feel good. It just needs those improvements for it to become my go to app in my content creating process. For reference, I am running iOS 17.5.1 on an iPhone 15 Pro..Version: 1.0.1

Crashes like crazyI don’t know why I paid for this app. It crashes after 2 seconds of hitting record on iPhone 11 Pro with latest iOS. Will ask for refund.Version: 1.0.4

Record with volume buttons?Why can’t I record with the volume buttons?.Version: 1.0.2

No goodApp performs terrible compared to other apps even default camera app. Recording quality looks terrible, cannot zoom in our out while recording. This app is not ready to be published. Stick with Blackmagic Camera. It’s free and has way more features than this. I wanted to give this a try because their photo app is excellent and app privacy policy is user friendly..Version: 1.0.2

No audio in playbackWhen I try to watch the video in the Kino app, there’s no audible sound. I made sure the volume is all the way up and I am speaking while recording..Version: 1.0.1

Has potential but still needs work.Pros: The interface is very intuitive, clean, and simple. The automotion and the instant grade features really differentiate this app from the competition and simplify the shooting process. Cons: More than half the grades are only available for log footage so if you don't have an iPhone 15 you won't have access to them. It's a shame they couldn't produce equivalent grades for standard rec709 as well but maybe they will in the future? I also tried to import multiple LUTs from my davinci resolve folder but could not get any to import successfully despite the LUTs working fine in Davinci. The .cube files were within the 33x33 size limit as well so not sure what the issue was there. Also external microphones do not seem to be supported. I tested with the Hollyland Lark m2 Bluetooth microphones and was unable to get it to work. This is a shame given that this is supposed to be a pro app and audio quality from the onboatlrd iphone microphone leaves much to be desired. Hopefully this can be added in the near future. Finally, there is no tap to focus or tap to adjust exposure like there is in the default iphone camera app. This may have been a deliberate design decision but it would be nice to have the option to enable/disable these features for those who want them..Version: 1.0.1

KinoWon't open Stuck at setup I paid good money for this garbage app.Version: 1.0.1

No hdr if auto gradingThe custom settings says that HDR rec2020 is enabled with 4K and the hevc as a codec, but actually, what is being recorded is SDR. so the only option to have HDR in the app is to use the Apple style, which is basically the same workflow as using the Apple camera app. If you have anything, but the very latest iPhone 15 pro, instant grade is not usable in an hdr workflow. But that is very much Apple fault, not the devs..Version: 1.0.1

The app freezesI installed the Kino app on my iPhone 14 Pro Max, opened the app and it froze after the first few intro screens. I deleted the app, rebooted and tried again. Same problem. I cannot get past the intro pages..Version: 1.0.1

I’d love to try itIt sounds like it has a lot of great features. Unfortunately, there is currently no way to advance past the tutorial screens to actually start using the app itself..Version: 1.0.1

App crashingLove Halide however this app crashes when you press record every time. iPhone 13 mini. Please fix!.Version: 1.0.1

Early ReviewThis is very early review, few thing I’ve noticed right away. 1# no Tap to Focus and lock, 2# after app closed from memory it goes back to Auto Exposure from Manual, Grid, Histogram … etc. It needs to remember ALL settings, too much adjust every time to open. #3 i do understand you trying to make smooth UI but you do feel choppiness while scrolling Menu, LUTs scroll wheel. (iPhone 15 Pro Max) It’s on the right path as far as simplistic UI. I feel above fixes are critical..Version: 1.0
