Quip - Docs, Chat, Sheets for Negative User Reviews

Crashes almost immediately every time, unusableThe app crashes render it completely unusable on a new iPhone 13. Several weeks ago it crashed before loading a thing. Then an update allowed it to run a couple seconds before crashing. Latest update as of 4/28 it runs for maybe 5 seconds before crashing. Every time without fail. Restarted device, uninstalled and reinstalled app, makes no difference. Very frustrating..Version: 7.59.0

Quip Document Formatting and copy and pasteI have been using Quip for about a year in our place of business. Quip is ok for a messaging tool, but really lacking in document formatting. Fonts letter heads copy and paste pictures and tables are not user friendly. I just mostly have to create the doc in a different program then paste it in Quip for the sharing functions across the business. I find this very time consuming. If possible I would like them to fix these issues..Version: 5.5.10

The worst iPad app I have to use• difficult to edit spreadsheets • difficult to select multiple cells using touch • unable to widen columns • unable to change the name of a sheet in a doc Excel and Numbers are better alternatives.Version: 7.33.2

Constantly crashingThese days when I open the app it crashes after less than 10 seconds.Version: 7.72.5

Please fix: tapping to edit takes you to top of documentThe quip app is actually quite good, but has one INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING feature (bug). If you’re reading a document (let’s say it’s 30 pages long). If you tap anywhere in the doc (e.g., which usually drops in a cursor to start editing), Quip takes you all the way up to the top of the document, losing your place and completely disrupting all flow, and then you have to scroll for 10 seconds and find your place again. PLEASE FIX THIS. It’s an absolutely awful experience marring an otherwise really useful app. Reproducible on 2018 iPad Pro 11” with Magic Keyboard attached..Version: 7.59.0

NotificationsI don’t receive the notification although they are turned on everywhere....?.Version: 7.12.0

Terrible!Whatever change you just did making people sign up for an account has made me lose all my lists! What a loss! Don’t waste your time with this app, it was great until they lost everything!.Version: 7.56.4

Buggy and hard to useThe app needs a lot of improvement..Version: 7.72.5

Awful clunky app!Find both desktop and iPhone app clunky, unnecessarily difficult, much prefer teams as a collaboration tool.Version: 5.4.12

Quip for Sheets needs major workUpdated review as of November 2021: Still a ways to go. The app is not innovating fast enough. Still no support of multiple windows. Keyboard shortcuts are better, but still can’t do something like conduct a search easily. No way to view multiple documents at the same time. For some reason on iOS the document view defaults to comment threads. Glad to see improvements being made, but I know this app can be better! Original review: I thought access to my Sheets on iPadOS with an iPad Pro and Smart Keyboard would be helpful for adding mobility to my productivity with Quip. The reality is, this app is even worse than the web-app counterpart in Safari for working with Sheets. Want to navigate between cells using your keyboard? Nope. Can’t navigate around cells using the arrow keys. This app is wedged between touch screen and type, causing you to go back and forth to get any real inputs/edits done in Sheets. Also, no Dark Mode support. Files app integration doesn’t work natively (it appears as a source, but you can’t browse files using it—a modal window appears with blank results)..Version: 7.47.1

WorthlessApp crashes as soon as I try to create a document..Version: 5.5.2

So buggy it's too hard to useGeneral text editing is fine, but when it comes to tables or really anything else except for text it's a nightmare. Table formatting gets corrupted whenever you visit a cell from your iOS quip app. There's no way to undo. And typing at the bottom of a dock has issues where the view scroll position is too high so you can't see what you're typing because the keyboard is over the content. On top of all this, no custom keyboards are enabled so you're stuck without shape writing which is how I'm writing this review so quickly. Overall just a really big pain to use quip. Wish the team would pay attention to it's quality more..Version: 5.4.5

Great idea but could be betterHow organization was looking for a tool for collaboration that would help simplify things. Will use Google drive and other tools, but to be frank, the mess and spiderweb of files has become overwhelming it is increasingly difficult to manage. We looked at Quip as a possible solution to help us to manage collaboration any more simple and streamlined way. Quit passes benefits and we continue to use Quip as a tool. It makes things a lot easier than working in Google and having to open multiple types of files and documents. You can use it on the web you can use a clients on your computer on Mac and you can use it on an iPhone or tablet. It’s very simple and straightforward. However, Quip does have a lot of quirks and limitations that you need to work around them through. Sharing files with people outside of your organization is not possible. Documents or files that you create within quip are absolutely not ready for sharing with people outside your organization because of issues like formatting. In general there’s a lot of opportunity to improve quip from the user experience standpoint and from a functionality perspective as well. The only question is how does quip achieve all of this without becoming big in burdensome such as Evernote..Version: 5.3.6

Desktop App Crashes IncessantlyI like using quip but my preference is to use the desktop app as it has more features than the web app but it crashes constantly. I haven’t been able to use it for over a month despite deleting and re-installing it because as soon as it opens it crashes (Microsoft operating system).Version: 7.35.0

It can not openQuip can not open today? It quit so frequently ….Version: 7.14.1

When there’s a problem technical service is unable to fix problemsI have been using Quip with Salesforce for the last couple months over the last two weeks the mobile application failed to sync with Salesforce none of my reports are updating on my mobile phones I have contacted tech support multiple multiple times each time they say it’s fixed and each time it is not fixed they do not want to get on a phone call with me everything is done through email please please be careful.Version: 5.4.3

Ugly icon, USA-friendly appThe latest version has a new icon which is possibly the worst I’ve seen for quite some time. Fortunately the application is and always has been very good. One big issue for me is the lack of 24 hour support for times in spreadsheets. So much of the world uses the 24 hour clock (ISO 8601), so I can’t think of a good reason this hasn’t been added already. And universal date format, for that matter. It’s like they’re only interested in US customers’ cash..Version: 5.5.3

Since salesforce acquired quip things are just going downhillUser experience has been so bad. Recent redesigns for the desktop app made quip unusable. We draft docs in word and hen upload them to quip. We basically use only the collaborative part of the app. Hope it gets better soon or we have to switch to Dropbox Paper..Version: 5.2.5

Ok for viewing your Quip docs, but don’t try and editThe app is iso buggy, the UX jumps all over the place. Does not work well with an external Keyboard on my iPad. Example: I added a HorizontalRule to a doc, but then I could not for the life of me, delete it! I had to go to the doc on my laptop once I returned to the office to clean it up. Navigating is problematic, and trying to search is extremely difficult. Not sure how it indexes documents, but the results are inconsistent. I love the collaboration aspects of the app, but if you can’t edit, what’s the need for collaboration?.Version: 7.41.0

If onlySeems ideal. Simple to add notes and share. But when I try to move notes into shared folder app consistently crashes - uninstalled. Shame.Version: 5.5.1

Crashes constantlyI can't have a document open for 30s before the app crashes.Version: 8.24.0

Makes my phone unresponsiveEvery time I open a Quip URL in Safari and the app opens, my phone becomes unresponsive. In addition, when viewing large tables, the app makes my iPhone 8 go bust to the point of a force reboot..Version: 5.2.1

No ability to use different keyboards makes it a read only appWithout being able to use alternative keyboards with the app such aboard, it's not feasible to make notes in the app. If this feature were to be added, it would be 5 stars..Version: 5.4.3

It's a piece of crapThe app is incredibly buggy. I try to edit my document and red text appears saying "The changes are not being saved." Then when I backspace, it deletes the entire line (a change which it apparently is able to save)!.Version: 5.5.3

Speed problemsLots of bugs. I can’t write too fast or else the app will crash. It’s really frustrating.Version: 7.41.0

Love Quip & Salesforce but the Mobile App is AwfulI get an error message frequently that there is an issue with my connection or documents may not be downloaded to my device when I have a fast and reliable connection. The app crashes over and over when trying to share a link to a document, sync between devices doesn’t work reliably, and access via link is still buggy. I love Quip but I’m struggling to see the perks amidst all the glitches..Version: 5.5.4

Excellent app but obvious improvements neededE.g. formatting options toolbar. The app seems to have stagnated over time..Version: 5.2.6

Finally info loadedWent to use app and while documents appear in the index, when they open all the info has gone Can't get app support to open Tried again and then once more, info did finally load, some columns were still missing.Version: 5.4.3

Reply from lock screenPlease add the ability to reply to a message from the lock screen. Also, why does the mobile notification show up what feels like 30 seconds before the desktop notification?.Version: 5.4.13

Revert to previous version plsLastest update has destroyed the usefulness of this app. Impossible to find our previous setup group chat! If this is what you want to e documents and other items work great. If you use this for group meetings, communication, find an alternative until this fixed, we are! ☹️.Version: 5.0

Nice, though a bit faultyWorking well in general though it's not clear when and how a review is submitted. Also, selecting one item on the Desktop (e.g. Examples folder) opens the one next to it (e.g. Archive folder). This way the first document is duplicated, so that the first item can be opened. Some nods weird? Have a look, but clearly a bug..Version: 3.0

PoorThe mobile app doesn’t sync with the laptop app. It’s virtually impossible to delete old lists. Pretty rubbish..Version: 8.24.0

Keeps crashing? Was working fine but now keeps crashing each time I open it??.Version: 7.14.2

App crashing on repeatApp crashes on multiple quip docs App reopens the most recent quip doc, which then causes the app to crash again.Version: 7.72.5

Everything was removedYour update deleted all my stuff..Version: 5.4.1

AhhhhhhhI went camping and had no internet to load it. Now i am home and have wi fi and it wont let me in the app. I have a lot of important lists and things on that app! Please fix it really fast! I need it!:).Version: 1.1

Mobile notifications settings ignored“Don’t send notifications” setting for mobile notifications is completely ignored..Version: 7.1.0

Decent… when it doesn’t crash :-(I’ve been using Quip on my iPad for a couple of weeks and it’s been working well so far, until today. Today it started very consistently crashing a few seconds after starting, no matter what I have open, and even on the folder list view. We use Quip at work with single-sign-on, so I can’t easily delete and re-install unless I have my laptop with me, which defeats the entire purpose of carrying my iPad to meetings instead of my clunky laptop that only has a few hours of battery life. Please fix the crashes!!.Version: 7.72.5

App crashes and hangsThe app for iphone is terrible. It crashes as soon as it is opened, or just hangs. It is unusable. And no complaints have been seriously taken..Version: 8.11.1

ConfusingConfusing. The app on my phone has certain folders and quip on my computer has others. There is no way to transfer folders from one “quip” to another. University IT was of No help after 1 1/2 hours. No way to get a hold to anyone at quip. So now I have to spend hours downloading everything. Uploading and “ hoping” the files. Also no way to know if this will keep happening. So having access on my phone through app is not possible. The desktop quip and app are not inter changeable. They have different files.Version: 7.72.5

Not user friendly designQuip would be amazing if the interface is designed to be more user friendly. The project management tracker is a great tool to use but super annoying when you have to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the task list before you can scroll to the right to see the remaining information for a particular row. There’s also a big awkward white space on the left when you first open the Quip page. I don’t understand why there’s no option to autofit content to window..Version: 5.5.2

Bugs on iPadI like quip, but some bugs on the iPad pro make me crazy. 1. When multitasking (split screen w/ quip being on half the screen), a lot of functionality disappears or is buggy. For example, I was unable to leave a comment - first because the comment bar at the bottom wouldn’t show no matter what i did. Second, once it randomly did show up, it wouldn’t open the comment pane. I had to bring it back to full screen. 2. When I highlight a word or touch to put my cursor in a different section, quip scrolls back to the top. Talk about insanely annoying! 3. Why can’t I pin certain tool bars or side bars? 4. I use quip within my enterprise organization. Thus, I don’t have a Salesforce account or whatever else its connected to. I cannot leave feedback because of it without making a personal account. Not worth my time, make it EASY to give feedback!.Version: 7.43.3

Not up to scratchThis app has hardly developed over the years, especially when compared to its web app and Mac app counterparts. On ios it’s STILL super buggy and lacking many of the basic functionality offered in the same app on other platforms. It’s MASSIVELY frustrating knowing what the app should be able to do and not having that capability. Basic stuff, like jumping straight to the folder view from anywhere in the app..Version: 7.18.0

Terrible for Spreadsheet UseDoes work as a spreadsheet app on mobile phone. Painful to use..Version: 7.68.0

DisappointingAbove all else Quip offers, I wanted a spreadsheet. Unfortunately, I found it very clumsy; an easy example being the extreme difficulty in being able to select the first column without finding myself editing the content of a cell in the input bar. I tried this for several minutes. I found a limited number of fill colours but was unable to find if or how to alter font colours, and black type on dark red background is not as good as white! there has obviously been some effort in making this a comprehensively interactive application - which it may do very well - but I do not require such ease of sharing and would have preferred a more competent spreadsheet..Version: 4.0

Good app but unstableI wanted to report the following bugs, unfortunately there is no “report bug” feature: 1. On big documents, searching the doc with the “find in document” feature crashes the application 2. On big docs: scrolling too fast crashes the application. New feature suggestion: Reading big documents on mobile is frustrating as the app doesn’t save where you left and every time you open the app you have to scroll from the beginning (=> very frustrating with big docs that keep on crashing the app on top of it) Other than that quip is a great application and I greatly enjoy reading and writing docs on it. I’ll happily update my review to 5* when those bugs are fixed..Version: 7.31.1

Constantly freezes and crashesThe app constantly freezes and crashes when editing spreadsheets. I have noticed it happens especially often when copying a row of data to paste. When typing, the text is also extremely delayed as you type making it nearly impossible to write anything. I am on a newer model iPhone and this problem only occurs in this app so it is not a hardware issue. It’s clear the developer does not support this app or care about maintaining this app well enough to make it usable..Version: 7.68.0

Great features but unclear about trial periodThe app has great features but I’ve learned not to invest in apps that don’t clarify their “free” or “trial” periods. I’d prefer if the developers were more forthcoming about the limitations of the trial period so users can make an educated decision about whether or not to upload their entire virtual world to the app. I don’t want the information I add to the app to be held for ransom of sorts if I decline to pay a fee once my trial period magically ends. For that reason alone, I wouldn’t recommend this app for couples and families who need to collaborate but aren’t companies or teams who’d be comfortable paying the $30/month fee to continue using the app after the trial period..Version: 5.2

Updates make app unstableEvery single time this app is updated, it will crash after a minute of use. It doesn't matter if you force close, restart your device, or anything. The only way to keep it from crashing after an update is to delete and download again. This has been the case for every update in at least the last six months..Version: 7.61.2

Please make a custom iPad appQuip is the best thing since sliced bread. My team is on it and we’re adding more people as the months continue on. Please make a custom iPad app that provides the same functionalities as the desktop version. Our iPads are having to use the mobile app version and we are very limited and are having to use it in Chrome which is still limited. After that you all will take over any productivity program out there...period! Cheers!.Version: 5.4.3

Crashes immediatelyWhich is an absolute bummer since I need to reference Quip docs for work dozens of times a day. Sometimes the doc doesn’t even load. Also, kind of wild that when looking at a document, the “back” behavior to navigate home takes you through the comments. It’s like the document is nested within its comments. The potential is there. Selfishly, I hope the next major effort for Quip developers is iOS stability..Version: 7.59.0

Could be much betterThere are so many areas that this app needs to improve. The differences between the desktop versions and this are too many to mention. It’s also missing many key features generally as an app. I still like it, however it has a long way to go..Version: 7.22.0

Nice product, really awful iOS appPer title.Version: 7.70.1

One of my favorite web tools. Least favorite app.I use this service every day at work - predominantly by accessing via web app. There, it’s a fantastic product. The mobile app is another story. When I first installed several months ago, I was met with consistent crashes and freezes but I could at least access work content. Now, I can’t even login as the “verify” button does not work/connect. I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling. There is no mobile web version..Version: 7.72.5

Most difficult Communication app I’ve ever usedSupposed to streamline communications. But using it is so awkward and against any user-friendly process that I cannot believe the positive stars it gets. You will not install and away-you-go start using it because it is very un-natural to use and takes all kinds of time to figure out how to get things done on it. Maybe it has great possibility usages, sure, and you just “have to figure that it out”. But trying to get this rolled out to even a small group of people is like teaching them all to use a toolbox out of photo shop..Version: 5.2.1

Cannot download multiple files at onceI don’t usually comment on apps, but this one got me pretty upset. There is no way to download more than one file at a time, the system is a web based interface, very crapy. The only two option to download any files is through export, which only gives you 2 options. Html and word! Who the hell use word and html for collaboration, have you hear of pdf?? What’s more, the folder structure is a total joke, my client uploads 10 pdfs to me, and I can only see them in the notification center. Not able to download them in pdf format unless you open the file and export. How is this called itself an organization tool or productivity tool is beyond me. Hey just use dropbox or google drive for file sharing, use google doc for word collaboration. Stay away from this app gonna save you so much time. Whoever designed this app is absolutely stupid..Version: 7.0.0

Can’t log in with googleCan’t log in to the quip app on my phone with my google account. I get an authorization error from google, saying “error 400: redirect_uri_mismatch, you can’t sign in to this app because it doesn’t comply with Google’s OAuth 2.0 policy.” There’s no other way to sign in, so I can’t use the app. Getting customer support is just about impossible - I went to the sales force help page, created a trailblazer account in order to create a case, but then was told that I had to log out and log in with the credentials of my org in order to create a case. So I’m asking for support on an app review instead..Version: 7.61.2

App instantly crashes after openingThe new update leads to the app instantly crashing making it unusable. Have tried restarting the phone and uninstalling..Version: 7.14.1

Constantly crashesI love the Quip mobile app when it works, as it allows me to access work-related documents on my phone. This is the reason for not giving it just one star. However, more often than not it is infuriating and essentially unusable because it crashes after a few seconds every time I open it. To be precise, the app suddenly backgrounds itself but appears to still be running..Version: 7.72.5

Total garbage. Glacially slow. Crashes constantly. Lacking core features. On the latest iPhone Pro Max, the app is terribly slow, crashes constantly, and doesn’t have feature parity. It’s unusable. Search is a dumpster fire inside of a train wreck. What a heap of unmaintained trash..Version: 7.72.5

Would be great if it didn't log me out frequentlyWould be great if it didn't log me out frequently.Version: 5.0.7

Doesn’t sync correctly and takes up too much storageIPhone app ends up taking up a lot of storage even if you don’t use much. And even when you use it, the docs don’t sync so well. It’s alright if you just want to view a document but don’t rely on it to work on mobile.Version: 7.72.5

Not at feature parity with desktop websiteNot all features in the desktop website are available in the app (e.g. “Add to other folders” instead of moving a document), but attempting to access the website on mobile redirects to the app! Also, the only online help available describes how to do things in the desktop website; there is no help for the app.Version: 5.5.1

Dumpster FireThis software is a total dumpster fire. It offers one of the worst, most unpleasant software user experiences I have ever had the misfortune of being put through. It’s nothing but text and hypertext. To say it’s GUI is minimal would be an understatement. I can’t image who in their right mind would choose to use this. I hated every single second of my experience with this platform, and wouldn’t ever choose to use it. I hope whoever made this makes it to heaven, but, if they don’t, I hope they have to use Quip to do mundane and monotonous tasks for eternity..Version: 8.11.1

Annoying app update user experienceUpdating app logs me out and requires 2-factor authentication to get back in. Very annoying! This wasn’t the case in earlier versions of the app and this level of security is overkill for my usage..Version: 7.72.5

The app crashesApp crashes within the first 30 seconds of opening. I don’t even click on anything. So frustrating! It recently started..Version: 7.72.5

Starting to failMajor issues with speed. Inability to maneuver app..Version: 7.41.0

Non standard menu is atrociousWhy do I have to scroll to the top to go to the menu?.Version: 5.5.4

TerribleLike having a spreadsheet online but not really optimum for teams.Version: 7.2.3

Keyboard and trackpad navigation unfriendlyEditing on this app is a huge pain, shortcuts that’s supported by iPad’s basic text editing is not working (perhaps blocked?) and trackpad support is tragic..Version: 7.45.0

CrashingUnreliable. Loading pages crashes it on ipad.Version: 7.1.0
