Whatever it was, I'm really upset at myself for not having purchased this earlier. Wonderful game! Loved playing this and every time I didn't reach the golden fleece I knew it was something I had done wrong, never felt cheated. Deepest I've made it is level 19, are there more treasures to find? ✓ Elegant and deep tactical battlesHoplite has never left my phone since it was released, it's a game I keep revisiting and discovering more about it. It looks like a simple arena battle in which you play the titular hoplite against ever-growing hordes of demons. The mechanics are straightforward - stab, lunge, leap, bash, and throw - but they are slowly layered on as you make upgrade choices and customise your abilities. My favourite is a combination of quick bash, shielding bash and agility, which lets me dance around demons, killing them with impunity, while they always seem to be two steps behind me. It's the closest any game has got to capturing the feeling of the over-the-top sequences from 300. Highly recommended!.Version: 2.4.1
✓ HopliteVery good "bite-sized" strategy game. The scale of the game is not huge, and that's part of it's appeal. The simpler graphics are also a part of it's appeal ( retro and more modern). When you do end up getting the fleece you feel you've accomplished a good battle run. ✓ Solid strategyThis is a pretty solid turn-based game. It will take you time to get good at it, which can be discouraging at first, but once you get the hang of it you'll start to like it better. It's not a perfect strategy game, but it does what it does pretty well. This feature kind of saves the game for me, to be honest, as the longer game can take a good chunk of your time to get through. About 20-30 mins. Hoplite on the surface seems very simple, but the more you play the more you realise it's complexity. There's lots of different ways of playing the game and you end up having to come up with the right tactic to complete the in game achievements. These unlock more weapons to your arsenal, but they are at times frustratingly hard, which as a competitive guy gives the game plenty of replay value as I try to complete all of them. ✓ A great dungeon strategy puzzlerWhile Hoplite has rouge-like elements (permadeath, randomly generated levels, unlocking new abilities) what makes it different for me is that all information is known (no fog of war) and an attack is attack, no random chance to miss. This makes things more puzzle-y and strategic, trying to "solve" each level and figuring out how to attack safely without boxing yourself into a corner.
