Recipe Keeper for Negative User Reviews

Too TediousToo much work. I would rather just have a photo log of my recipes. Great idea for those who want to take the time to fill everything in..Version: 3.38.0

Can’t use across devicesThis app is really handy and exactly what I was looking for but it does not work across devices. For example, I paid $20 CAD for the full version to be downloaded on my Mac. However, when I try to use the same app on my iPhone it won’t let me and I need to pay an additional $13 CAD for the full version to be on my phone. Both my Mac and my IPhone use the same Apple ID. Further to this, you cannot use the app in family share. My husband would need to download and pay for the app on his phone. This is not conducive to what the app is needed for and in turn we will end up spending $50 plus CAD in order for the app to do what we need it to do. That being said, there are certainly better options in the App Store that do the exact same thing..Version: 3.34.0

LimitationsThis app only allows you to store 20 recipes. Unlimited recipes require and upgrade..Version: 3.14.0

Agreed about the purchasing per platformHaving to purchase separately on both Mac and iPhone is seriously off-putting. There should be a one time purchase that includes the price for all platforms rather than having to purchase separately as this is misleading. I understand about the servers and everything but this is not cool. The app seems to be worth using and you would probably have more customers if this was a one time, all platforms purchase..Version: 3.17.0

Great app, but issues with registering account…I really enjoyed this app and purchased the full version, adding recipes from website is so quick and easy and you can organise all your recipes well. One small suggestion I would make is maybe update the design of the app though as it does look quite outdated. The reason for 3 stars is because since getting the app, I’ve not been able to sign in or even create a new account. To use some of the features such as Alexa which is what I hoped to be able to do, you need an account. After loading for a while it says “Registration failed. Please try again later”. Tried deleting the app and reinstalling but that doesn’t work and now I have to input all my recipes back into the app..Version: 3.30.1

Free version limited recipe storageSadly free version only allowed 20 recipes to be stored..Version: 3.39.1

Well made app with one huge flawOverall, the app is well designed and executed. The menus are straightforward, the URL retrieval is intuitive and quick, and the app is decently polished. The only problem I encountered is that you have to purchase a separate pro subscription for each operating system you use. For example: I had initially purchased the pro version on my MacBook, and was going to use the cloud sync function to access and upload recipes from my iPad and iPhone as well. Unfortunately, the macOS purchase only covers other macOS devices. Meaning I would have to buy a second membership for my phone, and likely a third for my iPad (since the two use different operating systems), and likely wouldn’t be able to sync content between the three. Unfortunately, that’s the dealbreaker for me. If they were to set it up so that you can use a single account to access the pro version across all devices (like many other apps), this would be the perfect digital recipe book app. Maybe someday in the future that might be possible. Until then, my search for an efficient and effective recipe organizer continues..Version: 3.30.1

RecipeTrès pratique pour regrouper les recettes et les partager avec mes enfants.Version: 3.36.4

Really impressed, but 2 flawsThis app is really impressive, just the sort of thing I was looking for. It’s intuitive to use and navigate. I’m also always super appreciative when developers offer software without subscriptions. The first minor thing is that it doesn’t automatically generate nutrition information based on ingredients—I had assumed that it would, but it doesn’t actually make that claim in the description—it’d be great if it could. The second and more frustrating thing is I thought that the syncing feature worked seamlessly through iCloud. Normally, I would test an app a bit more before committing to purchase, but I was so excited to try it out on my phone (had initially started adding recipes on my iPad) in the kitchen. So bought it only to discover that the syncing feature requires setting up a third-party account, which is something I steadfastly avoid wherever possible. The description does not make it clear that an external account is required for syncing, even with the Pro version. I probably would have ended up buying the app regardless, but all the same I really wish I had known this before I made the purchase. In the end, I had to create an export file on my iPad, airdrop it to my phone, and then import it there. Not difficult, but a little disappointing..Version: 3.33.0

I like the app but...I really like the app, so much I paid £5 for the upgraded version. However now going to use it on my other devices I can’t sync it unless I pay for the upgrade on each device! This I ridiculous! The whole point of apple and it’s apps is to seamlessly be able to move from one device to the next with it all working together but with this app it’s not the case. If it all worked together on the upgraded platform that I paid for I would be giving it 5 stars, and would be happy to amend the review if this ever was the case. However the app as it is, trying to get you to spend more and more money I’m afraid it’s 2 stars, and a waste of £5..Version: 3.15.1

Nice program, no supportTried to share , said verify first , god knows how lol , wrote to author , no response.Version: 3.34.0

Some cool features, some frustrating onesI've been trying out alternatives to Paprika, and Recipe Keeper falls short of that benchmark sadly. Its import system is fairly straightforward, and reads a lot of different formats. It doesn't have a pantry system, so if you add an ingredient you've already shopped for it adds it again. It's easy to browse through a recipe by swiping, and the options to change text size etc are nice. The overall interface is a bit difficult to understand, and the bottom buttons disappear when you drill into a page. This makes it easy to get lost in the various views. And each view has its own interface and buttons available, so you have to learn each one (and what all the symbols mean) individually. Sadly this is not for me!.Version: 3.28.3

Great Organizer! Crashes oftenI love this app, it makes keeping recipes easy and I love that I can upload recipes from websites so that they’re ad free!! The one major downside is that every time I add a new recipe from a URL, the app crashes, at least a few times, until it finally accepts the URL and adds it. It’s frustrating and I feel like something the developers would address as it’s a basic function for the app to work as it is intended and marketed as..Version: 3.36.4

Very expensive to sync across devices...I like the app and got hooked in when a suggestion popped up that I could sync my devices if I upgraded it to the premium version. What it doesn’t tell you at that time is that you have to separately buy the premium app on your other devices too - pretty sneaky really. Waste of money. Not worth paying for the upgrade several times over!!!!.Version: 3.18.0

Good app. Bad payment details. So I’ve paid for the app on my Mac and iOS. £10 in total. My iOS account is a family plan and I can not restore purchases on my wife’s iOS devices, just mine. Also the restore purchases button is hidden under settings about. Plus it’s not a button. It’s just an info link that provides no feedback at all. You can barely tell if you have clicked the link. All this so they hope you just buy it anyway. Really sour note on an otherwise very useful app. Shame. Avoid until the payment side of it is sorted. Worth noting that the app states it supports family sharing, but they do not as the only thing you pay for can not be shared..Version: 3.17.1

Good app but unclear pricingThe app itself is good for what I want it for. It could be improved in a few minor ways but is functional. The free version is limited but before making the investment from the information given I understood it would cost me £9.98 to access it both on iOS and Mac.i felt this was worthwhile. What was not clear was the £4.99 price was per device so have had to pay separately for both phone and iPad. This isn’t clear and so just come across as unfair, greedy and poor intent to provide good customer service. I assume if I had to replace a device I’d have to buy again. This makes it very bad value..Version: 3.17.1

Partage de recetteJ’ai payer le 17,99$ pour pouvoir me connecter au compte sur plusieurs appareils et quand j’arrive pour me connecter, cela me demande de payer encore !!.Version: 3.39.1

Miss leading languageI’m ok with paying a fee for apps. However this app advertises in a way to let you think that once you upgrade to pro, you can share across all your devices. That is simply not true. You need to pay extra if you want to use it on your windows platform. I’m ok with the cost, but the misleading language wasted a lot of my time which I believe is an opportunity for improvement. Hiding it won’t help you sell more, it will only cause inconvenience for your paying users. This app is just ok, and I am using it only because it can integrate with Alexa. I’ve used better apps for keeping recipe and meal planning, but they didn’t connect with Alexa..Version: 3.38.0

GoodA great recipe keeper and it’s nice that it’s not subscription based. Free version only allows you 20 recipes and I’m not willing to pay for the full version when there are other recipe apps that allow more storage for free..Version: 3.36.4

Misleading - Apple Family Sharing unsupportedBuyer beware! Understand that, despite the advertising in the App Store, Apple Family Sharing is not supported. Every separate Apple ID/account must pay to upgrade the app and THEN the apps and recipes can be synced. But it is not done via Apple Family Sharing. Additionally, the app is free for only the first 20 recipes. You have to pay for an upgrade to store more than 20. Explanation: The free app allows you to store 20 recipes. To store more than 20 (realistically, most people need more than 20), the “pro” version is required. The “pro” version is an upgrade categorized as an in-app purchase, which excludes it from being used in Family Sharing. You can pay once and download the app to several devices UNDER THE SAME APPLE ACCOUNT. But every separate Apple ID/account has to pay for the upgrade before the apps can be synced. So, basically, all family members using separate accounts will have to pay for the app. It’s very dishonest, and that is the sole reason this is a 1 star review. The app itself is great, but omitting details about the required upgrade for more than 20 recipes, and omitting details about the incompatibility with Apple Family Sharing is vastly disappointing and unacceptable. Users have to dig through reviews to learn these things, or find out the hard way when trying to add more than 20 recipes/sync apps with family members..Version: 3.28.0

Not user friendlyWould be a good app if it were easier to use.Version: 3.38.0

Nice idea, terrible executionThe interface is really ugly and not very user friendly. It took me hours to upload two recipes from my cookbook as the UI is not very intuitive. Also it’s not possible for my husband to see the recipes I upload on his phone - since we share the grocery shopping, that’s a big minus. I decided to try an app called Cookbook instead and found it MILES better. Uploaded 6 recipes from my cookbook in half an hour -online recipes just take a minute. Better interface, simpler user journey and with a subscription my husband can have my account on his phone as well. Would recommend that instead..Version: 3.32.0

DisappointedI’ve been using another well-known (free!) website/app for my recipes, but they have recently gone to a subscription model which I thought was too much for what it is. I then found Recipe Keeper and thought: this is more or less what I’m after. At £5.99 I felt it was still pricey, but one of the better apps out there so I upgraded to the Pro version. Now that I’ve bought the app on my Mac I wanted to sync to my iPhone (as advertised) just to realise that is not possible as I have to pay again! I then read the reviews and realised that even if I did pay, I cannot really use Family Sharing as advertised either as my husband also has to purchase the app since we have (obviously) two different iTunes accounts. The whole point of using Apple products is the fact that it should all be seamless. To now tell me I can sync it between my iPads and iPhones is pointless as I only have one mobile device. Why is it that one cannot just use a single sign on account across all devices as you can do with most other apps and websites?.Version: 3.24.2

Good app but...It does crash every now and again but I rated it lower than I would have because I wanted to add my recipes to the app then maintain a shared recipe book with my wife. She wrote an email to the developer who, to their credit, responded very promptly on a Saturday morning in the form of mr Richard Bygrave to say that Apple was at fault. This App Store listing states very clearly that the app “supports Family Sharing”. It does not say that Family Sharing supports the app. Mr Bygrave did not suggest that Tudorspan was pursuing Apple to correct the incorrect claim nor that the developer would be changing the way in which one could purchase the app. I do not intend to bandy words on the matter. I wanted an app through which I can share recipes with my family without the inconvenience of handing over one of my own devices and I do not have one. I cannot have one unless I purchase the app for every family member. Very clever..Version: 3.25.1

Free version is limitedI love this app but the free version is limited to only 20 recipes. Which is fine but not advertised upfront..Version: 3.38.1

WarningBe very careful with this app. In a matter of seconds I went from trying out the app to accidentally paying $20.33 for the “pro” version. I didn’t even register for an account and they got me. Very disappointed. I want my money back..Version: 3.37.0

Beware of the upgrade costsThe basic app is very good, so much so I decided to upgrade to Pro so I could share between my iPhone and MacBook. When I downloaded the app onto my MacBook I was told I would have to purchase the Pro version over again if I wanted to sync between the two devices. The developer explained it was all to do with costs across different platforms. Not the best marketing strategy and the communication about upgrade costs is very poor (something admitted by the developer). I asked for a refund only to be told I would have to go through the App Store - good luck with that.....Version: 3.18.0

GoodI love this app I use it a lot, however I have an iPhone7 & iPad Air and I could not for the life of me ever get it to sync between the two. I upgraded and signed in on my iPad Air but it never synched with my iPhone so I ended putting everything in manually twice! It was impossible to sign into my account with my iPhone as it just asked you to upgrade again?! I did contact there support team who where very helpful but it still didn't work. I only have one iTunes account so I know that wasn't the problem. I ended up getting a refund. ( I now just put my recipes in OneNote which syncs across all my devices.).Version: 3.21.1
