MusicStreamer for Negative User Reviews

Deliberately obtuse marketingSo I was trying to find a more streamlined way of playing my iTunes music library, and the reviews here (and elsewhere) suggested that this was the way to go. The marketing blurb says Mac, PC ... will all work with this app. WRONG! Actually it is right, but only insofar as it relates to your music library that you did NOT buy from the iTunes music store. Anything, and I really do mean anything that you buy from iTunes will not play on this app. The developers will blame Apple and will point to their warning that DRM protected content will not play, and they are right. The problem is that unless you are technically fully aware of what DRM protected content means, and to what such protection is applied, you will make the same mistake. It may be a good player. It may have a cool look and feel, but since it will not play my iTunes library, I would not know, and I paid for this app thinking it would offer me a better user experience. £4 wasted..Version: 5.4

Copes well with large libraries but a few nigglesMy music library is big. Currently 16,000 albums. On the PC I use iTunes to find tracks easily, as it navigates quickly and the search box is quick and responsive. I wanted something I could use in the same way on my iPad and this app seemed to fit the bill. It was simple enough to set up. It scanned my network and found my NAS straight away. It then asked for user name and password, and then it asked to be pointed at the music library directory. After that it started scanning and in about an hour had folders showing for each album. The search works quite well, and it's easy to queue tracks up to play. The niggles? OK here goes... 1. The Expanded view when you click on an album lists the file size of each track. It would be much more useful to show the duration instead. 2. Despite all tracks having embedded ID3 artwork, none of it shows up either when browsing folders nor when playing tracks. 3. On the plus side it recognises multi-disc sets correctly, listing the disc contents in order from the DISC NUMBER tag, unlike some players that list all the track 1s then the track 2s and so on. 4. However it doesn't seem to recognise the COMPILATION tag, which flags various artist albums correctly. So all my compilations are listed by album name, scattered among the collection alphabetically. In all well worth a fiver and I'd hope to see points 1 and 2 above addressed in a future release. Fingers crossed..Version: 6.8

UselessI have been trying to use this app for a long time. Each time I manage to connect to my music server, it loses everything when I shut down, and can't connect to the server next time I try. Very frustrating..Version: 3.0

Works ok, butI have all my music organized on the computer. Would be great to be able to access by folder, no?.Version: 5.0

Love it but support audiobooksFirst time a solution can deal with audio files like books and help organise them but add bookmarking to reflect you might listen to a range of material to different points and need to come back to where you where. Give is a listening list that keeps track of the difference listening playlists or books so we can continue where I last left off..Version: 7.6

Yes it’s a good app BUT...I was very disappointed to discover that all the offline tracks I carefully downloaded and stored were deleted as soon as I wanted to scan another source file to add to them. I couldn’t see any way to retain them. There’s no user access to the actual offline files. It would also be helpful to know the file sizes and file types eg mp3 or flac for various tracks and albums. The app documentation is scant to say the least. The app works nicely for streaming via Airplay or Chromecast from a live network, but the absence of robust offline file saving makes it much less useful. Hence only 2 stars I’m afraid..Version: 5.0

Music Streamer is no longer stable and reliable product.Don’t buy it! Use the File Browser application instead. The music streaming product used to be so much more reliable, but recent updates has made it unstable. I find I’m using the File Browser product instead, as it seems to be more reliable. The Streamer just stops and looses its connection to the server and I have to keep reopening it, and the server reconnects automatically, but I have to keep hitting the play button. I have found the same companies File browser products and I have found that I can connect to my server and listen for hours and hours without an issue. I’m disappointed in the current Music Streamer Product and can no longer recommend it to others. The File Browser has less bells and whistles, but is much more stable and reliable. Same company, go figure!.Version: 6.5

Simultaneous serversCan’t read playlists in the servers, can’t combine servers into one database. Most of my folders are lumped together as a single album even though a folder may actually contain several hundred albums.Version: 5.4

Looks good, needs tweaksThe app itself looks nice. I like the way the cover art looks and the other basic features. I like that it has the ability to connect to your NAS. After I connected to the NAS it immediately started listing the music files and cover art. A couple big problems though. 1) It organizes albums by disc folder instead of the album name tag. And then it sorts by disc folder name. That means it lists artists a-z disc1 folders and then artists a-z disc2 folders etc.. So multiple disc sets are not in order. Not sure why it ignores the album tags. 2) Not sure why it doesn’t use a dlna feature to connect to the server which would do all the album organizing for you. 3) Granted I have a collection of 2300+ albums but after it separated each disc folder into separate “albums” it shows that I now have 3033 “albums”. Lastly, I have over 53k music files and even without looking at album tags it still took hours to index the files. Foobar mobile is very simple app but it uses dlna and organizes the albums by album tag and not by each separate disc. If they could fix these issues it would be my new goto app..Version: 7.5

So closeI love it, I just SOoo wish albums could be arranged by the Tag name of the album, rather than by the folder name. It’s going to be more work than I have time to do to rename every folder in my collection, so I won’t be buying the app. Surely it’s a small fix? Please please make it guys!.Version: 5.0

ConfusedNone of the other apps scan large collections well but this seems to handle it easily. On the downside however it didn't seem to read the file metadata and therefore treated every album and song as an artist. Then Search couldn't find the artist to display all their albums. End result not useable until metadata handling is fixed..Version: 2.8

Can’t Stream From Cloud Services.Hard to believe a music streaming app in ‘17 doesn’t stream from DropBox, Box, Google Drive, etc. Maybe I should’ve read the product description more carefully but so many music streaming apps offer this service that I took o for granted. Would like my money back..Version: 5.0

Good but could be betterEasy to set up, easy to use and has some nice neat features. Could be a 5star app if there was support for .wma files and file tags. When sorting files it seems to be referencing just the file properties which can cause problems with .wav files..Version: 5.2

No badGood attempt , but limited in flexibility..Version: 4.1

Wish this would randomly shuffleLove the player, works great with my NAS, but wish it would shuffle the songs, not just one song after another from the same artist..Version: 5.6

Better but not awesomeWorks better for music than the native MyCloud app but still not great because the UI/UX is pretty confusing For example, to play a song you have to tap the options button on it, and then play. Instead of just tapping it which would be most intuitive. Also this does not work outside of your NAS network.Version: 5.0

Needs workIn offline mode. First, you can’t track backwards to the previous track. Interface needs tweaking, because you can’t find some basic tools like deleting a track. And this is the worst offender, RANDOM really isn’t RANDOM! I have about 1,000 songs and I CONSTANTLY hear the same tracks, sometimes writhin minutes of each other..Version: 7.9

MusicStreamer ReviewOne positive thing is finally a player that allows a playlist. Now for what is missing from this app. Although the same app developer here is the same for FileBrowser you cannot play songs that are stored on your phone. Such a mystery why this option is not there. This app does not offer a cross fade option so that you can blend from one song to the next to eliminate the silent gap between songs. Overall yes it does play your music from a network source but it is missing a very basic option to play songs you spent a lot of time downloading to your phone..Version: 6.2

No hi res outputI read reviews of this app and it sounded great. However using iPad CCK to my Dragonfly DAC gives CD quality output only. It is obvious as the Dragonfly colour stays green. I have just wasted my money as many other free apps give you this as default and I wanted a quality app for high resolution playback. Don’t waste money on this - the free foobar app allows downloads, gapless playback and outputs CD quality!.Version: 4.2

Too many bugsThis app is not ready for prime time. It just has too many bugs. For example, I was excited about the ability to play FLAC files, particularly when my iPad Air is connected to a DAC. However, my excitement quickly disappeared about five minutes after starting to use the app, when I discovered that 24-96 FLAC files start stuttering as soon as the iPad screen dims and 24-96 FLAC files stop playing entirely when the screen dims. I would say this renders the app useless for those interested in playing FLAC files. This happens whether the iPad is connected to a DAC or whether internal speakers are used..Version: 1.0

Had trouble getting it to workI bought this app because the description said it played to Chromecast Audio. I couldn’t get it to work for quite a while — my Chromecast device finally showed up when I went to playlists. Not sure what happened there... The app doesn’t leverage the iTunes library. Rather, it scans a particular PC path for music files and allows you to stream them. I have had problems that, when I try to play a playlist, the app mysteriously stops between songs. That’s a bit irritating. So, overall, while it does what’s advertised, it seems a bit clunky. I wish iTunes allowed you to play to Chromecast, but this is an acceptable workaround..Version: 5.0

Horrible controlsWhy can't I just tap a track to play it like iTunes / Spotify / everything else? Adding everything to a playlist is so confusing and hard to explain to guests..Version: 5.1

Almost Great...Love this app, except opus files do not play properly! The issue is when playing opus files the songs play much slower. I want to download my songs to my phone but all other formats take too much space. Opus is my only reasonable option but when I do this my favorite songs won’t play correctly!.Version: 5.0

Not greatI don’t like the interface but the most annoying problem was that if DRM was detected in a playlist it wouldn’t play the next track. I don’t understand why DRM is an issue. I download my iTunes tracks to a NAS. The app seems to stream ok other than DRM protected tracks. The odd thing is that one or two tracks in whole album are identified has having DRM not the whole album. In practice this means I start listening to an album and it will abruptly stop. I’ve tried various albums and this issue happens on many of them..Version: 5.6
