Trailforks for Negative User Reviews

Used to be great, now ruined. Deleted. This used to be my go to app for biking, it’s now been completely ruined as they are trying to make us pay for content we have created, which is pretty incredible. Find another app, this one is dead..Version: 1.54

Greed killed this appFirstly, I’ve bought pro only to find it still wants to charge me so have spent 25 quid for free features, nice one! Secondly, the features are becoming less and less on the free version and I expect that to increase now Outside owns the company…..Version: 1.58

PaywallWas a great app but is now worthless as they put a paywall up and now I can’t use anything at all on the app..Version: 1.56.1

How the Mighty Have FallenI’ve never submitted a review before, but given that I just voted in the 2020 election, I figured I might as well vote here too! Trailforks used to be my go-to app for finding mountain bike trails and navigating while riding. The app boasts many helpful features such as trail photos, trail status, and the ability to link with mapping apps to give directions to the trailheads. Trailforks sometimes even shows trails that don’t appear on other apps, such as Mountain Bike Project. And the fact that the beta is crowdsourced and constantly being updated is a plus. Additionally the ability to switch trail categories, such as hiking or backcountry skiing, is a really helpful feature too. However, now the beta, which used to be free to all and was submitted for free by the public, remember, is now locked behind a pay wall for everywhere except for a little square area that you designate on the map. The beta for rest of the world is now unavailable unless you upgrade to pro. Because of this change, I won’t be using Trailforks anymore..Version: 1.47

No apple watch appPlease make an app for apple watch as well like the alltrails.Version: 1.64.0

Unreliable AFCrashes. Won’t even open anymore. The desk top version is the only useful thing now. SAD!.Version: 1.64.0

Crowdsource the work, concentrate the profitsI think it’s pretty slimy for trailforks to decide that I had to pay to access user-contributed trail information, especially given that I was the one who contributed so many of the trails in my area. I’m not doing it… MTB Project works just fine and it’s still free..Version: 1.59.1

Useless unless you pay the gouging price$36 per year LOL. It’s pretty much useless if you don’t pay. Stay clear of this one now..Version: 1.64.2

Update ruined the appAfter being a very helpful app for finding trails near me, now even the name of any trail is locked by a paywall! Very disappointing..Version: 1.49

Well then...Been using this app for a few months now. Was awesome. Went to use it today and now you need to pay or it’s completely useless. Thanks for ruining a good thing..Version: 1.43

SubscriptionOnce you sign up you can’t seem to cancel the payments. I’ve tried everything I can but unless someone knows how to cancel the subscription for good that would be of great help..Version: 1.61.6

Good MTB map appGood mapping app for planning rides. Ok at recording rides and strava compatibility works well. I no longer use this for recording rides though, as there is no Apple Watch compatibility, no auto pause, no heart rate recording. Which to me means strava wins hands down. Trailforks is a good app to have in your back pocket in case you get lost on a ride..Version: 1.40

Needs some usability improvements!Great concept, nothing else like it and I’m happy to pay… but please improve the UI!.Version: 1.64.3

Massive shame about the paywallTrailforks used to be my go-to app for whenever I’d be riding or trying to discover new trails, but now 95% of the time I’m trying to look for a trail somewhere it’s hidden behind a paywall. It’s shame that this app which was once so good is now nothing more than a meagre financial asset to Outside. If it’s money they need to keep it running a donation system would’ve made much more sense…..Version: 1.62

Good but could be betterI would use this app a lot more if it had an Apple Watch version for tracking rides. I know my local trails so I don’t have much need to open the app unless I am going somewhere new..Version: 1.64.0

The Money CrisisThis was good. Brilliant even. Now suddenly in times when everything costs 2x more they decide to hid the trails behind some blend / pay wall to be unlocked… Shame. People don’t have money now and you know that….Version: 1.63.6

What happened?Paywalled? I understand you guys need to make money, but the only reason the app is any good is because of the daily submissions and updates from the riders. Would rather have an ad pop up each time i open the app then have to pay to see riding locations..Version: 1.58

Subscriptions…Just like everything now a days something good was ruined by subscriptions. This app used to allow you to download one region and get detailed mapping of trails which was helpful when I was learning new trails in my area and lost. I use this app somewhat infrequently but it was super handy when I needed it in a pinch. Now when I’m lost on new trails, they made it nearly impossible to zoom in and get any detail of where I took a wrong turn, especially when it’s bright out and I can barely see my screen. Gray trail on a gray background done on purpose so I’m forced to pay for pro. Good thing strava just added trail mapping...Version: 1.59.1

Customer Service and Paid AppReached out to customer service to help with the “free locked area” as I’ve moved, app becomes all but useless if you’re not in the “free area” and as almost everyone of these reviews have stated a monthly membership service for a mapping app is ridiculous. Operations sent an email back that was short and rude. Deleting the app and moving on with my life, carry a paper map or get a different app and save yourself the trouble.Version: 1.59.1

Mostly a useless appThis would be a great app if it worked when you need it. Unfortunately they update it far too often meaning that when your off the grid and need it, you’ll try to open it only to find it requires an update and won’t open. I try to update this thing extra because of this but over the last six months, the majority of the time I try and use it it’s a no go. Twice in the last two weeks it’s been less than worthless in this way. And that’s when I’ve updated it within days of trying to use it. Goes like this: “is this the trail junction I’m looking for? Let’s check Trailforks. Oh, it won’t open without an update and I’m in the middle of nowhere.” May as well delete the stupid thing. What changes in the national trail networks are so urgently in need up updates that it renders the app useless when you need it? Are all the trails being rerouted weekly or something. May as well just delete the thing..Version: 1.45

Works fine but there’s a major flawTrailforks needs Apple Watch integration! I have to use another trail app to record rides due to this. They charge enough that this integration should be a given..Version: 1.62

Didn’t give me pro after I paid for itI decided to pay for pro thinking that it was monthly and I got charged the annual fee and it didn’t give me what I paid for. Please fix this issue..Version: 1.63.2

They sold outYou have to pay monthly now to use it.Version: 1.49

Won’t run on iPadWon’t run on iPad 8th generation.Version: 1.59

I can’t update my email^^ and thus I can’t log in to the web version. Because if this I am not getting the security emailed link for login. Useless app..Version: 1.64.3

Free app is now unusableIt had been such a good app and top of my list. Now completely unusable unless we pay. There is nothing to suggest that they won’t betray our trust again and hence will sadly delete..Version: 1.45

Can’t even subscribeI’m trying and trying and trying, and nothing. I like this app but now when subscriptions were introduced i still like this app and I’m trying to subscribe to it but even SUBSCRIBE option not working. Guys please fix this app so we can use it. So many bugs.Version: 1.54

Apple Watch developmentIt’s 20 odd pounds a year, I want it on my Apple Watch, crazy it’s not been handled yet..Version: 1.63.5

Tells me I don’t have pro versionI bought pro version but for some reason every time I use app it says “unlock more with pro.” I bought the pro, but it didn’t recognize that I did and I have to go through a bunch of trouble just to use the app every time I want to. So irritated, so I just want to cancel the app… but am having a hard time doing that too.Version: 1.59.1

Needs Apple Watch appThe app is fine except it lacks massively in that it needs an Apple Watch companion. I’m not pulling my phone out on the trail but my watch is on my wrist easily accessible. Considering this app is a yearly subscription, it needs an Apple Watch app.Version: 1.63.1

Highway robberyI understand the need to pay for databases, updates and such but a monthly sub for content provided by your user base? Shame on these developers. Bunch of buffoons..Version: 1.59.1

Does not workSigned up for pro and the app does not work at all after spending $30. Went for a ride yesterday and the app would not even show the maps and kept asking me to sign up for pro again. There is no customer service or anyway to ask for help. Not sure what to do?.Version: 1.63.6

RuinedI don’t understand how you can make an app that people contribute to with trails and then decide to charge everyone for if. Awful.Version: 1.57.2

Doesn’t work even when I try to payTrailForks was a great app, I’d happily contribute but now even as a subscriber it won’t show me maps!.Version: 1.50

Update ruined the appThe app was awesome but now with the update it is terrible. Costs to see anything useful..Version: 1.49

Paywall killed it for meRecently they switched to a subscription model which has severely damaged the user experience. Using even just the map screen doesnt work anymore properly without a massive “get pro” across the middle. Its a shame as I have contributed to many of the trailforks services and now cant access them. I dont mind subscribing as people need to earn money to live, but PinkBike please re-look at how you have implemented it..Version: 1.45

PointlessNever understood why they made the app paid since it’s just basically run and built by the mountain bikers that go out their way to put the trails on the map now that you have to pay there will be less people marking up trails and less people using the app.Version: 1.50

What have you done? This used to be a cool app. I’ve even corrected/contributed to trails at my local site, but stupidly I updated my app recently and it’s now almost useless. Any attempt to zoom in is met with a screen block plus a demand to upgrade to Pro. I’ll delete and go back to Strava... at least their basic version allows you check your own work. It’s like being a member of a community pub project from the outset and then being handed a ban once you got it all up and running.🤷🏼‍♂️.Version: 1.55

Poor subscription structureI’m sick of these apps wanting to charge an ongoing subscription for us to use their services. I’m not going to leave a subscription running for the few times a year that I need to use the app outside of the free zone. And I’m unlikely to bother subscribing and cancelling every time I want to use it also. Can’t you just charge a one off fee for use of the maps? I don’t want any other feature than to just view trails..Version: 1.50

Now we pay for the work WE didThis is my first review of an app, because I’m so frustrated with trail forks. I have used the free version, crowd sourced and built by many of us riders who go out, login Trails, update and change things as the trails change, and have used this app as well as recommending it to many other riders for years. Now suddenly we are locked out of the same trail systems we helped build and update in the app for a monthly fee! It’s one thing to charge a one time fee, but to charge a monthly rate, Considering so much of the initial work was done through crowdsourcing, it’s just another reason why I will refuse to use this app ever again. I will also cease from recommending this to friends and other riders. I switched from MTB Project to trail forks, now I’m switching back. Good way to ruin a good thing trail forks. 👎🏼.Version: 1.50

Subscription requiredUnable to use app now as you need a subscription to use full app.Version: 1.56.1

What? A huge let downFor years I am defending trail forks against mountain bike project and other apps. Recently it has let me down several times at crucial times. I was lost on the trails recently and I pulled it up, And it said my app was not updated and needed to be updated. Obviously this is a problem when you are in the middle of the woods.,I managed to get the app uploaded but then I didn’t have the area I was in downloaded and I was it unable to do that. Then I thought I got everything taken care of and the next time I needed it and it said there has been an error updating your app please close and reopen, which did nothing, or delete the app and download it again obviously not a help.I have used and have been very happy with this app for several years. I am now finished with it and I recommend you be careful of it as well..Version: 1.53

Useless navigation appWhat a massive POS! Seriously, one of the most useless apps I’ve ever used. Type in Ontario, Canada and a map of the west coast pops up..Version: 1.62.2

Paid For Pro, Lost All TrailsWas using the free version and was very happy. Since upgrading and paying for Pro, All my local trails have disappeared from the map. Only shows 20% of trails it used to..Version: 1.62

Apple Watch support needed!Overall the app is great, but pulling smartphone out of your pocket or backpack over and over again exploring new trains is kind of a pain. Would be amazing if Apple Watch was supported..Version: 1.62

Try MTB project, All Trails and othersSee you later 🤭.Version: 1.59.1

BugsEvery email I use to try to register an account is already used. How is this possible when they are my email accounts and I definitely haven’t registered any on Trailforks previously. But that being said, the trails and descriptions on the app fairly accurate. Used it to find some trails I didn’t realise existed.Version: 1.57.1

Previously a must-have app...And then the developer decided to charge a subscription fee for a crowd-sourced database of trails. I believe that a one-time $2.99 app purchase is more reasonable, but time will tell if others feel the same..Version: 1.53

Never worksLoved this app before, but for the past few years, no matter my phone or version of the app, the map never loads. It’s just a blank screen..Version: 1.61.2

Difficult to link Outside+ subscriptionsWarning: do not subscribe in-app! After you do, it is nearly impossible to link the Outside+ premium account to other apps like Gaia without having to submit a tedious support request. I’m currently going through the process now and will update after depending on how much of my trailforks/Gaia data that I loose..Version: 1.64.2

Logging on painJust tried to log back on and ended up resetting it 3 times then tried to use another email address. Finished off deleting it.Version: 1.50

Apple Watch?Where’s the Apple Watch support? I want to be able to leave my phone in the car when I MTB..Version: 1.61.5

Won’t open after download / delete & downloadThis app after downloading displays an error when trying to open. After following instructions to delete & re download, the error continues. Poor debugging / developer testing..Version: 1.59

Waste of time in EmergencyI was out riding a dirt bike today. No experience using this app Come across a lady who is looking for her son in need of emergency services. I have a phone with Trailforks and she knows the trail name… perfect. The app was able to find the trail, I think… but the screen is sooo dark it’s impossible to see in the day light where I am supposed to go. A kid suffered in the forest today. A bone protruding from his ankle because you want me to upgrade to PRO, so my screen isn’t dark? Gaia is free, great, and was able to point me in the right direction Shame on your greed. If there’s a brighter screen version for next emergency let me know Thanks.Version: 1.64.3

Used to be goodThis was a great app but now every time you try and use it the app locks up and tries to force you to upgrade to the “pro” version.Version: 1.45

TerribleCompletely useless unless you pay. Just get people to buy it outright if that’s the case.Version: 1.63.2

Ruined by Trailforks ProTrailforks has been ruined by Trailforks Pro. It was a great free App. Now you are forced to pay for Trailforks pro which is the same as Trailforks but with a Subscription service. I understand they need to make some money but a subscription service means they get your money every month when you only use the App occasionally..Version: 1.49

Used to be goodI’m not against paying something but an ongoing subscription to access all of Australia is ridiculous and shows poor business planning. If you could pay a once off for a section of the map that would be awesome..Version: 1.53

Use to love app but now…..I use this to route trails. Need second iPhone logged in as well. Can’t do that now. Tried to follow their instructions. No go. Probably change apps if I can’t fix this..Version: 1.59.1

No thanksA user updated app that’s behind a paywall?.Version: 1.61.6

Was great but...Have loved this app for the past year. It was probably inevitable that they’d put a paywall up and the price is great value but... only if the app works, right?! Since paying for pro a month ago via my Apple ID, the app doesn’t recognize my subscription and I haven’t been able to use it..Version: 1.49

Since the latest update…The app doesn‘t record full rides anymore, I also can‘t pause and resume without losing the first part of my ride. Very annoying! Now I don‘t know if I‘m improving or not..Version: 1.59.1

No Apple Watch:(.Version: 1.61.5

Community driven app; turned into paywallUnfortunately I felt the app was still a long way off being something that needed paying for. It still required a much larger community to be using it in the U.K. before the maps were updated regularly and pictures/trail conditions to also be updated..Version: 1.47

PRLWas a handy wee app ruined. I opened when visiting family in Scotland which set my local in Edinburgh so I can no longer access the map for the London area wher I actually live. My bad so upgraded to pro but it still won’t let me see local trails (yes, I have tried to ‘restore pro subscription’ in settings as instructed. It doesn’t work). If I have to pay, at least make sure the bloody thing works and I can access what I’ve paid for..Version: 1.50

LaggyThe latest update is super laggy… meaning it takes four or five taps before it will respond to panning, zooming, scrolling, selecting trails. It’s also super expensive..Version: 1.64.2

Good, but not goodTrail forks is a great app for looking at any sort of trail, however, you can now only see within not too far of your surroundings. I’m on a holiday at Bright, but you need pro to see trails in this area. Even though on a computer you can see anywhere.Version: 1.57.2

Needs workCant upload a photo for avatar. Website tech seems like it's 20 years old. Unable to crop an image on mobile device the resize handles don't respond the entire web page moves! Definitely not worth spending any money on this as it feels like a beta app from at least a decade ago!.Version: 1.60.1

You need to pay to use the zoom.Cant even zoom without upgrading to pro. Garbage. Without zooming you cant tell if its worth upgrading..Version: 1.59.1

Why the subscriptionThis app was great for not getting lost in the middle of a forest, because you could look at the tracks and find your way out. But now you have to pay a subscription to even look at the tracks? Why.Version: 1.50

RegionI see potential in this app, but when ever I try to select the area that I live it, it sets me in British Columbia, which is not my area. And when I do go to my area the Go Pro button pops up. What am I doing wrong?.Version: 1.61.2

No Family SharingLame, family members have to purchase their own membership. Waste of money, if I have to buy 3 more subscription there is no way we are using this. There is a misleading page on their website that says you can share it with your family, but you CAN NOT - they allow you to log in to multiple devices, but they have to be on YOUR login, so this doesn’t actually work for users in your family network with their own devices/logins..Version: 1.59.1

Possibly the worst app I’ve ever downloadedSo updated to pro, happy to pay. CANNOT log in because it keeps telling me that the email I’m using has an Outside account. I don’t even know what an Outside account means. Tried using various emails to create a new account and keep getting the same message even though I’m using an email address I’ve literally just set up! The “help” messages are pointless, they just keep telling me to do the same thing which results in the same outcome i.e still not able to log in. Of course the full payment is upfront so even if I cancel my subscription I still loose my money. Not impressed.Version: 1.57.0

Ruined the app by making people payWas going great until they started charging people to look at maps. Imagine paying for phone data and then having to pay again to view squiggly lines on a map. Ridiculous.Version: 1.47

DumbDumb how there’s a limited area now, get rid and this app would be 5 stars.Version: 1.56.1

Barely functionalGood luck doing anything besides recording a ride. The app is way overloaded with functions that do not work. You will spend hours on the simplest tasks to no avail, like cropping your avatar as it only displays the top left 16th of whatever photo you choose regardless of size, while the crop box stays frozen in time. Uploading trail photos is a nightmare as the app randomizes the photo information despite your input, and correcting it is nearly impossible. Forgetting to stop a ‘public’ recording will leave a track directly to your house, and when you crop that part out for privacy, it will reappear the next time you open the app, so you must delete the entire recording. Regardless of your chosen region, when you click discover, the app will display trails that are thousands of miles away, and you cannot even narrow it down to your state. I could go on and on as I have spent countless hours over the past few years trying to get the hang this super janky software. My IQ is not low. Sorry trailforks, I don’t think people are looking for a brain aneurism in exchange for a mountain biking app. I have contributed a lot to trailforks btw, and it’s been a painstakingly slow or unsuccessful process. Our time is too valuable to be wasted on this dysfunctional software. Trim the fat, and simplify the process trailforks, it’s that bad. I am guessing the people claiming trailforks as a must have are not contributors or trail builders..Version: 1.61.2

ThievesWas great, until they put all the trail data and mapping that all their users were uploading (freely) behind a paywall... users were uploading for the purpose of helping others get out and ride and Trailforks gave them a big middle finger and locked it away. What a joke!.Version: 1.53

Increasingly not worth it.Used to like it and when they started charging I was okay. Now the prices are going up and I am going back to guide books. Plus old maps are clogging my memory and even when deleted, won’t stat deleted. Wasn’t bad but they got greedy..Version: 1.61.6

Free app just became paid to regain all the free stuffSuch a shame. Trailforks has been my go to and now they’ve suddenly introduced a paywall to access all the stuff people have been using for ages, and called it “Pro”. I’ve contributed to trails, kept logs and more and suddenly I’m bricked out. You could have left it free for existing users, at least..Version: 1.43

Ruined! The idea of Trailforks was to show fellow riders and new riders trails that had been built for others to ride for FREE. So why now do you have to pay for the app, it’s killing the sport, not owned by bikers anymore..Version: 1.54

Another SubscriptionGreat another app with a subscription model. Add this too the hundreds of other money grubbing apps. This one is more obnoxious though in that it takes your user generated content and places it behind a paywall which it then sells to other mugs, Er, subscribers. There are plenty of other apps that charge for extended features as opposed to basic functionality so I’d go for those..Version: 1.50

Deleted. Was a great app but it no longer works without paying a monthly subscription. I’ve now deleted, such a shame..Version: 1.50

Great app, but…It’s a great app don’t get me wrong and especially with all the trails it has in which other apps don’t have, but without the subscription it limits a lot and I mean a lot of trails except for the trails really close to you..Version: 1.61.0

Great concept but...Support is useless, I’ve linked my strava account to Trailforks, my routes you can view on a pc but the app hasn’t updated them for over 2 weeks! Support told me after numerous emails that it will sort itself out!! Joke.Version: 1.31

HopelessGreat app until pro version came out and then pay a subscription or have the map greyed out! I can’t find option for free non-greyed out trails so looks like I’ll be deleting the app..Version: 1.50

It was once a brilliant app now it is not worth getting unless you have money to burnThis used to be a brilliant app with all the trails free but now you get a tiny square showing the trails and the rest are stuck behind a pay wall making it useless if you travel to different trails further away I would not download it now it is just a waste of storage just get Strava if you want to record rides.Version: 1.57.2

Disappointing “improvements”For years this app was a free app, and I loved it. It did exactly what I needed. It helped me when I was turned aroun on a mountain, and it offered insight into trail regions that I was unfamiliar with. I would continue to use the app, but the trailforks creators/ owners have decided that it was necessary to impose a monthly subscription fee for open use of the features, that fee being $3/ mont. Although the fee seems insignificant enough, it is also irksome enough to discourage me from using it any longer. I could understand a one time fee for the services, but to me a monthly subscription that ads up to $36 a year for an app is a little excessive. I understand there has been a lot of work preformed on the app, but most of that new work has little to do with a core group of mountain bike based users. Perhaps you could consider allowing advertisers to buy space on the app to pay for the expense of a bunch of unnecessary features, or you could just get rid of them all together & turn the app back to just a biking app again..Version: 1.48

Was a great app until updateUsed to use this app all the time when i went to new riding spots and if i got lost now its completely useless as i can only look at my local trails which i know like the back of my hand..Version: 1.55

Amazing app for off road anything but…Great app shows trails of all types of sports however I really wish they would develop an Apple Watch version.Version: 1.61.6

No longer usefulWith all the free user data this app is based on, Now there is no longer any free usage outside a “home zone”. Not worth the $36 for three times a year I find myself hiking..Version: 1.59.1

Woke Hypocrisy at it’s FinestMy favorite thing ever about Outside Mag and everything they own is showcased with this app. Let’s preach up and down our platforms about how outdoor sports need to be made more accessible to everyone and more affordable to the less fortunate and let’s make everyone who enjoys outdoor sports feel guilty for not being a minority BUT!!!!!…..oh you need to pay us a subscription to read about it and also pay us a subscription to find where you are on a map in the woods. Absolute clowns, these people..Version: 1.61.5

Have to pay now??Have just opened the app and says I have to pay if I want to unlock the whole map. Not just one free area. Other friends phones don’t have to pay for theirs.Version: 1.49

Grinding haltReally liked the app when it surfaced years back and I’m totally supportive of paying for development with subscription etc, but just spent far too long trying to navigate the app to get a feel for any potential value added by subscribing, then reverted to the reviews to convince myself, but didn’t look promising at all so I’ll just be planning on paper from here on and use my trusty pocket earth app to track my off track shenanigans and to navigate me back to civilisation when things get unfamiliar..Version: 1.64.3

Update didn’t fix the issueI was instructed to update the app to hopefully fix my issue of the app just shows the trail forks loading page. I am not sure what to do. It did not work and I can’t find a contact detail for support. If that could be provided in a developed response. I tried to contact you via the “contact developer button” in the App Store but it did not work. Please try to figure out this issue!!.Version: 1.36

Pretty bad for THE mtb trail appUI is outdated and buggy. The app is missing some features from the website like routes creation (not that the website is any better). Just look at what AllTrails is doing with its snappy and reliable app. Major updated needed..Version: 1.64.3

DisappointedI’ve used this app in the past and loved it. Now that they have gone to a pay system, not so much. Not worth a monthly subscription for me :( Also I always find a bit hypocritical to charge so much for user generated information....Version: 1.43

Great app with minimal utility for free usersGreat app that supports a wealth of user generated content- mostly locked within “Pro” tear and a monthly subscription fee..Version: 1.59.1

Can’t load photos and details on trails (pro)As a pro subscriber for few years I can’t believe app is not able to load details of trails such as photos, ride logs, and etc.Version: 1.64.3

Features taken away without noticeI’ve been using this app for 2 years with the ability to see trails anywhere in my state. But then when I got a new phone and the app upgraded it now only let me choose a city sized square of map or pay for Pro at $36 each year. I’d rather the app just included MTB advertisements instead of forcing to subscribe..Version: 1.50

Cancelled ProCancelled my sub. Not worth paying for until the bugs are worked out and an Apple Watch App is provided. Looking elsewhere for something similar..Version: 1.64.3

Annoying when GPS is offI really like this app but does it really have to notify me about my gps setting every time I click on a route, I don’t have my gps on and I’m happy just looking so please stop this annoying feature. Other than that it seems great.Version: 1.33

Ok, but definitely not worth paying forAs so many have already stated, this app isn’t the best but okay. Definitely not worth spending money on when there are other apps that work better and for free..Version: 1.59.1

Bad move changing to SubscriptionGreedy with many bugs.Version: 1.62

Not intuitive at allThis app isn’t very intuitive and doesn’t display trails that I know exist on Trailforks. It’s showing perhaps 10% of the trails in my local area. Tried syncing maps etc but no use. Thought with all the hype it might be a good app, but my experience has been one of disappointment..Version: 1.49

Can’t access accountUsed to be good but now it’s a total pain to access. You can sign with google in the browser not the app, where’s the sign in with google button people?.Version: 1.63.6

Used to be goodUsed to recommend this to people trying out rides all over NZ, but have stopped since it’s now pay to view..Version: 1.61.0

Great app butThis app is amazing, it’s been a wonderful tool in finding trails and especially because you can use it off line, but it stoped working for me about a year ago because your supposed to pay for it, and I was paying for it but for some reason it wouldn’t let me use it as if I didn’t pay my bill for it, so I deleted the app, well turns out that this entire time I’ve been getting charged for it anyway and I keep getting notifications saying that it’s going to renew my subscription soon, so let me get the straight? I haven’t been able to use it as if I wasn’t paying for it but yet they’ve been taking the money? And for that reason I give it one star.Version: 1.59.1

This app went dh faster than me!They make this app unnecessarily difficult to cancel, spam you, create a headache, don’t let you cancel through the app, used to be a great app and now it’s corporate greed to the nth…. go away outside.Version: 1.61.0

Was greatNow is nagware 🥲.Version: 1.49

Subscription!Used a few times but certainly don’t think the functionality is worth the subscription. I would buy for a one off reasonable amount but not worth a subscription. Shame everything is going down the subscription rip off route these days..Version: 1.55

Don’t sign up to Pro with Connect with AppleMake sure you create a Trailforks/Outside account and use it to sign up to Pro. If you sign up with Connect with Apple, it’s impossible to access the features of Outside/Gaia GPS etc since they don’t use Connect with Apple. And their profile management system doesn’t allow to reset or create a password without a prior password, which Connect with Apple doesn’t generate. Fractured system. Requesting a refund..Version: 1.63.6

Gone Downhill (no pun)Can’t believe the cost of this app considering their database is all community built. This app is useless without the Pro features..Version: 1.63.6

3D = dead batteryLost 25% in less than 2 minutes.. great feature.Version: 1.62

Now paywalledWas previously a fantastic app - I trusted it in remote Mexican mountains without any mobile signal - now paywalled in an extremely annoying way so much, much less usable. Paywall is 25 GBP / year subscription, which is not realistic in terms of either price or business model, as much as I liked the app before. Also *incredibly* cheeky, given that the app’s value is entirely from user generated content..Version: 1.58

Poor costumer supportHave Pro Subscription. Unable to recover password. Emailed support multiple times - no response, unwilling to help..Version: 1.55

Barely a decent app, not worth the $$I did the free trial of the Trailforks app and was amazed at the gall to charge $36 per year for what is a mostly useless and buggy product. I came into it with high hopes (the website is GREAT…especially on desktop), but after using it on a few rides didn’t even bother using it because it felt mostly pointless. It never got my location right. Sometimes it would have me on the complete opposite side of a ridge, once it even put me in the middle of a housing development at the base of a cuesta. I ruled out a hardware issue, because other GPS-based apps on my phone pinpointed my position down to a few meters. So, that right there makes it useless on the trail. It has limited-to-no pre-planning value. The desktop site is much better for planning and researching. App is ok for getting a quick snapshot of a trail on mobile, because it is slightly better than the mobile site in that regards, but only slightly. And finally, trail reports and other user data are outdated on just about every trail around here; most drop off around 2019, which seems to coincide with the imposition of the subscription fee. So, once users were forced to pay for access, they became alienated, and what is necessarily a user-driven information base (and also the most important asset of the platform) has stagnated as a result. Bottom line, this app is barely even worthy of free use, let alone $36/year. Disappointed..Version: 1.55

No Apple Watch appGreat app, but no Apple Watch app is a massive let down.Version: 1.63.3

Does it bill £25 straight off or refund when cancelledHit the buy button but it wants £25 straight off. i want three months max, before winter. please make the process clearer. also it quits and needs to reload on a 5S too often. i use 5S as they fit in your pocket while biking. so dont stop supporting it please. cheers.Version: 1.55

Once A Great AppI have used this app for years. It had more trails, more accurate trails, and a better GPS than most other trail apps. I used this app for most new rides I went on, until they decided to put up a pay wall for basically every useful feature. I understand that they need to monetize their app, but their strategy of blocking every useful feature is the deal breaker for me. I have deleted the app and will be using their arch-nemesis, MTB Project, until they update and change how they monetize the app. ***update*** I still don’t use this app for the above reasoning, but their app just happened to show up when I searched for something else. They are obviously filtering out the majority of the reviews, which just happen to be the negative reviews, to improve their overall rating in the App Store. This is a misleading and unethical tactic and really reflects the values of the company itself..Version: 1.57.2

Can’t restore Pro SubscriptionI upgraded to the Pro Subscription a few years ago and was told this would be for life. Now it seems I have to pay $3/month. It’s a great app, but not following through with the promise for ‘Pro for Life’ is pretty annoying..Version: 1.59.1

Pro subscription is terrible!Paid for a couple of years, can never log on via the app, keep changing passwords, unable to give feedback via the app, says to press the reactivate Pro button but there isn’t one!!! Waste of money. Pity because the app itself is good but I cannot get any help. Needs better updates. Won’t even let me choose my stars for this review and won’t let me pick any random nickname!.Version: 1.64.2

Would be great if it worked properlyReminds me of Windows 3.0, bugs all over the place..Version: 1.18

Ridelog times are not recording correctly.I record my rides with Strava and sync them over to TF. The moving time times are dramatically off in the TF IOS app. For example, there was a difference of 25 mins between Strava and TF on my last ride. I’ve noticed this for a while. I started using my iPhone timer to track my actual movements (pausing the timer each time I stop) for a while now and it’s consistently closer to Strava than TF. I don’t know how you are calculating ride times but it’s clear it me that TF is way off..Version: 1.62

DeletedCreated using trail details contributed by user community and now charging user for access to that information. Not right..Version: 1.49

ReviewReally good App- BUT it has crashed whilst ‘loading ride’ it seems to trying to load all the rides on the map. So please fix because it is a great app, but unusable at the moment!.Version: 1.24

RoutesTrying to add a race route from one of this year year’s races, so others can train and practice, and moderators keep rejecting it. Interesting is that the race happened in an existing trail system with newly added trails. We should have more voice here. No wonder why the ratings for you app are so poor..Version: 1.64.2

Needs Apple Watch supportWhy is this not available yet?.Version: 1.63.2

Pro subscription doesn’t workIt’s a good trail app for around my area but I tried to get pro but nothing happened and now I can’t restore my subscription.Version: 1.62.2

Extremely buggy but unfortunately best available option- Unstopped background process drains battery (make sure to disable background activity) - Wishlisted rides never appear onwish list - Saved rides can’t be seen for delayed periods - Video counter for rides is not correct (e.g. show that there’s a video but none are listed) In addition to the bugs the UX is lacking basic functionality like being able to filter out paved paths. Please get this stuff sorted or someone will extract your trail data and make a way better app. Your business isn’t that sticky..Version: 1.64.2

Bye byeGreat before Now as others have said monthly subscription with basically no options without it I’m out Especially when its everyday people add important content to it and now have to pay for the honour Bad job.Version: 1.55

Trailforks proThis was a great app a few years back, super handy and i really enjoyed it however now i have re installed a few years down the track everything is pretty much impossible without buying their trailforks pro version, which is a subscription service and no way you can just buy outright either im not against paying for an app, but im not sure about the way this ones done making it pretty much useless if you dont.Version: 1.59.1

Sub based greedLove the app, paid for a year to put it through its paces and love it. However, subscription based fee structure makes it a grossly over priced app over time, and I will not be renewing. If a once off payment for lifetime Pro was an option, I would seriously consider paying it. Really disappointing how greed trumps all..Version: 1.61.5

Subscription has messed the experience of the app upPlease relook the subscription method I accidentally put my location in wrong place and can’t relocate it to my actual location with all my local trails... thanks.Version: 1.47

KrisGreat but limited, the free area is to small..Version: 1.50

Initially awesome but...Great first two weeks using this -found local trails- loved it BUT then “get Pro” pops up and dont seem to be able to use it unless I sign up- probably would have made that choice anyway- but got locked out- and ‘forced to make that choice’ marketing need to figure out how real people actually think..Version: 1.49

Apple watchNeed to add the Apple watch to the app.Version: 1.63.3

Shady way to do businessFor years, trailforks relied on users information, gps tracking, user uploaded images, reviews etc... With that user submitted information they have compiled a huge database to be used for free. However, within the last year, without notice, they decided to privatize and monetize this database compiled by app users for $$$. The free version is now garbage, unusable and frustrating to use. For anyone that likes to adventure out with their bike, travel or try new trails, look elsewhere. It is not possible to use this app without paying the fee outside of your tiny free area. It’s now a junk app. More frustrating is that this shady business model is seen as “acceptable”. Perhaps a free version similar to the old one, and a pro version that does something additional - like Strava? Until then, it’s deleted and now using MTB trails..Version: 1.50

Needs Apple Watch DevelopmentStill can’t believe no AppleWatch app..Version: 1.63.6

Rip offA few months/years ago it was perfect. Told me all the routes I needed. All the local trails. Everything! That was until you had to pay a monthly subscription to ACCESS THE MAP! Ruined the app for good..Version: 1.56.1

Terrible no that outside bought itThe app is garbage and no longer works properly…waste of time and money…it used to be great…now it’s garbage.Version: 1.59.1

Half bakedSo my biggest complaint is that you can’t buy pro for only one month. $3 is a lot to pay for 1-2 rides when traveling or in a new place, but I’d consider it. Paying for a year for an app that tells me about my local trails I’ve been riding and working on for 30 years is a rip off. In terms of usability, these guys should use some of their competitors stuff and get some ideas about how a route planning and guidance app should work. This thing doesn’t do a good job guiding you on poorly marked, unfamiliar trails. I’ve tried to use it for that and constantly have to stop and study my phone. Most other apps do a much better job. Bottom line, use the free version to get some ideas about the trails you are curious about and pay for a good app to route and guide you. Or, ask at the local bike shop and buy a cliff bar or something while you’re there it’s will be less than $3 and you’ll support a small bike business..Version: 1.55

Ok if you want to spend moneyUseless unless you upgrade to pro.Version: 1.60.1

Getting worseThe data has always been spotty but with more info being gated less people contribute. No longer worth the rough UI if it can be avoided.Version: 1.62

The pro feature didn’t work!!I love the app but I bought a subscription and it didn’t give me The pro version. Ultra disappointed as I am on holiday and only have today to explore new trails :-(.Version: 1.61.0

Payed. BoooWould be better if you didn’t have to pay!.Version: 1.59.1

RuinedThis used to be a great little app, now ruined through complexity and Big Brother verification requirements. There are so many other choices now too with less hassle. Sad but am Deleting this app….Version: 1.62

Pro not working for me...Hi there, love this app, it’s a life-saver on trails and great for planning. I’m fully in support of your new plan to user-pay for features, however I’ve subscribed to this and can’t see many extra features, and I keep getting messages to upgrade to Pro - this is puzzling. Can you please contact me to resolve as I font want to pay a subscription if I’m not properly receiving the service/ all the benefits. I can’t find another way to communicate with you - I’d just like it if you could sort this out for me please..Version: 1.45

Won’t even let me log on.I pay for this app and after the recent changes I can no longer log on to it using the same user name and password I have always had… despite the useless help section stating I can..Version: 1.58

Yet another company trying to profit with subscription modelGreat app until they crippled it with making you pay for pro subscription if you want to see any trails not in your immediate vicinity. I know of a lot of people not going to upgrade to the pro and my concern even if I do decide to fork out the money is that support and trail reports will drop drastically..Version: 1.44

No longer goodUsed to be a great app but now you have to pay for it so have deleted..Version: 1.62

App is a rip offCosts way to much, when there’s free stuff available. Keeps crashing and isn’t up to date, couple this with the cost and it’s not worth it..Version: 1.49

We want cash. Now there’s been an influx of users you want the money, no warning nothing. Other apps did this and people stopped using them and you only have to pay on the app is beyond stupid when you just go through safari and same thing is free. Pure greed has driven you..Version: 1.44

Profiting on the work of othersThey are charging for data that their users collected to build the trails in the first place. Are they going to pay all those people for their time?.Version: 1.45

Sign up now neededOne of the recent updates now requires creating an account. Tired of apps requiring this and tracking us. Deleting it..Version: 1.64.3

This app used to be greatBefore a week ago this app was awesome. I could go mountain biking in a new area on vacation or exploring new places and I could use the app to find trails and navigate them with gps. I could find new local trails and it would help me find them and ride them etc. But now they took all the great features that used to be free and made you pay for them. Now you can only view a small area of trails for free and to see anything else you have to have the pro version. So if I go on a mountain biking trip somewhere outside of my town I can’t use this app to find and navigate trails. I can only see the trails in my town. Their are plenty of other apps like this that don’t make you pay to see anything that’s not in your area. I am deleting..Version: 1.49

Kind of uselessMap never downloads. Continuous failed to sync errors..Version: 1.64.3

Run by morons. This was the best platform for all outdoor adventures, unfortunately it’s being run by greedy morons who now want to charge more per month than Amazon charges for a full channel of videos. Honestly, it’s worth $10 a year but at $35 it’s a rip off. Try looking at MTB Project or a few others that are being run by people who are smart enough to overtake Trailforks. Such a shame..Version: 1.59.1

Skeezy subscriptionsHappy to take your money but can’t even provide a support contact email. Account issues? Too bad!.Version: 1.61.5

Stealing from those who helpedThis app was once free and asked for people to help develop and discover trails all around. Now you have to pay monthly for your own work. That’s pathetic.Version: 1.61.0

Used to be coolUsed to use this all the time until they made u pay for it, lame!.Version: 1.59.1

Needs Apple Watch support and lose the subscriptionApple Watch support needed. Also, no need for a subscription. 1 time payment would be better.Version: 1.63.3

Expected better experienceAll of a sudden is asking me to pay to view trails which I can do for free on the website. GPS on it is not very accurate and sometimes having trouble locating the trails. Rubbish for tracking your rides too, so only used it for finding trails, but now just going to the website instead..Version: 1.45

Paying for very littleI am torn. I used to love Trailforks, it was the best source for finding and updating local MTB trails. But I’m not going to pay for a year of something I only use 3-4 months. Especially when there are excellent competitors with more funding and more engineering behind them. I know you need to charge to survive and I would probably pay a small one time fee, but I’m tired of subscriptions and this one just isn’t worth it..Version: 1.59.1

Apple deletes all my reviewsSlows iPhone X done with apple.Version: 1.59.1
