✓ The app has lots of flaws and isn’t good on iOSAs a teen using this app, I have come to dislike it due to several reasons. I understand that the app has lots of limitations on iOS because of Apple’s privacy reasons, but the way the app blocks content and apps is just so bad. Instead of blocking apps, the app removes/hides every app that wasn’t pre-installed and disables things such as Siri, screenshotting, screen recording and the camera . One thing that has really coke to annoy me is the Qustodio VPN. Apparently, the servers are located in America, which is a problem for me who lives in Australia. Apps run 2x slower than usual and don’t load. On apps such as Instagram and TikTok, photo/video previews do not load as well as profile pictures. I’d recommend that the developers let you use the camera, screen record, screenshot and use Siri. It’s just disappointing that I got a phone because it had good cameras even though I can’t use them for only 10%-12% of the day. ✓ I can’t use my phoneI’ve had the app for a while now. My mum downloaded it without my consent and didn’t say anything about the app even when I asked. For the first few months it was fine, yeah I had a screen time but that was it and it was ok but I’ve recently downloaded Snapchat (which I am old enough for by the way I’m a teenager) and within a week all of the restrictions on my phone have changed. I can’t use google for anything, I can’t use google classroom, every app that I have says that I have no WiFi when I obviously do. I also don’t exactly like the fact my parents can see everything I send my friends, there are some things that are private and I want them to stay private. It’s an ok app but very intrusive, I don’t really recommend because it’s turned my phone into a useless device that I can’t do anything on. If I try use google or safari it says it’s blocked for my own safety like what? I was just going to google some actor or the wordle for today. I’d like to ask why this is possible in the first place, especially since the main reason for Questodio is to prevent children from going over time limits. Now then, that might be okay, but the next problem is such a pain to me. The next day, I was simply unable to use the internet AT ALL. ✓ RubbishI’ve had Qustodio for some time and it’s caused a few problems similar to those I’ve seen in other reviews, although I understand they may have been updated in recent months. However, my main issue with the app is the VPN. Unlike most VPNs it doesn’t increase the amount of Netflix shows available but limits them (not because of rating issues but just because of the way it works I guess). This may be a small issue but when me and my dad decided we’d had enough of the app and I wanted my shows back it was impossible to get rid of! It didn’t matter how many times we deleted it the VPN stayed and so did the restrictions as well as the limited Netflix shows. ✓ Just too glitchyWhile I appreciate the premise behind this app and the helpdesk somewhat trying to address the issues, it’s just way too glitchy. Resolutions are never reached. That said, I haven’t found a better app, so I continue to pay for premium service. I simply have to spend an exorbitant amount of time monitoring the app, watching it and waiting for it to fail. It’s one thing after another. Things that worked yesterday don’t work today. I update restrictions and they simply won’t sync to my child’s phone. I’m not saying there’s a delay, I’m saying a complete failure to EVER sync. You can imagine the frustration and tension this causes between me and my kids! The most recent issue is the VPN can just be toggled off on my child’s device. Sometimes it automatically toggles back on like it’s supposed to, but other times it won’t. He’s actually had it since he was two because his birth mom didn’t have a phone at the time. We needed a way to communicate with her during her time with him. The platform did take some time figure and see how it works with iPhone screen time parental controls among other things such as usage of apps. Some things do conflict. I’ve spent A LOT of time trial and error on this exact topic. Even though the adults involved knew the app was installed, we knew that the phone was being used in other ways by the adult. The GPS seems to have gotten better recently. My main complaint since the latest update is that I can’t copy and paste into Works or export the data it collects anymore. This basically makes the app useless for us since we track trends of usage, etc. PLEASE! Make a function to allow data to be exported and I’d be completely happy again with the program. ✓ Doesn’t Do It’s JobAs a preface, I am not here to complain about my family putting this on my phone. While it is ridiculous to be tracked at the age of 19 (yes, this app is still on all my devices even though I am an adult) and has caused tons of strife, it would be unfair to review the app according to personal issues. Qustodio fails to do its job properly. Many websites are blocked that are not malicious. Google Classroom, Moodle (a learning platform), and Quizlet (a flash card site). Side note, it is extremely embarrassing to have a class full of students waiting on your websites to be un-blocked so you can participate in the activity. I have also seen pop up windows from malicious or pornographic sites. While this may be due to the specific settings on my devices, this should not be happening (particularly for the malicious sites, which are normally blocked). Sometimes limits allowed for apps are cut significantly short; I was given time to play a game for 2 hours and was only given 30 minutes. New websites that were not blocked before will randomly become blocked. Yes, it does work some of the time, but to have an app like this fail to protect against the most harmful things is ridiculous. Parents who are considering getting this, I think built in parental settings on the iPhone would work better. Qustodio blocked four of these sites and sent me an email. After seeing the email, I quickly checked his Kindle (that was supposedly locked down tightly with Qustodio) and found a long list of horrendous pornography sites that he had accessed. Why did it only block four, but allow all of the others? I contacted Qustodio for a refund, as I was appalled and sickened that this happened to my young son and the app had failed to do its job (that I had paid $99 for). Conveniently for them, they don’t have a customer service phone number. I filled out a form online, explaining what had happened and asking for a refund. Two weeks go by and no response. I then found a customer service email and was able to get a response. They told me that they couldn’t issue a refund since I upgraded my app through Apple. I contacted Apple to see if they could issue a refund, and they stated they couldn’t per their terms of service. Insert eye roll. I circled back to Qustodio, and they still claim that since Apple controls their payments, they are unable to issue a refund. I offered them a solution of issuing a written check to me. No response. ✓ Terrible experience for our family.We’ve had Qustodio Premium for about two months now on our son’s devices. At first, we thought it’d be a great choice for our filtering needs. Unfortunately there are so many bugs within the app itself and its VPN that it has basically rendered itself useless for us. When scrolling through the activity log for the day, it refreshes once you’ve reached the bottom of the list and appears to load new content, but it’s the same content as shown at the top of the list (as per the timestamps.) The app’s VPN connection also messes with location settings for other apps that require a specific geographical/regional location in order to use them (e.g. Disney+) so he is unable to use them! Qustodio has also caused iCloud issues with our HomeKit smart devices and has prevented him from controlling things as simple as the lights in his bedroom. Altogether, it’s a great idea but needs major renovations and improvements in order for it to be user friendly and its app usage data to be accurate. However, what is most upsetting to me is that after just reading one of those reviews here, I see that Qustodio responded to it asking the customer to reach out and reference his review so that they could set up a service call. ✓ HorribleThis is honestly one of the worst protection apps out there. I understand the need for my parents to control what I do, but this app isn't it. It constantly messes with my WiFi connection, and turns it off occasionally. I have had issues where it downright just drains my battery dry (2 year old phone with no issues). Even when the 'sleep mode/downtime' is activated, I'm still able to listen to music, message family members, and sometimes even watch TV. This app is also annoying when it denies access to calling family/friends. I know that my parents wouldn't care if I were to call them/friends, but it just does not work sometimes. As well, it also messes with my Paypal and eBay constantly, making it unable to be usable at certain times. It is also very common to have a video sent to me by my parents, or I search for a review for airsoft/video games, and it will constantly say that it is restricted. This app is a total cash grab. I feel bad that my parents have to even pay money for this piece of technological trash. I could go on, but I'm trying to keep this to a minimum. ✓ Love/hate relationshipSometimes this app is great and sometimes not. I subscribed through the AppStore and when it came time to renew, it renewed automatically but Qustodio didn’t get the memo and they put my account back to the free level. They did take care of it when I reached out but they need to improve their system so that doesn’t happen. I’ve also had issues with some apps not working at all. I actually removed it from all our iOS devices and only use it on our computers now. It often says a site is blocked, that shouldn’t be, and then allows it when we reload the page. Not a huge deal (is rather it block too much than too little) but still a hassle. It does a pretty good job at blocking inappropriate context, and a great job at enforcing downtime (locks their computers right on time).
