Bit laggy on the paypayWrote this review after my first experience at a Spoons (and coincidentally my first time using the app), just caused me a bit of consternation after confirming payment. Delay was brutal, nearly had to buy it again. Loaded fries ain’t worth that stress my dudes..Version: 2.1.0

I Used To Try And Dislike ItAs customers we generally don’t mind paying a little more for high quality food drink and drink and depending on what we can afford for some of us this is a lot more. When you don’t have much money or are in a low income, going to a pub is a restrained affair. The prices normally limit your involvement of eating ad drinking out because the quality rarely matches the price or there is simply no budget option of basic pleasant grub at an affordable price, making must dining out experiences exclusive. Wetherspoons won me over once I realised that they provided the basic rest, hydrating and nourishment that anyone on the road or down on their luck or on a low budget might have required in any age. They allowed me to feel normal when homeless and jobless and gave me the rest and food and drink I needed to get back in my feet and when I was earning again, be able to enjoy a meal and drink out with friends. It doesn’t have to be a gastronomic up or a fancy place by it fuffills the age old tavern experience for all who need it and the drinks are fine, the operation usually smooth and the buildings varied and pleasant. Thank you for being there as a warm and reliable service when few other independents cater for a lower budget customer..Version: 3.2

ConfusingWhy add the price of the drink and then deduct it. It’s very confusing and makes you think you are over paying and none of the staff know how to use the app. If you want to offer discounts for not getting a drink then just add that as a deduction..Version: 5.1

The Liberty Bounds, Tower Hill, London.Walking in to the place the atmosphere was nice. That is where it ended. Asked how to order we were told to use the app. Eventually found the app and was trying to get help from one of the staff. Eventually caught the eye of a member of staff who was extremely rude. Told me if I couldn’t use a simple app I would have to go downstairs and order at the bar. Eventually sorted it out and waited four our food. Two meals arrived and two drinks. Twenty minutes later the other two arrived and some more drinks. The food was awful. Mixed grill? The chips were nice and so were the peas. All the meat was so over cooked it was crispy and the tomato was black to the extent that it crunched when bitten. All the meals were of the same poor standard. Three of our party ordered tea. The empty cups arrived and were dumped on the table. We waited for our tea milk and sugar to arrive for ages. Eventually asked only to be told ‘do your own down the end’, with a point to the bar. In Summary; DIRTY PLACE, EXTREMELY RUDE STAFF. AWFUL POORLY COOKED FOOD..Version: 5.1

PoorI have just been in to try to have some breakfast and have left without eating. We ordered two large breakfasts, one with black pudding. They arrived and were cold. I took them back to the bar and asked for two new breakfasts, not for them to be just placed under the hot lamp. Two minutes later, the same breakfasts were brought back to our table and they were still cold. Even if they had been microwaved it would have been better, but it is quite obvious that they had just been left on the side or just put under a hot lamp. I spoke to the team leader and she couldn’t even tell me the complaints procedure. I’m waiting for my refund confirmation email. The manager stood by and said absolutely nothing to me but questioned the team leader what the problem was. So disappointed and will not be returning again. A long wait for cold foodAfter placing my order on the Wetherspoon’s App, I sat back and waited. And waited. 15 mins after placing my order I was served my food - usually the drinks appear first - but not today. The ‘hot’ food was stone cold. Luckily as my drinks hadn’t arrived I knew that a server would be back, eventually. So I said that my food was cold and the server took it back to the kitchen. When the food arrived back - without any apology- it had been ‘reheated’ - the chips had been put back into the fryer - and although now hotter, they’d been over-cooked. When I had placed my order on the App, there had been a choice of two real ales - but the App had informed me that one was “out of stock”, so I ordered the other one. However, to add to my experience, and what else could go wrong? The second real ale was unavailable! Besides that and a server occasionally arriving at our table several times with food for other tables ...!.Version: 2.3

Terrible ideaSuch a terrible idea to make the customer do all the work. At least offer a discount if you’re going to force them to sign away their private information and do all the work themselves. Sitting at your location at Heathrow airportDownloaded. Opened. The screen popped up that asks “You are 700 ft away from our location, are you sure you...” no way to answer the question as the bottom of that pop up window is not showing up. Annoyed.Version: 1.13.0

Looks nice ...The app looks nice and seems to flow and function ok but had several problems for me. 1) although my sat nav is spot on it tells me I’m not at the pub I’m sitting in 2) the app doesn’t know the specials pricing - so check closely when ordering and paying. 3) can’t remove standard sides from a dish or ask for a substitute.Version: 1.8.0

Not table serviceI was very annoyed when I ordered food using the app which implied table service. When ordering my table wasn’t there on the list even tho my table clearly had a label implying I could order table service. So I ordered what was the nearest table (as previously at the bar when we tried to order we were informed our table did not exist) however it did not arrive! So I went to the bar and asked where my table service was and she replied ‘oh we’ve been looking for you!’ Well I’m very surprised she had because I had not seen anyone looking for me! On asking about the delay she advised the signs had only gone out that day and yet there was still an issue with table numbers! I find that hard to believe but even so no apology or no acknowledgment is not good enough! When I asked her how long the food had been on the side she almost broke down in tears! Not the response I was expecting having paid for my hot food!.Version: 1.9.0

Shows promise - but very very slow.It didn’t seem to understand some meals came with a drink, and looked like it was going to charge extra for the drink, it was very very slow, to the point of being unusable. Went to the bar and ordered from a person instead, which was much faster. I did give the app a college try though. Developers: Cache the pricing information, it doesn’t need to be reloaded every time you add an item to the cart, then check again on payment and only alert the user if the price has changed..Version: 1.15.0

Miss the contactMissed out having the expertise of the service staff to ask questions, favorites , or changes . Unable to add a side of something once items added to cart . A lost opportunity to make a connection in a foreign country..Version: 2.0.0

App is confusing and doesn’t allow much personalizationWe were unable to personalize our meals easily through this app and it took way longer to order through this than it would have if we just were able to talk to a waiter. Not sure why this app is being pushed except that it’s a probable attempt to mine data. I shouldn’t have to download an app to eat at a restaurant! Just let me order with a person!.Version: 2.0.0

Hi-tech uselessnessMaybe a great idea if you are a regular to Witherspoon’s but an otherwise pointless gadget that will be deleted from my phone as soon as I leave. During the time it took to find a free table, download the app and order, three waiters/waitresses passed by but didn’t look my way. Then, you can’t stagger the order so all arrived almost at the same time and the waiter couldn’t find my table. Know where your tables are people... the only reason I even spent the time to write all this is that my plane is delayed..Version: 1.14.0

Problems when items unavailable and deals unclearThe app is great in principle, but frustratingly often will let you complete a meal order, only to tell you at the very last payment step that the item is unavailable and has been removed from the order. Why let me add it in the first place, could it not be greyed out? Last complaint: the app doesn’t make it clear which deals are applied (E.g. Deli deals, kids menu combos etc); it just lists all the items with a “promotion” saving at the bottom. It would be much for useful if the payment screen layout could show deals and items in them. For example: Children’s Deal - Pizza, Chips, Drink. I hope the developers can implement these simple changes in the app to make it a much better experience..Version: 5.1

Kitchen Staff Can’t Even Reheat A Meal!As usual there is too much ice in the drinks, which is a recurrence at this restaurant. I ordered the chicken wings which were great. They came nice and hot with a lovely sauce to accompany it. However I was disappointed when my main meal came out and was only was stone cold. The meal had clearly been cooked left sitting and reheated in a microwave. I find it laughable that the kitchen staff were unable to reheat a meal adequately in a microwave despite this being a practice no kitchen should partake in. Sadly this happens all too often at this establishment. I unfortunately not for the first time have received dirty cutlery and plates. The staff got the benefit of the doubt from me the last time this happened. However, this was the final straw. The compensation I was offered was a replacement of my meal which I declined as it was so bad that it firmly put me off my food. They then tried to offer me a free pudding which I found laughable as I hadn’t even managed my main meal so why on earth would I want a pudding? The Golden Acorn in recent years has gone from a nice family friendly environment to go and get some nice pub grub. However it is no longer a place that people want to frequent for food as compared to other restaurants in the JD Witherspoon’s franchise this ranks amongst the lowest for food and drinks..Version: 1.15.0

Poor serviceIt was my first time having lunch here at The First Forty and I was disappointed to be honest. Acceptable concept, lame executionIf you are going to force people to order with an app, you better make it clear that this is required. And the app better be really good and highly responsive. Self-service coffee and tea in a restaurant context is absurd. Bring a teapot instead! Who wants to leave their bags alone at an airport? Do not go here- unless you want spit in your drink and to be treated like scumThis used to be my favourite Weatherspoons until I experienced the rudest service in history. Also, to add salt to the injury, after complaining that my order hadn’t arrived, the manager made my drink, bent down and made a motion that looked like he spat in it. I confronted him about what I had seen him do and his response was “well, you’ve been attacking me about this order”. Firstly, I calmly complained about the fact that my drink was over 20 minutes late and his demeanour was so unprofessional and bluntly rude. Secondly, I never attacked him and I don’t think that his response is the most fitting for someone accusing you of spitting in their drink. So, that confirmed that he had done that and I left and will not be returning to this place again. I even asked for his name and informed him that will be complaining and his word were “you either take the drink or you leave.” And he walked away. Abysmal..Version: 1.10.0

No Information No Assistance No HopeIf you want to change the way a restaurant works, you need to teach the customer the new paradigm. Putting the information that the seated customer must now download an app to order food on a wrinkled T-Shirt that whisks past you infrequently or a T-Shirt of a disinterested person who is too busy having a personal conversation with another person wearing the same wrinkly T-Shirt is probably the least effective way to teach the customer your think-groups new method for ordering food. If we all must wait on ourselves: at least inform us that we must do everything besides cook..Version: 1.12.0

NikhayesUseless! The app is incomplete I order two mixed grills which come with a drink, yet the app does not take the drink order so I have to go to the bar and speak to the manager to get the drinks . It took longer than if I ordered at the bar in the first place..Version: 1.14.0

Menu timesIt’s unfortunate that the food menu is not available all day. We were up early, so we had breakfast already and wanted an early lunch before flying and weren’t able to order off the lunch menu before 11 which we found quite ridiculous in an airport!!.Version: 1.15.0

Rude managersI have experienced two managers on two separate occasions in the Ralph ritz Randal being extremely rude, on the first occasion my interaction was with a female manager who argued with us about or order only to come to realise that the individual who took our order was the one who made a mistake but continued to be rude even after realising this, even laughing at us with another member of stuff. On the second occasion I simply pointed out to this staff member that this was the fourth time me and my friends were being asked for ID even though having showed it and being authenticated each time, to which he replied rather rudely ‘well I’m a manager so’ and once again laughed in our faces and we then overheard him gossiping about the incident with another member of staff. On both of these occasions I feel me and my friends were judged and patronised due to our youth, however on both occasions we have been respectful of the establishment. However all other members of staff have been perfectly lovely so I feel the issue lies within management..Version: 2.0.0

Good but could be much betterThe app is great, especially if you have your family with you or the kids on your own...but it’s let down by a few minor points. - there’s no way to specify how you want your drink/food served. E.g with or without ice. I’ve stopped buying drinks that could have ice added for this reason as I was fed up of getting half measures thanks to the glasses being so full of ice. - so many tables have the table numbers missing. I’ve mentioned this when ordering at the bar and nothing has been done about it. Without a table number, you can’t order food! - on one occasion my phone battery died after I ordered. For some reason (and this hasn’t happened before or since) the waiter wanted to see my receipt before giving me my food. Obviously I couldn’t do that because my phone had died. I was sat at the table number given when ordered so not sure why a receipt was demanded. Nobody has ever asked to see my receipt after ordering from the bar. Seemed a bit needless and caused embarrassment as I had to explain myself in front of the turning heads of other customers. I had done nothing wrong but was initially made to feel like I was trying it on. - why do the drinks come 10mins after the food half of the time?! If anything, surely they should arrive before the food. So as I say, it’s a good app, but it’s let me down a few times and could be much better with a few small adjustments..Version: 1.10.0

Hot wingsJust finished having a long discussion with two separate mangers over the chilli sauce which comes with them or not. I ordered 5 wings ( marked 3 chilli strong) and then ordered some extra blue cheese sauce. When they arrived there was no chilli sauce. I then asked the waitress if you could chase up the chilli sauce. The first manager five minutes later came and stated that no sauce comes with them. I asked politely if she could replace the cheese for the chilli. She walked off and didn’t return. Around 5/7mins later another manager came with a chilli sauce and informed me that they wouldn’t in the future do this again. This made me feel that I was somehow wrong and trying to cheat over an 80p sauce. Because of the time taken in discussing this issue my wings were now getting cold. I asked if they could be replaced for hot ones. The last manager came back them but stated that only this time would it be done. Again, what a great way to treat a customer who comes here on a regular basis. Maybe it was karma when it started to rain before I could start to eat them. Moving tables the birds descended and grabbed all of them out of the bowl. One of the waiters saw what happened and said I’ll get them replaced. I never saw him again. I very rarely bother to write a review or complaint, however, I do admire your company and how you manage to deliver drinks and food at volume and in unique locations and buildings. Ridiculous and superfluous.A normal procedure for ordering would make the experience perhaps more efficient than excessive technological advancements. I have used the app for my entire order, but cannot order a side of Parmesan cheese for my dish unless I go up to the counter and order that small condiment separately and lay for it separately. I would appreciate an atmosphere in which I didn’t feel like I am a walking, breathing itemized bill. Very poorly thought out. This also disincentivizes the waitstaff to be personable and helpful. I will never eat anywhere that uses Wetherspoon again. Give me a McDonald’s ordering Automat. Better technology and service at McDonald’s for the value..Version: 1.15.0

?You have to enter your credit card when you download the app, but when you order, it won’t let you pay with that credit card. You have to take a picture of your card - which did not work in my case - or manually enter the card again. Very frustrating..Version: 2.0.0

Bad customer serviceOn several occasions I’ve been spoke to by a member of staff who swore called me stupid saying all tables had a number in when I ordered food this particular one didn’t called me Stupid nob head to another waiting customer who was a partners neighbour who explained what was said. I then left. Then tonight another separate night I feel I don’t want to be served by her as the attitude Is disgraceful in a customer service environment. I’m in tonight and the same member of staff is having a very rude and disrespectful time and manner with a group of women on a works do. This is why the issue is now been raised I’ve been 3 times whilst she is working and each time something l. Large coloured young women. Tattoo on top of back behind neck. I have genuinely walked out before my interaction and tonight as she was the only person behind the bar. Sorry this has to be brought up but feel it’s detrimental to the company..Version: 4.1

Terrible app systemThe cafe seems ok, but the menu is somewhat limited and the app system makes ordering very inflexible—no way, for instance, to indicate “no meat”. The app also failed 3 times in the course of submitting a small order. And when one is laden with bags at an airport ordering at the bar is very inconvenient. You still have to go to a coffee bar for coffee, and then all the coffee machines were out of milk. I should have given this place 2 stars..Version: 2.1.0

Not intuitiveDownloaded the app, got the order in, and then went to pay. It didn’t like my American Visa card (not unusual due to the requirement for a signature which is not used in the UK). So I picked an Amex card and got through the ‘verified’ screen. What wasn’t apparent was the OK button that was hidden way down the page with no indicator showing we’d need to scroll down to find. So we kept sitting and waiting and when I went to check to the order found that it hadn’t even been submitted. Eventually we got it figured out but not a fan....Version: 2.0.0

Terrible way to run a business...I downloaded the app in order to place an order while at Heathrow....and the app was so glitchy, it was impossible to process payment. Besides freezing, the button mapping was glitchy so when i tried to go to the next page on my paypal after confirming payment type, it kept errantly selecting enter a new card. Accepting this might be the only alternative, that also proved impossible as the keyboard obscured the data entry fields. Frustrated, i decided to simply sit in the restaurant and occupy a table in protest for a couple of hours. I would have gladly placed an order..... if not for the app not working..Version: 2.2

Not accessible for a blind person using voice over with the iPhoneStill not very happy with this app as it still not been made accessible for a blind person. I just wish the app developers were trying to take more notice and act on the feedback. It’s nowhere near to being accessible but it will be great if you could make it pick up the pub that you are in when using voice over with the iPhone. The map has never been accessible if you could make it a sort of list view where you could tap along the screen and then double tap the choice of pub you wanted that would really help especially with voice over users like myself. Myself personally, I have assisted other developers such as Uber and TSP bank to make the apps more accessible. Come on guys and girls, make this app really accessible so a blind person can go into a pub and order their meal independently and not have to worry about what table they are at. Sort it out! Email problemThe app accepts emails that include “+” in the address then fail to process payment. Only when you remove the “+” does the app accept payment. Note, having a “+” in an email address is totally valid and an important personal privacy enabler..Version: 2.3

RubbishDidn’t tell me lunch wasn’t being served yet. Decide what I’ll have on breakfast menu, but credit card payment requires a text that can’t receive as I’m travelling. Lacking in informationI have used this app numerous times and it has worked fantastic. One of the things it fails to do is state the hours at which children are allowed to be in the pub and by child I mean 6 month old sleeping baby. Food was ordered through the app but at no point during the process did the app mention the hours which “children” are allowed on the premises. I ordered food as normal only to be told, by a member of staff, as food was brought out “The kid has to leave before I can serve food”. Now this is at 20:50 and while I’m sure it may well be against the licence policy of Wetherspoons at no point during my ordering through the app did it ask if “children” were at the table. I also fail to see how having a sleeping baby is an issue. So from what I understand I could sit in a Wetherspoons with a wheelbarrow full of bricks, soil and god knows whatever else but not a baby that is fast asleep. Yes this is a rant but I’ve spend the last 3 months serving at sea to come home to this. Rule Britannia!.Version: 1.13.0

Unusually Poor Standards of Cleanliness and ServiceI’ve been to a number of different Wetherspoons - Colchester, Sudbury, Berkhamsted and Poole come to mind - and this is my first visit to Harwich Bottle Kiln. I was disappointed to note that tables were left uncleared for absolutely ages: the table next to hours wasn’t touched for well over half an hour until a group of people came to sit there and had to ask the waitress to clean it. Same waitress provided our meals but couldn’t be bothered to ask if we needed anything else such as ketchup. I went to find a condiments holder, without any success, so I tracked down our server who then took nearly five minutes to return with some. There were far too many people shifting furniture (chairs, tables etc.) around - again not something I’d experienced before in other venues, nor do I wish to again. My disabled wife now lives in a local care facility - I’m not sure whether we will be rushing to return! At least the food was tasty - albeit the chips were pretty much stone cold! Paid 3 times I should have?!I went into Wetherspoons 2 days ago having used the app before with ease. But this time the app had updated and was running very very slow and I was becoming impatient because it had taken round 20 mins to put something in my basket. When I went to pay I tried to use my Apple Pay and it supposedly didn’t work and kept everything in my basket, so I tried again and the same thing happened, no order number or reference number appeared to say I had paid. So I then entered my card details manually and it finally came up with my order and reference number and my basket had been cleared. So we wait for our food and they brought 4 drinks over when there was only 2 of us so we questioned it and apparently my order had gone through 3 times bearing in mind I ordered a pizza too so for my order to have gone though 3 times it wasn’t cheap. But they reassured me I could be refunded but I have since checked my bank and they have taken the money out for food and drinks I didn’t receive! It was the apps fault as it told me there was an error when there wasn’t and I had paid the first time!.Version: 2.0.0
