✓ ColorStoryColorStory is such a good editing app. It’s a must have. There are so many amazing filters and more. For only $3 dollars you are able to unlock all the filters. But even the free ones are enough. For the first month I had it I used the free stuff which was really good. But then I trialed the other filter and I had to bye it for such a cheap price. ✓ Only Photo Editing App You'll NeedBefore getting A Color Story I solely used VSCOcam. Since getting this app, I've hardly touched VSCO. I love it because you can get bright images that pop and are vibrant without any weird skin tones and funky color changes. They have presets for any style you might like, and fun extras to add a little pizzazz if that's what you like. There are also amazing technical options like adjusting an image using curves. Plus, you can save your favorite filter combinations as your own so it's easy to have consistency. The only (sorta) negative thing is that I wish you could batch edit. That's the one thing I miss about VSCO, but because you can save an exact edit "recipe" on ACS and import another photo to apply that same edit to, it makes up for not being able to batch edit. Regardless, it's by far my favorite photo editing app to date!.Version: 3.1.4

Although I only really use it in quite a basic way, there are ways to tweak different aspects of the filters too, so I think it would be useful to people who are more skilled photo editors than myself. I just use it as the free version and it’s great for my needs. You can pay a subscription to have access to all the features, or opt for one time purchase “packs” of filters instead. I’ve used it for quite a long time so have bought packs occasionally and the developers give free packs away every now and then. This collection is more than enough for what I need. I'm not quite as happy with the interface - in terms of switching between filters and tools, for example, or going back without losing what you've done. ✓ I feel inspiredUsing a color story has been very fun. The plus packs are great, and have made me feel much more inspired as I take and edit photos. I also like the grid function, so I can see what my photos look like next to one another. I wish that it wasn’t so expensive to get all the plus packs and editing tools to keep (I’m not a super fan of subscription services, so far I’ve only bought the filters and effects I like). That said, I’ve still enjoyed using the app quite a lot. I take more pride in taking a nice photo now, and pay much closer attention to color! I feel like I’m starting to develop my own visual language or style in photographs, which I’ve never felt before in this medium. Hope others enjoy as well! **update on current edition: it seems like all the glitches with the most recent update have been resolved—it works fine. It’s got everything I need in one place (especially with the latest updates for batch editing and video/boomerang editing!) - way more than just pretty filters. Having said that, the filters are BRILLIANT. I have downloaded most of the filter packs, and although I don’t use all of them, the favouriting function makes it really easy to edit quickly using only the ones that match my style. I always struggled to find apps with the kind of filters I liked - I didn’t want to make my photos seem “moody” or “vintage”, I wanted bright whites and bold colours, and this app is perfect for that (it does do moody and vintage too if you’re so inclined!).Version: 2.0.1

✓ Great filters - butI have to be honest - i love everything about ACS except for how OFTEN I’m prompted to write/rate a review for the app. it happens every update, even with nothing but minor bug fixes. i thought writing a review would get rid of the prompt boxes, so i’ve submitted multiple reviews and ratings only to still be prompted about how i like the app. i love it. great filters and incredibly user friendly. but when editing multiple photos in a row to prep them for stories sharing, it’s incredibly frustrating to deal with the review pop up that locks up the entire screen and completely interrupts the creative flow. for the reason i’m giving it one star because i deadass avoid opening and editing on this app because of the review prompts..Version: 4.0.2

Super easy to use with pre-existing filters (all with such fun names), but also an incredible amount of control of you wish to retouch your Inage manually. Saving your favourite retouching actions is easy for pics taken in the same style light so you can quickly edit multiple pics. Or there’s even a bulk edit function. ✓ Love the editing options, interface maybe needs tweaksLove that there are so many more editing controls than instagram. The interface I found a little slow to navigate through. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m just so used to Instagram’s that something different was throwing me off, or if it just needs a few tweaks, like the buttons need to be put in more intuitive places. Particularly when I’ve drilled down into one of the editing menus, it’s hard to figure out how to get back to the main editing menu. Also the controls are very small. ✓ Dare I Say it...Dare I say it, but today I cancelled my 2 year long VSCO subscription and have moved to Color Story for my editing needs. I use it in conjunction with a few apps - an app dedicated to shooting, color correcting (you guys!) and an app for blemishes/small details ACS doesn’t handle and it’s a dream. It has made my feed more fluent and visually thematic and I love it. I love the new direction my Instagram feed has taken and ACS has helped me achieve that. I love the fact that I can plan out how my feed is going to look with the use of the grid. I don’t bother with e captions, but it’s such a useful tool to visualize how my feed will turn out once my scheduled posts hit my feed. I’m so happy I bit the bullet and paid for a yearly subscription. My one suggestion is the layout of the filters. I have a lot of trouble sifting through so many on the bottom of my screen. Credit goes to RealSimple Magazine for suggesting it in their April 2018 issue. Thought, oh well, it’s free. Let’s give it a try. It’s beyond versatile. I scheduled all my post for the week... not only did it not remind me but it decided to delete all my content and schedules. This was the 2nd time it’s happen to me. Plus if you schedule a post then click on it to check the time it will erase the scheduled time on photo. Will show up in schedule list but will not remind you at scheduled time. Today there is just a big ghost grid when I tried to add in photos there are still 6ghost grid slots. Major bummer. Lots of work down the drain. Might have to go back to planoly. ✓ Not set up for iPad usersTouching up photos are great however if you are an iPad user, the interface isn’t set up to automatically, or at all, to turn your iPad horizontally. So when you are editing, you must have your device vertical. I want to use this app attached to my removable keyboard while I type or edit my photos and I cannot. The batch edit feature is ok just be aware you can’t batch edit all the photos then go in a tweet just one or two, including rotating one photo in your batch. You must crop, rotate your one or two photos before you batch edit in this app. I give this app a four star because it’s the closet thing to Lightroom on your phone or iPad for quick photo editing especially for selling sites. With tons of tools and incredible filter packages, A Color Story really brings out the brightness and depth of photos, which is otherwise often difficult with phone photography. ✓ BeautifulThis app is perfection. The colors and the variety are amazing. Most photo editing apps focus on changing how you look completely. Make you thinner make you distort how you look. For me I love taking photos of my daughter. I don’t want to change her features. Or make her look different. But as she is a child sometimes my lighting is poor because I’m a mother taking photos on the fly. The color makes everything pop I can see her freckles better the landscape around her enhanced as well but not changing. My favorite features are her blue eyes and freckles but it’s hard for me to capture them. The amount of choices and color schemes help those things pop despite the photographer. All in all. However, since the last update it crashes continuously in the middle of editing on my iPad pro. I can be one step away from being done with an edit and it will crash, or I can be on the first step of editing and it will crash. There really is no rhyme or reason to when it will crash, it just does. If this were fixed it would be 5 stars easy. On another note, it’s super simple to navigate and learn. I love that I can edit even the smallest things in a picture. I do wish there was a way to easily compare an original picture to the edited picture or even flash back one step to see the difference. Definitely love the app, just wish this bug would be fixed with crashing on the iPad Pro. For what it’s worth I can’t remember ever having the app be glitchy on me, as other reviews are stating, but also... new app updates are rarely flawless. The app itself is quite easy to understand, and once you have a few filters you enjoy and use routinely, you can save them into an easy to navigate folder instead of applying 100 different filters and wasting time (hello, me). I have purchased over 10 packs of filters, without regret. I use this app to edit photos when I’m too lazy to hop on the computer, and process a majority of my photos for a relatively successful lifestyle/art instagram. Highly recommended!.Version: 2.0

I love that there are filter collections developed by photographers and creators that I know and follow on IG (Rebecca’s Seasons pack is my go-to). My only wish is that when browsing filter packs to buy, the example photos should show the before and after of the edited photo. It’s really hard to get an idea of what the filter might actually do when each example photo is different and there’s nothing to compare. This should be a really simple fix, just show half the photo unedited and half with the filter applied. ✓ So many options, so much controlI do the annual subscription and I have for the last couple years - I used to buy packs individually but sometimes they didn’t turn out how I thought so I’m happy to be able to use everything available. There’s so much control which is nice - opacity of filters, being able to move and flip effects and even being able to change the warmth, brightness and saturation of a filter. This is my #1 photo editing app, I’ve stopped using everything else including VSCO and Afterlight 2. The adjust function is amazing, the curves tool helps so much to get the light perfectly where you want it. I’ve been a fan of ABM for at least a decade and they know what they’re doing when it comes to making photos beautiful. Also: even though they have the Filmm app, you can filter videos with this too, but there’s a lot less functions and options than with Filmm and you can’t preview the whole video/boomerang but if you want to make a small or fun change before posting an insta story, it’s great for that too. ✓ Great app - recent update makes it difficultI’ve been using this app for a long time now, I have all the filters and have always loved it. It’s easy to use and easy to mix different styles. However the most recent update makes it harder to edit photos, especially your pre saved filters. There are too many steps involved especially if you are trying to use multiple at a time or trying to edit a bunch of photos in a row. Hopefully they will see this and make a change - I’d recommend being able to select the presets you built as a tab in the filters sections. I thought the saved option was it but instead it’s a square box above the tabs and you have to click into it every time you want to use a different preset. ✓ Good app but a few minor extras would make it amazingI really like the filters and effects on this app. The only thing I wish is that I wish you could have a ‘brush’ to take the effect off certain areas of the picture. Being a photoshop action creator myself, I truly appreciate the subtle nuances of A Color Story. I appreciate the lovely aesthetics of the design. The presets are not over the top and create truly instagram-worthy edits. And it has curves! Say no more! The curves feature is essential for custom edits. I’ve enjoyed playing, experimenting, and editing my photos using this app. The only feature I would love to see implemented would be for the personalized saved editing presets to allow the user to remove individual steps in the preset formula. There are 2 things that dampen the user experience: -The CONSTANT ads for purchasing new packs. I get it, apps need to make money. This one berates you with new packs in every single use. The pop-ups and banners are a big nuisance. -No preview of filters on your own photos. The new pack previews show filters only on high quality photos and on different pictures (vs using the different filters on the same picture so you can see the difference), making it almost impossible to envision what they’d look like on your own photos or what the filters look like at all since you’re not familiar with the original version of the sample photos..Version: 3.0.2
✓ Great AppI use this exclusively for editing my photos. You can do a lot with just the basic set of filters and additions, but they also roll out filter colabs every so often to keep things new and fresh! Well worth the money on those for sure. It doesn’t just have filters and light leaks/confetti though, it also has some cropping, perspective and color tweaking tools, comparable to the things you might find in photoshop. Any bugs you might experience are always quickly fixed, and they are constantly trying to make the app better. In 2.0 they have us the ability to add a photo to our Instagram grid to see how it looks with the rest of our photos.. with out actually having to upload the photo to Instagram! I LOVE THIS. ✓ LOVE this app!Been a subscriber for a while now, and I absolutely love this app. I’ve been a photographer for over four+ years, and when I am looking to update my portfolio photo, this is my go-to app since the filters make my photos look absolutely fabulous. This is mainly the only feature I use, but it’s definitely worth the price because there is so much more you can do! I’m also a HUGE fan of AI, and the developers have done an amazing job of incorporating AI into the interface. This is one out of three applications that I mostly use to integrate some of my photography with AI. While I don’t believe in the art features that some of these apps use nowadays (such as typing out an entire description and having AI create it. Seriously, what’s even the point of that? It totally takes away from those who actually work very hard to create masterpieces with their hands), but I will say that these days, AI is a necessity and can help you turn your photos into a beautiful work of art without even having it create the work for you. Instead of shunning the introduction of Artificial Intelligence, with the mixture of photography and the help of AI, this application and many others truly make the integration and mixture of both worlds an absolutely beautiful thing, and it’s a very welcome change that can be easily embraced by photographers all around the world if they learn to adapt accordingly. ✓ Throw away photoshop!The app is so powerful. How do they do it? It has lots of tools that I used to rely on photoshop for but now I can quickly edit my pics in minutes. ✓ Best photo editing app I’ve ever used!I love this app. I’ve been using for over a year. I have tried many similar apps. ColorStory is the easiest and the best out of all I’ve use so far. The filters are great and the editing functions are so easy to use - there a loads of functions but they are all laid out really clearly. I use mainly ColorStory for Instagram and it’s kept all my photo colours really consistent and fresh looking. The only limitations are that you can’t play through a video when editing - this make it really hard to know how much to adjust the settings/filters for the video. You have a wide array of tools in just the basic version, so it’s amazing regardless whether you elect to purchase any additional filters. Best of all, the update will make it possible to add text in conjunction with the new app coming out within the next month or so. ✓ Problem fixed!Update 8/17- Got a prompt response from the developers, who explained a small bug with the update that has since been fixed. They recommended updating the app and trying the restore purchases option again, and this time it worked! All my prior purchases are there again, and the app is working the way it always has for me. Big props to the team for responding with a solution so quickly. I am happily using this app again. This app used to be fantastic, but as of yesterday’s update it seems to have forgotten all of the filters I’ve purchased over the past year and a bit. Now it’s prompting me to either buy ACS+, or buy all the filters again individually. Since I don’t plan to buy everything for a second time, I’m going to have to say goodbye to this app until this gets sorted out. Some reviews say it’s crap - it’s really not. You have to adjust the amount of a filter based on your original images (if super dark use same filter twice) or adjust manually to a level exposure then add a filter and most of the time a combo of filters works best. ✓ Filters are great, could use some upgradesIf it weren’t for just one or two really useful editing tools in Snapseed, A Color Story would be the only editing app I use for planning my IG feed. There are a couple of tiny things I wish they would change. The one that is most frequently annoying to me, is that I can’t do the press and hold to compare the original photo to he edited one until after I’ve committed to the edit. I mean, obviously I can undo it if I don’t like it, but as I’m scrolling through filters, trying to decide which looks best, it would be helpful I I could do a quick press and hold to continuously compare to the original, not just the filter before it. ✓ Weird Issue with LoadingI love this app but I have this constant issue. I will open the app and usually try to batch edit but it also happens when editing one photo, I’ll choose my photo/s, click on the filters, and they all appear as a blank white screen. It’s like the filters aren’t loading? And then when I click on the filter it turns my photo into a blank white pic. I have to close and reopen the app about three or four times to get it to finally load the filters. Then other times it works just fine on the first try. I do a lot of IG marketing and use this app solely as my photo editor and it’s getting really annoying that it doesn’t work. I would love a update to fix this. Otherwise this app is great. ✓ Lovely editing app!I absolutely love A Color Story to edit my iPhone photos before posting them on Instagram. It has a multitude of filter packs (however quite pricey as you have to buy them individually), extra effects and editing tools. I love the new update with the option to save your photos to a grid & plan your insta feed. One element I miss is being able to tap on the photo to see the version before applying a change (you can do this on other apps and Instagram as well and it’s super helpful!). ✓ Great app, missing a few thingsI’m an artist and use my phone to take and edit reference photos frequently, so I’ve tried quite a few photo editing apps. Because I'm an artist (and other contributing factors) I’m poor and can’t justify spending money on a bunch of apps and subscriptions and whatnot, so I use what’s available for free. Color Story is, perhaps unsurprisingly, the best app I’ve found for editing color, contrast, temperature, and exposure. The free filters (and ability to adjust the intensity of said filters) are pretty decent, with a few stand outs, and the free effects aren’t bad either. So what’s it missing? The big two for me are easy blemish editing and controlled blurring. It’s irritating to have to edit many of my photos in multiple applications. But hey, for free, I’ll take what I can get and this really is a great, intuitive, simple, but fairly comprehensive photo editing app..Version: 2.0.2

✓ Why not the date of the photo created?I love the app but my only gripe is that it saves as the date that it is edited, not the date of the actually photo taken. E-mailed customer service asking if there was an option to save the edited photo as date taken instead of date edited and the response was “Thanks for your question! Since many of our users like editing their photo and sharing immediately to Instagram, A Color Story records the date as when the photo was edited. Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to change the date. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause!” Yeah.. it is an inconvenience since I don’t have the time to edit the same day as the photo was taken I have to go back and find the date of the photo I edited and go edit the date on the computer when I get the chance and that makes it even more difficult to keep photos and videos organized and harder to find when trying to make photo year books or anything like that. Definitely something this app needs to work on. At least have an on and off option if “many” of their users don’t worry about the time stamp. Especially if I’m paying for this app..Version: 4.0.5

✓ MOST AMAZING EASY TO USE APPI'd recommend this app to anyone! In fact, I wrote a whole blog post about it and all the features that I love! The new update has batch editing, a grid layout to make sure your feed is nice and pretty and the best filters. This app helps me plan out and edit my entire Instagram feed and people even think I’m Insta famous because it looks so well! My fav filters are essentials and blush. Plus I love that once you edit your photo, you can save that edit as a "preset" just like in a desktop computer in Lightroom. Once your ready to edit your next photo, you can go to recent edits or saved edits and use those for your photo editing. The app is great and Id recommend it to anyone! Especially those color lovers!
