✓ Great film emulation with room for improvement.Firstly, I really like this app. The film emulations are great and I love the option to reduce sharpness in images. After using heavily for a few days, there are some simple features that I feel are lacking and if implemented this app could be significantly improved. Option to decrease/darken shadows I find it pretty silly that you can only lift shadows. This is a major flaw. You could add a curves feature, that would so the issue. Option to increase highlights Same here as with shadows. You should be able to increase highlights as well as decrease. Ability to zoom in on photo Seems like an obvious one. Often I find myself pinching to zoom to check how film stocks/settings have affected details and it doesn't let me. Option to save/load presets This would be a fantastic addition. I find I'm constantly having to re-set my go to settings when loading a new picture. Recalling previous settings works, until you switch between RAW and JPEG. It makes sense to implement presets so that you can easily recall settings. Bugs: I've noticed on most exports, there is a black line along the top of my images. Thanks for making this app though! ✓ Great AppGot this app because I love the look that my film cameras produce, but it’s not always easy to carry them around. This app creates very film-like photos when it comes to photos of things (landscapes, objects, etc.), but not as much with photos of people. If theres a face in the picture, it seems to look inauthentic. Maybe it’s the photos I’m choosing to edit - I’ll update my review if that ends up being the case. ✓ Great SimulationsThis app is great, moved from VSCO when they moved to a subscription model. I'm happy to pay for quality apps, but would rather a one off payment over a recurring subscription. It comes with a generous amount of free films included, which are decent. But it was Portra that I was craving, so happily paid the £3.99 to unlock this. Which seems good decent value for a one off payment per film pack which contained Porta/Ektar/Ultramax. I'm really happy with the look of the simulations. My only 2 negatives are: 1. It would be great to be able to make perspective adjustments within the app, at the moment this can be done in apples photos, then exported to RNI. 2. There is a menu to scroll through different films eg. negative, slide, instant etc. However there is no way way to scroll straight to the films you have purchased. I have purchased a single pack, but I still have to scroll through the other negative films (including ones I haven't paid for) to get to the ones I want. A way to create your own favourites section, would be amazing. Great app, once the UI is improved, it will be perfect..Version: 2.0
✓ Finally! These developers care about their users!Like everyone else, I was a major fan of the RNI app when it first came out that I bought the initial set of film sims and features. Was really disappointed when it seemed like they were forcing the time stamp on everyone unless you subscribed to their monthly paid plan, but it seems like the developers listened to their users and have rolled back on that “feature.” Can recommend this app again, and am really looking forward to their video LUTs offerings in the future as well (please add options for 1-time purchases, thanks!).Version: 3.0.4

✓ Love this but I wish...I love this app it has really nice filters and is very easy to use. Even though there are great aspects to it I definitely wish it had more to offer as it was really hard to get my photo to look how I wanted it. It was hard to make the colors cooler when most of the filters are warm tone. And I felt like a lot of the filters give it a haze even if they aren’t vintage. But overall this is a very easy to use good app. I definitely recommend it..Version: 1.7.2

✓ Cracking AppI really like using this app to edit my photos, it’s really easy to use and produces some great results and is also fun to play around with. My first proper camera used film and this is a fun way to remember those days without having to blast off a whole reel to see the results. Great fun. ✓ Pretty goodSeems to emulate film more accurately than VSCO. Grain adjustment also better than other apps. Would be handy if we could save edit options to apply it more easily and quickly to other photos, but can’t see this. ✓ Almost perfect... but needs vignette correction!I love RNI films. I have both the app and desktop software for lightroom. The only thing missing front the app version is a way to CORRECT for lens vignetting.. For some (including me) this can be a major drawback when editing RAW images from your camera straight on your phone. There is a way to ADD vignetting if you want the effect, but the slider only moves one way. If you fixed this, it would be perfect..Version: 3.0.9

✓ Best vintage filter app out thereAll of these filters are great. I really like the vintage ones in particular, so much that I had to buy the rest. It has a great built in editor too, so I can throw a filter on my pictures and edit them very quickly. I also like the feature that allows you to choose the strength of the filter itself. Not all apps have this feature, and it’s really great for more subtle looks. This is the only filter app I use now, 10/10 recommend..Version: 1.7.1

However, the 3:2 aspect crop is no longer available, so i have to crop it before bringing it into RNI. Bring back that crop please. Recent changes were made with the addition of a time stamp. ✓ Edit: developers care about the communityAfter the backlash developer team had made changes to the way date stamp tool works: now disabling it does not require a Pro subscription. Props to the team for listening to the community. Hope to see more compelling features coming to the Pro package, like additional editing tools and more film emulsions. Old review for the context: Newly added date stamp tool is actually just a way to force an app watermark on your images, that cannot be disabled without a subscription purchase. Even though release notes state that we get to keep all our previous filter purchases, it does not make much sense to continue using them if there is going to be a watermark plastered over your images. Also locking app unless you sign up with your Apple account is unfair if you are not going to use any subscriptions. From a long-time user, not a good look, guys..Version: 3.0.4

✓ Photo editing app with it allFirst impressions of this app was that you get a decent amount of the “vintage” film look filters for free (so app makers, please don’t change this) and honestly the filters you can pay for aren’t badly priced either. Beyond this feature tho I absolutely love the look/design of the photo editing section for brightness, contrast etc. It’s so simple and attractive looking and just feels so smooth to use right up to even the saving/sharing your edited photo. ✓ Amazing. Just ONE thing though!I adore this app. I began looking for another app for the film simulation due to not wanting to subscribe to VSCO. I used VSCO for many years but this app is much better. The filters are amazing and the editing tools are much more useful than VSCO. The UI is also fun to work in. The only thing I would love to see added, is to have the ability to expand the image while editing to see more detail. It’s hard to really dial in the grain when the image is so small. ✓ Coming from a film shooterI shoot probably 1-2 rolls of film a week and have been doing so for about 3 years now. I downloaded this app because after scanning and adjusting colors on my computer, the image doesn’t always transfer well to my iPhone. This app helps get the color simulation spot on of the film I am shooting. Always improving the app which I appreciate. I really enjoy the feature that came out recently where you can apply adjustments made to multiple photos. -what would be extra great is if you could select these photos from the gallery, thumbnails, and apply said adjustment. Instead of loading each photo individually. -also to apply the same crop, that would also be helpful! -some new BW film emulsions would be nice to have on board like JCH, and some of the “newer” films. I’ve yet to buy the desktop filters..waiting for the quantity of film types to increase..Version: 1.9.1

I will definitely consider purchasing the other packs but before I do I would like to see the User interface change a little. The screen real estate in my opinion isn’t used to the fullest and I often find myself wishing that I could view more of my photo to edit. As a hobbyist with an unrelated dayjob, i really don’t have the time to spend hours tweaking and (pixel) peeping every photo i take. However, I prefer to have something better than your average filter app. This is the fastest, and highest quality, RAW editor I’ve used. The final images that i get from this app are at least on par with those that i edit on my PC. I hope they address those two issues i had at the top someday. I also hope this gets ported to macOS someday. With this app, the developers have proven that they can build a quality standalone program, so Im not sure why they chain themselves to lightroom or capture one..Version: 3.0.15

A few extra editing facilities would be great. - ability to zoom in to see what grain etc is looking like when viewed on a larger screen - curves - ability to crop, straighten and rotate once have applied filters - ability to flip horizontal, vertical and rotate at 90 degree increments - I loved a filter I used the very first time used this and then promptly forgot which it was so thought I would reload the image that had the filter applied to it but the app didn’t have that info. Fuji Instax? Those have been my go-tos for ages and now I can’t use them without paying extra. ✓ Finally! A film app that looks like film!This app is just what I was looking for, an app that offers great looking film emulations at the touch of the screen. Ok, it also offers just about enough tools to fine tune the image’s brightness, contrast, saturation and tone. I could not be happier. After spending decades using Adobe products, this app really hits the sweet spot of convenience and quality - and the price points are more than fair for a product this good. I combine this app with Snapseed for when I need to do some heavy lifting - but I find this app really produces some sweet images all by itself. ✓ Fantastic app.As a former professional photographer who still enjoys iPhone-photography and loves the aesthetics of film (real film, not gimmicky “filters” for social media apps), finding the RNI films app was a joy. I’ve used the presets in Adobe Lightroom on desktop for years and loved them there as well. A recent update adds the ability to save-in-place, which is fantastic (matches desktop Lightroom workflow) and avoids the issue of a ballooning library size due to “exporting” a fresh copy to your library. HOWEVER, when using this new option, photos are no longer added to the “RNI Films” photo album automatically and you must manually go find them and add them if you want to keep all your RNI-edited photos in a separate folder. This almost kills the utility of the new edit-in-place feature… DEVELOPER - please fix this and your app will be nearly perfect. Thanks!!!.Version: 4.0.48

✓ No Facebook accountI love the filters in this app and have been using them for years now, however as I changed phone and iCloud accounts, and since deleted Facebook for myriad reasons, I can’t access my favourites which were under the Slide pack. Every other pack has the option to purchase, but the one I used almost exclusively before only allows me access by sharing via Facebook. I’m sure you’d make more money offering this, as I don’t doubt everyone deletes their Facebook post immediately afterwards anyway. ✓ Better than vscoI thought this was gonna be one of those apps where you delete it after using one time. now i use this for editing all my pictures. i don’t even use vsco anymore. rni films is where it’s at. i love the variation of filters compared to other editing apps. just for black and white filters alone there’s like 5 different kinds. i love that there’s a pre warmth and post warmth i use that a lot. pre warmth makes it look natural and from within while post warmth makes it look from the outside. also another thing i love is the grain. you can have big or smaller grain and you can adjust the intensity. the sharpen is very helpful too it goes both ways you can sharpen for right and UNsharpen for left if you want the blurry effect. last but not least is the dust! it adds more to the picture and i haven’t seen many apps with it. there’s white and black dust and you can adjust the intensity. the only thing they should add is saving the pictures bc you can lose the edited version if you don’t save it. i wish it has its own gallery to save edited pictures. try it out!.Version: 1.9.0

✓ Awesome save for 1 thing…I love this app, but the only issue i’ve encountered over the years is how the intensity of certain edits doesn’t stay where you place it. If I want +5 contrast, or -1 brightness, it would be nice if it stayed there. But for some reason it doesn’t; for example, I just tried to set a +5 contrast, but it automatically sets it to 0. If I do +6, it stays, but not for 5. I never understood why, & this would be a 5 star app IMO if the devs could fix this (relatively small) issue..Version: 3.0.23

✓ Best App for Phone Hating PhotogsLet me preface by saying I look at phone photos as a parallel to instant film photos. Just like the film days, the phone photos(polaroids) are more unpredictable compared ti a proper camera. If you dont expect much, you wont be let down. Having said that, this app on my phone is similar to using the same film emulations in Lightroom, so I hate my phone photos a bit less. I use this app to fine tune digicam photos and it gets me aesthetic that I want. I’ve tested a few of the film stocks and some of them are gorgeous. However, I did wish the app had a few features that would really elevate the app. 1) Zoom Feature: I really wish this app had a zoom feature so I could zoom in and see small changes being made such as using grain and clarity. Would be an amazing upgrade. 2) HSL for Individual Colors: This feature would be amazing. The ability to adjust the Hue, Saturation, and Lightness of specific colors would allow me to fine tune the photos even more so. 3) Halation: Having this would be a nice feature to have Although I’ve mentioned 3 things that I wish the app had, I really like the app hence why 5/5 stars. ✓ Nearly PerfectThere are many recipes online for my Fuji X-E3 simulating old film stock but there is a limitation of 5 custom settings. This app offers nearly all of the film I used to use and love apart from the fast Kodak Ektachrome EES. Such a beautiful film when pushed (with gorgeous grain). There is a quote (below) from Ellen from Unwerth as a way of begging you to create a Kodak Ektachrome EES simulation. I’d pay good money just for that one simulation. Another gorgeous film unfortunately missing is the Agfa Dia Direct, a monochrome slide film that gave beautiful results. Anyway, the app is great and I will keep my fingers crossed for those two films. "In the beginning of my career, I was using a Kodak slide film called EES, which was very difficult to expose, you couldn't trust it that much, but it became more beautiful the more you pushed it. Currently it’s hard to import video, as the app gives no option to search by “videos” and you have to manually search the camera roll. ✓ Love these Film SimilationsBeen using this app for a couple of years and feel compelled to write a positive review. Like many other users I was annoyed when the developers tried to introduce a subscription model via means of having to upgrade to disable the new time stamp feature enforced via a general app update. Rather than shooting off the hip writing a bad review there and then, I sat back to gauge other end users reception. Was pleasantly surprised the developers reacted to negative feedback and omitted the option of the time stamp in their pro model 2 days later. Top marks to RNI for listening and putting users of their app first. On another positive note the update lets a user fully preview film simulation packs they may not of purchased previously. Up until now I had only purchased the negative film pack, now with been able to fully review all packs I will be upgrading to pro. All round this app is near perfect. I say near perfect as the one feature I feel is missing is the ability to zoom in on a photo which would be useful tool to preview the amount of grain applied before exporting.
