RNI Films: Photo & RAW Editor for Negative User Reviews

Photos turn out fantastic. But functionality needs to improveLove this so for what it can do to my photos, but it's a pain to use when you have a series of photos that you want processed the same way. Instead of a simple copy/paste of settings, the app makes you go through all of the settings changes for each and every photo. It gets incredibly tedious and takes the joy out of editing photos in the app. I also wish that the app would export full resolution/quality JPEG rather than the compressed and down sampled images that we're given. Other than those two qualms, I'm actually quite happy with the images that I've been getting from RNI. They're way better than the overdramatic stuff that comes out of VSCO. The film simulations are pretty close to the real thing too, especially the Kodak Portra and Ektar films..Version: 1.4.5.2

DisappointedI am really disappointed with the update and regret ever updating my app. The previous update was great, the new feature now adds a ‘film watermark’ that you cannot remove and has now moved some of the filters that were previously that you now cannot use unless you pay for them. Really disappointing, used to be my favourite app I would recommend, now I am unsure..Version: 4.0.44

Unfortunate there is no purchase all or subscription for all filtersShame.Version: 2.0.22

B/W PackBought the B/W Pack and was disappointed to see how limited it was. Was hoping for at least Agfa pan 25 and Tri-x 400 to be included but they were nowhere to be found. Specially as those are pretty much mainstays of photography, also no wonderful Neopan films..Version: 2.0.26

Why did you do that? This new update is absolutely ridiculous and money hungry! In all the previous versions before you were never forced to have a “date stamp” and now all the sudden I have to pay to remove this huge “date stamp”. Technically to remove it forever, it will cost $25! Or I’ll have to keep paying $.99 a month or $9.99 a year! I can’t believe they turned a fantastic app into this pseudo-subscription service cash grab. The new look makes the app look cheap and like every other editing app now. This one “was” a really special one..Version: 3.0.0

Sold my soul to Apple for this app; still couldn’t use itI rarely write reviews, but this used to be my favorite photo editing app until the new forced Apple ID login update. Even after going through the trouble for that, now I STILL can’t use the app anymore because my PRO purchase didn’t transfer over, even though I’ve already paid the $25. I want to give 1 star - but I really miss using this app so I’m giving 2 in good faith. Would love to be able to use the app again so that I could change to 5 stars..Version: 3.0.11

Crashes every time I try to save a photoGreat app but every time I want to save a photo to my camera roll the app crashes. It would be great if my process was saved because I have to restart the entire editing process again. I won’t be able to use this app until the issue is fixed..Version: 2.0.26

Use to be betterNow that they’ve recently upgraded to us paying monthly, it’s not worth it. This app was my go-to but the payments made me realise I don’t need these filters. I’m not so desperate so go and pay monthly for them. Shame.Version: 3.0.4

Rip OffI bought two packets of RNI film effects back in 2019. As I am just getting back into photos, I started using the app again since Feb 2021 and notices only the purchases I have made have disappeared. I did try to ‘Restore Purchases’ but was unable to as I needed to subscribe. I would like a refund as from my understanding, buying the two packs meant I could use it freely, subscribed or not. What’s the point of offering your customers to purchase packs when you would have to spend more on top of what you’ve just paid to use what you have brought. It’s really sad to be ripped off as I really enjoyed using the RNI app. Please let me know when my refund will be applied, I did try to go through the app but wasn’t able to as it doesn’t give the option for any support as all, which is really another unnecessary hassle for the customer..Version: 2.0.26

Forced to FacebookIn order to get the "free" slide pack you have to tell a friend on FB. You can't even buy it, I offered to. I don't think Apple should allow this tied behaviour. As for RNI, all I got was a super-cheeky response. A company that pushes somebody to FB will be shown to be on the wrong side of history. Seems a nice product but avoid if your ethics are involved in the decision. BTW, I also bought their $82 desktop presets, they didn't give a rat's. They weren't prepared to lift a finger for somebody that wasn't going to be forced to join FB..Version: 1.7.2

Super dumb and annoyingYou’re asking me to Sign In with Apple ID to edit my own private photos??? Are you insane? And then you show that annoying RNI Aero popup for a product that I’ve already purchased using the same Apple ID that you asked me to sign in with! If you’re annoying me with a forced sign in procedure then the least you could do is check my purchases and never show me any annoying popups for products I’ve already purchased. Dumb and annoying app I’m very close to deleting it because I really dislike developers and apps that annoy users. We still don’t have bulk edit, have to manually process 50 images, the whole app is so annoying!!!!.Version: 3.0.24

Why do i need to sign in?I don’t want you to have my Apple ID and password. I only want to use that on the AppStore when I buy your product. There is no need for me to give you my Apple ID and passed. What happens when you get hacked and my ID and password are compromised. I have no idea how secure your system is. Please just let me buy the app in the AppStore, and then use it. Other apps I buy on App Store don’t need me to Sign in within the actual app..Version: 4.0.60

Photos rarely ImportOnly half my photos import successfully. Very frustrating.Version: 1.9.38

Great app but there is a bug...I just downloaded this today and this is quite an amazing app. It is similar in ease of use and practicality to VSCO but with far more realistic film looks along with nice film effects (grain, dust, tinting). From what I’ve seen, this app has great potential and I would love to keep using it. However, there is a bug or something where the app keeps crashing, i’ve only been able to successfully edit four photos (from upload to export) without the app crashing. Please consider looking into this issue..Version: 1.5

Removing useful featuresA recent update removed the 3:2 crop aspect ratio, which is the one crucial crop ratio that should have been retained to maintain consistency with editing photos from mirrorless cameras..Version: 3.0.15

Please, remove this text from photos that appear when you change filterI like this app especially the scratches and dust filter, but this text that apper on photos while you’re changing the filter is killing me. I also don’t understand why, but the quality of the photo becomes worse, when you put scratches and dust on it. The “sharpen” and “grain” tools are much worse than in VSCO. I simply don’t use them. The filters itself are too harsh, they can be better, but its good you can control the strength of them..Version: 1.7.2

So disappointed by new updateI got this app a while back and liked it so much that I bought three of their film packs for 5,49$ a piece. Now they changed their service to subscription and you must subscribe if you want to use the grain and export function. How can you use an app based around film simulations without grain? Without those functions, the app is useless for me. I really wish I hadn’t paid for those packs before. Very disappointed!.Version: 3.0.0

Unacceptable change in the productI have used this for a few years now and was very happy with the results. However following the latest update I now have a watermark on top of the photos I edited using the app. I have already paid for many film profiles since years ago but can no longer use them due to the time stamp. The developers should remove the time stamps from paying customers or issue refunds..Version: 3.0.2

Could be improved!Using the app with more intent I’m changing my review! I think it’s quite fun to play with and the results are not bad at all. The only thing I strongly suggest is that there’s somehow a fix to include monochromatic film grain in the B&W photos!! Whenever I add film grain to B&W I’m left with blotchy noise-like greenish dots all over the frame..Version: 1.5

Wouldn’t buy- false advertisement- read reviews first! So I literally brought the additional filters from pack 1 after getting the app, which advertised the grainy photos I wanted for £3.99. I was happy to pay that once. However, once I paid, those filters they advertised aren’t included so I have to pay a further £3.99, which I’m guessing won’t include those filters I want either. Waste of £3.99 😠.Version: 1.8.2

Bait and switch!!!Do NOT update to the latest version. All your photos will now be watermarked unless you subscribe!!! Boooooo!!!!.Version: 3.0.2

Updated - RIP RNIHey editing folks, So today I updated to the most recent version of RNI and now will sadly have to be deleting what was, up until today, my most used app. Why such a shift? Well, RNI now watermarks your photos with the date as well as their app name. A feature which can only be turned off with a prop subscription. I’ve been a supporter of RNI with their Lightroom profiles for a few generations now, and really enjoy the app as well. And while a pro membership for mobile has never been appealing enough, having only a free membership was never a detriment. Sadly that changed with the most recent update. I’m sorry to say, but I’ll be leaving RNI. If you can roll back your update, or have yet to update, I am jealous of your continued use of a really nice app. If not, I mourn for your previously clean images. If you want to pay for a pro subscription, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. But this is, sadly, no longer a usable free app..Version: 3.0.2

I feel extorted with recent uodateBeen a user for over a year. Bought film packs. Enjoyed the app. Suddenly, the new update has forced a date stamp with the rni inscription over all photos. I can’t turn off this feature unless i subscribe to pro now. What? Not fair. Doesn’t even feel like that should be legal. Very let down. It should be that if i want a date stamp i should pay for it. But not the other way around, all of the sudden. Talk about hustling your customers. Not good..Version: 3.0.2

Might be ok but I don’t knowBecause it just crashes when scrolling through the All Photos album. Cannot choose a photo. Extremely slow to start up and load the photo chooser. Update: well I finally managed to open a photo from the camera roll. The trouble that still keeps this at 1 star is not being able to access the filters that you want as they are hidden behind a Share on Facebook button. Oh dear. What about the millions of us that don’t use Facebook? Update 2: still crashes when scrolling through the camera roll. I think this is one for the bin..Version: 1.6

Removed Crop Options!I absolutely loved this app until they removed the option to crop at a 3:2 and 2:3 ratio. Really disappointed..Version: 3.0.9

Would be 5 stars if it didn’t force close all the time!!This app has my favorite filters, it makes my photos fit my aesthetic perfectly for free! But recently the app has continuously forced closed on my every time I try to save my work. It’s so frustrating. I wish they would fix it. I searched the issue up and it seems like quite a few people have this issue. Please fix it, I love this app for editing and would like to continue using it 😭.Version: 2.0.26

Application inutileOn ne peut même pas ouvrir ces photos.Version: 1.9.0

ShameI had purchased the full app. Disappointing that they developers have chosen to move to a subscription based app. For the better features, I’m now going to use VSCO instead..Version: 3.0.6

Another app ruined by subscriptions. Was perfectly fine yesterday. Wake up to a subscription model locking half the filters I already had. Deleted..Version: 3.0.0

Really like the app but some things are missingI purchased a few of the packs and I do like the app but there are some fundamental tools missing: 1. Please allow the user the crop and straighten the image once they have started processing the shot. It is frustrating to have to save the photo only to open it up in another app just to crop it. 2. Give us the option to zoom while editing. Adding grain or sharpening is a shot in the dark if we can’t actually see the effect of what we are doing until we export the image. 3. Let us save some template or the processed image in app so that we can return to it later to make adjustments rather than try and remember how we processed it last time. 4. It should be possible to add specific films to your “favourites” and then only scroll through those when picking a film. It really gets in the way when you have to scroll through dozens of films to find the one you always use and try and compare it with another film buried elsewhere in the app. This is a great app that is let down by some significant oversights. I see that others have left reviews asking for some of these changes as well; please listen to your user base..Version: 1.6.3

I live this app but..I went to set it up for my daughter in her phone and it only gives me the option to Sign In with Apple ID. She is under my Apple family and it gives me the message that she cannot use her Apple ID to create a new account. And the app doesn’t give me any other options to sign in and use it. Extremely frustrating. She just cannot use it at all. Please change this. Once fixed I will change to 5 stars. The only other thing about the app is it would be nice to be able to save photo edit as projects so I can return to them and see what I did or make changes. RNI you have the other app for the whole one time thing. Which is cool but this one specifically should have projects to save and come back to..Version: 3.0.16

They listened to their user base, but there was a breach of trustLeaving my old review below for any newcomers…but they finally allow us to export the photos without needing a subscription. I will say that there was a HUGE breach of trust from them with that stunt. I will hold out on giving any additional stars until the company can show that they are to be trusted not to pull this nonsense again. Old review: Used to love this app. This update is a slap in the face - adding some obnoxious date stamp AND not letting me export for filter packs I already paid for? Cancel this company and developer already for this nonsense. Super disappointed across the board. Please refund me for all filters purchased..Version: 3.0.4

V3 For the worseI’ve been using RNI since it’s first version and was pretty happy about, purchased certain film packs which I’ve used. Last update made me write this review, since things got worse. First of all, the app is good, it has great variety of quality films and basic controls for touching up your photos. Previously it was possible to purchase film packs and use the app without logging in with Apple ID. Currently the app requires you to log in even if you don’t plan to purchase anything. Instead of film packs now there is a PRO subscription. It is possible to purchase unlimited pro version, but seems like there is no discount for people who already purchased film packs. Instead I was offered one free month of subscription which usually costs 0.99. New features like saving your preset were added, but only 2 without pro subscription. It is such a basic functionality and making it a payed feature is just cheap. The “date” feature stamps as well app’s name next to the date, at least in free version. In conclusion considering the subscription, the app should provide more features (HSL, colour grading, levels, geometry) to justify purchasing it..Version: 3.0.5

Forced to have FB account! The app and filters are in themselves great. The attitude less so. Yes offer the slidefilm emulations free to those with a Facebook account to ‘share,’ but give those who choose not to use this questionable platform an option to purchase them instead. This gross behaviour has put me off purchasing the desktop app. I’ll use VCSO and Snapseed until this is remedied..Version: 2.0.9

Money GrabbingExcellent simulations but will no longer use due to having to pay for a subscription to remove the date stamp. I’ve previously bought the packs and I’m now a legacy user but can’t use the packs as I once did due to the “Pro” feature of having to remove a date stamp…. I’ve supported RNI Films with their desktop versions previously buying 4 Pro and 5 Pro for Lightroom. I love the product but the money grabbing to further milk customers isn’t a nice practice..Version: 3.0.2

Requires you to pay twice if you already use RNI on desktopThese are great but I paid $164 to use these on the desktop and I have to pay AGAIN to use it on mobile? I understand that desktop and mobile are different platforms but I don’t think that’s fair. It seems to me if you’re paying that much money for (admittedly very good) filters you should be able to use them on mobile too. This is how you take a good product that I want to love and still manage to erode good will from your customer base. If you’re going to make a professional grade product, price it like a tool for professionals - not like loot boxes for a crappy mobile game..Version: 1.7.2

Scammed.Spoke to RNI staff and said they needed money, and decided to go with subscription model. Did not even give us options and i purchased all filters. Deleted and back to VSCO..Version: 3.0.2

App CrashesI just bought a preset pack and now the app freezes/crashes everytime when i want to import a photo from my camera roll, so i can’t use the app..Version: 2.0.5

RUINED APPI’m so devastated, i’ve used RNI films for many years now, i go onto the app as usual to edit a photo to discover the app has been ruined. they added a date stamp you can’t remove unless you pay for pro, and the best filters i loved so much i have to pay for now, you could’ve added more filters to pay for and kept the free ones free, i had bought filters in the past as the app used to be amazing now it’s ruined, turn it back to the way it was unless you want to be another money hungry boring app that will be deleted off of everyone’s phones, your app used to be amazing; one of the best, now it’s trash, worse than vsco..Version: 3.0.4

Slider not functioning accuratelyThe side function slides back to 0 when I try to bring it up/down anywhere between 1-4..Version: 3.0.6

Recent update has ruined app I’ve used for years.I’m so disappointed. I’ve used this app for years and it has been my favourite- as though there was a great option for pro members to get extra filters, it was fantastic as a free option. Suddenly the new update has not only added watermarks you have to pay to remove, but it’s actually removed filters I would use the most and now wants me to pay for them! Way to reward your user base..Version: 3.0.4

DisappointingI brought the one time purchase but when I try to restore my purchase it doesn’t restore my pro subscription feature. Very disappointing. No customer service support. #EDIT:.Version: 4.0.66

Listened to its users. Fixed time stamp.Updated. After a numerous amount of complaints by reviews when RNI updated overlooking already paying user base they took the complaints and changed it giving us the option. Thank you for fixing it. Would still prefer a one time Affordable purchase instead of PRO subscriptions. I was very pleased to purchase individual filter packs from RNI. With the latest update even if I restore my previous purchases, now they all have time stamps with RNI on them. Can’t turn them off unless you pay for the PRO features. They changed the product after I had already paid. Sadly, I would recommend looking elsewhere for filter options. Give it a pass as they’ve cheated current paying users. Until they update it to remove the time stamp for previous paying customers, Im going elsewhere and would appreciate a refund..Version: 3.0.4

Paid content locked behind subscriptionAnother case of paying for an app and only for the stuff I’ve paid for to be eventually locked behind subscription. Bye..Version: 4.0.20

Facebook though...I love this app, use it all the time. However the fact that I have to be on Facebook to get the other slide pack is super lame. It’s the one I want most, but am not now, nor will I ever be on Facebook. There should be an optional “free” choice. Not all of us are social media fiends. Is gladly pay the $3.99 to get it, it absolutely refuse to be a part of the Facebook thing. So if by chance one of the developers sees this, can you please let me know if there’s a work around for those of us who don’t partake in the soul stealing, narcissistic, drama fest, that is Facebook. I’ll gladly give you 5 stars at that point..Version: 1.8.2
