Jade Empire™: Special Edition for Positive User Reviews

Classic returns power housing on mobile.Big fan of the Jade Empire and Knights of the republic games on the original Xbox. So I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this on the iTunes Store. Playing on the iPhone 7 plus, it runs flawless with no slow down and looks oks graphically decent like the original. Few issues with running around is not always smooth but a bit jerky but I know part of this happens with touch controls and being over sensitive. As of the game, it's the same as before which is great. Amazing story, last 30 plus hours easily, great characters and the choice to choose good or bad. Which will equally change the story path. This is a showcase game and one that should show first when apple advertising their phones. Real 10/10 game. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ *** note to developers, please please please can you release Knights of the old republic 2 ***.Version: 1.0.1

Great portGreat game with fantastic battle mechanics , great story line and not to mention the fun mini games to mix it up. Just recently though, I haven’t been able to load my save up, the bar gets loaded all the way and the game crashes.:/.Version: 1.0.2

Can’t say enough good thingsThis game totally caught me by surprise as to how good it is. Most ports from other systems have trouble converting controls elegantly. This game makes it feel like it was designed for a touch screen originally..Version: 1.0.2

Definitely worth playing! If you liked KoToR, this is worth playing! Very few games do I play multiple times making alternate choices and getting to experience multiple different endings. This game deserves a lot more attention than marketing has given it. It’s creative, dynamic, well thought out and worth the cost. There are no in-app purchases sand it will keep you engaged..Version: 1.0.2

Ipad air 3Had to open from app store page otherwise get black screen with audio.Version: 1.0.2

ExcellentAnother great game from Bioware! Great graphics and gameplay! An excellent port of this game. I feel I need to take photos wherever I go so I screenshot a lot!😎👍❤️.Version: 1.0.2

Utterly brilliantThe controls are slightly awkward but you quickly get used to it. This is such a unique game, with so much amazing gameplay detail. I haven't finished it yet but I already can't wait to replay it with a different character..Version: 1.0.2

10/10Exactly like the game we loved to play on Xbox. I was skeptical at first but this is truly the same as the Xbox version. Navigating is extremely simple..Version: 1.0.2

Can’t switch targets. Lol Also note to Apple 11 users.Apple air 2 Attack once jump past target jump a second time out of range. Go left or right. Can see new target attack repeat. Yes you can’t target switch. Normally. But for normal no prob. There is a way to do it. It’s just hard to pull off constantly. Only really effects you for when doing second play through in hard mode. Makes it close to impossible. Without the switching feature. To get very far in new game + mode.so to speak. So replay ability level not really there. Which was a major bummer for me. As well. But light or dark play through works fine. Do wish was fixed. Myself. So could do hard mode. But not expecting a miracle. And for those with the Apple pro 11” whatever. Who are complaining. Game won’t work. This is not your fault. You are likely 30 y.o. Or younger. This game is run on emulator. Emulator created for games before 2000. Using a early windows format. So impossible to switch the monitor parameters. Person who posted thisgame to store. Needs to have Apple to block out your device from being able to purchase. Kotor and jade empire. (Same series of game engines If apple store. Won’t give you refund. Point them to this review. Tell them check I bought that game under this device. Uses a unique way or has a size the emulator for kotor can’t adjust for. With it being smaller, most likely. It not won’t work it can’t work. Anyone with half a brain can see I’m likely 90% nailed the problem. That’s it Great game Peace.Version: 1.0.2

Great with a flawThis game is down right fantastic and is still Biowares best game since Kotor the only problem is controls, but I found once I got use to them I had a great time, it isn’t a bad port in the slightest and I’m glad it’s here.Version: 1.0.2

£1 for one of the greatest games in the App Store? It’s beyond me why this is a £1, amazing job of porting the title over to iOS. Fantastic game at such a bargain price now. I loved the PC version and now love this iOS version. A tale retold. Perhaps it is a tragedy that there are so few reviews on this here. A must buy!.Version: 1.0.2

Almost perfect but...This is definitely a Bioware classic and aspyr have done an awesome job on the port. A must buy. However definite improvements need to be made to the responsiveness of gestures and a larger/changes to the invisible direction pad and also to the gesture box. (IP6 user here). Otherwise use a game pad..Version: 1.0.1

Seriously AmazingThis is the best game I’ve played in a while. The controls are weird at first but in about five minutes it was super easy. The storyline is emotionally investing and I couldn’t stop myself from playing it..Version: 1.0.2

Brilliant! This game was amazing the first time around, and it's aged very well. I use the Nimbus game controller to play this, which works great. Any RPG fan should play this... and don't rush through it, this game is full of beautifully detailed side quests to enjoy and enhance the experience..Version: 1.0.2

Not badIt’s a good game . I just wish you will allow me to play full screen . I can’t do however on my iphone . I got it switched over and last time it full screen . Now I only have half of a screen . Please fix . This game has so much potential..Version: 1.0.2

YES! and no :(Yes yes yesssssssss I have been waiting forever to play Jade Empire again. Everything is the same which is perfect. The only downside to being ported means that the controls are not as good. Especially when you're playing on an older iPhone 6s. My screen is generally big enough to play games but here the controls don't let me block, jump, attack properly. I'm getting my but kicked by some random thugs when I should be showing them my closed fist and punching through mountains instead. I want to finish this game bc it is probably my #1 game tied with Mass Effect, but the controls cause me to die so easily it's infuriating. I'll see if lowering the difficulty will help me..Version: 1.0.2

Really immersive and smooth portGreat game, the first time I've played it. Interesting story and characters. If you love Kotor, chances are you will enjoy this..Version: 1.0.2

A Great Port of a KOTORs successor.Great work, Aspyr. I love using the "expert" touch controls. Work like a charm. I only encountered one bug, that being I could not retry Kang's final mission after "disengaging" once. Other than that, smooth ride. BUT, I'm going to nitpick here, the apps name doesn't fit on my iPhone, and shows up as "JadeEmpire...". I assume the name is "JadeEmpire: SE". Could you guys shorten it to just "JadeEmpire" so the ellipses don't appear? I know, big nitpick, but I feel this would be trivial to change unless you can't call it that for legal reasons. Thanks, Aspyr Team, please continue the good work bringing these amazing games to my pocket!.Version: 1.0.2

Amazing!!!I’m writing this about ten hours into the game and I’m absolutely loving it so far. The story, whilst not the best ever, is still very engaging and you definitely won’t want to skip through the dialogue like other games. There are interesting companions that you can recruit, granted not all are interesting, which makes you feel even more immersed into the world. I started feeling more connected to several of my followers, learning their stories and caring for them. The general out of combat controls are very good for a mobile game, and just in general. The combat can go either way depending on what setting you have it on. I ABSOLUTELY recommend expert controls as it feels more fluid and less button mashy. The RPG elements are just like every other bioware game. You have your good and bad side, which effects certain skills in the game. Your character does start out having to specialise in certain combat styles but by the end of the game you can nearly master everything you’d want to. Pros: Engaging Story Nice combat/ movement Good RPG elements. Interesting characters Cons: Debatably only one decision actually has an impact on the story..Version: 1.0.2

Targeting Issue.Game is exactly how I remember it! Really brilliant! The only issue I’ve had thus far is with targeting enemies, it keeps cycling through the targets when I go to attack one, slightly frustrating at times..Version: 1.0.2

Superb experience! If you liked this game on the Xbox, you'd almost certainly get your money's worth here. If you haven't played it, and enjoy enchantingly evocative adventures with rich narrative in mythic settings, you could do far worse than experience this wonderful game. My impression is that this translation to the realm of the small (touch) screen is fantastic. My three disclaimers are; i. I loved this game on the Xbox ii. I'm a massive fan of KOTR, BG and basically this company's genre shaping output. iii. I haven't finished the game yet, which I typically do before writing a review. The rationale for this anomaly is that a game this good deserves more reviews, and they're currently lacking. The main draw backs are the price and touch screen interface, which basically are the same for all games initially designed for an analogue pad. The port has dealt with the transit pretty well though. I find it easier to navigate than KOTR on the iPhone, surprisingly, as it's a more sophisticated game than its predecessor. Auto saves can be annoying, (albeit useful), and the camera can get boxed in during tight fights, which, combined with a touch screen interface that occasionally falters momentarily, leads to unavoidable damage. It's irritating, but mainly cosmetic so far, and by no means too frustrating to take in your character's (very fluid) stride. There are so many positives I could mention. The flow is engaging and pleasingly smooth. Game dynamics are liberating compared to similar ports and allow a much more engaging experience in a superbly rendered realm. The natural visuals appear to me to be a big jump up from KOTR ( which must have also been the case on the Xbox, but I just clumsily remember them as being more or less on par). In fact, the environments in the phone version appear to me to be even more alluring than on the box, possibly benefiting from the res. on these cramped little iPhone plus screens. So stick it iPad. I confess that I prefer KOTR, but objectively this game (on all platforms) is superior in almost every respect. Lack of Jedi being the only draw back and lack of Revan in particular. But that would just be utterly incongruous ((or would it ....;). Yes the price was a massive turn off. I resisted a fair while though eventually succumbed because I wondered if this game had been revalued due to lack of interest. This idea was so sad and unworthy that I had to buy it. I will never do that again, unless ICO or A link to the past come out on the iPhone (feeling pretty secure there). Still, even at a pricey 10 quid, this totally immersive, superb quality interactive tale is good value. I wish it was cheaper, but I guess I don't begrudge the developers getting a fair reward for something so well put together, and I hope they'll give us more. I'll just have to drink less coffee for a week or two. I'll be tired. But it will be worth it..Version: 1.0.2

Great game!!!!!First off ignore the negative reviews about controls. The controls are perfect, though I would recommend changing controls from normal to expert in settings when you purchase. Much more fluid for the touch screen. Perfect game. Amazing immersive world! Amazing story with amazing twists and lore. Amazing gameplay with amazing depth and combos. Been playing non stop since purchase. If you want to get lost in a great world with amazing characters, story and gameplay. THIS IS FOR YOU!! 10/10.Version: 1.0.1

Bioware make sequel and people buy thisI played Jade Empire constantly as a kid on my original xbox. I have played this games more times through then any other game i have EVER owned. I long for the day Bioware decides to make a sequel for this amazing series they really need to. Spend the 10 dollars and buy this game it plays just like the actual xbox and it takes me back every time I play it. I still have my xbox special edition disc i love this game so much i bought it twice. I also hoped Bioware would notice sales for this beautiful app and see they need to make a sequel also. Do your self a favor buy this..Version: 1.0.2

One of the BESTIf you are looking for an amazing action RPG from the makers of Mass Effect and KOTOR then you have found it. This game is spectacular and I have loved it since it's initial release on Xbox and PC. I am extremely grateful that Aspyr has kept it up to date and hope to see more amazing titles from them in the future for iOS. KOTOR 2 with Restored Content would be a really amazing gift for us to buy up if you ever decide to Port it. Thanks again Aspyr, we appreciate all your hard work..Version: 1.0.2

Values ịchịPleasant story and atmosphere. Interesting gameplay and theme. PC Action-RPG for iPad. Well worth the price of admission..Version: 1.0.2

ImpressiveThis game is impressive and the owner this game is incredibly intelligent. First you start this game kinda confused you but after you play for little you will see how the story goes and I can’t even believe in the end of this game your only family betray you!! I.Version: 1.0.2

Great amazing but I can't get soundGreat game but on my iPad Air the game no sound.Version: 1.0.1

Very nice but would have loved thisThe game is very nice and fun to play I wished there was a way to play after the game was over because I would like to finish all the other side missions.Version: 1.0.2

More releases Please! These RPG games, by BioWare (/ Aspyr Media) are by far the best RPG’s released for mobile in my opinion. Please release more of these great RPG’s for mobile; such as the sequel for Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic (Sith Lords). Thanks for all your great work with reformatting these games for the touch-screen... please continue!.Version: 1.0.2

Better than it should beFirst off it’s actually formatted to a phone. Instead of just dropping a d-pad on the bottom left like fez it’s more like an invisible joystick. Second it runs really well which blows my mind cause I remember playing this on the Xbox and thinking it was the future of gaming so if you want to enjoy a bio-ware gem on the go I can’t imagine a better game..Version: 1.0.2

I removed 30fps cap!I backed up my iphone 8+ to my computer using itunes. Then i used iexplorer to navigate to the apps-jadeempire folder. Found the config file. Right clicked and clicked something like “bring me to source file” which highlighted a strange file with tons of letters. Luckily i could open this file in windows10 notepad. You could see all the advanced graphic settings. I edited “clampfps 1” to “clamp fps 0” and saved. Then i plugged phone into pc again and restored latest backup on my iphone. It worked! It takes some work but The fps is now buttery smooth and no longer capped at 30fps!.Version: 1.0.2

Amazing portI can't believe this game, which I used to play as a kid, now fits in my pocket. What an absolute marvel - it's amazing fun (I'm already on another play through). Beautiful settings, inspired story, and great voice acting. I can't believe it's available on iOS - it's an amazing port considering its former life of XBox/PC. The only thing I really disliked is the targeting system in the game, which is bizarre and counter intuitive at times. A 'cycle to next target' button is seriously lacking, as the action is fast paced and there is no pause button. It really affects the playability. Other than that hiccup, it's absolutely brilliant and I cannot recommend more highly. Hopefully this renews interest into this painfully under-explored series..Version: 1.0.2

Undoubtedly the best game on iOSWas a really great and seriously underrated game the first time it came out, and works surprisingly well on mobile. A few occasional annoying camera issues - but that was also a feature of the PC version. At the price it’s almost mandatory to get this. Would easily be worth the £10 - £15 Square Enix try to charge for their games. They really need to make a sequel to this!.Version: 1.0.2

Love itThis game brings me back to my childhood playing it on the original Xbox. It has everything I remember from when I was 10. Thank you so much for the nostalgia.Version: 1.0.2

Jade awesomeness:special editionHello the Jade empire: special edition, okay I owned this game for the Xbox way back when. Anyone who doubts this is the game STOP. This is it! I like the touch screen controls, at first I was concerned but ounce I began playing the controls are very much like the OG controls from the xbox. The graphics are somehow look better on the iPhone and the sound, combat, it’s all great. With that said, walking around I found was a little bit of a challenge. You walk straight just fine, but walking and turning can be a bit sticky. But that’s the only problem so far I found. All dialogue box’s are nice and big you can easily scroll through and choose the answer you want. The game isn’t super hard, but it isn’t easy ether. And the fact I haven’t seen one ad is super cool too. For $10 I mean may sound like a lot but but in the day they charged $50+ so you’re getting the whole game for $10. That’s a great deal. The Jade empire is a true masterpiece..Version: 1.0.2

Amazing at final boss nowWent with the closed fist way first and I have to say way to fun and deep stories and options to choose.Version: 1.0.2

Fun classic. Story so good I couldn’t put it downAmazing storyline. Kinda clunky movement (because it’s such an old game), forgot how good the story is. Was worth every second.Version: 1.0.2

Takes some getting used toAt first I couldn't possibly fathom the controls but it turns it was because I was using the "normal" control scheme instead of "expert". Essentially "normal" is ripped straight from Xbox and "expert" is optimized for iPhone. Great game just as it always was but just make sure you use the expert control scheme..Version: 1.0.2

This game is brilliantThis game is by far, one of the best games out there, I completed the game in about 30 hours plus I still had loads of quests to do, so that's basically another 10+ hours, if you liked KOTOR then you'll love this, it's basically Kung fu real time KOTOR that's in the past, with magic. But with out a doubt this game is better then most, I would say it goes par with KOTOR, also to the developers, keep on pushing out games like this because these, even thoe a decade late, are the best games on iOS and I'm sure it'll stay like that for a long time. To clarify, 1- buy this game, it's worth it,2- thanks to the people who put this on iOS, 3- one of the best games on the AppStore by far..Version: 1.0.2

Amazing port, updates would make it perfectI’ve been playing Jade Empire for years now & telling friends to get it too & the only downside it it never gets updates.Version: 1.0.2

I love it!A lot of fun! I loved it on the original Xbox!.Version: 1.0.2

Excellent gameIf you enjoy KOTOR you will love this game. Only improvement is that it needs fullscreen support for the latest iDevices..Version: 1.0.2

Knowledge is powerHey would it be possible for you to make an update that allows us more options for base martial styles (Willow, seven thunders, etc). Also please add a female strong character Thx.Version: 1.0.2

Top quality ios gameReally picks up after a couple hours and a bit if practice, it's not all swamps and goats..Version: 1.0.1

YeaahhssLoved this game.Version: 1.0.1

Perfect port of a classic.I write this only 3 hours into it but it’s fantastic so far. If your a fan of KOTOR and Mass Effect then this will be familiar territory, it fell between them which shows in the combat, It’s hands on real time combat rather than the turn based fighting of KOTOR. My best advice is switch to EXPERT controls and get used to them, a question mark button lets you view the controls at anytime and with practice it lets you flow the action better than the on screen buttons. It’s quite an achievement to condense a complex control system to simple swipes, presses and holds and make it work so well. I play it on an iPad mini 2 and it’s ran it flawlessly which surprises me as it’s a very pretty game on top of the RPG number crunching. An App Store must have so far......Version: 1.0.2

Great game!Amazing game, but the controls are hard to get use to at first, and can be a little awkward. But if you can get past that, it's worth the buy..Version: 1.0.1

Hidden RPG gemThis game will forever go down in time as one of the most hidden/overlooked/underrated RPG gems of all time. For those of you whining about controls - it's on your phone. Be grateful you can simply experience this amazing story on a road trip or wherever. Don't like dying because of a small screen and touch buttons? Change the difficulty of the game to "Student". Fixed..Version: 1.0.2

Where is our sequel? The iOS port is very good. It's almost as good as the Xbox version save for a few camera quirks. I love the game but I'm upset Bioware hasn't given us a 2nd Jade Empire, when they've release multiple dragon age, baldurs gate and mass effect sequels..Version: 1.0.2

Great "wuxia" RPG good MFI controller supportFirst, to correct a previous reviewer's comment: the iOS version does support the "area attack" through a MFI game controller. You just have to hit both power attack and quick attack buttons together. This was definitely confusing since it's not listed in the controller diagram in the game menu. Area attack is vital since it pushes clumps of enemies away. Besides that this is a classic Bioware RPG. The combat is definitely real-time relative to say KotOR but is basically positioning and rock-paper-scissors. It does get pretty awkward on touch which is why I bought a steelseries Bluetooth controller which has worked well so far in a day of play. The voice acting is generally very good. The plot and humor are rather cliched but nevertheless fun..Version: 1.0.2

Great mobile gamePlaying on iPhone 6 (not the big version), no controller. Gameplay and controls translate surprisingly well to the smaller screen. Quick to save and load, can swap back from other apps without it having to re-load everything. Great port of a great game..Version: 1.0.1

Enjoyed!Played to the end which I don't do often. Story presentation wasn't the greatest, disappointed with the text-on-screen ending. Not sure how it got such amazing reviews back when first released.Version: 1.0.1

Amazing!!!!!!!!This game is truly amazing! I love the plot and though the fighting is a bit difficult, over time, you will learn to tolerate them. There so many secrets and the swords are so good! Buy this game! It’s just amazing!.Version: 1.0.2

Awesome. Can use controllerI remember playing this game a lot when I was younger back in the olden days when the Xbox console was the coolest thing. I dumped so many hours into this game, and I was very sad that this game hasn’t gotten any kind of remastered because it is a gem I haven’t even played the game yet on my phone but I know it’s going to make me happy. First thing I did was grab an Xbox one controller connected to my phone and it worked so I don’t have to deal with the finicky touch screen buttons. For anybody else who’s like me wanting a little bit of nostalgia this is perfect. The folks who brought this game to Phone did a fantastic job. It is outstanding and is worth your money. Please give it to them lol.Version: 1.0.2

Great game!!!Haven't played the original but I love games like this on iOS. So immersive, graphically beautiful (condsidering it's age). It would be great if the controls could have an option to be spaced/customised as I occasionally hit the wrong button but it's a small mention with what is a great game!.Version: 1.0.1

Best game i ever playIt like mass effect except u use martial art as a weapons I love the storie and I felt like a hero who save the the city in the game this game is a master piece it deserve a lot of love glad I bought this game it worth every penny and I like the quest story and romance option where u can atleast choose to be gay which it rarely happen to this kind of game.Version: 1.0.2

Excellent game, controls a bit trickyLoved this game on the Xbox and pc so immediately picked up the IOS version, looks and plays really smoothly on my iPad Air 2, excellent story and voice acting, the only complaint I have are the controls, the combat can be tricky and the game does feel a lot more difficult compared to using a controller with the Xbox version but after many deaths in the beginning you do start to get the hang of it, well worth buying..Version: 1.0.1

Good but what's with the forced repeated cut scenes?I'm playing this on iPad pro and while I agree that the expert controls are extremely buggy - (can't heal in expert mode? Just wont work for me?) the analogue controls work good with the larger tablet screen. Only annoying thing about this game for me is the fact that I have no way to skip a cut-scene that I've already watched? Especially before difficult battles where it might take a few attempts of trying to defeat the enemies, if I die, why am I forced to sit through the whole cut scene again? Some of these are 3 minutes? I'm thinking it might be a loading distraction but even so I'd rather watch a loading screen with a bar than the same annoying dialogue and dodgy 3d model acting.. Skip button please!.Version: 1.0.2

Hidden gemLove every minutes on the game, tried both path open palm and close fist with romance of course. Never got problem on control, people got too lazy on trying..Version: 1.0.2

Too much space neededAwesome game but way to much space is needed to download. GTA San Andreas doesn’t need that much space and it offers way more stuff and is a way bigger game. Can someone tell me why this game needs 3.5 GB of space to download? Weird.Version: 1.0.2

Hidden gem classic .. needs Full screen updateAmazing game. A childhood favorite from Xbox. The control scheme doesn’t translate to touch screen as well as KOTOR, but this is a great example of where using a controller will boost the experience. Still waiting for the full screen update ><.Version: 1.0.2

Been waiting for this oneReally enjoyed playing the game, the story is great, a big world to explore, and I found the game easy to learn. Had no bugs or any problems, played it on iPad Pro..Version: 1.0.1

Absolutely BrilliantWhat a game, played it on the original Xbox almost 10 years ago and bought it almost immediately after seeing it available on the App Store. Story is absolutely brilliant and there are many ways to complete missions which is always a plus for replayability. I did an evil and a good playthrough and got about 20 hours out of it, great game and I highly recommend it. Here's to hoping they release a sequel soon!.Version: 1.0.1

Saving before a fightThe game and controls are fine they're just whining but the save feature needs some tuning a few quick save right before a fight you have to get a different safe or start the entire game over if you use just a quick save.Version: 1.0.2

Jade Empire deserves a sequelThis game is hands down my favorite game of all time. As a kid I played this gave beating it over and over with different characters and honestly can say it’s worth $10 for the game..Version: 1.0.2

An under appreciated gemAs a lover of both RPG games and Martial arts alike this game has always been a favorite of mine. It has a compelling narrative, a surprisingly well done combat system, and plenty of interesting mechanics and locations to keep you on your toes. Once I saw this available on the App Store I just knew I had to have it. I just wish this game got the KOTOR treatment and received an update for iPhone X to take advantage of that bigger display. Fingers crossed.Version: 1.0.2

One of the Best Games of All Time!!!!This was my favourite game in the world when I was little and it's my favourite IPhone game now. A truly amazing story and epic Kung foo magic! Hell yeah! My only wish is for a PC sequel to be born from this revival, now that's a game I would love to see!.Version: 1.0.1

EpicI don’t write a lot of reviews but just had to for this amazing game. It’s truly epic. I’ve been playing it for months now and I’m just now nearing the end, sad to say. The story line is super deep and multi faceted. Gameplay is very smooth. Characters that you interact with are unique and full of personality. If you are a fan of this sort of game where you start out on your little island and then head out into the big world while you gain experience and the storyline unfolds before you then this is a must have. This game is leaps and bounds beyond other games of this genre. A+.Version: 1.0.2

A fantastic classic gamePlayed this game when it first came out, Its an awesome action rpg with a deep story..Version: 1.0.1

Best First Person Action Adventure Game I've played on iOS thus far.Found the fighting controls odd at first. However this game has a great deal going for it that other games seem lacking in on this platform. Don't know what it's like on an iPhone but on my iPad Air this game is great. The plot is engaging and full of references to Asian mythology. If you like Kung fu and into Skyrim like games then this is better than all the medieval rubbish like Avalon and Ravensword..Version: 1.0.1
