Gospel Living for Negative User Reviews

Good idea but terribly slow!I love the the idea of being able to use this app for messaging within the church, but the notification system isn’t great and the loading time for anything in the app is terrible! When messenger and what’s app are almost loading messages instantaneously, it’s hard to move away from those resources and onto the living app. Also there needs to be the ability to create new chat groups within the ward..Version: 1.6.1

Some changes?I love the idea of this. I’m just a little disappointed with the goal aspect of it. Here are some things I would do to make it better, in my opinion. - sort the goals into the four categories. I would like to be able to see them sorted into the categories at a glance. - make a completion option. I want to be able to see the goals I’ve completed and have the satisfaction of pushing “completed”. - include a plan making section. Under each goal I would like to have a place to put a plan for that specific goal, and be able to set reminders for each part of the plan..Version: 1.1.4

Not able to customize circles for communicationWhile I love this app, and feel it is a blessing to have, as a Primary President it is frustrating. Witt Covid, we would love to have our teachers utilize this app to communicate with the children in their classes by creating a circle group for each class. It would be cheaper than sending mail, and easier to give and follow on dimple assignments to still help the kids participate to some extent in lessons. Also, as we begin activity days again, we have 2 groups of boys and girls. It would be nice to be able to have a circle group for each set of leaders and their assigned kids and parents since both classes will be doing different activities based on the kids in their classes goals and needs. Please make the circles portion of this app customizable so we can better communicate with parents, leaders, and the kids we serve..Version: 1.6.0

Getting Close to GreatFor a long time our ward tried to use this app but no one got notifications. So unless you opened the app you didn’t know you had a message (iOS for iPhone8). But recently we noticed this feature is working. The red number, notification center, and a sound goes. This is GREAT!! However, on the iOS for iPhone 8 the sound is so quiet the Bishopric doesn’t hear them. There is no way to change the sound. Can this be improved? Please?.Version: 1.7.0

Logout FeatureMy daughter got confused logging in and created a new account rather than using her church account. There is no logout feature so she can’t login with her correct username and password. We’ve tried deleting and reinstalling the app but it still won’t work and it automatically signs into this new account she created. Her new account is not linked to her church account so she is not about to join any circles..Version: 1.1.3

Circles: Youth + Parents + Leaders = SuccessLove the gospel living app but Circles is lacking. I love the idea of Circles, but it is missing the depth and versatility that other forums allow. Circles does not notify me of any conversations in my children’s circles. I can go in and view what’s happening if I remember to do so. Parents also aren’t allowed to comment or ask a question. That really puts a limit on communication. I’m a Primary Activity leader and continue to use GroupMe so that parents get notified of reminders for activities etc and can comment. Youth leaders post in both Circles and the GroupMe app so that parents can see what’s happening. If as parents we are aware of what’s happening in our child’s Primary Activity group or Youth group, we can help them to get the message, attend the activity, follow through with the assignment etc. Please consider making improvements to Circles capabilities so it can be a useful communication tool for children, youth, parents and leaders. ;).Version: 1.6.1

Great startJust need to be able to message the parents of youth as well as the kids..Version: 1.1.2

Needs work for iOS.No ability to share links, videos, or even copy text within a discussion when others share links. Needs a lot of work. With no ability to share anything, this seems quite functionless..Version: 1.1.7

CirclesThe circles app would be a lot better and more user-friendly if you could see what you’re actually typing for more than a few words at a time in the text box..Version: 1.5.0

A few key improvements neededI see the need for it and it serves its overall purpose. However, it definitely has room for improvement. The main issue that I have with this is that you cannot react to a message. So it order to notify someone that you have read their message, you have to respond to the whole group, adding a significant amount of unneeded notifications. That leads me to the next hiccup: messages do not mark as “ read” After you read them. I constantly have unread messages from months ago that I’ve read many a time. This creates confusion as I have no idea what is actually unread and what isn’t. If the developers can address these who issues, I think that the app will be a much more seamless experience. Thanks!.Version: 2.4.0

Great Ideas but needs some more flexibilityI was most excited about the circles part of this app. Finally a way to contact my other leaders and my young women without using texting!! However, it would be really great if we could have a little flexibility with the circles and who is in them. My oldest class circle includes my adult 1st counselor, 2nd counselor, and secretary. I’m pretty sure they don’t want to get a notification whenever I send a message to my class and someone responds. It would be nice also to have the ability to create custom circles and choose who you want in them from your ward (or even stake). Being able to send a message to just a couple of girls or only one would be helpful too. Thanks for what you’ve brought us so far. I hope we can see changes like these in the near future..Version: 1.1.4

Can’t find any tutorial or help and can’t work out how to use itSo sad but no way to work out what to do so deleted it. Not sure what is wrong, but couldn’t work out how to add things, even some things I selected appeared not to do anything. Is it me?.Version: 1.1.4

ReviewI can’t see my circles on IPAD or settings.Version: 1.1.6

Needs definite improvementI’m hoping we can get this app more efficient! This is a great app for us at these challenging times but we need it set up more like Facebook so that we can have different threads and not have to scroll down every time the whole way from top to bottom! Also it doubles up on copy pasting and you can’t scroll down what you are posting before you add your post!! I’m hoping it can be changed quickly as our shut downs are not letting up and we need a more effective app!.Version: 1.6.0

Exciting but More needed for tractionThe content feature is unsurprisingly the best feature. The circles would benefit from some notification settings. This app is trying to provide a common church supported platform for communication among members. It won’t get adoption if you can’t tell there’s new messages waiting inside (app badge notifications or banner notifications for example). Meanwhile text messages, fB messenger, messages, email already do this. Also currently adults don’t have circles outside their home unless they have ward Council Callings. Elders Quorum and Relief Society members need ability to communicate with their organizations if only to bring them on the same page as the youth leader biased circles feature. Need to bring both adults and youth on-board to make this an app that replaces other methods of communication. Lastly calendar sync with ward/Stake/church calendar from ChurchofJesusChrist.org is needed. If nothing but to reward all the time put into adding events into the calendar making it a one stop shop for youth parents adults and leaders. Why would someone manually add calendar events to “Today” when they have already been added to ChurchofJesusChrist.org, member tools, or for the rare member who has subscribed to church calendar events using the sync URL from ChurchofJesusChrist.org? Why would They add events if they won’t share with anyone else? The notifications, calendar and EQ RS features will give this app the traction needed for mass adoption. I currently have messages in 4 of my circles and have zero responses after 12 days from adults or youth who I know have already downloaded the app—because they don’t even know it’s there and don’t have a habit or solid reason to check the app yet. I admire the ambition of this app and can’t wait for it to get there. Can’t wait to have ability/prompts to communicate with ward members, church calendar syncing, and ability for adults to replace other app messaging for church communication. Bonus feature? Ability to create circles with extended out-of-ward/stake family members. Would have to be done by manual membership record number invites and ability to accept or reject those vs global lookup and the problems that would present..Version: 1.1.3

Has Potential but Remains buggyThis app has a lot of nice features but despite numerous updates to fix bugs, I continue to have a problem with false notifications for messages which I have already read within Circle conversations. The app has shown 2 notifications for the same message circles for the past few months and they just won’t go away despite there being no new messages. It’s pretty annoying and makes me not want to use the app. Also, sometimes the Circle conversations won’t load all the messages or it won’t load a particular conversation circle at all until I close and reopen the app several times. I hope they can work out this ongoing issue..Version: 2.6.1

Discover feature is awesome; Circles need workThe curated Discover section is truly great! There are tons of great quotes and videos and thought-provoking content there. I hope everyone using this app takes advantage of it. The Circles feature is a mess, though. Replies to a post are sent to everyone by default. This should change. The default should be reply to the original poster only. Make replies to all take an extra step or two. I don't want to get notified of all the messages saying "Me too" or "Thanks" automatically. Also, a feature marking all posts as "read" needs to be implemented ASAP. I've had to turn off badge notifications because they don't go away, even after I've scrolled through all the posts in a circle..Version: 2.0.1

“Circles” for minors needs better parental controlsI don’t like the “Circles” feature for the youth groups. As a parent, I can see the youth group posts but only if I go looking for them. I have turned on notifications but still don’t receive notifications for those groups (presumably because I am not actually part of that group). The boys and the leaders can comment in that group, but parents cannot. I find this disturbing for many reasons: 1) Our young men groups have no guidelines for posting, so the other boys are posting about topics and activities that I would rather my boys weren’t involved in (specifically, gaming). The boys are using it more as a chat group rather than as a tool to coordinate church activities. 2) Because I don’t receive notifications of posts, I am in the dark about what is going on in the group unless I remember to check, so it’s difficult for me to do damage control. 3) Not giving parents permission to post in the youth circles sends the message that parents don’t have a voice. There is a huge disconnect in the church when it comes to youth programs. The youth leaders are supposed to be supporting the parents, not replacing them. “Circles” is compounding that problem. It is undermining my authority as a parent, allowing youth leaders to go around the parents rather than through the parents to get to the youth..Version: 1.2.0

Not fully developedAs a leader there are some features which are frustrating. Currently there’s not a way to create a circle/chat which could include nonmembers. We were hoping this app would be able to replace the mass group texts we send but it looks like that won’t be the case so far. It also includes the bishopric in all of the circles related to callings which could get overwhelming for them with the notifications they’ll be receiving. Great potential in this app but still a long way to go before it’s efficient and fully inclusive of all who participate in the children and youth programs..Version: 1.1.4

Sign in failed due to unknown reasonSigning into my sons account gives this message: Ooops sign in failed due to unknown reason. Please try again. I’ve tried again for several days. I’ve deleted the app and reloaded it. I’ve called tech support and there is nothing wrong with this account. I can log into the church website and family search. But not the app. Hoping to log in soon especially since the quorum is using this as it’s only form of communication. It’s been a time consuming frustration to figure this out. He doesn’t have a phone. So when I log out of my account and try to log into his (which fails every time) and then try to log into mine again I get the same message. Please allow us to choose different profiles within the app so we don’t have to log in/out constantly. Especially since logging in is problematic.Version: 1.1.5

Notifications unreliableThe notification function is poorly implemented and needs improvement. If I open the app I am able to see new messages In the group, but not if the app is closed. Banner alerts don’t occur even if the app is given all the permissions. This makes it a difficult alternative to other platforms. If you need a group to test with please let me know as we’ve agreed as a ward council to move to this app..Version: 2.0.1

SO buggy!!This is a great app and I like the circles feature to communicate with the ward. I am not even a youth and I sometimes browse the “discover” feed from time to time. If only it would function the way it is supposed to! There are so many bugs that it makes the app really hard to use sometimes. I miss messages all the time because it either won’t notify me when something has been sent or I will still have the red notification dot by a conversation as if I haven’t opened it yet. It gets confusing and I don’t know whether or not I am caught up with the conversation. What makes this more frustrating is I have submitted my feedback with my concerns about this and all they did was respond to my email and say I need to click “mark as read.” I don’t need a band aid solution for the notification thing that I will have to keep doing over and over, I need the bug to be fixed so that it’s not a problem anymore! Stop using my tithing to pay your engineers not to fix their app!!.Version: 2.6.1

Great start, but needs improvementThis app has great potential, but it’s not reliable yet. It stopped working on my daughter’s iPhone 6. We’re trying to use this in our ward to communicate with the youth, but the younger youth don’t have their own phones, and the app doesn’t give notifications to the parents when things come up in their children’s circles. Parents are too busy to go into their children’s circles and check. The notifications need to be more obvious. It would also be nice if there was one feed that showed everything for the family, so parents don’t have to check all the feeds..Version: 1.7.0

Great idea but not user friendlyI was excited about this way to communicate with my young women and also relief society, however it is not easy to figure out how to read a message. I see that there is a message, but finding it is difficult. Them N once I find it and read it, the app will say that I still have a messed. This makes people reluctant to use the app. Plus not everyone realizes that they have to allow notifications or they won’t see any messages being sent. Hopefully it will improve because it is a great way to communicate considering that I don’t have a smart phone so texting is not going to work for me..Version: 2.5.1

Half of the screenI can not see half the screen on the iPad. Please fix. I want to be able to use this...Version: 1.1.5

Frustrating Beta app1. Gospel living calendar doesn't sync with LDS tools calendar 2. No way to create reoccurring events in calendars 3. No push notifications for circles messages 4. Circles is basically a giant group text. Has its uses, but doesn't remove Facebook's style of posting a post and having replies associated and kept with the post. 5. The discover tab is an Instagram style page that should really be in the gospel library app. 6. No web interface, thus preventing those who don't have smart phones from participating in the any way. 7. No way to sync the Today tab with Google calendar or Outlook. Some people have other calendars outside church. 8. You have to create a profile for your kid if you want to see anything for their circles. My son is 6, he doesn't need a circles app account, but i need to know what events are coming up for him. 9. If you share events to circles, they send a "text message" to it for you. If you change the event band, the circles messages doesn't change. 10. I'd love to report feedback directly to the developers, but the feedback button is broken. Like i said, feels Beta..Version: 1.6.0

Same problem on iPadOnly can see 1/2 the screen. Could be really useful if it worked.Version: 1.1.5

I really like Circles, but am now having issuesThings were going great. I love the potential of Circles as a ward communication app, especially if I could convince my kids’ youth leaders to start posting their activities on there rather than having to search through various text threads for the details of each of their activities every week. As a Primary President, I’ve been regularly using it to post activities, and have been pushing more in our Ward Council to use it. But now I suddenly seem to be having all sorts of glitch issues. I’ve lost access to a Circle that I should have access to as an administrator, some people have been dropped from their circles and I can’t seem to add them back. I also am not getting push notifications about things in my kids’ circles, though I’m not sure if that’s how that’s supposed to work, since this is the first time one of my kid’s leaders has even posted something in Conversations. It’s happening on both my phone and iPad, and deleting reinstalling the app didn’t help :( Wondering if something in the newest update caused this. QUICK UPDATE (15 minutes after sending first review 😆): I was able to get back into the Circle I was booted from by logging out and signing back in. Still can’t seem to add people back in to a circle that they should be in, including my daughter 🤔.Version: 2.2.0

Can’t see it allI really like the idea of this app. Unfortunately, I can only see the left half of the screen on discovery and can’t figure out how to change it so I can read the articles..Version: 1.1.4
