Tripsy: Travel Planner for Negative User Reviews

Basic stuffGod I want this to be good. I have bought premium and it hasn’t recognised a hotel booking, a car rental and it has messed up my flight information- international datelines seem to be a bit tricky for it? Beautiful app, want it to work so bad!.Version: 2.16.12

Good UI, but misses on core functionThe UI is nice and easy to use. However while trying to use the app extensively for a Japan trip, it really is poor at understanding time zones. The only way to correct is to set specific times for each and every item I saved. Huge pain. And with time zones incorrect, my whole trip plan isn’t of much use. The app should know that if I enter a hotel stay in Japan, the timer zone should be Japan..Version: 2.1.1

Decent app with some issuesI really enjoy this app, it’s well do e and designed. I however paid for premium and not all the premium features are working, specifically flight alerts. I’ve emailed the developer several times: first time there was a known issue, second time it seems issue was fixed but I was still experiencing it and the third time I have not received a response. Do flight alerts work for anyone else? I can’t renew premium until this is fixed. Thanks!.Version: 2.15.5

The import from email service doesn’t work very wellI tried to import a flight that had a stopover in another city, and it created a new trip for the city with the stopover and didn’t import it into the trip for the city I was actually travelling to. 🤷‍♂️ *update* It just keeps getting better with this app. Had big problems using Sign In with Apple. When I tried to use the email anonymization it failed to receive emails from my account. Kinda makes sense, and this could be an Apple problem, but when I tried to deanonymize my email it told me that my original email address was already in use? Can’t figure that one out. So I manually copied the anon email address as and alternate, which worked fine. It’s just a little annoying to have to make all that happen manually. So great! Now I can send in my flight data. Which I did, and Tripsy reported that it had been imported successfully!! I didn’t bother to go through and check manually because having my flight data in Tripsy is just one more place, it’s already in my calendars/airline app etc. The day after I get back from my trip, Tripsy starts giving me alerts about my flight. Turns out that the arrival time of my last connection was the morning of the next day, and apparently Tripsy took that to mean that my flight was on the day after. Obviously I would never rely on an app that I’m trying out for the first time to remind me about something as important as a flight. However, Tripsy’s price point indicates that it’s a premium travel app/service. Part of that service is importing your flight data. If I was travelling all the time and was paying Tripsy to take care of some of these details, and it got my flight date wrong, I would be pretty upset. Feels like table stakes to get this kind of thing right, and for it to be rock solid, not feel like someone’s parsing project from first year comp sci, or a deeply inconsistent beta. Glad they have an option for a single months subscription, because if I had to try to recover the cost of a year of this app from Apple I think I’d be tearing my hair out. Luckily I can just cancel and call that $7CAD a failed experiment. Cutting my losses with this app. The app looks nice, and if all you need to do is manually enter the names of the places you want to visit on your trip, maybe it would have some value, hence the 2 stars. I’m not sure that it’s worth paying the subscription fee for this app if the real purported functionality is all so flakey. Maybe they’re still working to try and fix some of these things, but the write up on the App Store makes it seem like it’s already working..Version: 2.2.6

DisappointingI was going to pay for this app, I went back to do it and the price has gone up. It's not worth it now £20 for a year and then £40 a year after that (which it will be because I will forget to cancel it if I don't use it). I'm sure you'd get more customers if you weren't so expensive. Will use another app..Version: 2.4.3

Nice UI. Too much manual entryThe UI is really slick. Unfortunately I have to manually enter all my flight information as the search function doesn’t work. Car Tab also doesn’t make much sense when tracking a rental..Version: 2.0.3

Too expensiveWhatever the merits of this app it only costs $7.95 a year in the US so why is it $30 a year in Australia?.Version: 1.3.0

Too many bugs/problemsI want to like this app because it’s almost perfect but it keeps jumbling my itinerary out of chronological order. (defeating the purpose of the itinerary) also it won’t let me add any activities to the last day of my trip. I got 2 things added not it won’t let me add anything else. also the time zone feature is broken and just confuses everything..Version: 2.15.7

This is a joke?!Just thought I would give this a go. After 5 mins, tried to add a document which is a fairly essential part of anything like this and a pop up for a premium version came up that was asking for £160. I didn’t really have a chance to see if this app was worth paying £160 for but, but I’m pretty sure it isn’t. I would probably have paid a fiver for it, but nothing more. You can pretty much do everything you need to plan your trips using Apple Notes - the free built in app that everyone has. It’s not as ‘flashy’ maybe, but it does the job well enough. I know app developers need to make a living, but surely this would be easier if the apps were priced at a sensible level..Version: 2.10.12

A good system but some catchesExcellent way of recording your itinerary in one place and sharing it with people. Wish it had a little more intelligence with the itinerary importing and could tell the difference between Birmingham US and Birmingham UK! As such you have to do a lot of editing to make sure details are correct.Version: 2.16.12

Not convincedWithout a subscription, you can’t even access your own itinerary from another device - no free trial either so can’t really try features out..Version: 2.15.5

Almost perfectSuch a great app - but I wish it had 2 small things: 1. The ability to hide flight paths on the map view. I dont want the map to always default to a zoomed out view that doesn’t show many much relevant detail of the stuff I have planned in my actual destination 2. The ability to add a location to the itinerary on a certain day, without having to assign it a specific time. I.e. “I want to go here on the second day of my trip, but I don’t care specifically when”.Version: 2.16.12

Manual Addition Ruins ExperienceThe developers created an excellent UI. It looks great and is fairly intuitive. However, the manual activity addition system is quite labor-intensive even for short trips. I was planning my business trip to Sunnyvale, and to enter just a few items took a really long time. This app features no auto-complete for anything, so all names and addresses must be entered by hand. As such, it’s really no better than just compiling Google Maps links in a Google Doc..Version: 1.4.0

Idea great but not easy to useI love the idea of this. After downloading I went to enter a trip. It would not let me enter time of flight and kept going back to the time it was currently even though the date was correct for the flight. It also didn’t make things easy to enter a connecting flight. I didn’t go any further in the app..Version: 1.1.0

Unusable, didn't pass basic QAThe Mac port of the app is not even usable. Searching a hotel constantly takes you to a list that isn't showing the thing you look for, and move the keyboard focus away from the text field. It's horrible. Importing a trip doesn't add the itinerary to your existing trip (and it's easy low-hanging fruit! Just match by date) and would create separate trips instead. How am I going to work with four trips for my 3 hotel stays and flights? There are now four trips for god's sake. The app does not help you plan. You can't easily list out all the things you want to visit and easily move them around. Moving activities around is a nighmare. You can drag but whatever you drag can't seem to be dropped anywhere. It's a mess with time. Things you don't want to use specific time for—walk in the park, biking on a trail, or visiting a museum—I wish I can just enter Morning, Afternoon or Night and call it. Things you want **very** specific time for—flight, train, concert—it's a hassle to just get it right 100%; so many buttons to push to get to the time scroller. It does help you organize and put everything in one place. That is like the only merit of the app, but it's easily substutable with my notetaking app, and Apple's iOS maps Guides. Overall this is a generic notetaking app with a nice skin. Damn MacStories to even recommend an unfinished product. Unsubscribed..Version: 2.7.0

Nice looking, but...Directions don’t work (it literally just shows you a picture of a map instead of starting turn by turn directions). You can’t use google maps for directions. You can’t get notifications for different items on your agenda. Images for itinerary wallpaper take ages to load. It just doesn’t fit my needs. Seems like more attention was paid to interface design than robust functionality. When you’re traveling in a big city what do you want out of a travel app? I for one don’t want to be opening the app every hour. It would be nice if the app notified me about upcoming itinerary items and just surfaced them on my lock screen at a set time, or when I was near the location..Version: 2.0.3

Needs work…Good setup, but not worth money to pay and input your trip. Would be better with photos and info for cost on trips. I tested to try and see if I could put another trip in and you only get one. I don’t waste time on apps that do this. Not wasting my money for a limited app..Version: 2.10.2

Okay, but now what? This app has a beautiful interface and importing your lodging and flights are easy with the premium account. But having to add your entire itinerary manually is an absolute deal breaker for me. Other itinerary apps like Sygic Travel and Wanderlog use interactive map interfaces that allow you to click on a location and add it to your itinerary with ease. And with other itinerary apps you get important information on restaurants, museums, markets, etc. such as business hours, a description blurb, how long people usually spend there. They also give you optimized routes and travel times. I signed up for the premium special of $2.99/month for the first three months, just to try it out. But if this app doesn’t change to be more traveler friendly, I’m likely going to cancel before the price jumps to the regular $4.99..Version: 2.5.8

Falls too shortI have used both TripIt and TripCase for years however both are starting to feel a bit old so when I saw the review for Tripsy I thought I would give it a try. I travel every single week so need a good travel management app The interface is lovely. It looks modern and colourful and is easy to work with. Forwarding booking emails to the app normally works well. So I dropped the cash for a full 12 month subscription ahead of a trip to German and another to the states. This involved flights, hotels, airport parking, car hire and other bookings. My first problem was when the desktop app stoped syncing and then refused to let me log in using my AppleID. Even now, 2 weeks later, that support request has not had a response. Syncs sometimes happen and sometimes don't. When I arrived at the airport (LHR), NOTHING! No updates on flight times, gates etc. I was running TripCase as well as a back up and that kept me up to date with gate numbers, flight delays and so on. Even now, after the trip, those flights have never been updated. I was traveling BA so not exactly an exotic airline During the trip, some booking emails were just ignored. No matter how many times sent, not a thing. Yet the following day, the same location, same booking system (OpenTable) the reservation emails were prompty imported no problem. So this app right now has too many issues (and lack of support) for me to use it as my main travel app. When I am standing in an airport at the end of a 10 hour flight, needing to know my hotel or car hire info or even next flight details, I need to be totally condfident on having up to date information I really wanted to like it and as I have paid for the year, I may come back in the future and try again but for now, this is just another app trying to displace TripIt and falling short.Version: 2.17.11

Total wasteTried to import reservations from emails and it didn't work. So I purchased the pro plan, thinking that I needed that do import. That didn't work. I have been using two free apps which have flawlessly imported the exact same email reservation into trips. And this (now paid) app cannot do it. Not sure what is going on, but I'll trash this app and go for one of the free ones..Version: 2.10.3

Well designed, but poor timezone handling and occasional crashesThe UI is very pretty, but doesn’t seem to work particularly well for fairly straightforward itineraries. Long haul flights across timezones get sorted incorrectly compared to other events on the same date; the app sometimes crashes when tapping import notifications; I’ve experienced several UI freezes (had to kill and reopen) while trying to edit events, etc. I’d be happy if everything worked as advertised, but that doesn’t seem to be the case :(.Version: 2.2.2

Good idea but some issuesIt’s a good app to plan a trip and itinerary with someone else however there are a lot of searches that don’t show up so you can’t add as a location. Not sure if that’s just searches in Japan but found it frustrating that locations didn’t show up when searching for them, even common places. Would be nice to have pins that you could drop wherever you want to and add a note.Version: 2.5.8

Priced too highThe UI is amazing but the fact that the user has to manually add every single detail is not worth paying for. Also only being able to have one trip without subscription is not worth using this app. You need an API at the back end that feeds from emails to auto-update/create itinerary for each trip. TripIt does this even in the free version and doesn’t limit the number of itinerary on the free version..Version: 2.0.1

Emails not being recognisedI've forwarded 4 different trip items to the suggested email and none of them have been recognised. Might have to switch back to Tripit.Version: 2.11.0

This is quality software but the price???This is a great app. Great UI and very polished. Top quality. The price though is a little too high - nearly $66 AUD per year. I have apps I use daily that didn’t cost anywhere near that. I don’t mind paying money for quality software but it must be reasonable..Version: 2.0.3

Huge, quick paywallIt looks like a nice app, but even the most basic of features requires a payment of £40!!.Version: 2.2.5

Beautiful app, lackluster functionalityI wanted to love this app. It’s nicely organized and beautifully designed. The layout is easy to read and generally easy to share. It does not, however, handle multiple passenger flights/info well. It keeps overriding one passenger info for another - same flight. I have used other apps before with the similar forward the email feature, and they capture info for the 2 passengers, Tripsy does not. For the Pro subscription fee, I’d expect this to work..Version: 2.11.0

So much potential!I love the concept of having a digital planner that includes all the details of the trip. You’re able to add documents, edit the details of each event, import reservations, and everything you’d want! But the execution is terrible. The app has crashed on me a couple of times. Sometimes the keyboard will disappear in the middle of typing something out. The app gets slow and laggy at some points. And the import reservations feature doesn’t work more than half the time so I end up manually entering the details. Also, the user interface could be a lot more organized. I don’t like how I’m the itinerary, it only shows the start time of each event. I want to see a little more detail of each event when I click the itinerary. Love love the concept, the ability to add details, and the ability to personalize my itinerary - but the execution is poor!.Version: 2.10.5

So Frustrating!!I have been using Tripsy Pro paid subscription for over a year now. I love that all my information can be stored in one place. But getting it there us another story. The app simply doesn’t work properly. When entering data the app hangs up constantly. Upon finally getting all the info in for an entry and clicking “save”, it can take up to 4 minutes for it to save. Most entries take me on average of 10 minutes per entry to get it into the app. When I try to scroll through the entries it looks up and won’t move through the entries. When I tap the itinerary box or a entry box or even the gray “x” box in the top right corner, the app just sits there and doesn’t move for a while. It takes me 4 or 5 times as long to get the entry in as it does for me to do the typing. I have contacted Rafael many times about these issues but nothing gets better. Matter of fact, I have been pitting in a new trip the last couple of days and the app is WORSE than it has been in the past year. In 2 days I have spent close to 10 hours putting in data and have only gotten 10 days worth entered. I have on average about 5-6 entries per trip day. This is VERY annoying and frustrating to have to spend this much time just because the app won’t move through the process. I continue to use Tripsy because I have so much time invested, close to 200 hours over the past year. If you use this app, be prepared for frustration and ling hours..Version: 2.7.0

Needs improvementFirst off, as others said, it requires all manual input. There is no way to connect it to your email and have it look for trip info, nor can you email reservations to a tripsy address and have it auto populate. Even if there was just a web interface that you could type into that would be better. If an activity is multi-day, like a hotel stay, the dates list only shows the start date. Subsequent days appear not to have no hotel stays. Wish I’d paid more attention before I plunked down $$..Version: 1.1.1

Seems good but I have trouble with Mac appI tried to sync between my iPhone and MacBook. However all it did was sign me up to plans on both devices. ☹️ Update: thank you for getting back to me. I think the problem is with WebKit blocking access to any “.app” websites on my Mac which I believe you use. Not your fault … I just cannot seem to solve this. That said, I set up an account on my iPhone but cannot even sync that to my iPad as it is not possible to sign in. Only the option to set up a new account is given. When I put in my email address it tells me this is already being used. However, no option to sign in is given..Version: 2.16.2

Almost ThereWhen entering a hotel the dates are not visible. Also when changing the dates on an item it reverts back to the old date. These bugs are fixed then appear again..Version: 2.15.13

Great UI, poor customer service, limited free versionI downloaded this app to replace an aging app I’ve used for years. I contacted customer service (twice) to see if they offered a feature to import my old trips. I heard no response both times, but I signed up for pro anyways to give it a try. I like it, but the lacking customer service and limited free version basically giving you hardly anything without pro is a challenge to overcome. I can pay $5 a month for something I may use a few times a year and keep having that commitment, or, I can pick something that’s pretty well done for free, and possibly pay a-la-crate for extras. Having all my old trips stuck in an app that I cannot easily export the data from, and having to start from scratch with a paywall here just to break free, gives me an uneasy feeling. If the developer were more responsive and were to consider taking my request into consideration, i might have a better feeling that the commitment is there. Without that though, it’s hard to want to commit to a monthly or yearly subscription. I get that people and companies want to make money, but that money needs to be earned, and so far I’m still waiting. I hope it happens, I like this app and would be willing to commit if it truly were and all-inclusive data store for everything I want and had in the past. Thanks for your commitment, and i’ll keep an eye on this..Version: 2.15.7

Never auto imports accurate flight infoBeautiful UI Function is lacking..Version: 2.17.8

Looks nice but not worth the costThe app looks good and seems like it could have potential but it really doesn’t do much that google calendar and the airline apps don’t. And to just bring those features somewhat together for the cost they are asking is crazy. Maybe if it had some additional features like packing lists, currency conversion, cost sharing with the group it would be worth $50 a year but for now I’ll just use my gmail and the airline app..Version: 2.13.2

UselessIt does not recognize any emails to organize your travel making it completely useless. I have forwarded from pretty well established companies, United, Priceline, Airbnb. Instead of organizing the information it just says it does not recognize the email then asks you to pay for the app. Why in the world would I upgrade when you can’t to the most basic task?.Version: 2.13.2

Very basicYou can create new entries for each activity which is not as fast as i would expect. You can’t reorder or change things easily. Also, you need to enter each drive separaretly. If you go on a road trip, why can you just highlight the entire day as a driving day and then let the app show the route and the driving times? After adding 4-5 sights, you still need to add the drives between them if you want to get a neat map. I paid for the pro, in the beginning it could not automatically find my easyJet flight when i entered the flight number. Bad.Version: 2.8.3

Basic Feature is “Premium”Don’t waste your time downloading. Just to be able to share your trip you have to pay $35 or the monthly $5. Even Tripit allows you to share and collaborate a trip for free but to have to PAY for this feature is ridiculous. If you’re going with friends or family only one person can view the trip on their phone or add to it??? Come on guys. Be better. That’s just low. Sad thing is that I actually liked the app... :/.Version: 2.3.0

Good app, poor customer service, free version has limitsI downloaded this app and it functions well on an iPad. There are some improvements that could be made but it is better than Google Maps. If you would like to login on more than one device you must pay for a pro plan. Once you are logged in one one device the user will have met the limit for devices, and even when you log out of that device, you will not be able to login on another device without paying. Logging out of the other device doesn’t change the ability to login in to the other device. For that reason, I would advise to choose carefully the first device you use to log in to Tripsy. I used my iPad because I was home and it was easiest. However, even when I logged out of the iPad, I still could not get in to my account on the iPhone without purchasing a plant. I contacted customer care, and although various emails went back and forth it took about five days for them to tell me that the problem was I didn’t have a paid plan. if you only use one device this probably wouldn’t make a difference for you. Customer care definitely needs some improvement. I will update my review if I continue to use the app..Version: 2.15.5

Not greatIt randomly changes the times I’ve entered for activities. Pretty fundamental flaw. It can’t cope when I select a place which isn’t in its limited database of places. App is only really useful for well trodden places and set activities it seems..Version: 2.15.5

See potential but a long way to goI was actually thinking about buying a lifetime sub but soon I found the sync is not working. No option to access my email to read itinerary. Worse parser than TripIt’s even though it is free. No fancy notification/push UI like flighty..Version: 2.17.16

Wasted potential, poor supportPro user here for a few years now. I absolutely love the planning aspect but the number of unresolved bugs is incredibly frustrating. Support is nonexistent, you won’t get an answer for weeks. There are issues with timezones, findings things, flight schedules, sync and many others. Each update breaks something. I am really unhappy at this point and will not renew our subscription next year..Version: 2.17.1

Great app and ui, but lifetime cost…I love the app and it’s ui it looks very nice and friendly and I also love the Mac support as well. However that lifetime access cost is 250 dollars CAD, which imo is way way way too much for one app. I just can’t justify spending that much on one app. If only the cost of it was lower I would’ve stayed with this app..Version: 2.12.1

So close to being a great appReally great for organizing trips. It’s great to be able to forward reservations and have things sucked in and parsed. But good luck trying to plan a road trip that spans multiple time zones. The default time zone should be based on the event that is being scheduled and not where the device is located or the time zone set when creating the trip. It’s as if they didn’t use the app at all to plan a road trip..Version: 2.10.6

One of the better travel apps, but a lot of issues remainI do a lot of travel to remote areas, and the flight database is incomplete. This would be fine but it’s both incredibly frustrating to manage a trip that spans multiple time zones and a lot of airports aren’t in the database, so you wind up having to not input the flight or say you’re flying into a nearby river. I’ve also never been able to get the email import to work..Version: 2.10.10
